I have dined and carried out with North Star bistro for a number of years. The food preparation has declined and also the quality.i always order the almond crusted whitefish. Today, I could not eat the whole order. Previously flavored basmati rice was served, now it is white rice, the fish was not well prepared and the spinach was not sautéed well. Very disappointing. Dined at this restaurant on a weekday afternoon. Walked in to a fairly empty restaurant and waited awhile to be recognized. Was finally seated and handed menus. We waited an inordinately long time for a waitress to come by and take out order. We ordered the fried eggplant and zucchini appetizer. When it finally arrived, it was difficult to tell the difference between the eggplant and the zucchini as they both tasted the same. Of the three sauces that came with it, only the marinara was acceptable, the horseradish cream was very bland and the tarragon aioli did not compliment either the eggplant or the zucchini. I ordered the Hooks Melt cheeseburger. This burger was topped with four year cheddar cheese, mushrooms, caramelized onions, and a black pepper aioli. Unfortunately, none of these flavors could compete with the dirty, burned, grill flavor of the hamburger patty. This burger had one flavor note and all of the toppings were overwhelmed by the poor cooking of the patty. Lazy, inattentive service, bland food, and a dirty grill does not seem like a winning restaurant strategy to lure in repeat customers.

We held a wedding shower in their private space and I have to say it was a great experience. The staff was more than helpful and did a great job of keeping the event flowing. They worked with us on the menu and setup of the room and were very accommodating. The food was fabulous and everyone was satisfied. I've been here a couple of times now for dinner. I've been very pleased with the service, and the menu offers a sophisticated selection of food in a relaxed unpretentious elegant environment.
It's a great place to have a dinner date or a place where you want to have some conversation. It's all around a nice place to have on my list when I'm trying to think of somewhere for a very good meal and not have the stereo or loud conversation ruining the atmosphere.

We love going to Northstar bistro. It’s been our Go to for a special occasions-birthdays, etc.With great food ,service and lovely setting it’s always an elevated dine in for a lunch .
Today we were really disappointed and both commented on how salty the French onion soup . Usually excellent this was Lacking the wow factor . There wasNo melting cheese over the top. Brewed tea tasted old returned to waitress. Rolls never Disappoint that was the best thing about the meal .
Our Poke bowls were flat, no Crispiness to the lettuce And blah salad dressing
chicken lacked any flavor could’ve been seared and seasoned. Ended up taking most of the salad home, dressed it up with my own balsamic olive oil and evoo Plusother greens. Worst meal to date at our favorite luncheon stop!

Made reservations for my wife and our 7th year anniversary of being together. We love seafood so we decided to give this place a go. Food was great, service was pretty good as there's nothing bad or super extraordinarily great to tell about, and the atmosphere was simple and cozy around 7-8pm on a Friday evening. We ordered the scallop risotto special, fettucini shrimp alfredo, crab cakes, fried mushrooms, 2 purple haze drinks w/ gin, and 1 apple cobbler w/ ice cream as desert. I completely forgot I needed to write review. Probably because we went the week before Thanksgiving and my appetite soon shifted to Mom's turkey and all the fixins.

The atmosphere at North Start is pleasant and warm. None of that awful, ultra-modern, exposed ceiling garbage that is both ugly and allows for far too much noise to travel freely. I like the varied dining areas as well versus a single large room.

Service was excellent. Great timing between courses. Very friendly and helpful server. As I said it's been a few weeks so even if I DID remember to GET her name, it no longer resides within my brain. She was just lovely though.

The food was just delicious. I don't remember what everyone else ordered, but I still drool over the pictures of mine. I started with a cup of Creamy Mushroom Soup and then had the Beef Short Rib for my entree. It was all so tasty with a beautiful presentation. The soup came with a crostini which dipped real nice. The bread was like a rosemary ciabatta. Very hearty, very tasty, and paired well with the beef and mashed potatoes. I took an order home it's so good. I enjoyed my dinner so much that I would go back and have the exact same thing.

Went for dinner to celebrate a birthday. Our server was fabulous, drinks were good and we all enjoyed our meals. The chicken and mushroom risotto was delicious and beautifully presented. My friend had the bourbon glazed salmon and was delighted that the glaze was light and flavorful, not thick and syrupy, as is often the case. I'm only giving 4 stars for service because of the hostess. Although we had requested a non-drafty table when we made the reservation, she asked if we were ok with a table right near the door - probably the draftiest table in the place! When we told her that it was not, in fact, an acceptable table, her displeasure was obvious. If looks could kill we would all have perished right then and there. Fortunately, our awesome server made up for it.

