The service is horrific. They will not seat you until the entire party is there. The bar staff stares you in the face and ignores you if you stand at the bar to get a drink. We went there two weeks ago tomorrow for the famous Mars fish fry. We knew the place would be busy, but it seemed like vehicles were parked almost a half a mile away. We noted there were many people waiting so we disappointedly left, but I heard so many good things about Mars that we had to go back so Labor Day, we decided to try it for lunch. We were greeted by a very friendly, smiling hostess, and we were elated because we were seated immediately when I saw that they had walleye and potato pancakes on the menu. I was eager to try it because those are two things that I love. My wife Mary started with a bowl of mushroom soup and I tried it. It was terrific. When we got our entrées, I was astounded at the size of the fish. It looked fantastic with a perfect breading and cooked with perfection. By comparison, we went to a restaurant which is supposedly one of the best in Lake Geneva, but the fish was nowhere near the quality served at Mars on top of the great food our server Ashley was just so friendly and always smiling with great service. When she suggested the strawberry whipped cream cake for dessert, although we were full, we shared one after we finished. I thanked Ashley for suggesting the cake and I told her it was so appropriate because it was my birthday. And so she immediately told me oh why didn’t you tell me I am going to camp that for you. I thought it was such a lovely gesture. We are definitely going to make it a point to make the drive some Friday night to do their famous fish fry as a matter of fact when I posted a picture of my lunch, I have other families members that are going to make the drive up as well thank you so much Mars for the great experience..

We were in Lake Geneva To see Kristen Crist Magic Show and googled a place to eat. Mars resort came up. It was perfect. The menu was extensive, the wait staff was excellent. The food was delicious. My baked walleye was perfect. My son had the rib eye. My grandson had the duck, which he raved about and my daughter-in-law had a salad with chicken. Everything was cooked to perfection. Since it was my daughter-in-laws birthday they brought has a piece of delicious cake with a candle on it. On the house. Perfect choice, will eat there again when in the area.

We got there by 5pm on Saturday, we were late as it was a mad house of parked cars as far as you can see. No place to park! I was told to get here around 3 on Friday or Saturday to park and get in. I went to this restaurant at 6pm on a Saturday with my husband and kids. I was told there was a 2 hour wait. Almost the entire restaurant was inebriated and overserved. One patron was falling down , another was fighting with another customer, another one had a black eye. Apparently it’s this restaurant’s policy to seat drunk 70 year olds before families with young kids. The hostess said she would seat us earlier for “the right price”. Spend your money somewhere else

Had a fantastic dining experience. The food was absolutely delicious — we started with the fried calamari, which was crispy and flavorful, and shared the charred 1/2 duck for our main course, which was perfectly cooked and more than enough for the two of us. The staff was friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming. We especially loved the option to sit outside right along the shore of Lake Como — a beautiful setting that added to the charm of the location. Highly recommend for a great meal with a view!

I get it. It's old. It's "iconic". But the inside is a disaster. The poor busboy had to apologize for the mass of dead flies on the windowsill near us. Drinks in the beach - sure thing. Very Disappointed After a Previously Great Experience — Never Coming Back

We drove all the way from Chicago to visit Mars Resort again, based on a great experience we had here before. Back then, everything was perfect — good food, great atmosphere, and friendly staff. Unfortunately, this visit was the complete opposite.

I came with my pregnant wife and our well-behaved dog. We politely informed the staff that we had a dog and asked for an outdoor table. They gave us a number and told us to wait.

We waited for over an hour, while other guests who arrived after us were seated before us. During this whole time, our dog was calm and friendly — people were playing with him, taking photos, and clearly enjoying his presence.

Eventually, a man (likely a manager, though he never introduced himself) came over and started waving his hands in a way that seemed intentionally provocative. Naturally, our dog interpreted this as a threat and barked once to protect us. The man then spoke to my pregnant wife in a very rude tone and told us to leave, claiming they “never allow dogs.”

This was shocking, considering there is a clear sign at the entrance that says: “Dogs Welcome if Well-Behaved.” Our dog absolutely was — until he was deliberately provoked.

We left feeling deeply disrespected and disappointed. Instead of hospitality, we were met with hostility, inconsistency, and a complete lack of courtesy.

❌ We will never return and strongly do not recommend this place to anyone who values respect and basic decency.

Three of us stopped in for lunch. We were seated quickly and greeted by our server. I ordered a Reuben sandwich. This is typically a goto for me in judging a place for a future visit. While it was tasty I wouldn't order it again here. The meat seemed to come from a package. It was thinly sliced and was not well distributed. I hate having to disassemble my food before eating. It is very typical for the kitchen to plop a ball of meat in the center and move on quickly to whatever else they are doing. The minestrone soup was very good, plenty of vegetables.

The others in my party had the beef sandwich and a burger. Both were very happy.

We visited sat July 19th I was up from Florida visiting and was told this is a great place! We waited a while for a table 14 of us and out back you can sit on the waterfront of Lake Como with servers as you wait for your table! Kylie was our server out back and she was absolutely gorgeous and an extremely great asset to Mars Restaurant! Great personality her service was 2nd TO NONE! She was very knowledgeable great personality and made sure we were constantly taken care of! Our drinks were never empty and like I said 14 of us! When we got our table our new server was Leah(spelling?) She was absolutely fantastic a beautiful young women again great knowledge and personality 2 for 2 Mars! Great Job! They do such a good job on band days, the crowds can be challenging. Come with some patience and you'll have a blast by the water with all your friends.

