A beautiful French spot with a charming atmosphere and excellent service. The selection is wide, and the pastries and desserts are truly amazing. I highly recommend the Tartine du Saumon – it was exquisite!
The chicken and mushroom crepe didn’t impress me much, but the chocolate and raisin pudding (if I’m not mistaken) was absolutely outstanding – one of the highlights of our visit.
The only real disappointment was my cappuccino – it was far too bitter and undrinkable, which was unfortunate. Also, I’d like to point out that the menu and prices on the website are not up to date.
Still, this place is wonderful overall, with a great menu and desserts worth coming back for. I’m already planning to return and try the French onion soup!

Monday August 2025: Whenever I come to NSB, the staff is always so friendly and welcoming. Today for lunch I had a tuna sandwich on miche with a side salad and a cup of the tomato soup. The miche (sourdough bread) was fantastic!! It was toasted and buttered and the tuna salad was fresh and delicious. The tomato soup was excellent! Great flavor and creaminess. 5/5!

This is great French cafe! Ample seating and exceptionally nice and accommodating staff. Very reasonably priced too for French cuisine. The food was fantastic, particularly their bread selection. Parking can be an issue, though. Overall, my experience here was wonderful. Not only will I go back but I also highly recommend!

My favorite bakery in the area! Having lived in France, the croissants and pain au chocolat definitely have that buttery, flaky nuance that’s required of a real viennoiserie.
However, I was a bit disappointed by their kouign-amann. I felt they missed that extra-buttery, goey, caramelized nature of the Brittany speciality.

I always have a wonderful experience at North Shore Boulangerie, and much of that is thanks to the outstanding service from their Café Attendants. They are incredibly personable—greeting everyone with genuine warmth—and keep things moving quickly without ever making the experience feel rushed.
I especially enjoy my interactions with Megan. Her positive energy consistently elevates my visits and adds to the bakery’s already cozy and inviting atmosphere.
Service like this keeps me coming back. Highly recommend!

**I've only had pastries here, and not the food, so that's all I'm reflecting.
I've been here many times before (pre-covid), and the decor is so pretty. It's great for some coffee with your girlfriends, or for a date with your lover, though some guys may find it too French? but I haven't been here since covid and I'm not sure why I never wrote a review for the place. Their pastries are truly delicious.
About 2 weeks ago, a friend made us a care package with about every pastry they had, and I really liked the plain beignets.
Beignets:
The raspberry filled I didn't like, but that's a personal preference - I just don't like fruit jelly in my pastries. any kind. The hazelnut was good, but the plain tasted better. Somehow, the wasn't the same thing with just a hazelnut filling added, but more like two different kinds of pastries altogether. This is also true of their croissants.
Croissants:
The plain one is flakier and butteri-er. Even shaped differently. chocolate croissant is shaped more like a rectangular donut. I can't remember what the almond croissant looked like? Bad memory. But one thing I know is that I'm never a big fan of croissants that are rectangular. I like the looking like crescent moons.
Macarons:
we got a bunch of different flavors and I liked some more than others, but I can't remember what they all were. You must have these when they are fresh. Do not let them sit for a day. Even a day later they just don't have the same chewyness level. If you're going to do that, get the frozen ones at Trader Joe's. Otherwise, enjoy these right on the spot!
Bombe du nord:
Looks beautiful, a chocolate dome with gold flakes. Kinda like a chocolate mousse, very, very rich, but oh so satisfying. I can only eat a quarter piece at a time, it's that rich.
Then there was this long rectangular pastry/dessert that I don't know the name of. It had some gummies fruit layers, some cake laters, some cream layers.? I don't know what it was, but it was so good. I didn't see it the next time we visited. And I don't know why I didn't take pictures of this. It was so goooooood.....
So Saturday morning, we picked up 2 plain beignets and and 2 macarons.
Macarons:
chocolate - it was very full of chocolate flavor. like, infused. But I didn't like it too much. I could just eat chocolate mousse or something. Oh, I don't know when these were made, but the chocolate one was definitely made before the strawberry one, maybe even a day ahead. Not as soft and chewy, but rather harder and crumbly.
strawberry - ok, so I say strawberry, but it may have been another flavor. I can't tell what it was. all I remember is that this one was a piece of the moon. So good. There was just enough hint of fruitiness, chewy amazingness, and even some cream filling surrounding it that just brought everything together. I was sad I only got one.

First time here. Came with a friend for a hot beverage and pastry. It's a medium size shop, there are two seating areas that have plenty of natural light from the large windows. You order at the counter where you can also see all the pastry items.
We ordered a coffee latte and a London Fog Tea Latte. Also ordered the Monkey Bread and Spinach Quiche. Everything was made just right (little lavender, little vanilla, extra foam), and the food was the right temps. The Monkey Bread was a generous portion, and not overglazed.
There are plenty of places to sit, in either of the two rooms. Most people were having quiet conversations, so the noise level was good.
The service was friendly, and seemed genuinely warm. Lots of smiles from the several staff members.
This is a place that I would not hesitate to come back to.

