Love there lefse wrap with egg, sausage and hash browns. But their raspberry cream cheese pie is awesome

Our party was disappointed by the much smaller slices of pie we purchased. The price increase, decreased the size of the slices. Example, Chocolate Moouse used to be so big it wouldn't allow the to lid to totally close. We were just disappointed.

The wait for the order is long. The quality isn't the same. The sandwich was overbaked in butter. We took two pies home: a pumpkin pie and an apple pie, both so sweet they were inedible. The one was the worst: few apples, a whole layer of sugar sprinkled on top. The pie crust was nonexistent; it was soggy. It has nothing in common with European baked goods.

This is our go-to restaurant in Rice Lake. We eat here EVERY time we come to town because we know the food is going to be great! The breakfast lefsa wrap with Hollandaise is sooo good. And of course, we always leave with some slices of their top-notch pies. Thank you Norske Nook for being amazing.

Do yourself a favor, drench your food in hollandaise sauce. Doesn't matter what you get, smother that shit.
Add a section in your menu for smothered dishes, specifically for this please.

We were looking forward to stopping here on our way back from Duluth. Very disappointed. I had a chef salad that looked like a side salad, and the lettuce was white with brown edges. My husband had pancakes and they were flavorless.

Lovely family, ethnic restaurant whose menu features both wonderful Norwegian fare as well as your typical American fare... all very delucious with a homemade touch to it. The pies, though, are what bring this wonderful place into national noteriety. Numerous times have they won national pie competitions for best pies in the US, recently, 4th overall in the nation. The hollandaise smothered lefse wrap was a delight, and their pancakes were ginormous and very tasty. Our grandkids loved the place as well.

Needs a remodel cheesy tables and chairs the pie display in dinning room was loud and annoying. The food was good but the pir to me was a disappointment I remember it being better. I order a Strawberry rhubarb to go but when I ate it I think it was just rhubarb. I could find any strawberry or flavor of strawberry. I will probably not return unless no other options are available.

I kept asking people what this restaurant is like, and I got the same answer every time: diner food, but Norwegian. I had no idea what that meant, but I get it now. It's dinner food, but Norwegian!
More precisely, it's a lot of house made breakfast and lunch entrees with cured meats, fried fish, and lingonberry preserves, Plus absolutely the BEST homemade pies. They have literally over 30 pies to choose from and every one I've tried has been amazing. The crust is flaky yet sturdy and the filling generous. The corned beef is pickled in house and if you eat red meat you simply have to try it, either as a breakfast hash or a Reuben sandwich.
The decor is fantastic, with hand painted rosemåling on all the accents, and the food is simply lethally good. Portions are generous and prices are honestly probably lower than they should be.
If you're just passing through the area, make this your lunch stop. If you live or commute through regularly, ask about their whole pies and returnable pie tins.

First time visiting Norske Nook in Rice Lake today and I won't be back. Our server (Laurie) literally rolled her eyes and threw her hands up when our table asked for 2 slices of pie to take home. The same server and the manager yelled at the young hostess to the point of making her cry. The hostess was pleasant and sincere when she sat our table and helped retrieve the cookies we wanted to take home. Overall, I was shocked by the behavior of these employees and can't imagine why someone would to spend their money at an establishment who is rude to their customers (maybe it was only our table?)AND young employee.

Not the place it used to be.
I used to come here frequently. Loved the food and service.
Menu has been cut back a lot. My favorite items were missing.
We had a business meeting with several persons and requested a larger table in the more private back room and were refused. Too busy to serve the back room we were told. No more than 4 or 5 tables were occupied the whole time we were there. Waitress did a good job and that was the main positive point.

I hadn't been in Rice Lake for many years. This place was not here when I was in town last. After attending some family affairs, we grew hungry and chose Norske Nook.
The Nordic style was whimsically appealing. Giving a sense of nostalgia for me cause my aunt was like overly boastful for her Norwegian heritage. From the wood shoes to the lutifisk and freaky little poems spoken in a language that sounds very similar to that chef guy from the Muppets.
I ordered the smoked sausage lefsa wrap, and she had the meat ball with potato. The lefsa was actually really spot on, the Hollandaise was good, and i enjoyed the sausage. The only miss on my meal would be the lack of sweet butter either on my lefsa or offered on the side.
The pie is off the hook! We had a piece of apple cranberry and peach. Hope to try more someday.
The meal was good; it wasnt knock my socks off good. However, it was good. The price was also very budget friendly. I will stop by again if I am every here again.

