Came here on a Saturday. Very cool bar, love the vibe of the place, it was packed though! A little close inside, my companions said the drinks were good and stiff, but it was hard to hear them over the boisterous din within. Ordered the Dan Dan noodles and I was super hungry when they arrived. Noodles were rich but there was something just a little off in the flavor, probably would have paid more attention to the off flavor if I wasn't so hungry. Left about an hour later, got back to my hotel and turned on an episode of "Ghost Adventures", about 20 minutes into the episode I went to the bathroom and started puking. Then bouts of nausea and puking for about 45 minutes. Laid down and drank half of a 6$ water from the hotel, threw up again about an hour later and then finally got to sleep. Nauseous the next day until about noon. Was there to attend "The Taste of Madison" on Sunday, decided not to go because my stomach was so messed up. Really bad start to my vacation, I won't eat there again.

This is such a neat place!

We had a group of 7 and it was a tight fit - Their tables are pretty small. All the food and drinks were wonderful and the entire place had a nice vibe. Very cute!

TLDR: Terrible Dan Dan; pizza has gone downhill, and 3 cup is ok. I've been a Nat Spil acolyte since they've opened. My friends joke that there's only one bar I go to -- Nat Spil. I'll still come here for the live DJs, vibes and drinks; but I'll never eat here again. As someone who lived in shanghai for 12 years, I've had lots of Dan Dan in my life....i've never had dan dan as terrible as we were serveed at Nat Spil...it basically overcooked noodles drowned in soy sauce. We used to come for the pizza, but that was also disspointing on our visit. Again, post dinner drinks and beats -- Yes. Dinner? Go somewhere else.

Hard to describe this place. Feels a little bit like a scene from a stream punk movie. Too dark for me. I can hardly see the menu. Food is definitely tasty. The lamb wantons were new for me and tasted great. Service was excellent. It is always nice to be able to see the cooks cook your dishes. Too dark to take photos so maybe next time. This is one of my favorite spots to visit when I'm in town. Great ambiance and music, and the cocktails are exceptional (try the Vesper!). Loved the atmosphere but not the service. The first waiter was cool and distant, but relatively polite. The woman who took over later, was just slightly more pleasant, but ended up wanting to charge us for an extra glass of wine. When I pointed it out, she just said 'oh sorry', like it was really not a big deal. 2025. Staying nearby, walked around the block and picked a place based on smell and how weird it looked (weird > not). This place won hands down. Inside it's like someone REALLY cleaned up a dive bar. Staff were very friendly and helpful in picking menu items. Table spacing is reasonable. It's a little loud at 8pm but you can easily hear across the table. Loved the mix of dim sum, tofu, noodles and pizza. Everyone else said it but 3 cup was great. Sausage pizza was also excellent with a nice crisp although we couldn't place the crust style. Drinks were reasonably priced and well put together. Coming from Chicago, the whole menu was a really great deal. We'll be back next time we're in Madison.

Nattspil was amazing! I was completely thrown off guard by how good the food was and I was not expecting that! WOW! I started the night off with the Crab and Crawfish Rangoo and the we’re just right. The tamarind sauce gives these rangoos a different spin but not enough to where you are eating something completely different than what you would expect. The Three Cup Chicken was phenomenal. Actually, I wish I had some for dinner tonight. The chicken was cooked just right! It was not rubbery or over cooked just right tender and juicy. One thing I will note is the dinning area. It was definitely a bit tight and there wasn’t much room to sit or walk around. With food that good, you don’t have to worry about spacious sitting and being able to maneuver freely. The food was definitely worth going to Nattspil and I will be back!

I have been coming to Natspill for a while for their food, but I believe last weekend was the last. Sat at the bar for the first time ever, and within a few minutes of our drinks being served, a cockroach crawled in between me and my girlfriend. We waited to see it again, and when we did, we called out to one of the chefs and he squashed it in front of us.

A few of the employees even the chef apologized and comped our drinks, but shortly after our food being served, we saw another cockroach on top of the bar. We should have left right there without paying, but instead we decided to sit patiently to alert staff again.

We did, and we got our appetizer comped. It's not that I disagree with the way they comped our food, I just think they should have gone a little bit more than above and beyond with an apology. The place is overall disgusting especially the small kitchen they have.

I worked in a kitchen before, cockroaches are a thing - but a clean kitchen removes majority of that issue.

All in all, go for the vibes and the experience and the drinks, consider the food a bonus but it's certainly not the main event. If the food stepped it up, it has potential to be an elite tier spot. Oh, and if they took reservations online.

It is, no doubt, an eclectic restaurant. Came here for dinner on Saturday night, and we were seated relatively quickly (~10 min wait) in the back, which was nice because it was too loud to converse with friends in the front end. Anyways, I tried the Aviation cocktail and the Veggie Dan Dan. It was pretty good, but the noodles seemed a bit oily and didn’t come with tofu like I thought they would (maybe I’d meant to order something else). We also had the cheese wontons, which were an interesting try (not bad to try once but personally didn’t love). Overall though, good food, pretty cool atmosphere, and great service!

