I am absolutely floored by this place. Every single bite was exquisite. The tater tots were so crunchy and well-seasoned, the brussel sprouts were amazing, and the burger was probably the best burger I've ever had in a restaurant, hands down. I tried the OK Burger, and it was more than OK! I was sad when it was gone! The sauces are to die for, the smokey ranch, and maple bacon jam were amazing. My wife loved her jalapeno burger and even raved about the side salad. I will be coming back here, often. Congrats to the owners and the chef on such a beautiful representation of what a burger place can be. This was a home run.

We stopped for lunch, heard raving reviews of this place. For lunch it seemed pretty quiet. We were sat in a corner by the windows. First impression of the server was, he really enjoys his job. Not necessarily a bad thing but it began to make us uncomfortable, the amounht of explaining of the restaurant and then the specials. He listed each dish with each ingredient, and it became hard to listen. He didnask about dietary restrictions or allergies which was a first for us.
I was happy that he continued to check on us throughout the meal though. A second gentleman stopped, i believe the manager, I feel because I was nursing my cocktail while I was eating. He asked about that first before anything else. Again a polite gentleman but like the first was a bit oiverly friendly and made it uncomfortable.

Food itself wasn't bad, burgers were good. Fries and tots were coated with an odd spicy, sweet, salty seasoning. Due to the amount on the tots it made them almost inedible.

Restaurant itself seemed nice, Bob Ross played on the TV, although all we heard were other tables talking. Minimalistic rustic feel. Gnats and flies buzzing about is always a turn off in a restaurant while trying to eat your meal.

Our bill gave us a bit of sticker shock, even though we ordered drinks we didnt expect it to be that much. This place will be a special treat or date night in the future, not a regular stop.

My family went for lunch on a Sunday. Although business was good, we were seated immediately in a well designed dining room.

Our server was amazing! She was attentive and personable and took care of our orders with care.

The star of our meal, however, was the food. The pulled pork was juicy and flavorful (my son had this). My smash burger was delicious! Just the right amount of sauce and veg with crispiness around the edges and juicy in the middle. My wife had the falafel wrap and loved it.

What a great hidden gem! I have driven by this place so many times and had no idea it was a bar/restaurant. The staff were very welcoming, and our server was knowledgeable, friendly and attentive. Had a great experience here for a birthday dinner with my family! Was able to be seated immediately and was given great attention by the staff. Was offered water cups with covers for our kids (as well as a side dish of bar cherries to keep them happy!). My children said their mac & cheese was the BEST they have ever had and cleaned their plates (cavatappi noodles with homemade sauce). My innovative wife dipped some tater-tots in the remaining cheesiness which was a big hit with us all. Tater-tots were all fresh, crispy, and perfectly seasoned. 1st time visit. Went for lunch and enjoyed the cleanliness of the restaurant. I was pleasantly surprised by how much space is available inside. Even though the restaurant is lined by trees on the front side, the blinds were kept closed during a beautiful sunny day, which is a detail I felt made it less appealing. Upon being seated, our server had a definite vibe of self-imposed coolness. The non chalant manner of speaking was a turnoff. Perhaps my disinterest in her too cool for school demeaner prevented her from being more professional. At 11:30 a.m., not many patrons were present yet. And as we left at 1pm, it was still just a few handful of patrons. Therefore, it does disappoint me that our server barely made any pit stops to refill our drinks. In fact, another server was kind enough to refill our water as well as offer another cocktail. Which was what had me decide to give only 20% tip of 100 plus bill. My only guess is she is somehow related to an owner and therefore can get away with not smiling or saying thank you. Entitled. Oh, well. And as for the food. It was basically well done enough to stand apart from the rest of the burger joints simply by being prepared by professionally trained chefs. The quality of ingredients you can taste immediately. The pomme frites were outstanding and made just the way they are meant to be made. Perfect. If you want a perfect French fry. Go to Mill City. My friend had the OK burger and really enjoyed it. I had the brisket, and the meat was tender and generously portioned. But only had a deep smoky flavor. I had a hard time tasting beef over the smoke. As a transplant from North Carolina and raised both in California and Texas. I know a little bit about good tasting smoked meats. And as much as I like the whole craft beer aficionado trend, I feel there is something missing with this cute spot for hip folks. And I think it should start with servers who can be personable. And I just got the word from my friend who joined me for lunch that she has been burbing smoke since. I'm thinking maybe cherry wood or pecan wood would be great. But I believe the mesquite is just too basic and intense for wonderful cuts of meat. If one is to charge those prices, it would be appropriate to use better wood.

