Came here in hopes that they would be streaming the eagles game. At first glance they weren’t but their manager made my dream come true. After working on it and so after app failing, it FINALLY WORKED. I love this location and appreciate the attention and time they took to make this happen the food is amazing per USUAL!! I assumed it was a change in the menu and didn’t think anything of it. At the end of our meal our server commented on how good the shake was and that she ate my “leftover shake”. Who sells a "Chicago Dog" that has NONE of the stuff that makes it a CHICAGO DOG?! Seriously, they serve hotdog on a sesame seed bun with a little relish stuff on the side. Not even close to a Chicago dog.

I was disappointed in general. Service was initially slow. There were only 2 of us, but it seemed like a large group ahead of us maybe put the server behind. (Other than that, there wasn't much going on in the restaurant) Seems like the host didn't tell the server he had a table either, though. We ordered waters and an app right away. Waters didn't come until the app came out (we were about to leave). Then, I had to go out of my way to ask for water refills. Also, we didn't get any silverware or condiment caddy when we were sat or when our app came, so I had to go track someone down to ask for those.

The food, well, the food was blah. The Chicago dog was one thing. Everything else was just kind of ok. My fries had zero salt on them. The other sandwiches we had seemed to be lacking seasoning.

Almost $70 for 2 sandwiches with upgraded sides and a crappy dog. Not worth it. What happened Nitty Gritty?

My gf and I both have over 20 years in the service industry. She even said we could have had a meal that was 2x as good and only half the price had we gone to Culver's.

I recently visited Nitty Gritty in Middleton and had a fantastic time! The vibe is lively and welcoming
The food was top-notch my burger was juicy and flavorful, and the cheese curds were crisp and perfectly golden. The menu has something for everyone, including gluten-free and vegetarian options, which was a nice bonus .
But the real standout was our server, Linn. He was upbeat, attentive, and genuinely friendly throughout the meal.
Highly recommend Nitty Gritty for a fun, laid-back meal with great food and service. And if Linn is working definitely ask for him.

The food was... Different. My friend got the Caesar salad and the dressing was nothing to write home about. It wasn't fresh and zesty. It was like a cheap off-brand of dressing. I got the turkey avocado bacon sandwich and the turkey was very over processed and almost to the color of ham with a very soft and almost slimy texture that did not pair well with the toasted multigrain bread. I got it with cheddar cheese instead of Swiss and the whole flavor and texture combination did not pair well. The seasoned waffle fries were great though. So were the pickles.
The nitty gritty is known for their birthday parties. But they play this birthday song that goes on and on and on... Forever. That was really annoying. Our server was awesome. Are drinks were always refilled. The food came fairly quickly. I really just expected better quality food for the price.

Most recently dinner and many post-Covid lunches before that. Food has gone way downhill. “Medium” burger is delivered medium well. Specific requests of what to include and what not to include on burger are ignored in kitchen and not checked by server. This has happened every one of the last (and I do mean “last”) four visits. At one recent visit, the server managed to deliver all three orders to the wrong person. Nit-picking the Nitty-Gritty? Absolutely, but from such nits is the experience made. Management is failing its training and supervision responsibility.

Good vibes and better food! Me and my partner have been there a few times and last time we casually went there on a rainy day for nachos, they were plenty for both of us and it was very good! 1st time here, the food and service were very good 👍 I received a free mug, soda and a mini sundae, and a card for 1 sundae month for a year. When we are back in the area, we will definitely be back.
My husband and I both had reuben sandwiches, he had french fries, and I had a side salad with raspberry vinegarette dressing, which was delicious.

I came here because I wanted to try their (award winning burger). I'm not impressed.

Atmosphere - As expected for a city bar during a state sports game.
Service - Slow even for during a game.
Food - 1) The coleslaw may be the best I've ever had and came in a large portion. 2) The cheese curds were good, but a very small portion. 3) The sauce that came with the cheese curds was great. 4) The Gritty Burger - I asked for no tomatoes, it came with tomatoes, they noticed before handing it to me and asked if I wanted to send it back, I said no. I asked for onions, it did not come with onions, they brought onions out on a plate. The bun that came on the burger was flavorful. The burger lacked any sort of flavor and was very dry, but was cooked to a medium to medium well as requested.

Taking into account for a sports game on TV inside a city bar, I understand the slow service, but $25.58 was to much for the quality of burger.
I will not order a burger from here again.

Dinner was great. Got the veggies and hummus, which came with celery, carrots, cucumber, broccoli, and pita and a cup of ranch. Very fresh, crunchy veggies and the hummus was good.

I can't remember the burger I got, but it had grass fed beef, fancy schmancy bacon, and the most incredible onion jam. I would sell my left arm for just a cup of that to take home with me (I should have asked, I bet they would have brought me some). The fries were really good!

Everyone at our table made some sort of customization to our burger/sandwich and everything came out *perfect*

We also asked our server, Anna (I think) to come back as late as she could before the kitchen closed to take our milkshake orders, and she brought them out in to-go cups so we could start them there and take them home with us.

Definitely a wonderful experience. If I ever have the chance to come back to Wisconsin I will be returning.

I ordered here for the second time, an impossible burger with waffle fries and a vegan milkshake, both that I have ordered previously and liked. Within 30 minutes of eating my meal at home (I ordered delivery), I was in the bathroom with diarrhea, and severe stomach pain. It's been 6 hours and I've been in bed dry heaving, nauseous, bloated and in and out of the bathroom all evening. I don't know what was wrong with the food, as I had been feeling normal all day, but this was clearly related.

One of the best places in the Madison are for really good tasty burgers, dripping with juicy goodness. I like that they ask how I would like my burger cooked. They've also got lots of options to jack up your burger even more (I like the fried egg.) Everyone, from the waitress up to the manager, was super friendly. It's git a fun family atmosphere. The visit was just ok. I would go again. They took my beverage order and then came back to tell me they were out. I was nice and ordered a different one. I noticed a larger person sitting near the booth I was in. I noticed the chair the person was sitting in was about to break. I brought it to my waitresses attention. She agreed when she saw the chair almost breaking apart. She thanked me, and off she went to let someone know. No one came back to check. Luckily, the large person made it out of the chair without injury and left. Someone cleaned the table off and never replaced the broken chair. Finally, another worker came by, and I pointed the chair out and said, "Please remove the chair from that table." He thanked me and changed out the chair. I felt that if I didn't say something, that chair would not have been removed from that table. The burger was good.

Every so often, a friend that doesn't really care about good food will have their birthday dinner at the Nitty Gritty. I always go in expecting to have an absolutely terrible meal, and yet, somehow, I still manage to leave feeling like my meal was worse than I was expecting. Arguably the worst sit-down restaurant in Madison. Food quality is about what you can get from a well run Burger King but, of course, far more expensive. Not recommended for people who like to eat good food.
