Update - the merge of La Cabana and Nick’s is good. The menu is big but most ingrients have multiple items to work with. I had the fajitas and they were very good. My wife had chicken enchiladas - good but she isn’t a dark meat fan. Maybe have an option? Hayden is an excellent server and the staff was quick to seat and serve. I’ll be going back now. Big portions also.
2017: Hasn't changed in 25 years is how it feels. Food was fair - good fried fish and broasted chicken but needs some updates. No need to go back.

My wife & I ordered the Fajita Quesadillas, hers was steak, mine was chicken. These things are huge, filled up with plenty of both meats! The steak is excellent, not chewy or shredded. Looks like they cut up a sirloin! The chicken was cooked tender! Two thumbs up, and we will be back! Definitely get what you pay for here!

The service was fast and friendly on Wednesday night at 6:00. Chips and salsa came right away and our meals soon after. Excellent taste and very generous portions, enough to take home for lunch tomorrow. Great place!

Every time we go, the food is always delicious and the staff is friendly and attentive. The portions are large which usually gives us lunch for the next day. Tonight we sat out on the patio. It was wonderful! My family is all over the place on what we like to eat, the varied menu options satisfy us all! I also really like the little kids cups with lids.

Their menu is huge, wayyyy too much food, after asking the waitress why they had such a large menu she said it was because they had merged 2 restaurants together. I joked with my girlfriend before we even order that when a restaurant has too much on their menu they can’t maintain the proper quality (my professional opinion as a kitchen nightmares enjoyer) but I said I would put that behind me and try to enjoy the food. So I decided to get the French Dip sandwich, the Au Jus sauce was not Au Jus, it was some greenish liquid with a large bay leaf in it, it also looked very separated like when you microwave chicken noodle soup, didn’t taste like Au Jus at all but whatever, overall it wasn’t all that good and I told my girlfriend I would give it a 3 star review, not bad but not great. HOWEVER less than an hour later my stomach start gurgling and I felt bad, I then started throwing up all of the food I ate, so like I said, when you have too large of a menu, you simply can’t expect to maintain the same level of quality. For those that have not seen the menu, they offer -
• Breakfast (served all day)
• Salad bar
• Mexican food
• Italian food
• American food
• Pies (you can turn ANY pie into a milkshake)
• Sandwich sides - Hash browns, American Fries, Cajun American Fries, Crinkle Cut Fries, Sweet Potato Fries, Taylor Tots, Spicy Wedges, Curly Fries, Mashed Potatoes & Gravy, Tossed Salad, Cottage Cheese, Potato Salad, or a Cup of Soup. And that JUST for the sandwiches, this does not include the extensive side menu items for all the other things you can order. All in all it was a mediocre experience followed by unsanitary meat that made me vomit.

I am a frequent customer. Pies are fresh every week.
I have noticed over the months that a lot more food is starting to be microwaved.
Lasagna is always cold in the center, but the plate is piping hot. I had to send it back twice to reheat.

We ordered this for delivery for lunch on the busy Memorial Day weekend and they had food for 7 to us in under 30 minutes. The food arrived fresh, warm, and delicious. Their meat, both the steak, pork, and chicken was marinated to perfection with authentic flavor. Nothing came dry or bland. Generous portions of side fixings, tons of chips and delicious salsa.

It's cheaper to go to the salad bar then to buy the ingredients. Not only that but they had a spectacular shaved Parmesan. Authentic and sharp that was like wow!!!. When you need a big salad. You just need it. Everything was great. Especially in this area where veggies and fruits are worth their weight in gold.

Huge menu: Mexican, Italian, pizzas, broasted chicken, burgers. The tacos and enchiladas we ,had were great- obviously make their own red sauce, almost a molé. Excellent carnitas, guac seemed house-made, but you never know. Can they put out all the food at this quality? I may never know, just passing through on the way to the UP. Super friendly service, appeared to be a community meeting spot as well- wear your plaid flannel and suspenders!

We enjoyed Nick's. They have a huge menu. They have an American section, Italian (Pizza, calzones, etc) and the Mexican section. They have some interesting combo type dishes mixed in. I had a Philly cheesesteak calzone. The prices were decent for the quality of the food. We really enjoyed all the choices. It makes pleasing everyone easier. We will probably return here if we are in the area.

They were very large. Two larges fed a party of seven. Crust was not my favorite, but overall flavor was great and sauce to topping ratio was good. Would recommend for a family and they have plenty of food options for the most picky of eaters.

Had lunch at Nick's La Cabana earlier this week, and loved that there are so many options to choose from! Me being a picky eater I had their combination Fajitas with steak, chicken and shrimp and it did not disappoint. My server was very nice and the food came out hot and fast. Will definitely be going there again soon!