Mill city is the place to be! Everything about this place is homey, friendly and absolutely lovey! The overhauled dining experience for sure! Jo was our server and she was so attentive, helpful and funny and answered all our little questions! Lauren was a bartender that made our night, her smile lit up the room and she even asked what color umbrella we wanted in our cocktail.. HOW CUTE! Really amazing food. The Mac and cheese has brisket throughout, which makes you realize many places simply sprinkle some on top.

The special burger was called Honky Tonk Heart burn or ache, it was great. The OK burger was fine. The brisket French dip was good.

Their cheese curds were the best we've had in Wisconsin and the house made smoked ranch was a real surprise hit for us, it was thicker and deeper flavored than the regular like Hidden Valley thinner consistency.

Had a great lunch today at Mill City Public House in Kaukauna. The food was delicious and the Jackalope decor was fantastic. They kept Bob Ross on one television and Bon Appetite on the other. The service was amazing and we had the opportunity to meet one of the chefs. I had the "an okay burger" by name but it was everything great. We also had the brisket sandwich which was a home run. Great addition to local dining options. First week of service had a shortened menu, but excited to see what they bring. Not a huge space, generally inviting public ambiance. Host and staff were all friendly and helpful. Well rounded tap beer list, and a cocktail list clearly chosen with care to cover a broad spectrum. You need to try the Street Corn Tots and Baby Green Salad and any of the burgers.. Table had the OK Burger with fries and Bacon Jam Burger with the baby green salad. My husband was on the hunt for some chicken wings and read that this place had some of the best in the valley. When we arrived we had just barely beat the crowd of people. Our waiter (Alex(?) I think) was amazing! Very knowledgeable of all drinks, apps, meals, etc. provided guidance on different items that are hits with other diners and we were not led astray! The street corn tots with brisket were amazing, the fresh cilantro really brought the dish together. I got the brisket Mac and cheese, that was also good (very rich) so I got a to go box. Upon entering, I noticed the barstools and booths were of the 70's wood/vinyl style and thought "run down and outdated". It couldn't have been further from the truth. All of the booths and stools were in like new condition. Next I noticed the bar/restaurant had a modern type decor and thought "kind of weird ". Again, I was WAY off because the longer I looked at it, the more I liked the mix of styles. I finally decided that whoever designed this, new perfecty how blend the 2 motifs. The blending did not stop there, the chef knew EXACTLY what he/she was doing blending different flavors in everything we ate. We both had iced tea which was good...it went uphill from there. We started with the brussel sprouts and smoked chicken wings, both were delicious. I had the kimchi burger and peanut butter chili made with stout beer. Both of these had my taste buds dancing. The expert blend of flavors in both were something special. My wife had the jalapeño burger and house salad which she said were very good. I added pics of the menu items we had for better description. We started with Alex as a server and ended with Chris as it was shift change. Both were very polite, professional and knowledgeable about the menu. Needless to say, we WILL be back!

In a world without consequences I would go there twice a day and eat the chicken sandwich. It's that delicious. Hard for me to experience the whole menu when one thing Is so good. Dessert is worthwhile too. You can obviously tell the team of chefs is passionate and invested. Thank you for bringing some much needed life into the valleys food scene.

Came here with my brother and sister in law, and brought another brother from out of town. We had the fish fry. Outstanding!! Walleye had a fantastic crunchy panko crust and the filets were flaky. Fries were great! It was really busy, but staff were very attentive and friendly. Can't recommend this place enough!😁

Why haven’t we been here sooner!!! Bacon Jam burger was one of the best burgers I’ve ever had!! The Saturday special was flank steak that was cooked perfectly and had tasty sides. We will definitely be back!!