We were passing through with another couple on our way to Duluth and I typically stop in Rice Lake for fuel. This time it was lunch time and we were told to try the Norske Nook.
The location was easy to get to and parking was plentiful. We were seated at a table for 4 by a pleasant enough server. She was not overly friendly until we engaged her in conversation but she was not rude either. Likely just being professional while being busy.
Because we knew we would be eating well for dinner in Duluth, we opted for 2 salads and 2 chicken strip baskets. The salads had quite large chunks of red onions and way too many that the taste of onion would likely create heartburn and lovely aftertaste if eaten. The chicken strips (calling them strips seems fraudulent) looked and tasted like process chicken formed into shapes that I crudely remarked looked similar to poo. The breading was uniquely flavored, not in a good way, and very firm. I suspect only unsuspecting children that will eat anything and are mostly interested in the fries are the only ones that are served this menu item and ordered by their parents that have no idea they taste like... well, not like chicken strips should . Avoid this menu item. Definitely not worth $12.30.
Since the meals were disappointing and the chicken strips left us unfulfilled and needing something to please our bellies and our pallet, we decided to try some pie as the placemat showed A LOT of Blue Ribbon pies.
We ordered 2 slices of the Blueberry Crumble which we shared. While the pie was good, it was served at what felt like a bit cooler than room temperature. More pies would probably be sold if they were warmed allowing the fragrance and flavor to come to life. And offering a nice scoop of vanilla ice cream to accompany the pie would be the bomb. But alas, we had no such luck.
Our return trip through Rice Lake included a stop at Kwik Trip for fuel and some sarcastic responses about the Norske Nook. Sorry, but it is not worth the stop unless you are only looking for sustenance or pie - to take home and warm up and served with ice cream.

My boyfriend and I had been wanting to try the food here for a while. We finally got a chance to get up there today for lunch and we were not disappointed. The place was empty as it was 2 pm, but we were hoping it wasn't busy anyways. The host girl seemed a little annoyed while seating us, but we brushed it off as our server was a nice older lady. She definitely was Midwest friendly and was great at making small talk, as well as helping us choose some pie to bring home for later!
My boyfriend got country fried steak, hashbrowns, eggs, and toast. He loved it, and I tried some and agreed. I got the Frisco Melt Burger with fries and both were super good as well. Everything was fresh and hot too, so we had a good time enjoying our meal.
On our way out we bought some blueberry crumble topped pie; very delicious! We also got a sour cream sugar cookie and a snickers cookie which were also both amazing. And some really lovely Rosettes that were perfectly made.
Overall we really enjoyed all the food we tried and the friendly service; we'll definitely be back again!

When we came in the door, there was a chalkboard that said the daily special like some French toast stuff with some fresh strawberries. I don’t know nine dollars and then three more dollars for more strawberries. I told the waitress I wanted the special I got two pieces of French toast and two sausage links that was a different special they had going on for the day, my husband ordered the ham on the side of his pancakes. It was disgusting. It was $5.75 for one piece of ham that was like spam gross. When you come in, they show you all these wonderful homemade breads and pies and cookies but the French toast was made out of some bread from Aldi‘s. I don’t know icky

Stopped in while traveling, there was a steady flow of customers... The host was friendly, we were seated within 5 minutes. We each spent about $15, including the tip. Very satisfied with the quantity and quality of the food. I had the Lefse omelet (very good).
Working in the service industry is demanding and requires a high level of intelligence and conscientiousness - our culture is missing that at the moment which is reflected in the struggle to find quality staff and run at full capacity... Kudos to the "Norske Nook" for maintaining quality even while under staffed

Host was fairly rude, however we were meeting family, so we put up with it, otherwise we would have left. Our waitress was phenomenal, funny & friendly. The food was ok, kind of expensive for what you get. The pies were delicious though! As we were leaving, we decided to take a group picture outside. As one family member was taking the picture (& not in it) one of the employees who was on break, ran over and offered to take our picture for us --- even though she was on break! The service here was outstanding! (Aside from the host). Would have given more stars, but the quantity versus price & rude host lowered my rating.

The idea of sour cream in pies freaked me out a bit at first, but I am so glad I tried one as they will now be my go to. Their omelettes are also wonderful (pictured is their veggie omelette). We stopped in at 3 on Monday for a late lunch. We were able to be seated right away. I had the cranberry chicken salad on grilled cranberry wild rice bread. My husband had the BLT. Both were perfectly done. Our waitress was friendly, prompt and helpful. Of course we had to have pie. I chose my favorite coconut cream and my husband had blueberry. The coconut cream was loaded with cream in a nice thick custard. The flaky slightly salty crust balanced it perfectly. I have no idea what the blueberry pie tasted like, it was gone before you know it! But my husband said it was good but not as good as mine :-). The only negative is that we had tried to stop by a few days earlier and the wait was over a forty minutes because they were short staffed. It is truly a challenging time for restaurants.
