Northern pub and grill is something to behold here on the peninsula. It advertises itself as a pub and grill and has the bar astetic until you step into a dining area in the back. Now it's selection is Italian americano, with pizzas, pastas,salmon, calamari, whitefish and your typical pub burger.

Here's the odd part. They have an Italian selection but don't offer bread and olive oil to begin your meal. I guess that's them getting around labeling themselves as Italian. Whatever they are trying I guess. But then I see on the menu Spaghetti Bolognese, thier homemade sauce and add a Meatball for 5 dollars.

This totalled $29 for this dish. I obviously expected something to really show they are Italian americano especially with that price tag, however I got a bland tomato sauce which had little to no spice, as well as a mushy Meatball, also lacking in flavor. The pasta was on the thicker and tougher side so I disregard this as this is customer preference sometimes.

However having this $30 meal be as bland as it was is borderline criminal. It has SO much potential to be Italian, but if you come here, do not order this dish, you will be disappointed. I am unfortunately a tourist and will most likely not be visiting this establishment again until years later. Here's hoping your menu increases in quality!

Disappointing- poor value. $135 including tip for 2 adults and 2 children without appetizers or dessert or scenic view. Flat sodas $3.50. The good places are run by adults but this place had no management presence, just young seasonal workers- like they just take the tourist business for granted. $8 kids butter noodles - bowl half full- how skimpy can you get? The food was meh and the texture of the chicken parm was not good. They just want your money. At least when you overpay at a place with a view, you can enjoy the view. This place advertises itself as an Italian-American restaurant, but unfortunately, it doesn’t live up to that claim. The food portions are small for the price, and the quality is mediocre at best. What’s served doesn’t really reflect traditional Italian cooking — it feels more like a watered-down attempt at it.
on top of that, the service was genuinely disappointing. Staff seemed rushed to get us out of there, and inattentive, which made the whole experience a little frustrating.

It’s also worth noting that the manager appears more focused on boosting online ratings instead of addressing the real issue about this place overall. When a restaurant relies on friends and staff to leave positive reviews, instead of improving food and service, that honestly says a lot.
Overall, I can't recommend this restaurant. There are far WAY better options in door county for both authentic Italian food and quality service.

Nice restaurant setup, mediocre food which could’ve been better if my partner and I weren’t so put off by how rude this supposed young blonde lady (Elena or Lena was her name?) we encountered was. I guess she’s an owner or something but seems the type of person who shouldn’t be in charge. As a small local business everyone and anyone should be welcome and we were given the impression she has a short fuse and definitely is nicer to select people than others. Overall not good energy my girl and I were not here for it. Word of advice if you’re on 42 just pass on by and go to husby’s or the bowl at least the atmosphere at those places are inviting.

Heard this place was good but was severely disappointed in the service of the waitress. Rude and seemed to be hurried to just end her shift. This was one of our favorite places in Door County but something has changed. Not the same homey atmosphere. The game room is reduced to 2 pin ball machines-a let down for our kids. Patio is not dog friendly despite being in DC where dogs are welcome almost anywhere. The relaxed atmosphere is gone and we miss it. 🥲

I didn't have high expectations. The place didn't seem updated, or as modern, but definitely a pub feel. Maybe just getting rid of the dingy old carpet would have helped the atmosphere. We've been to Northern Grill many times (usually just 2 of us), however last month I brought a group of 50 on a Thursday night. To say I was impressed with the food and service is an understatement! Leading up to the night, I worked with Lena to coordinate since the restaurant was also open for regular walk-in diners that night too. We arrived at 7:15pm and everyone was seated by 7:30pm (as promised). Drink orders were taken (Bartender Charlie was amazing getting them all out), food orders were taken and everyone enjoyed the cozy dining room space. As the food arrived, my guests got very quiet as they were all enjoying their delicious meals. I have to admit, I was a little nervous about bringing this large of a group during the start of peak season in Door County; however, Lena, Charlie and their amazing staff nailed it! Whether it's a date night for 2 or a party for 50, you can't go wrong with the Northern Grill! Delicious food, stiff drinks and friendly staff!

Stopped for a couple of take-out pizzas after just arriving to our resort. Bartender was friendly and accommodating, food was great, but don’t think he was really happy with my tip. Just walked away when I threw down $3. Sorry, but since we decided to go in a “different direction,” a few years ago, some folks are able to absorb these staggering cost increases more than others. I still tip 15 to 20% for dine in, but I never really felt compelled to tip more than a few $ for takeout.

We have been staying in Door County three or four times per year for a long time. Then Northern Grill & Pub has been a favorite all that time. Rustic atmosphere, pretty good food and reasonable prices. The atmosphere is still nice (actually upgraded during Covid). The food is still reasonably good, but prices have sky rocketed. Beyond reasonable. We ordered two plates of spagetti ($25 ea), one meatball each ($5 ea), a hamburger ($14.75), bread, ($10), and a beer ($7). The spagetti included one piece of garlic bread. No soup or salad. A 3% service charge was added to the tab prior to payment (no explaination on what that was for). Total for three people in a bar and grill - $100! Total with tip - $120. That's over the top. As much as we like the atmosphere, that's it for us. There are a lot of restaurants in Sister Bay that are nicer, and much more reasonable.

First time here, I ordered a plain chicken sandwich $19 that originally came with all kinds of toppings including cheese. Just wanted lettuce, was charged extra- my husband ordered the fish & chips $16-that came with a tiny tarter sauce barely enough to cover one of the 3 pieces of fish, asked for another and was also charged extra! When we asked our server, she said they charge extra for everything, it’s prodigal- WOW really? A little ridiculous considering we were charged $3.00 for a single can of coke. SIster Bay was jammed and we ended up here because we wanted to eat outside and they have a nice patio. I had the pesto chicken sandwich, my companion had the whitefish dinner. We ordered online, recieved a time estimate for our order, and when we went to pick it up we found out they were closed for the season. They still took our money through the online order. Maybe update the site so it says you are closed for the season.

Reasonable prices, tried the greatest cheese curds ever and the okee dokee artichokey for appetizers and supreme pizza for dinner. The appetizers, one making a bold claim and the other using a more lackluster jokey phrasing were both delicious and I would order them again. Pizza was also very good, although after the appetizers my party didn't get through as much of it as we planned. Leftovers! Staff was friendly and energetic. Highly recommend. Covid guidelines: they just reopened last Thursday. The game room looked moderately sized but I did not go in, it was shut down for now for public safety. They require you wear a mask until you are seated, if you happen to be reading this in the parking lot and didn't bring one, don't fret- they'll sell you one at the door for a dollar. All staff masked up and barriers installed around the bar. Also noticed they had bags (or cornhole, depending on who raised you) and table tennis outside, unfortunately I did not notice these until I was leaving and am unable to verify if they are playable at this time.

Enjoyed a late lunch here on a cold winter day. Plenty of homemade soups to choose from. My friend and I tried the Packer Backer - very good kielbasa hoagie sandwich. The coleslaw was delicious! Our server was very welcoming and attentive. Will definitely have to come back and try more off the menu!
