Stayed at the North Star .ohican hotel for a wedding. Rooms were nice sized, beds were comfortable, perfect walk in showers rather than tubs. Bathroom sink was stopped up, very slow running. Restaurant was large, good food. Waitress kept getting lost, food was very slow coming out of the kitchen- only 2 other tables were being used.

A bit out of the way but good odds of winning, better promotions than other’s and they tend to have more fun events. Wouldn’t bother with their club card however unless you’re a big spender, they’re very secretive about how they award points so setting goals to reach different tiers isn’t possible.

I really would like to give a higher rating but the fact of the matter is, they don't deserve it. Tuesdays are Senior Day for the 55+ crowd. Currently they give $250 to one 55+ person every 30 minutes. Great....for the seniors. They have no such promotions for the younger crowd. The vast majority of their promotions this year have been lackluster. I foolishly went almost religiously in 2024, especially for their end of the month grand prize giveaways. There was a reoccurring theme. One month a winner was "John Smith", next month was "Jane Smith" and in a later month they both won. With their "drawing barrel" being digital, it's hard to belive that it is legitimate. The RTP is really low. Obviously there are people who get lucky and catch a good run but overall it certainly doesn't feel that way.
Then you move on to free play and comps. You are only able to collect roughly $50 in free play for every $1,000 lost. They have justified themselves a little bit by allowing that number to be racked up over multiple visits and no longer just a single visit.
Then you have their "membership" tiers.
You get X points for X dollars worth of play. Its something like 26,000 points to go from brand new to top tier. Which translates into roughly $104,000.00 worth of play (free play not included). Now its one thing to have it set up like that but the absolute trash aspect of that is that it resets every 6 months.
My recommendation is that if you are visiting the area and want to play in the casino and win some money, go elsewhere. There is another casino 20-25 miles each way. To the west you have Ho-Chunk, which in my experience has a better RTP or to the East you have Menomonie, which in my experience has slightly better RTP but not as comfortable of an atmosphere.
Given how tight North Star is, its going to be hard to get me to return any time soon. If they were to offer more ways to earn or accumulate free play it would be different but as it stands, the juice isn't worth the squeeze.

It's ok. We go here instead of Wittenburg (Witt is closer to us) because they brought their free gift promotions back, although they made it a royal pain to get the gift now, to thr point that we're not sure it's worth it anymore. Payouts are prob standard for Wisconsin. We play quite a bit. 14 jackpots last year, but only ever had one here and none at Wittenberg with the hundreds of times we've gone.

Do not go off of the monthly flyers they send out.
Most of their employees don't even know what it is meant to say. 2 different kinds of Salsa is served by the poor staff (( not their fault))
Monthly drink specials and you have 2 remind them what it is.
No courtesy fridges in your rooms anymore..
Wow.. Alot of the customers I interacted with were just as disappointed as I was. I wouldn't recommend driving out of your way 2 stay. Sadly I don't recommend this one anymore

Went for the seafood buffet, crab was over cooked and the meat was stuck in the shell, absolutely disgusting to eat.
The shrimp was large and very good, the spaghetti and meat sauce was to die for, $49 seafood was a bust!

The machines have a wide variety. We went on Sunday 8/17 for the breakfast buffet. Would definitely not recommend.
Food was lukewarm on the buffet unless you got a made to order omelet or made a waffle.
No garbage by waffle station to dispose of garbage.
Biscuits and gravy were on a separate unheated table. Items were cold.
Bacon was burnt to a crisp and greasy.
Too many separate stations with plates only available on one.
Buffet was 17.95 per person and coupon for buy one get one is only worth 11.95.

Me and my wife went to the restaurant and waited over an hour for our food. The steak was so chewy my jaw hurt after the 1st bite. There were only 3 tables filled. I would never recommend or go back.

I went for the buffet. It was garbage. The crab was discolored. They only gave you two at a time the mashed potatoes tasted like they were out of a box same as the rice. The desserts tasted like they were left in our fridge for days prior to the buffet, it was ultimately the worst buffet I’ve ever been to, which is very disappointing because I love to eat.

My boyfriend and I drove over an hour for the crab buffet. We were told about 30 minutes for a table and that tables were turning over pretty quick. 45 minutes later and we still didn't have a table and heard nothing. Meanwhile there were empty tables in the dinning room the whole time. Ultimately we had to leave due to another time sensitive commitment. Very disappointed in the wait time for a buffet and service.