Our three person family ate here, and between three meals and one appetizer, three of these four items were botched. The mozzarella sticks app arrived cold and had to be remade, the kids hotdog was microwaved and the bun was rock hard and not edible, the club sandwich had a ridiculous amount of onions, the turkey was off and had enough salt to gag a deer, the "spicy" wedges that came with the meal were not.
Add in what looks like three different restaurants menus being Frankensteinem together?

I want to emphasize again that the food quality was subpar regardless of what the owners of this establishment pitifully argue. The turkey was prepackaged as well as the ham on the club sandwich. The fact that they mention going to a fast food place is ironic because we would have paid less and gotten higher quality ingredients. It says an awful lot of a restaurant when they have the audacity to fight with an honest review of what was frankly disgusting food. Anyone is free to look at the other reviews I've written and know that I try and find something positive about any establishment we visit. This was appalling. The bitter response from the owners is appalling. The only thing more appalling was the stale bread they attempted to serve my child.
We paid 45.00 for that meal. Every penny was an insulting waste.

The chimichanga had a good flavor but was very spicy hot! My lips and tongue were hot. If you don’t like your food spicy hot, let them know if ordering this to not add the peco. The hot beef with mashed potatoes & gravy had a good flavor; however, I would rather have real mashed potatoes instead of instant. Overall, a good place to eat.

Foods quite a bit greasy but tastes good. It's obvious that not a lot of the ingredients are fresh but it's still decent food. Two stars for service though as servers aren't properly trained to wait on tables. The atmosphere is relaxing and friendly though the only interior complaint I could come up with is there are tears in the carpeting that someone could easily trip over. Besides that the experience was satisfactory enough and you'll definitely leave stuffed. I do recommend not eating prior to going though. The food portions are excessively large. Having two menus is also a bit tedious but overall a good experience. I'd eat there again

I had a dreadful experience at Nick’s Restaurant, largely due to the terrible service from BAILEY. The fajitas were burnt and unappetizing, and BAILEY's lack of professionalism only made things worse. They were slow, dismissive, and clearly uninterested in providing any form of decent service. This place is a disaster, and BAILEY's service was the worst part of it. I won’t be coming back, and I strongly recommend avoiding this restaurant.

Food was great. BIG portions. Nick’s is combined with the Mexican food place. It’s all one place. A MASSIVE selection between the two menus. Too many choices really. It made it hard to choose.
All day breakfast which was awesome. I got a breakfast skillet at 7PM, which was delicious and wonderful. Filling. The pancakes weren’t anything special. Just pancakes.

Stopped in for lunch on the day after 4th of July. It was busy but we got our food really quickly. There was a small goof-up on the order that was swiftly taken care of. THE FOOD WAS DELICIOUS! Portions are hefty and fairly priced. We will definitely go back!

We've been coming here for the last few years, just a good little diner, until their merge. We gave it a chance given the mixed reviews and.......I don't know. Came here on 7/5, first, not kid friendly. No crayons, no kids cups, just alot of kids. It was a bit busy, but it took 7 minutes for someone to come to our table, another 25 min wait for water?! Yes, I timed it after 15 minutes. We almost left. Another 10 minutes for the food, which is pretty average. Food was good as usual, except the mexican cheese now on the skillets. Our waiter was stretched so thin.....she only stopped by once to check on the food. Our water was empty more than half our visit, she never asked about refills or if we needed anything. She could have just asked us when she passed by. She was almost running, we could never catch her. We were so thirsty...... overall, we didn't have a good visit. I don't like that there were no drinks mentioned on the menu, and the la cabana workers looked so unhappy. I'm not happy about the change either, it's like a diner randomly decided to put up a few pieces of Mexican decor. In my opinion, you should pick 1 cuisine and be great at it. Not 3.....

I have been going to Nicks for 30 years. I’m not sure who thought it was a good idea to combine with a Mexican restaurant but wholly cow what a disaster. Two separate menus? We arrived at 6:20 on Friday on 6/27, totally confused on what the establishment even is now. Figured we’ll get the buffet since that is usually a fair deal. When we went up to the buffet almost ALL of the dinner items were gone, and what was left was so dried out and old you didn’t even want to try it. There were salad bar fixings available for the most part so we had that. There were many folks around the room complaining to the staff that the buffet was empty and that it looked like it had been ravished by a bunch of hyenas, it was terrible! We paid $40 including the tip for two salads. You should be embarrassed and ashamed of what you are providing the public. What is terrible is Nocks won’t be around much longer which is a shame, many good memories of this place.

