Well established diner with a great history for pie. I had the Sweedish style pancakes with lingonberry jam and whipped cream. Fantastic! My wife had a slice of lingonberry cream pie and said that was delicious and very filling. The waitress was very nice and returned often to check on us.

Clearly resting on their reputation of years ago. Pies not of the same quality and food has gone from fabulous to nondescript. Building needs updating as well. Disappointed and probably not coming back.

We just left today, who ever the staff is on needs serious improvement. Sat there for an hour after being seated. Took my toddler to the bathroom 2x making eye contact with staff and mentioning we haven't been served yet. No one came to even ask our drink order. We started out the only people in our section and 2 other tables came in and got orders and served food. We had a 2yr old with asking for food trying to be patient. We were very noticeable made eye contact multiple times, menus very visible. We ended up walking out because no one ever came to get our order. Horrible service !! If you don't know go to the table and check and come right away after the customer mentions not getting service. Use to love this place but sadly this is not the first time we've been disappointed.

Old school restaurant know for their hot beef/turkey sandwiches with mashed potatoes and gravy. Waited a few minutes to get seated. Food was okay, could have been warmer. Had pie for dessert, wasn't as good as it's been in the past.

We been to this restaurant years ago, it was good then and it's good now! The Pies are still the best! Food was good, took awhile for our food to come. But, it's understandable since it was a Saturday, they are always busy even during the week days. The small gift shop area had some cute items, purchased several for Christmas gifts. Couldn't leave without a Loaf of their Cranberry Rice Bread! It's the BEST! Also, took home a small Blueberry Crumb Pie, slice of Pumpkin Cheese Cake Pie, and Chocolate Chip Cookies. Next time I want to try one of their Lefsa Wraps, sound delicious! And the Swedish Pancakes! Be prepared for some noise, lots of people in a smaller place, and wait time to pay your bill. It's a busy place, but that just says how good their food and Bakery is!!

The pies are incredible!
The grilled “chicken” wrap in lefse was terrible- the chicken was not fresh meat, rather processed chicken that was rubbery and even had air bubbles in it from when it was injected into the mold…. No bueno!!
However, the cranberry chicken almond sandwich was great as was the turkey roast with mash potatoes - that comfort food was reminiscent of a meal at my grandmas kitchen!
One waitress was trying to handle everybody and it was busy.

Horrible experience! We stopped for lunch. It was packed. They were short staffed as someone called in. They did the best they could, but the wait to be seated was long. That was understandable. When we placed our order, it was a brief wait and my friend's food came and the waitress said they were out of what I ordered. By the time I got the menu again, my friend was half done eating. I decided not to have anything because he would be done before I got mine and we had already spent a long time there. Why did she not come out right away with a menu and tell me this? She snapped at me when I asked why the food and milk were still on the bill. When we went to pay, we explained the situation to someone who was not the waitress. She apologized, made an excuse, said she would fix the bill, offered me a piece of pie which I declined and then charged me for the milk I never got. This will not be on our list of things to do in the future.

Edited to add 2 years later - We gave the Osseo Norske Nook another go Summer 2025 and it was MUCH improved, back to the baseline we loved. The service was good, the menu complete, and the food delicious. The only gap from back in the day was eating outside required ordering to go; there was no outdoor table service. Yay!
2023 - I like to give restaurants the benefit of the doubt and not judge a place on a single bad experience. Everybody deserves a bad day. Unfortunately, this Norske Nook location has been going downhill for several years and it breaks our heart. For years, the Osseo Norske Nook was a major destination for us; we would do everything possible to get by while on the road in the area a few times each Summer. However, the past few years the restaurant has been off - understaffed, long waits, a patio that is almost never open anymore, limited menu, and so forth. I feel like maybe they simply have not recovered from service changes made during the pandemic, and that they just don't care. In our experience and for years, this location consistently was much more warm and welcoming with reliable outdoor dining (which is very helpful when we are on the road traveling with our pet in tow). On this visit, the outdoor dining was closed again, they appeared understaffed, and when we asked about just getting takeout we were only offered a few items from the menu. When I tried to clarify what exactly was available, they were frankly, shockingly, and unapologetically unkind to me. It’s too bad, we used to love coming here, but we have marked it off our travel list. Thankfully the location at Rice Lake has been consistently good, kind, and has a full menu.