The breakfast check in staff needs a restraining on customer service and processes. At 9:45 they are telling people the wait is so long they may not get seated turning away business. The breakfast ends at 11 am! Really? They hand out buzzers to notify people but then buzz people out of order! I recommend to retrain the restaurant check in staff on how to better service your customers, not turning customers away, and a process that is efficient in checking in people. They were still seating people at 10:45 but turned away dozens of people. DO BETTER FOR YOUR CUSTOMERS!!

Your casino needs a good cleaning and maintenance!! I cannot believe how much repairs are visible needing to be done and your slot stools and seating look terrible. Most I sat in were cracked and torn.

It's bad enough that you do not pay out when I am here but use my money lost to maintain your business and train staff to better service your customers.

I don’t know where to even begin with my level of disgust for the management of Mohican Northstar casino and their careless attitude about how their staff treats guests. I’ve been to casinos all over the world and NEVER have I been as DISRESPECTED by a dealer AND pit boss, the way I was on Mother’s Day (in the presence of my mother). One of the dealers there (Jesse), who was assigned to run the craps table, refused to even look at me, while saying out loud “this isn’t his game” that he “hated it”, and “didn’t want to be there”. Perhaps this isn’t something you should tell customers trying to spend their hard earned money. After hearing this and being treated this way, I asked to speak with a pit boss who stormed over and when I asked to just cash out, was told to “just shut up” twice. I reached out to the general manager Tony Granquist (through email and voicemail) as well as the president of the tribe Shannon, neither of which bothered to respond. They also didn’t even bother to review the surveillance tape, offer any sort of apology or consideration for my experience, NOTHING. Instead, I got a canned response from some table games manager there who said my “experience will be better next time”. No thanks, there won’t be a next time if that’s how you treat a guest who has been patronizing your casino for years.

Overall a good casino that offers nice amenities such as hotels, pool, bingo, concerts, tables and slots! However please be aware this has to be one of the tightest giveback for slots in the state of Wisconsin. I've brought about 3-4k in the last month or two and haven't won a single free game/bonus unless I'm betting small under $1.50.

Room service did not meet the expected standards, displaying unsanitary and unclean conditions. Bug bites were an unwelcome surprise. A bug was encountered at 3am, with notification to management delayed until morning. Only an apology & nothing more! This experience damaged North Star's reputation, resulting in a lasting, negative impression. The bug bites persist. CHECKED OUT - DON'T THINK WE'LL BE COMING BACK!

When I called and made my reservation the lady told me checking was at 3. When I and several people got in line at 2:50- after about 20 minutes a lady behind the desk said if we were waiting to check in that it didn't start until 4:00. I pointed out that the sign said 3:00 and I was told 3. She just said it was at 4:00. So at 4:00 there were about 20 people in line . Even though there were 6 persons behind the desk only one started to check in - after 4:10. It took more than 25 minutes to get roo keys -' and not once did anyone apologize or explain the inconvenience. I have been going to Northstar for a long time but I and everyone else in line were truly disgusted.

Ranking North Star's experience this past weekend top to bottom.
1) Nobody can argue that this is one of the best casinos in the state for comps
2) Employees are friendly and helpful
3) Most visitors here are friendly and it's very easy to strike up a conversation
4) The food is above average and prices are great. I had steak and eggs at the Embers Grill for breakfast. This meal with coffee was $15.45 before any discount was applied. The sirloin steak was one of the tastiest and largest cuts of meat I can remember having with a breakfast. Not many places in Wisconsin can beat this deal.
5) Hotel room was very clean, however the chairs were very dated (possibly original from 1992).
6) Finally I didn't play any table games, I played slots. But slots can run hot and cold depending upon time of day. I was talking with a young player from Oshkosh and he said, "He plays for a little bit (then takes a break), walks around, grabs a drink from the bar, it's a great way to escape Wisconsin winters . . .I totally agree with his assessment.

Also, we always go to Johnny Rockets restaurant, but it was terrible.
We have to wait for the table to be cleaned, as the food is overfry.

Only one problem from the entire visit. First,on vacation and took a 20 mile detour to check it out. Why not we're on vacation.
Get there get a players card . Having fun. Tried some blackjack, and got the world's most "i hate people "blackjack dealer i have ever come across in my years on the planet.
If you lost you barely got to see your final card before your money was gone. Super grumpy attitude. She wore a mask so you had to see here eyes. It was insane.
Had a chance to double down so I gave the table a good luck bump. She stopped the game and told me she will not deal since I" crossed the line"
And then continued to scold me for doing so before she carried on.
It was a surreal experience. Full disclosure. I lost. I tried. And we had fun.
But I will never ever play cards again at this resort because of this woman. Or probably never visit again.