worst liver and onions I've ever had. Cook should've thrown it away and started over but he didn't, he plated it up black side down, I mean black! I was offered another one, I don't do replacements from bad cooks, never trust a bad cook. The waitress was wonderful and was very disappointed at what she saw. First off Nick’s has combined with La Cabana, perhaps a big mistake. Our group of four ordered two appetizers. One was a three dip sampler with chips. It was delivered with two dips. The salsa was spicy but on the sweet marinara side. We could not get the server’s attention to inform him of the missing dip. Another server delivered the queso and chorizo dip without chips. She dropped it off so fast that we assumed it was the third dip. Closer observation determined that it was the queso and chorizo dip. When we finally got our server’s attention, he now notified us that the the queso for the first appetizer had to be thrown away because it was bad and they were making a new batch. It made us wonder if there was something wrong with the chorizo queso which was delivered before the regular queso dip. When the queso dip was delivered we found that the cheese wasn’t fully melted. It also took time to get our server’s attention to get the second set of chips that should have came with the second appetizer. The basket we received was much smaller and many of the chips were broken. We could have eaten more chips after having waited so long but now our food was arriving. We had fish tacos and a Chicago deep dish. The fish tacos were okay but they had some flavor that was overwhelming. The pizza looked great but was not heated through. The cheese in the center was not melted together and was cool. The sauce was too sweet for my taste and the Italian sausage was very plain. My wife asked for a pop refill and the server took her glass and never returned with the refill. We never got refills on our water and the server never asked how our meal was. We weren’t the only customers disappointed. The woman at the table adjacent to us said she couldn’t eat her meal and would never return. I personally think Nick’s jis trying to do to much with its merger with La Cabana and offering both menus.

Stopped in for lunch. Quick service. I had their soup and salad ayce, very good. Hubby had a chicken sandwich with fries. He enjoyed his as well. Clean, friendly and good food. We'll be back.

If I could give zero stars, I would. To start, I'm not picky about food, but RAW eggs are unacceptable when I specifically asked for over MEDIUM eggs. Despite bringing it to the waitress's attention and telling her the cooks didnt fully cook my eggs and i wanted them to be over medium she told them I wanted over hard eggs instead, my meal was delayed by 10-15 minutes due to their mistake, it literally took them that long to cook eggs..(was not busy at all) In addition, hearing the waitress say 'we are just wasting eggs' in the background was VERY UNPROFESSIONAL! I heard some other things as well bit overall wasn't a pleasant experience 🙄They were lucky we tipped them despite poor service.

We ordered the BBQ platter and seafood platter specials. Brisket was dried out and no smoke flavor to the smoked wings. Smothered in BBQ sauce was the only flavor on the platter. Coleslaw had too much mayo/ dressing. Everything was bland and disappointing. Pictures on Facebook page are nothing like you get. Wait staff was great.

100% scratch made menu, absolutely amazing 😍 food was delicious and the waitress was attentive. No one had any complaints or things they didn't like about their meals. Everyone was happy, fed, and ready to hit the road! Please please try their blackberry cheesecake and remember this post ❤️

We order a few seafood platters and a BBQ platter on a Saturday! I was expecting a few crab legs. It was an entire crab! My husband got a variety of BBQ meat. We had to take things home and they were delicious the next day! Service was great too! Can’t beat the price for what we got!

Breakfast was good. The hollandaise sauce was delicious and so was the sausage gravy. Service is slow, they are short staffed and it took an hour to get our food, but it was worth it.

Every employee was a lot of fun!! Really good service and the food was amazing with very big portions. My husband got eggs Benedict grilled cheese and I had broasted chicken. We have enough leftovers for another meal!! So yummy. Will go anytime we are in Spooner!!

Since the new ownership has taken over they are understaffed. The breakfast skillet it barely warm, so if you want a hot fresh breakfast, this is NOT the place to stop. McDonald's is a better option. And look at their response.. deflecting much? The new ownership ran Nick's into the ground. They have taken a great dining spot and tuned it into a place that McDonald's IS the better option.

This restaurant has a small diner feel. The food was good, though the dinner menu caters more to a classic home cooked meal; think meatloaf, hot beef, chicken(though broasted), BBQ ribs. The pies looked WONDERFUL! Service was lacking the waitress, who did not come back for drink refills or to check if we needed anything. We paid our tab at the counter after realizing we weren't getting one at the table.

Great little spot for breakfast. Took a minute or two to get seated then our waitress came over right away. Everything came out quickly and was fresh. The omelettes are definitely more scrambled egg mess. Portions were reasonable for the price.