Devan on 10/24 between 9 and 10pm was incredibly rude and wanted to fight with our table. She was waiting on the tables in the back room. After confronting her for not checking on our table in the back room she snapped and started teasing members of our group and asking why we couldn't have flagged her sooner. Walked in on Saturday night looking for a table just for two. Stood by the doorway with several others for over ten minutes. When the line finally got long enough that the door was open to allow for space, a staff member (manager?) came over and rudely said, “we’re full,” then immediately left. No option for a waitlist, no offer to find a seat at the bar., not even an apology. I managed to grab two bar stools as I waited for my second to park the car - which is a near impossible task with the construction everywhere. Another ten minutes at the bar before even being acknowledged, at which point I was simply given a menu. I asked the bartender if we were able to get on a list for a table while at the bar. She seemed to try to be helpful and said they could “figure it out.” After waiting another ten or so minutes (and declining a drink order), we finally made the call to hit a quieter, more customer service-friendly spot.

This is an amazing speakeasy. We were pleasantly surprised when we entered the restaurant. This place was recommended to us from the bartender Terry at The Rigby. The food here was amazing. This place is managed perfectly. It is a well oiled machine. The chef’s and bartender are very experienced. Drinks made perfectly by Glynis our bartender. The food was impeccable and full of flavor. James, Cash and Frank make everything fresh to order. The food is absolutely amazing. The atmosphere is laid back, intimate, and the music is spot on. The vibe in this restaurant elevates your experience. I strongly suggest sitting at the bar and watching the staff work flawlessly. We will be back and I highly recommend coming here if you are in the downtown Madison area.

The food was absolutely amazing. You can watch them make it and you can actually tell that the cooks really like their jobs. The wait staff was amazing even with all the people in their way. Food came out fast AF and was even better than anticipated!
Only downside, like most Madison venues, was that it is small and hard to navigate with a mobility aid. I bumped into many things with my rollator walker and there wasn't really any place for me to put it out of the way while sitting. There was no step into the building tho, so that was wonderful. But the staff was amazingly accommodating and absolutely phenomenal at their jobs. They all deserve raises!

The Natspil tastes amazing smells amazing and we always leave sated and happy. They make THE BEST 3 cup chicken dish on the planet! They have a very eclectic menu including dim sum, wood fired pizza as well as killer guacamole/chips and Mediterranean plate. Something for everyone. It used to be cash only but covid transitioned them to accepting credit cards. They have an excellent full bar and we love that they typically have at least one cider on tap. (Rotating flavors).. This is a speak easy that needs to be on the map. If you are looking for a great place to eat in Madison, you really need to find this place. It one of the best places to eat in town and is completely different than the average restaurants around town. I ordered a Chicken teriyaki type dish and it was amazing. This place packs a punch when it comes to flavor! Even their Wisconsin Old Fashion is amazing, if you have never had it you better ask for it quick and make sure to ask for a second before you start the first one. Me and a group of friends (4) went here to eat last night. Our server came up give us with water said nothing & walked away. He came back to take our orders for drinks & appetizers about 10 minutes later. kind of slow service & the place was not full. We all got our food which was delicious & patiently waited for him to come back 15-20 minutes later after finishing eating. We asked for our bill & when it came 5 minutes later he said he can't split it up for us the way we wanted. It was frustrating & we tried to politely ask him to figure out how we can pay for the food we ordered so we aren't shafting our friends. He then came back with a rude remark. I asked the bartender for a manager & he said "what's up" & i told him about the rude remark & that we just want our bill split up 3 ways. The server came back and had split the bill in a way I have never seen before in my life. he charged everyone for 1/4 the cost of every item that was ordered at the table. At this point i said look, just split the bill 2 ways this is getting ridiculous. He did so & we paid. my friend and I paid in cash and when he gave me the change back it was wrong. I then went to the manager and asked for my change and he replied "we round up". WHO DOES THAT?!?!? He gave me my change & then the supposed "manager" or bartender said I never want to see you here again. This is an example of the worst customer service I've ever had in my entire life. I will never go back to this place no matter how good the food might be. What a terrible experience.

Out after a concert and looking for a late night meal before bed, searching for pizza came naturally as we walked back to the hotel. It was dark out, we couldn't see a clear sign for this place yet there was an inviting dark red glow where you're unsure if it's cozy or closed..it's cozy!

What an atmosphere, an intimate one. The service was great, patrons engaged with one another in a balanced environment with upbeat music playing and a proper old fashioned in hand. Then came our sausage pizza which was a great thin crust with appropriately charred edges, the goat cheese provides a tangy backing and that sausage is perfect.

Incredibly rude waitstaff. They treat customers like an inconvenience. I suspect the auto-gratuity makes them feel like they can treat customers poorly. I used to really like the place, but it’s awful now.

Great place, a little to dark of atmosphere for me but I wear glasses to and I'm not as young as most of the people there. Also not very big of a place but that makes it kinda nice for people to get in a bit closer and socialize. 👍👍👍

This place always has that positive vibe that keeps Madison weird and... at the top of my list for cool cities and cool restaurants. The food is very eclectic and cool, the drinks are poppin. I've always had a good time at Nattspil, whether just for drinks, or for a full dinner experience. If you haven't ventured off the main square to visit, you're missing out.