Best burger I have ever had! I ordered the Black and Blue smash burger, the flavor was incredible. Two patties done perfectly, a bit crisp on the edges, as they should be, but not dry. Peppered bacon and house made blue cheese sauce topped off the burger plus a garlic aioli. I added an Arugula side salad, instead of tots or fries ($3 up charge), that too was very tasty. 1/2 rack ribs were also very good. Did I mention the staff? From the moment we walked in the door the staff was exceptional. The hostess was very pleasant, we walked by another staff member on the way to our table and she said "hi". Then we were greeted by our server Alex. He was fantastic, one of the best waiters I have ever encountered. Because it was our first time at Mill City, Alex explained the menu and described some of the entrees to us, not just saying two patties with sauce..... He also checked on us during the meal making sure that we weren't in need of anything,
Only issue I can foresee is that when we go back I won't know what to order because there are so many great choices on their menu.

I don't have a single complaint about my experience at this restaurant. My SIL & I were there from out of town & took a chance on a place we've never been. The atmosphere was a vibe - although I've never been to one, it felt like a cool speakeasy lounge. I went outside my box and tried the soup of the day which was like a southwest squash and it was really good. We both ordered the mushroom & swiss smash burgers with fries and it was delicious. The fries had a seasoning blend that was more than just salt & pepper and I really liked that. My SIL asked for a side of ranch and was recommended to have their smokehouse ranch. She couldn't stop saying how good it was. We ordered the seasonal cheesecake. This cheesecake had a really amazing cinnamon whipped cream on it. It tasted like cinnamon toast crunch cereal in the best way. It was also served with a big snickerdoodle cookie and the cheesecake itself was perfectly light & the crust was perfect. Our server Alex was very kind and after telling him we'd never been there he walked us through the whole menu, specials, & even when we were set on the cheesecake he described it in detail to us. Great experience! We live an hour away & I already want to go back.

Had dinner there tonight after attempting one of the Supper Clubs and wasn't willing to wait and stand for 1hr 45 min to sit down in a crowded dining area.
Mill City Public House was close and although there was still a wait it was nowhere near as long as the other one. We sat at the bar for about 30 minutes where my wife ran into an old coworker so they chatted for awhile until we were seated.
Once seated our waiter was quick, friendly and attentive during our time there. I had the smoked steak that was on the special menu and it was amazing down to the last bite. my wife and mother in law both had burgers ... also great and the fries were actually very good. then down to dessert, we had an order of beignets which were hot and very tasty.
All in all we had a great experience tonight and will definitely be returning and recommending to our friends!

This was the second time at Mill City Public House for me. I ordered the Black and Bleu Smash Burger with French Fries on both visits. The con was the same, a highly over seasoned plate, almost to the point of being unpleasant. I like salt and I’m a former career chef but this is a problem that needs addressing. From my experience, It usually stems from cooks who smoke or cooks who don’t taste the food periodically to check their seasoning. The bleu cheese is naturally salty as is the bacon so logic calls for some restraint while seasoning the patties and the fries. I’d like to think in a restaurant of this level that offers this quality at a premium, that the Chefs are not just going through the motions of producing food without regard to proper techniques. I would try it again IF I were invited back. If the problem has been resolved, I might consider some BBQ. But until then, I will try the competition. By the way, atmosphere and ambience are rock-solid. On a side note, after asking for an extra side of ketchup, the food runner delivered it with a deadpan comment of “We’re all you can eat, so just ask.” If it was ment as a joke, the humor was lost on me. The delivery felt snarky and directly impolite. Ball’s in your court MCPH.

Going out to eat is hit or miss honestly, and it's too expensive to find your meal and service mediocre. But our visit to Mill City was nothing short of amazing! I moved to Appleton two years ago from Madison. I live downtown. Was out and about one Saturday trying to get feel for the city. I walked by The Mill House and walked in for lunch and a couple of beers. There were only two other people in the bar area sitting at the far end of the bar. I chose a seat on the end closest to the door. They have two tv’s on at each end of the bar area. I ordered a beer and asked for a menu. The bartender gave me the menu right away and went to get me the beer. When he came back I said the Badgers are playing could you please put the game on for me. He said “No” I asked why? You don’t have cable? He responded yes we do but we don’t put sports on here that’s not the image we want.
I said it’s Wisconsin and it’s Saturday and the Badgers are playing and I’m the only person here in front of this tv. He said I’m so won’t turn it. The Food Channel was playing.
I said ok pulled out $10 out it on the bar and said I’ll never be back and walked out and have never been back. While a half dozen of other establishments I think appreciate the few thousands of dollars I spent this place doesn’t get a slice of that.