Wonderful place. The staff was super nice and friendly. Service was quick. Food was excellent and well priced, especially for the quality. It legitimately felt like walking into any of the bakeries in Paris again. The online menu gives you a basic idea however it's not necessarily 100% accurate on what's available or prices. But that shouldn't be unexpected with a bakery. Wish it was a little closer for me personally but will definitely be back again.

Love this neighborhood gem of a bakery/cafe! Truly authentic French bakery with croissants, macarons, baguettes, opera torte, fruit tarts, etc. Great brunch/lunch menu of salads, French onion soup, quiche, crepes, benedicts, sandwiches. Coffee and tea are French as well. Friendly staff.
P.S. If you're a teacher, it's a great place to grade papers!

I visited with friends and had a decent meal, but the experience soured when a younger waiter kept giving us dirty looks. After we paid, an older waiter with white hair asked us to leave because someone had been waiting for a table for about a minute. This was confusing, since we had been seated for a shorter time than the table behind us. I wouldn’t have minded if they’d asked them to leave first, but it felt unfair and unnecessary. On top of that, paying $17 for a tuna sandwich felt overpriced. Overall, I felt unwelcome and won’t be returning.

A lovely place for lunch or brunch with the atmosphere of a true European cafe. Went in today and the service was terrible. Was greeted by a rude employee who was trying to rush our order since we weren’t ordering lunch. Although we were ordering items and planning to stay and enjoy them they wouldn’t let us sit where there was more seating although there were four of us. We ended up just leaving and finding a new spot to go. I wouldn’t recommend this place.

Espresso 8.4/10
Ice Vanilla Latté 9.0/10
Muscles 9.2/10
French toast 8.8/10
One of the best brunch/breakfast places in the Milwaukee area.
The muscles were perfectly cooked and drowned in a tomatoes based sauce that I would have drank straight out of a trough if they had served it in such a way. And the bread that was served with it, a beautiful sponge center to soak up all the juicy goodness with a crunchy crust that balanced the texture without destroying the roof of your mouth. Honesty top three muscles I've ever eaten and I've had them in Michelin star restaurants in France.
The French toast was great and not drowned in high fructose corn syrup, thank the heavens. It was instead served with a generous drizzle of their in house made raspberry spread. The light sweetness of the berries and rich creaminess of the whipped cream paired perfectly with the franch toast.
The secret is out, so if you plan to come on a Sunday or Saturday for brunch, book a reservation.
The owner and Master Baker has a PhD in Yeast biology and studied in France, and buddy does it show in the breads and pastries

I love sharing reviews of great food places and this place gave me great pleasure! Met a friend there for lunch and had their special of the day - a pecan crusted walleye that was melt in your mouth delicious with mashed potatoes and green beans. Big lunch, I know, but then I was full for the rest of the day! A perfect little vanilla macaron followed… also a slice of heaven - just chewy enough and very fresh. I highly recommend this little gem of a place and am looking forward to making a return trip. The service was impeccable.

I thoroughly enjoyed the small, onsite cafe. The food was delicious. Every bite was better than the next. My friend and I shared to entrées: the quiche Lorraine plus the chicken and mushroom crèpe. The quiche was sooooo good, I wanted more. Also, our server was amazing! He was pleasant, attentive, knowledgeable, and efficient. I wanted to sit down and just have a chat with him. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 was because I'm looking for a better value. The prices were a tad high for the small amout of food you get. I easily could have eaten more without filling up. Overall, I'd definitely go back more often if I wasn't on a budget.

This is my first visit and they were awesome! The brie with caramelized onions made the already delicious baguette even better. And the special of the day (soon to be a regular menu item) was bacon and avocado with a upscale Green Goddess dressing on grilled three cheese bread was off the charts amazing.

NSB is a true gem. We live within walking distance and always take out-of-town guests here for the best lunch service and most delicious breakfast croissants. Staff is always so pleasant and accommodating. We are lucky to have such a unique and European style restaurant in our vicinity!

Got the smoked salmon Benedict and it was great. Eggs were perfect. Plate size is just right. Price is great too. Will keep this in mind with Blue's egg closed

Hard working and friendly employees. Food is good. Omelette is actually like a quiche consistency without crust. Very clean restaurant.

One of my favorite bakeries in Milwaukee. They have delicious and fresh croissants as well as other bakery. They are located in a wonderful central location in Shorewood.

The best pastry in the Milwaukee Metro area--my go to for dinner party desserts when I don't feel like baking. We also love their baguettes and lunch menu. Friendly customer service and cozy atmosphere.

Shorewood is so lucky to have this gem. Nothing like it in Milwaukee. Food is great, bread is great, and the people are so nice. One of the best places in all of Milwaukee.