Ordered medium rare prime rib that came out so raw the knife could not cut through it. Sent it back twice only to get back what was boiled beef in aus jus with no seasoning. Yesterday, 6 of us had an amazingly wonderful dining experience at Mars!
I say experience, because it was so much more than a meal! We arrived just after 4:00 in the afternoon, and the place appeared to be very busy! I was there with a brother, a sister, their spouses, and their son. We were seated inside, because outside would have been at least a 30-minute delay! As it turned out, our decision had an unexpected benefit! We were seated promptly and introduced to Madison, our waitress! (Not sure of the spelling of her name!) She shared her engaging smile and very pleasant personality! Madison took our drink orders and returned promptly with them. Since many of us hadn’t been there before, she told us about the specials of the day and asked us if we needed some time to think about our choices! We all did! Again, she returned promptly and started taking our orders. She must have repeated the specials of the day, a half-dozen times, with all the side options, and even with her assistance, there were still several changes as the orders were recorded! NEVER ONCE, did she appear to be frustrated with our continuous questions and changes! Shortly thereafter, we received our soups and salads, followed by our entrees! They looked so appetizing! We were all anxious to dig in! As we were enjoying our dinner, Madison asked us a few times if we needed anything. I had originally ordered an iced tea, and my glass was never empty! We asked for some additional napkins and some tartar sauce! They arrived immediately! We throughly enjoyed our meal! All of us! And I must say, Madison was the cherry on top of a “supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” dining experience! We all left comfortably full with our “doggie bags” in our hands and a very warm and content feeling! While the food was out of this world (Mars, get it?), Madison certainly added to the flavor of the day! I don’t think we have had such an enjoyable Wednesday spring afternoon in a very long time!

We've been going to Mars since I was younger and have always had great service and great experiences. We went for dinner tonight and was told an hour wait. The weather was nice, so we went and sat outside and purchased drinks at the outside bar. An hour went by and we hadn't been seated, so we went to ask how much longer they thought it'd be. We were told 15-20 minutes. At two hours we still hadn't been seated, but knew it was busy, so we went to check with the host again. We were told there were still four tables ahead of us, so it'd be another hour. The hostess (didn't catch her name) told us, "Well, we aren't a computer. We only have seventeen tables." No idea what being a computer has to do with it, but it was a very odd comment to make. We really tried waiting and giving it the benefit of the doubt, but if we would have waited another hour, three hours is just insane. Two hours was long enough at that. When we initially called to make a reservation, we were told they did not make reservations. However, when we got there to put our name in, there was a larger table with a "Reserved" sign on it.

There are so many tables outside, so it'd be nice to maybe have those serviced. Even just for apps to make the wait more tolerable. We were really excited to dine there, but ended up being super disappointed with the service.

We counted at-least 20 people that came after us that were already seated (highlighted on the paper). Food:
I started with the white chicken chili. I would pass on this. It lacked flavor and texture. But after that, my meal was delicious. I asked for the bluegill but they only serve it on alternating weekends. So call ahead and ask to find out which fish they’re serving this weekend if you’d like to know.

I ordered the perch with corn fritters for $19.
It came with 7 pieces and a good size corn fritter. The perch was lightly breaded and had good flavor. The breading was so good, I ate the pieces that fell off onto the plate. The tartar sauce tasted more like mayo unfortunately. The corn fritter I had was AMAZING. With maple syrup it was like a dessert. I thought about this corn fritter on my way home. I would come back just for that. I left feeling full and satisfied.

Service:
The service was great as soon as you walked in. Diane the host was sweet and was able to accommodate me. Billy was my server, attentive and always smiling. The bussers were great! They were on top of everything and friendly as well.

Atmosphere:

Classic Wisconsin feel, beautiful wood decor and bar with historical pictures placed around the restaurant. Something cute was the 100 year history on the menu! Beautiful lake view from the windows.

Live Piano music with chairs around the piano is a fabulous touch.

It’s busy, lively, and loud. A fun place with good food!

There is also typically a long wait on Fridays (avg. 1 hour). Check other reviews for the best time to come if you don’t want to wait. If you don’t mind waiting, there is a beautiful outdoor area when the weather is nice. Find a chair and enjoy the beach!

Looking for that old school Wisco supper club experience? Great Manhattans, excellent beer s on tap and bottled. Menu from ribs to fish.
We had Reuben sandwiches and fish fry (1cod, 1perch, walleye available, grilled is an option). Food was abundant and tasted very good. We opted for sides of: french fries, sweet potato fries and potato pancakes.
The great service (Madison) paired with cheese curds and an order of fried mushrooms put our lunch over the top.
Be prepared for a short wait, have a beer and gaze out on Lake Como while seated indoor or out. The price is right!

Everyone is happy to be here and you will be too. This place has amazing ambience inside and out, and professional service no matter how busy they are. Barb was really sweet and nice on a busy night for the kitchen. Bartenders are cool dudes too. The piano bar is such a unique experience and such talent! Incredible food for a great value! Ribs are superior, texture and flavor. They don't take reservations so be sure to show up early to get your name on the list and have a few drinks out back on the beach. All around 10/10 night out every single time!!!!

One year later: have been coming here multiple times a month and am always happy with the lake view and the bill. Love all the staff! Nora has been great