I don’t leave many reviews, but I felt obligated to let people know how fantastic my first dining experience went at Mill City Public House. To start, I recommend scheduling a reservation because a lot of people already know how great this spot is. The vibe of the environment was something you won’t want to miss. When you walk in you are greeted by happy faces, easy listening music, and Bob Ross silently painting on the TVs within the establishment. Can it get any better? Yes. Aside from the awesome choice to have the “Jackalope” as a mascot, the food and service were TOP NOTCH in quality. Specifically, the FOH Manager Jon and our server Alex were extremely professional, friendly, and knowledgeable. Both provided us with recommendations and suggestions that we gladly accepted and were impressed with. While we waited for our food order (not a long time), I believe we had three different staff members top off our water glasses before they were empty, further solidifying my opinion on their already stellar service. I will spare myself the embarrassment of trying to explain the elegant dishes that we ordered, but please trust me when I say that you will not be disappointed. If it sounds good to you, it will be good. Do yourself a favor and make a reservation at Mill City Public House.

This was a great experience, the food was excellent and came reasonably fast. The cheese curds and brussel sprouts were both great. The only knock is the accessibility, the parking lot is small (there is stret parking) and there is not a ton of room inside. But there's a reason for that, it's good and busy. Just be prepared!

First time here! I had the blackened salmon BLT and my husband had the original smash burger and we shared some loaded tots. Everything was delicious! Our server was attentive and very knowledgeable about the menu and specials and helped me choose a special cocktail. I highly recommend the Aviation gin cocktail. We went on a Friday evening and it was hopping and there's limited seating so make sure you get there early!

Sorry, but no way…the staff very nice people but the food come on now very overpriced tater tots ( out of the freezer bag ) over salted french fries over salted with a funky lime lemon flavor not for me told him I didn’t like the tater tot’s too salty Didn’t offer anything else I had the smoked chicken wrap too much dressing that was salty as well. Husband had Smashburger. I can get the same thing even better at Chili’s for $10 at lunch with a side salad beautiful place but you’re paying for the atmosphere. My opinion only …everybody should try things for themselves!

I'll start by saying the food was definitely above average. It was all very tasty and good quality.

My issue was when my brother asked for someone to turn the tv channel to the NFL playoffs, he was told they "can't turn on sports." I asked a different waitress who told me the same, that the owner has a no sports policy. Bob Ross painting was on the TV.
I can understand if the owner doesn't care for sports, but what ever happened to making sure the customer is happy?

My siblings and I(7 in total) had supper and spent over 200 dollars all together. Sadly we will not be back.

Awesome food and service! My boyfriend and I got there about 5:30 on a Saturday night and they said it would be about an hour and a half wait. I asked if we could wait at the bar. The nice man at the desk said we definitely could but no where to sit. Which was fine. We got a seat about 15 minutes later when a couple people got their table. We were still on our first drink and the man that was at the desk came up to us and said they had a table open between reservations for us. So it was only about a half hour wait. We sat down and we both ordered specials. My boyfriend devoured the burger and said it was the best one he’s ever had. I got the Buffalo tots. The tots were nice and crispy but it could have used more sauce, but I asked for some and she brought it right away. Very good service and nice staff! It’s rare that the food quality, service and atmosphere meet up but Mill City Public House did it! The host was well spoken and attentive, keeping us up to date while we waited for our table. Everything from the cheese curds to the burgers, chicken sandwich, soup, fries, tots and house-made sauces were really nicely seasoned and cooked well. The server took great care of us and acted like she was happy to be there, whether she was or not, and that’s unfortunately often not the case… to feel as though someone is happy that you’re at their table.

We didn’t get to sit at the bar but it looked inviting as well. Go stop and try Mill City out!

Had dinner with the family here - some food was good, lots were misses.

We had the cheese curd, street corn tots, and Brussels to start. The street corn tots were good! It was a good starter. The cheese curds were unique too as the batter was similar to Detroit style pizza crust.

Outside of that, the food was not that good. The poutine was a big miss and the burgers were overly greasy.

The side sauces were good though!

Just wouldn’t recommend this place as the price and quality don’t correlate.

Unbelievably inattentive service staff. Drink orders took forever even with 3 guys standing behind the bar, polishing glasses and goofing off. Haven't ever been this poorly treated in a restaurant ever before.
