My favorite spot in Portage!

Pesto Alfredo add steak. Salty, creamy, crunchy. Incredible entree. Breads ticks were just alright tbh.

Salmon with coconut rice side. Salmon was moist and flavorful. Rice was pleasantly sweet and refreshing, asparagus was crunchy and seasoned.

Can't go wrong with dessert. It was hard to choose tho! Lemon berry marscapone and limited time Carmel apple crisp cheesecake. Apparently I took the last one and now theyre doing pumpkin. Sorry!

Found Neil's Wine and Bourbon House while on the way from Chicago to Eau Claire and needing a spot for dinner that wasn't fast food/bar food. This 10 mile detour couldn't have been better. Great patio and luckily the fall weather hadn't quite hit. Pleasant servers who helped navigate the dinner menu with their recommendations.

Now to the food, we had a pan seared salmon, the loaded mashed potatoes, French onion soup and tenderloin medallions with mushrooms and blue cheese. This was easily the best meal I've had in the last 6 months if not 2 years. We shared dishes to try everything and every bite was just loaded with flavor. I started with the steak and afterwards I was going to be sad about ordering the salmon, but the butter and cook and the salmon was just perfect.

I really can't give enough praise for this place it was a nice break on a long drive and I'd absolutely stop again. Also all that food, 3 beers and a glass of wine and the bill was $73. Maybe I'm just used to city prices but that blew me away!

I just sat down to treat myself with a steak and was not disappointed. I truly want to give this praise because I walked in off the street on a hunch, dressed in what could be considered my worst attire, and they treated me like any normal customer. I ordered a 16oz ribeye with roasted asparagus and I can say i was impressed. The steak was spot on rare and the asparagus was delicious. The wine i ordered was perfectly paired with my dinner. All that with the cozy atmosphere will definitely bring me back here. 5/5

Updated: Dinner there last night and the supper menu was great. Had a scampi house special and was very good. Daughter and son-in-law said their dishes were quite excellent as well. The deserts were fantastic! Price very reasonable for what we got. Will be back again.
Great place for comfortable get together for small groups. Lunch menu was good and the french onion soup was very good .
Noticed the bourbon selection was outstanding and the wins selections were very broad.
Prices were reasonable. We enjoyed our luncheon there very much and will return in the future.

The drinks were incredible! I had the blackberry jack lemonade and couldn’t even taste the alcohol—it was so smooth and refreshing. We started with a tomato and mozzarella salad, and the dressing was honestly the best I’ve ever had on that type of salad—so flavorful and fresh. For my main dish, I ordered the walleye special, which came out nearly a foot long and was hands down the best fish I’ve ever eaten—perfectly cooked and delicious.

The atmosphere was just as wonderful as the food. The outside area is cute, cozy, and so comfortable, with a wooden wrap-around deck that offers both shade and privacy. Absolutely loved everything about this place and can’t wait to come back!

Visited this place a couple times while visiting the area, and it was nice but we could hear the cook screaming in the kitchen, our food took forever,but atleast we had a very friendly server Deb she kept apologizing for the kitchen which we know is not her fault. Id visit again and ask for Deb but make sure we were not on a time allowance.

I don’t like to leave negative reviews but our experience at this restaurant warrants one. We walked in and immediately the woman was annoyed and rude. She told us to find a table but there were none clean. Then she told us she didn’t have time to bus the table. We said we would do it and she simply said no. This was the rudest person I have ever encountered at a restaurant. I’m sorry we drove all the from the Dells to try this place and left before we ever did.

A local gem! They have a great chef, excellent meals and affordable prices. We shared the tenderloin medallions and blackened salmon and both specials were better than any meals we've had recently in Madison or the Dells. The wine list has a good variety that pairs well with your meal.

Had the steak on 6 13 25.
Steak was fatty mashed potatoes were dry. Service was be on slow. They only had 8 menus in the whole place.
They have no idea how to make a old-fashioned.

Our group had such a great dinner here. All of the appetizers (roast beef sliders, crab cakes, stuffed mushrooms) were excellent, I’d come back just to eat them. But the entrees (ribeye, chicken Marsala, & the salmon special) were also delicious, great seasoning, presentation, and portions. Big thanks to Raquel at the bar for attentive service and whoever was cooking tonight, we cannot wait to come back.

We stopped in last night (Friday) on a whim for dinner for the two of us because we were kid free and I've heard this place is good, and 10/10 recommend for a couple or small group looking for a great meal definitely consider stopping.

We had no clue they were partaking in the Portage Wine Walk for Wicked when we got there, and even though they had an event going on, the owner was at the bar and saw us walk in and could tell we aren't with the event. He quickly found us a table and sat us, personally gave us the menu and treated us.

The wait staff were all very friendly. Our drinks were ordered (and delivered) in minutes. Our waitress explained the specials and menu and checked on us every 5 minutes or so.

We ordered the spinach and artichoke dip with crustini for appetizer and we're pleasantly presented with the perfect appi for two. There's were 8 fresh toasted baguette slices and a nice amount of dip.

I got the evening special of tenderloin medallions in a red wine reduction sauce with mushrooms over asparagus and quinoa. My tenderloins were perfectly medium rare and the flavor of the food was way more then expected in downtown portage.

My husband ordered the Ribeye with garlic mashed potatoes and asparagus and his steak was perfect for him, better then the steakhouses in the area honestly.

Not a wine drinker but I did get their maple Bacon old fashion to try and they have a even pour with good flavor on at least that cocktail.

