Of all the Mexican restaurants, Mi Fortuna has better taste, but there are some repeated nuances from previous endeavors(El Camino)

Wanted lunch, stopped by. Typical Mexican restaurant atmosphere, but the service was excellent. I got ground beef enchiladas, which were good, and the rice was excellent. The beans though weren't that good. Runny and bland. I shifted the rice over there, and it helped.
The price was very reasonable.

Very lazy cooking. Do not get the Margarita. You'd be better off mixing bottom shelf with Gatorade. Very nice people but, zero passion.

The food was delicious, and the service was excellent. The space is not as big as the old El Camino, but that is exactly how El Camino started. So happy to have them back!

There is potential here and room for improvement. The guac was a bit off and the salsa too salty. The taco meat was dry, no juicyness. Service is good.

I went here for the first time hoping good things and was so sadly disappointed. The food was not good the stake for the burrito had no flavor, mine was tough on my food. I then got the fried ice cream because I had high hopes and it was soggy and not worth it. We spent a lot there that night and was our wedding anniversary so I am kind of bummed.

Mi Fortuna Mexican Restaurant – Review

A cozy and colorful spot tucked into South 8th Street in Sheboygan, Mi Fortuna offers a comfortable, modestly-sized dining room with tasteful décor and a casual vibe. Service was timely and efficient, though interaction with the server felt more transactional than warm.

The horchata stood out as excellent—creamy, not overly sweet, and refreshingly spiced. Chips and salsa were standard; the chips were notably thick (a matter of preference), and the salsa options had a surprising jump in heat between mild and hot. Blending them gave a better balance.

The Taco Salad Mi Fortuna was a bit of a mixed bag. It tasted great overall—hearty, well-seasoned—but the steak was on the chewy side and the expected grilled onions and peppers were served raw, which disappointed slightly. The edible shell seemed possibly fried in oil past its prime, lending an off-note.

Parking is easy and free along the street, which is always appreciated.

Final Verdict: 4.5 stars
A solid lunch spot with standout horchata and flavor-forward dishes, even if a few texture and prep choices missed the mark. Worth returning with a few adjusted expectations.

*WARNING* They're back! I've bragged at work about our in dining experience on Sunday. Co-workers that went on opening week informed me of complaints because of small portions, quality not the same to El Camino.
That being said. We've had an Excellent experience! I ordered their Molé platter, my better half ordered Enchiladas. I know this was Great, if my better half goes out of her way to say "This is good!" Without being asked, it's like 😳. It was So fulfilling, even I had to take the rest to-go!
The owners even baby-sat our newborn while we ate! It's like, wait a min, talk about Full-service! I would've added pics but we devoured what we could ASAP! Yes highly recommended!

Saw Mi Fortuna on the way home and decided to give it a go one week. I was VERY glad I did in the end!

The building is a little cramped but luckily easy to move around in and very clean!

Service was grade a; attentive, polite and just pleasant to speak to on and off.

The food was great! Made to perfection, well priced, and good for leftovers, it was not easy to keep myself from wolfing it all down!

No complaints; Mi Fortuna is a great newish Mexican restaurant that id recommend to anyone in the area!

Pictures and videos are of the outside and inside of the building, menu, and food I got!

I had the al pastor burrito lunch special. The food was real good and reminded me of what El Camino was, which makes sense being the same owners. It was a bit more than I was expecting too for a lunch special. The staff was very attentive and friendly, and the inside looks great from what looks like a pretty big remodel from when it was Seeboths. The only downside in my mind was neither of the complimentary salsas had any heat to them, but while leaving it did look like they have a hot sauce bar.

The atmosphere is cozy and comfortable. The building was tastefully remodelled. Service was a little slow when we arrived, but it greatly improved when additional staff arrived. Food was very tasty. I had Chili Verde and it was perfectly prepared. My wife had chicken enchiladas with Verde salsa and she loved them. The other people in our group had Chimichangas and a carne esada burrito. Both were enjoyed thoroughly. I would certainly come back again.

When we arrived we weren't greeted. Not even a glance at us. We were sat down and it took a while for the server to come over and ask us what we wanted to drink. Another 10 minutes go by and the server forgot what we ordered to drink. Finally after 25 minutes we got the drinks. It took quite a long time to get our food and drinks all together. Our server never once came over to ask if we needed something. But we did see that everyone was engaging with other tables except for us. We will not return. The food was way too over seasoned and not the best I've had. I'd say this restaurant needs to work on their customer service skills. I'd like to add that it felt awkward having no music playing.

My wife and I stopped at Mi Fortuna last week and were VERY happy.
We were greeted and promptly seated.
My wife enjoyed the margarita special and i ordered the Negra Modello.
The chips they brought out were warm and crisp and included two kinds of salsa.
I ordered the fajita combo with the shrimp and crab and my wife had the seafood enchilada. Both were served within 10 minutes and were hot and delicious. My shrimp were a little smaller than usual, but the large cut vegetables (peppers, onions and carrots) were properly seared and were great.
We will definitely be back.