My husband and I have been here a number of times. As usual, the food was delicious. It is nice, though, that I hear a change is coming to the menu soon as it is a little boring. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the Chicken and Mushroom Risotto, but it would be nice to have some different alternatives, especially for desserts, if nothing else. The 4 desserts offered haven't changed since we discovered the restaurant a long time ago. Frankly, they aren't really impressive and definitely need a freshen up (when you live 10 minutes from The Elegant Farmer, their cobbler isn't even an option, and my husband makes a creme brûlée that is delicious). Ok, enough about food. It is delicious and you won't be let down. Service, on the other hand, could use a "warm-up". When making the reservations, my husband clearly informed them it was for our 25th(!) wedding anniversary. No one said a word about it. Kinda disappointing, especially when it was a "big" anniversary. I could live with that though. What I didn't like was our waitress's false warmness. I realize that it's no fun being a waitress, and you'd rather be at the table eating than serving the food; however, it is the job you are doing. While she wasn't rude or anything, she barely made eye contact with us and just seemed like she didn't care. While we didn't have a huge bill, we still didn't just order 2 main dishes - we had an appetizer, a soup, and a glass of wine. Besides, that shouldn't matter. When dropping off the bill and picking it back up, she said the right words, but was looking in another direction and moving very quickly away while saying them! Just very cold. I worked 5 years as a receptionist/secretary at a large, busy counseling facility and KNOW customer service. This waitress wouldn't have lasted a day where I was. Genuine warmth goes a long way, even on stressful days.

Friday night in Wisconsin, which means Fish Fry! Took my wife and I had the fried cod, she had the pan seared cod. Both come with coleslaw and potato pancakes. The fried fish was lightly breaded and fried to perfection, light and flaky. The homemade tartar sauce was the best tartar sauce I think I’ve ever tasted. My wife’s pan seared Cod was also cooked to perfection, nice crust on the outside, lite, flaky, and tender on the inside. We both agree we loved the potato pancakes and would come back for them alone! We didn’t have reservations so we sat in the bar area and had very good service and nice atmosphere. We also liked the zucchini and eggplant appetizers. Great place to stop for date or anytime. Maybe make a reservation on busy nights.

Will be going there later this week for an after funeral brunch, so I will have to update this review then. But the main reason that I am posting this now is to let the owners know that someone must have hacked their website. When I tried to access it, my browser stopped me and said the site was compromised. You may want to take care of that as some people don't have strong security on their devices.

After visiting this restaurant after the funeral I attended, I found it to be great, despite the somber day that it was for our family. My cousins had reserved the back room for our luncheon. I have a special diet and they were very accommodating in making sure my lunch was made to order. Our waitress was very nice and down to earth. What I loved the most was their coffee. It was excellent! I even asked our waitress what it was called and she gave me all the info. I will be purchasing some of that from the manufacturer as I really enjoyed it. For anyone interested in that, the coffee brand name is Torke Coffee.

Again, that day was a very sad day for my family, but the restaurant was modern, extremely clean and all staff wore matching uniforms. The food was very good and made to order and again, the coffee was wonderful. They also served alcohol, but I don't drink, so I can't comment on that.

Again however, I implore them to fix their website. It is not safe for people to visit.

Went for dinner..had the crab cakes fir appetizer. Salmon, spinach, and roasted potatoes. Pretty good. Wush there'd been more balsamic glaze though. Really though, overall, pretty good. The honey bourbon old fashioned was really good too.

Have to admit, I was a little disappointed this time around. Haven't been by in a while, and I ordered the bacon-wrapped meatloaf, mashed potatoes and seasonal veggies. They changed their wide array of breads to a couple focaccia rolls (pretty good). The disappointment, surprisingly, was the veggies..really undercooked brussel sprouts (like hard to get my fork in them lol). The lady that took my order (short with longish blondish hair) was very apologetic and offered to being me something in return, but I was wine with the meatloaf and mashed potatoes. The mashed taters were really good, as was the meatloaf.

WOW!!! The salmon salad was absolutely the best salad I have ever had ever! The chocolate flourless cake, seriously, amazing! Loved the atmosphere, and the service was excellent. My friend had the chicken Caesar salad she said it was one of the best.

Met friends for dinner last night. It was a first time visit for my wife and I. We all thought that the food and service were good overall. I had Chicken Risotto something or other and found the chicken to be a bit overdone. The parm coating was burned in a few spots, but the dish was still flavorful. We'll visit again one of these days.

They were able to seat our group of 20+ with less than 24 hour notice. Our waiter, Noah, was funny and so professional. He wasn’t flustered at all with multiple orders and a few fussy eaters. The delicious food was delivered hot and in a timely manner.
We had a lot of family in town for a funeral. Many of our plans were spontaneous depending on who was around. Their employee, Chad, was so helpful with the reservation. He didn’t look a bit concerned even after I added a couple of unexpected guests to our group.
I can’t wait to return and sample more of the menu.

Family and I visit for special occasions. Visited last week, the special was a scallop dish, excellent. The salmon was great and you can't go wrong with the bacon wrapped Meatloaf. Start and end the night with a Honey Bourbon Old Fashioned
