What a great dinner experience! From the time we arrived to the time we left, all the staff were very friendly and polite! For dinner we all had either the Cod or Walleye. Both were very delicious! The dinners came with fries and coleslaw. Some of the best fish dinners I have ever had! To top it off, they had Hamms beer for $1.50! The building was a log cabin with all sorts of stuffed animals! What a great vibe! Thank you!

We had dinner here last night for the first time. We are from the Madison area, but come to Montello once or twice a year. Quite honestly, Mecan River Outfitters is a hidden gem. It was recommended to us by the bartender at the White Lake golf course. We were celebrating our anniversary and wanted a nice dinner after spending the day golfing. The entire staff is incredibly friendly. We enjoyed great conversation with the bartender and the chef also peaked out of the kitchen and greeted us. After a couple of amazing old fashions, we enjoyed an even better dinner. Destiny was extremely friendly and efficient. Great meal! We will definitely dine there again when we are in the area. We were happy to learn that they also serve breakfast on the weekends and lunch. It was a great new find!

We checked out Mecan River Outfitters today & had a great experience!! We came from Madison, brought our own kayaks, and they car spotted us and provided insight on the river itself! (Super important) Once we got off the river (we took ~4.5 hours, many logs down so lots of fun navigating!). We headed back up to their lodge for a Bloody Mary. The whole place is so cute.. they have a lot there to offer like B&B.. camping, restaurant/bar— family owned & operated. Would definitely recommend! What a little gem 😍

Anticipated a winter ski/snowmobile vacation. Mother Nature disappointed us with lack of snow; however, Mecan River did not disappoint! Cabin exceeded our expectations...it was clean, warm, & inviting. Dinner at the Lodge was excellent. Have bird hunted here numerous times with friends, but this experience was delightful. Just check this place out!! It is definitely a "outdoor paradise". You wont be disappointed. Family who runs this business is very friendly. Very helpful planning your day or days with them. There is lodging. Restaurant has great homemade food. Great menu. We love kayaking on the Mecan river. They provide car spotting to the river. They also have kayak and canoe rentals. Small fee. But so worth it. You also get a River map:)

There are many businesses on site. I only ate at the resturant. Property is beautiful and well maintained. Good views from the resturant. Plenty of interesting decorations in the resturant. Including old signs, taxidermy animals, and old outdoors equiptment (snowshoes, chain saws, and such.

The food was very good, no complaints from any of the seven in my party. The waitress did warn us the appetizer bear paw will take longer than the others. It was delicious. Steaks cooked as requested. We all enjoyed our meals in a good atmosphere.

Friday fish fry was excellent. Needed a car spotter for Saturday and they were very accommodating informative and friendly. The river was beautiful. We should have taken the launch through the marsh then portaged to the river, but maybe next time. Thank you for your help and hospitality!

We went for dinner on a Friday night. Dinner service starts at 5pm. The bar area was packed with people waiting for 5pm to get tables. They were very efficient at getting table for everyone and food came out fast. Many people got fried fish. My husband had the duck which he said was very good. I had the salmon which was fishy tasting and a little over cooked. The baked potato was the best thing on my plate. The green beans were watery as if they hadn’t been strained enough, but were cooked properly. Overall, I advise ordering the fried food as it seems like that is what they do best.

We were out on a date and had been thinking of trying this restaurant for a long time. When we arrived we could see empty tables. After several minutes waiting, the hostess came out and told us curtly that they were giving the kitchen a chance to catch up because they were getting food out to 15 people. Our names were put on a list. My question as to how long the wait might be was not answered.
We sat and watched families come in and get seated before us after waiting about 10 minutes. When we had waited a little over 45 minutes, we had to leave because we needed to get home to our kids at a decent hour. Knowing that there would now be at least 10 orders before ours we weren't sure how long it would take to get food.

It was a great experience from the time we met Kelly to reviewing our route on Mecan River till the time the owner picked us up and helped us out of the kayaks. Kelly gave us good information about the river and we had a great time. They dropped us off at our destination and picked us up 2 hrs. 20 minutes later. We have great memories and photos! We would recommend visiting Mecan River Outfitters & Lodge.
After kayaking we had the Fish Fry at the Lodge. We were given plenty of fish and it was as delicious. Try the homemade Blueberry Cobbler Cheese cake or take it home like we did! Yummy!

This family does such a wonderful job with their setup. My friend and I recently stayed here for a kayaking weekend and had the best time. The rooms were spacious and comfortable. The lodge itself is warm and inviting. Every single staff member we interacted with was kind and incredible helpful. Michelle greeted us for registration and walked us to our room. Kelly took care of us over in Outfitters to help get us ready for kayaking. Leanne was our gracious host in the early morning with coffee. Our entire experience from start to finish was absolutely wonderful. We will be back for sure. If you’re looking for a relaxing getaway with a clean and cozy atmosphere, great food and even greater hosts, this is the place for you.

Got there at 5 pm when they opened and waited 1 hour and fifteen minutes to get seated. Found out I needed to be there at least by 430 to be seated at 5? Fantastic family run lodge, cabins, and outfitters. Lodge was awesome. Super comfortable. Has a common area that we could all hang out in. Restaurant was amazing. Breakfast every morning was delicious and hardy. Cook is one of the sisters, so the scrumptious apple pie not only tastes like home made; it is home made. Had a great time kayaking. Drop off and pick up were quick and smooth. Cabins were really nice and they have camping spots. Cute cows as well.

Lunch service ended really awful after bad food complaint, but server was sweet. Never have I had to complain about a salad, or any food for that matter…but the lettuce sat in a pool of salsa juice, and was covered in only salsa. The kicker is that the blonde bartender charged fully
price and literally argued with me about how that’s what a fajita was….but it wasn’t a fajita, it was a soaking wet salad. Weird. Don’t recommend their dry, rude atmosphere and wet salads.

I have been eating at mecan also pheasant hunted for more than 10 years. So tonight my family and I waited nearly an hr to have bad service my pimerib was terrible...mind you I eat nothing but meat. Ordered the bear claw that was like eating rotten fish and yes it is make with crab...as I was leaving the cook make a rude comment saying get out.? Still charged for all the bad food 10yrs never complained and they never apologized about how rude they were...its to bad place fell downhill as did the people I had so much respect for. I always thought the customer was right what a joke. I'll never eat there again! It really is to bad we've always adored Kelly. Paul is a great man such a sweetheart has always respected us.I've always like him. It's a shame I won't see them again because of this incident. Just blows my mind about the whole situation I have always enjoyed coming there its a beautiful place!

Our family of 11 totally enjoyed our 2-hour paddle (canoes and kayaks) up the Fox River. A family run business who took great care of us from beginning to end. We had a relaxing time enjoying the beautiful water and scenery. Ended our adventure with lunch at Horseradish in Princeton. Both businesses are highly recommended!