We went to Mi Fortuna which is a new Mexican restaurant which opened in February 2025 that is owned by the former owner of the "El Camino" in Sheboygan. Starting with the Salsa, the mild salsa was on the “hot” side. My partner had Taco Salad. The meat was on the bottom of the taco bowl and tasted like it was cooked on old oil. The “salad” portion was a large hunk of iceberg lettuce that was not chopped at all and completely covered the meat.

I had the Burrito al pastor. My meat tasted like it was cooked with or close to some sort of fish. (I happen to not like any fish, and I found the taste disturbing.) The price of the meals was a little on the high side. The service was good and the atmosphere was also “just ok.” We were very disappointed and will not be returning.

Glad they decided not to keep El Camino's name. While the food is delicious, that's about the only similarity. The place is tiny, so servers want to boot you out soon. One free soda and salsa refill. Want more? Pay up. Will stick to carry out since my family does love the food.

Staff was friendly from the time I walked in until the time I left. I ordered the Steak Con Queso. My steak was full of flavor and tender. The vegetables were cooked perfectly. The cheese was melted very nicely. I recommend this restaurant & I will have the Steak Con Queso again.

I'm so glad the owners of El Camino reopened another restaurant in Sheboygan! I was genuinely sad when they closed down because they are the best authentic Mexican in the county. I was also so glad that the rice recipe seems to be the same as before.

The Chili Verda Burrito was fantastic! The best in Sheboygan. Delicious pork. Just as I remember from their previous restaurant. The biggest and most flavorful chimichangas also…we had beef and chicken. Don’t forget their fresh chips and salsa!

Mi Fortuna Mexican Restaurant: A Hidden Oasis in Sheboygan

In the vast sea of dining options, stumbling upon a truly authentic and memorable restaurant is a rare delight. Mi Fortuna Mexican Restaurant in Sheboygan is one of those hidden places that, thanks to a simple Google search, became an unexpected yet incredible culinary discovery. From the moment we walked in, it was evident that this establishment is a labor of love—where authentic Mexican cuisine meets warm hospitality in a setting that is both quaint and impeccably maintained.

First Impressions: A Cozy and Inviting Atmosphere
Tucked away in Sheboygan, Mi Fortuna exudes charm from the moment you step inside. The space is clean, cozy, and inviting, with an atmosphere that immediately puts you at ease. Whether you're looking for a leisurely meal with friends or a quick bite at the small but well-stocked bar in the back, this place offers a welcoming environment that makes you want to stay a little longer.

Service: Attentive, Patient, and Friendly
The service at Mi Fortuna was outstanding. The staff was exceptionally patient with all our questions, providing thoughtful recommendations and ensuring we had the best experience possible. Whether you're a seasoned lover of Mexican cuisine or trying something for the first time, don’t hesitate to ask for suggestions—the team here is knowledgeable, kind, and eager to help.

The Food: Authentic, Fresh, and Overflowing with Flavor
If there’s one thing that defines Mi Fortuna, it’s the food—fresh, well-seasoned, and undeniably authentic. Every dish that arrived at our table reflected the care and expertise that went into its preparation.

We started with the homemade salsa at the table, a bright and zesty accompaniment to crisp, lightly salted tortilla chips. Wanting to elevate the experience, we also ordered the guacamole, which was velvety smooth with just the right balance of lime, onion, and fresh avocado. It was the kind of guacamole that demands extra chips simply because you won’t want to leave a single bite behind.

For our main course, we indulged in beef chimichangas and al pastor tacos—both of which were exceptional. The chimichangas were golden and crispy on the outside, yet incredibly tender and flavorful on the inside. The al pastor tacos? A revelation. Each bite offered a perfect harmony of spice, smokiness, and sweetness, with the pork beautifully marinated and cooked to perfection.

No meal is complete without a good drink, and Mi Fortuna’s margaritas delivered. Refreshing, well-balanced, and not overly sweet, they complemented the meal without overpowering the flavors of the food. Whether you’re celebrating or simply unwinding after a long day, the margaritas alone are worth a visit.

Final Thoughts: A Must-Visit for Mexican Cuisine Lovers
Mi Fortuna is more than just a restaurant—it’s a testament to what great food, exceptional service, and a welcoming atmosphere can create. It far exceeded our expectations, and we’re already looking forward to our next visit. Whether you’re craving bold flavors, comforting classics, or just a great spot to sip on a margarita and enjoy chips and guac at the bar, Mi Fortuna delivers on every level.

A small word of advice: if you’re planning on dining in, dress appropriately. This isn’t a fast-food joint or a casual brat-and-burger hangout. The food and service at Mi Fortuna deserve a little respect—so leave the pajamas and sweats at home, especially if you're over 18. Trust us, this experience is well worth the effort.

For those seeking an authentic Mexican culinary experience in Sheboygan, Mi Fortuna Mexican Restaurant is a must-visit.
