Friends is a lovely place to spend an evening or even a lazy afternoon. Mike, the owner, is a friendly, cool character. The cook really can! He serves up some of the best fried pub grub around--super crispy on the outside and moist and tender inside. The Friday fish fry offers the largest selection of any of the neighboring villages. My catfish was a winner as was my husband's bluegill.

A second room alongside the barroom is lined with red upholstered booths and embossed red and gold wallpaper. It is underused but has great dining potential. We were made welcome to take our drinks there and wile away the afternoon playing rummy. We'll definitely do that again.

Good country music plays almost constantly. The bar is short on gin but seems to have enough of everything else. Both bartenders on two separate occasions could use some coaching and perhaps a weekend class or two to bring them up to snuff but to their credit they willingly and graciously take gentle instructions from patrons.

Friend's biggest challenge will be competition from a long and well-established counterpart just a block away. The loyalty is steadfast but I encourage everyone to drop in on friends at least once for a refreshing alternative change of scene. It's always good to have a "Friendly" back up Cuz Ya Neva Knowww.

I’ve been to a ton of fish fry’s, but this one truly takes the cake. In the picture is bluegill. It is so tasty, crunchy, with a hint of salty. I’m usually a person that asks for a take home box, but I’m eating every bit of the fish fry’s here. Worth every penny!!!!! Best fish in town by far. Better than the Woods.

I'm writing this as I burn my mouth on the jalapeno poppers. Don't let the small space turn you away from this little bar and grill. My friends and I were coming from the House on the Rock and were at the point of near cannabilism with hunger. By golly, did we stumble upon a true hidden gem! The menu is truly affordable and offers a limited yet tasteful selection ($7-13). The tap beers are even cheaper. Being lactose intolerant, I am qualified to say I never understood "good" cheese curds. They were all cheesy and all affected my digestion the same. The cheese curds here changed my life. The cheesiest curds with the commercial-like, mouth-watering cheese pull. The jalapeno poppers are the next best thing to the curds. Soft, spicy, cheesy, and crispy: the four horsemen of great jalapeno qualities. The real food hasn't even come out but I couldn't wait for this review. I trust the quality of the main course if the appetizers were this great.

The main course came, and, let me tell you, it's a bad day to have dietary restrictions. The deluxe burger was tender, fresh, and savory. I cleared my plate in 35 minutes, and have no complaints, except that I didn't take a picture to make it last longer.

Good food and very cheap. Our bill was only $31.00! My wife and I ate and had two drinks each and our 13 yr old daughter ate and had two root beers. The food was good and so was the service. Keep up the good work guys. They didn't have Friday Fish Fry yet but we got right in with no wait on a Friday and were served right away.

I was a loser. There was one thing that changed that, and that was the divine food and attitude of at the people at the Fine and Famous Lone Rock Bistro, Taproom, and Temple. I understand why they hide the divine secrets this kitchen keeps, and I will respect that, but it MUST be said that this place will CHANGE YOU.

The Lone Rock Bistro is a local business with high-quality food, decent prices, and friendly service. The building's exterior made me unsure of what I might expect; however, the interior of the establishment is a nicely renovated older building. The waiter was friendly and accommodating. I chose the Meditteranean Platter. The mixed greens were fresh, and the hummus was flavorful. My friend chose the baked cod in butter with a baked potato and felt that it was well prepared and flavorful. The Lone Rock Bistro also has a nice selection of beer and mixed drinks. I chose the Unbeatable Margarita, and was very impressed with the high-quality!

Stopped here today after a hike at Governor Dodge SP. What a great place! Servers were friendly, attentive, and prompt. Our food was perfect and delicious. Don't miss the "Donut Dessert" - two fresh-out-of-fryer donuts covered in cinnamon sugar and caramel and served with ice cream. We will be back here often.

Walked in to a bar of about 9 people sitting. Waited almost 10 min to order 2 taps at the bar, they had Scaredy Cat for the win. Went to sit down and waited close to 12-15 min to order an appetizer with 3 other tables eating and 1 waiting for food. 25 min later with no appetizer we went to the bar to just pay for our drinks and leave. 3 tap beers in a little bar in the middle of nowhere = $15. Payed our tab and tipped $3 for the semi cold beer. Bartender says to me " oh, we are just so busy rite now" (Sunday around 6p) . We went to monks.... Better choice.

We’ve eaten there several times now and have never been disappointed! The food is absolutely delicious and reasonable. The Mediterranean salad is so flavorful but my favorite is the tuna sandwich. My mouth is watering just thinking about it! I like it without the bun so I can really taste the aioli and roasted peppers. Yum!!

My husband and I took the scenic route home from Prairie du Chien today. Being a Monday in midst of the pandemic, there weren't many options for lunch along the way.

The "bistro" in the name caught my eye so I checked out the menu. While lacking in European options I think of in relation to this term, the menu was refreshingly diverse. So we added a stop to our Google map directions and headed for lunch.

The directions took us past the place and when we found it we weren't impressed by the outside. But my dad often said the best food in our country is found where you least expect it.

Wow! Was dad right! We had the best steak fries & sweet potato fries ever! I'd drive the hour+ from home to get them again.

My husband got the Ultimate Grilled Cheese which combined the following ingredients into a scrumptious & very filling sandwich...Gouda, cheddar and mozzarella cheese topped with tomato, Guacamole, and caramelized onion on Texas Toast. Red pepper aioli on the side

My Mushroom & Swiss Burger tasted like only truly fresh beef can taste...deee-lish! The toasted brioche bun added class to this classic pub style burger.

As is true with most businesses today, the staff worked hard to keep up due to understaffing. The "now hiring " banner at top of their website made us aware of this challenge in advance so we were patient with what pre-pandemic standards may have labeled "slow" service. Yet we didn't feel like we were left in need.

This hidden gem of a bar is worth a quick drive from the Spring Green area. Having been surprisingly underwhelmed by our previous dining experiences in total in the surrounding area, we took a flyer on this low profile establishment and were not disappointed. Standard bar fare is done with a bit of flair, the ambience is warm and inviting, and the service is attentive. Would definitely recommend to anyone visiting or looking to switch it up from the usual suspects in the area. (And our server Winter, was an absolute treasure!) Be you local or on vacation, give this young upstart of an establishment a try, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

We are vacationing from over 3 hours away and were looking for somewhere to eat. After a google search, Lone Rock Bistro & Taproom had an amazing rating so my wife and I decided to check them out. I sampled some of their different beers and ordered a Gyro and my wife had a Cobb salad. Needless to say, the food was absolutely amazing and the owner/bartender was super friendly. I cannot say enough of this place. A genuine and delicious dive (and I mean that as a highest compliment) with amazing service and a full and wicked stocked bar. Food is creative and exceptional and no one left hungry, and the atmosphere is as comfortable as slipping on an old slipper even though I've never been there before. Great owners, wonderful staff, friendly respectful speedy service and the bonus of great food. The updates were thought out and executed with care; love all of the little touches including using the historical photos in the bar top. Picked up Take Out at this new place today and had a great experience. Fresh, diverse menu really elevates the food available in the area. Tasty vegetarian offerings that aren't just an afterthought. Everything we ordered was very good and every dish had thoughtful touches and great flavor combinations. We took our meal to the Lone Rock boat landing and were able to watch the river float by while eating great food. So excited to have this option in Lone Rock!