Kinda disappointing, it’s been years since I ate at a Norske Nook, in Rice Lake WI. However this trip to the Osseo restaurant was not nearly as memorable. My omelette, ham and cheese, was fairly tasteless not much flavor at all, the hash browns were good and crunchy, like I like them, and the jam for the toast was good. I had a piece of raspberry cream cheese pie to go, and I’d swear that the whipped topping was basically “cool whip”. I can’t imagine an award winning blue ribbon pie would have Cool Whip on it. They did have a sign stating that they were short staffed, but it was really disappointing to wait for a table, watch them walk past, not take a drink request, or clean off tables that were dirty prior to me being seated. I don’t mind waiting, if things are being done appropriately, as such I ordered breakfast at about 2:15 pm and got 1 cup of coffee and was never asked if I needed or wanted a refill. I’ve been at restaurants that have been in a similar situation and have had much better service and food.

We drove from Saint Louis, and were told this is the best pie.
First, we were glared at upon entering. Sat down, and asked for Strawberry Rhubarb pie. The waitress said they were all out, and whatever was in the cooler, is what was available. So, we had to go look in the cooler, and get the pies ourselves!
A few minutes later, I saw a different waitress take a slice of the Strawberry Rhubarb pie, to the table behind us.
The worse service ever!

This place has been one of our top "go to" places every time we go anywhere near Osseo. We will drive out of our way to eat here. The food is all homemade and they have the best pie we have ever eaten in our lives! The se vice is always TOP NOTCH. We love this place. Looking at all the different license plates on cars parked around their restaurant and seeing the many different states they come from tells us others love this place too!!!

This restaurant was recommended by my group when I was planning a road trip around Wisconsin. I wasn't disappointed. We really wanted a Reuben sandwich. Delicious food with Norwegian specialties on the menu! Server was very pleasant but did have to request some things twice and silverware. The checkout at the register was exceptionally slow - we probably waited standing in line for 15 minutes just to leave. Pies were delightful! Hungry on I-94? The Norske Nook should be your stop for a delicious Norwegian style food and a sweet treat. I had the French toast and lefse omelette - a stellar breakfast. Portions are more than enough and everything is homemade.
The real reason to stop is the pie. We tried the chocolate peanut butter, rhubarb crunch, pecan, and snickers. There is no wrong choice. A pro tip is if you’re going at a busy time or later in the day, order your pie flavors first before they are gone!

We’ve been wanting to stop here for years and finally did. So sad that it was so disappointing. The Norwegian pancakes were way too thick. The sourdough French toast had no flavour so was obviously not real sourdough. The smothered Denver omelet lefse wrap was totally from packages of things…….. not real lefse made with butter. Tasted like it was probably boxed potato flakes with oil. The sauce with definitely canned and the mushrooms were from a jar hence slimy. It seemed like nothing was actually MADE there, but just all processed! Such a bummer.

I got hashbrowns with cheese, ham, cranberry toast, and French toast. First off their cranberry toast and, I believe, their for berry jam was amazing. The French toast was just right. The hashbrowns were good as well. One of my friends got eggs and hash, and the eggs had an incredible flavor.

Starting to look run down. Food was mediocre. However service was outstanding. Becky seems to have a RBF but was very kind to the kiddos. She noticed the kids didn’t like what they got so she offered something else. What a kind and generous thing to do. The blueberry jam on my pancakes seemed fresh as well.
Their pie has gone up in price, however, is still outstanding.

The pies are fantastic, but don't let them overshadow the food. I had the cornedbeef hash and eggs, and it was quite good. It was busy, but service was fast.

The food as always was wonderful. I appreciate laid back, but service was ridiculously slow. It took us at least 20 minutes to get our order taken, and it wasn't even all that busy in the restaurant section. The waitress appeared to be intentionally dawdling in spite of the fact that we were looking for her and clearly ready to order. What should have been a 30-40 minute stop for coffee and a piece of pie took us over an hour. They brag about not being fast food, but never again.

Come for the pie and stay for the food. I had the delicious smoked sausage, eggs and hashbrowns in a lefsa wrap covered with a hollandaise sauce. It is a new item and I would recommend it. Then we bought a whole pie to go so we could enjoy that for days to come.

We stopped in today for 2 slices to go. The checkout gal sold us on 3 and we hit the road. I have to give this place a 5 star rating for the quality of the pie and coziness of the establishment.

The pies and bread to buy at the delivery are amazing. When you buy a pie through, there is a $6 fee for the tin but you can get the deposit back if you return it.

Well came here for the pie. Heard Sam Shepherd used to eat pie here. And now I know why. Probably the best pie in the state. And reasonable. You're not going to get some experimental pie project. Nope. Just a really really SOLID slice of pie. You like pie? This is your mecca.