Skipped dessert so can't speak for that, we were humbly satisfied with our food.

For the atmosphere you can tell this place was once a home or some sort, when you walk in there is a bar top on one side a decent size dining room the opposite. You walked out of Central Wisconsin and into NorCal Wine Country walking into here, it's a very artsy/bistro style restaurant. We found it to be quite romantic despite the strange event going on for the town.

Never been to Neil's and was looking forward to it. We arrived and it was very busy. I stood at the bar just wanting to get some drinks for the 3 of us and patiently wait outside on the deck for a waitress. I stood at the bar for 45 minutes and never got served! Other couples walked in, sat down, and got served. Needless to say we left and I won't be going back.

Our meals were extremely salty. It made us almost cough. Our portions were a bit on the small side and slightly overpriced for the amounts we got. Our waitress was also the bartender. The service and delivery of the food was slow. Maybe they were understaffed, like many areas businesses are. I guess they'll be under new ownership soon.

In Portage for a club event and found Neil’s Wind House in Google so we gave it a try. The drinks were perfect, the service was great, the owner Neil spent some time with us and was just an enjoyable evening. I told Neil we were hoping for a WOW effect with the food, and it was. Great job Neil!!!!

I stopped here a few weeks ago during the wine walk with a couple gal friends as it was recommended by another close friend. The food was good, our server was very kind, however the owner was drunk and made us feel very uncomfortable.

He made a point to touch my arm when passing by our table early on after our arrival. At the end of our meal, he left from behind the bar to stop at our table again. He crouched between me and a friend with his face very close to our chests and faces. My friend told him he was making us feel uncomfortable and he became agitated, clearly drunk. We told him again that he was in our personal space; and to please back off as he was making us feel very uncomfortable. He responded saying "Do you know who I am?! I'm the owner.” We repeated again that he was making us feel uncomfortable and he finally walked away. Ruined the experience and made us feel unsafe. Extra worrisome that this was during a wine walk and I can only assume more women made the stop more than any other typical night. I hope no one else was made to feel as uncomfortable as we were.

Very old house turned into a restaurant on one of the city's main streets. To open a restaurant serving high-quality food and wine in such a small city is pretty impressive. There aren't any other places like this in town. The owner has a nice niche! My wife and I watched it grow over the years into a wonderful business. We no longer live in the town, but when we commute there, we offen eat here. Charming and quaint with a few tables and a bar. You can sit outside on a very nice patio during the warmer months. They have several dining tables. The owner is nice. Stops by the table to convers for a minute or two, which is very rare in the restaurant business. We see him restocking and delivering food to the tables, which makes it a little more inviting. They had an older gentleman crooning out songs from the rat pack era. Which was cool! If you are hard of hearing, conversations with others in the restaurant are hard. I have hearing aids and I still struggle at times. Out on the deck, it's fine.

Wednesday the first time my friend and myself had been here and honestly I can't believe it took us so long to try this establishment out! The menubis fresh and innovative, really unlike any other in the area and the drinks gave a seal of approval to the name of this place! Midday Sangria, I vote YES! I definitely recommend the baked goat cheese, it is an appetizer but made for a great lunch item, which brings me to my next compliment. This place is vegetarian friendly! Thank you to Neil for coming out and greeting us, it made us feel appreciated as guests, which as both of us are former food service professional is a great thing to see. Susan is so personable. We will definitely be back soon and sending others towards this wonderful restaurant.

We enjoyed our dinner date at Neil's this evening. The food was fantastic. The broiled walleye was absolutely delicious, perfectly cooked. The marinated vegetables that accompanied our meal were incredible, with a delightful garlic dressing. My husband's steak and shrimp were absolutely tender and delicious. The restaurant wasn't packed, we had the room to ourselves because everyone else was enjoying the beautiful patio until the rain came in. Neil's is worth the trip. My husband and I stopped into neils winehouse Saturday fir a couple drinks and some delicious appetizers. I got the ahi tuna on a bed of greens and my husband got the always delicious crab cakes and a very fresh vegetable salad. We were so delited with our meal that we talked about it all the way back home. Now when I think of the ahi tuna I had my mouth just waters thinking about it. The atmosphere is so nice and calm. The waitress is very nice and atentative. And the cook is excellent. You can tell he takes his time with each meal and it shows. I can't hardly wait to go back again.
Give it a try. You won't be disappointed. And you won't walk away hungry either .

Terrible service twice in a row now at completely different times of day. Neither times were they busy. Drinks sat empty for forty five minutes before server asked if we wanted another. Oh and I hope you have a minimum of an hour and a half free to wait for a quesadilla. Neil's is a great place for get togethers with good friends and family, just a very relaxed atmosphere. Neil is also a great host and will do whatever he can to make your experience wonderful. Food is absolutely wonderful and the aesthetic is very much needed for the Portage area.

One of the first places we came when we moved to Portage and it will always be a go to!

Loved sitting outside. However with as close to the main road, the larger trucks passing made it hard to talk. Menu was great. Food very good. Funny, we didn’t even have the wine. Service was a little slow, we weren’t in a hurry anyway. We had a drink and meal and then dessert and coffee. Beautiful building

Food and wine was excellent. Only complaint was how slow the service was this evening. Owner came out to apologize though. We will come back again. Very nice place to sit with friends and family and relax with good wine. Nice to see Portage have a venue like this. I only hope the community continues to support this lovely spot.
