Food: We had the cheese curds and boneless wings. The cheese curds were gross- like they had been fried earlier, left sitting for hours, then refried when we ordered. Giant grease balls. The wings were not good either. The sauces were nasty- BBQ, spicy garlic, and garlic Parmesan. All were so bad we couldn’t eat them.

Service: the waitress was nice but she could clearly see we didn’t eat 3/4 of our food and didn’t offer to comp anything even though we told her it didn’t taste very good.

Atmosphere: we sat at a booth and both seats needed to be restuffed badly. We could feel a metal bar or something under us. Very uncomfortable.

Sad to give this place such a bad review but it is an honest review.

Placed a pick up order on their website. Two sides of fries, a side of macaroni and cheese, a Nashville hot chicken sandwich with fruit, and a truffle shroom smash burger with fries. Got the order confirmation which stated it was going to be ready at 8:37pm, I arrived at 8:44pm to find that the order was not ready and proceeded to wait until 8:59 pm when it was finally brought out to me by the manager. There were only 4 tables with customers when I was there. Fries were way too salty, burger was average. Macaroni and cheese was gritty and flavorless. Nashville hot chicken sandwich was alright but the high point was the fruit, very tasty. Would visit again unless it was the only place open.

My wife and I decided to try something new on our 8th anniversary we waited 20 minutes for a beer and a gin and tonic they where out of the only appetizer that we wanted and we couldn't decide on anything on the menu because non of it really sounded that good and the prices $16 for tomato soup and grilled cheese? Grace,the bartender spent the majority of her time chatting with her friends at the bar then attending to her customers. I know everything about her upcoming vacation to Washington but I was constantly waiting for water refills. When my steak came out over-cookes the manager spoke very condescending to me. She stood there and told me to check to see " if it was up to my standards". Like asking for my 22$ steak to be medium was an unreasonably high of a standard. I didn't bother to mention that one of my 5 cheese curds were completely empty because I just didn't want to be talked down to again.

The actual restaurant is very cute. We have been there a handful of times and always had a positive experience. But this visit left a sour taste in my mouth and I could easily spend 90$ across the street instead.

I'm giving this place a 4 star because when I went there, last Saturday, the waitress told us, and I quote, "we were voted to have the best wings in the chippewa Valley" so I thought their wings would be delicious. I ordered some wings and they were anything but the best wings in the chippewa Valley... the garlic wings were soggy and sad. No crispness whatsoever to them.

But their burgers, pizzas, cheese curds, and fries were amazing.

6-28-25 Edit: Since my review 4 years ago, their food has gotten a lot better and now they do deserve to say that they have the best wings in the Chippewa Valley. Idk what they changed about their wings, but keep doing whatever it is because those were the best chicken wings that I have ever had!

We tried the Hand-Cut House Boneless Wings with Sticky Garlic Gochujang Sauce – they were ok, not something I’d go back for.

But the real winner was the Wood Fire Pizza (Build Your Own) with mushroom, sautéed onions and garlic oil – absolutely delicious! Fresh, flavorful and perfectly crisped in the wood fire. Highly recommend trying the pizza here!

The service (Meredith) was exemplary and the atmosphere of the restaurant is cool, but the quality of the food is mediocre at best with flavor being an unknown concept here. I decided to be adventurous with the March Bloody Mary of the Month which was a very cool concept of a St. Patrick's themed beverage and meal. One reuben cut into fourths (I think they added two pieces of bread to make it look larger?), a reuben egg roll, and a potato skin along with a classic cheese, olive, beef stick, pickle spear accompanying the lot. No price was listed, but I assumed it couldn't be more than $15 let alone $20. After a bland sandwich, a doughy egg roll, and a bloody more watery than the Busch Light I had as a chaser, I was shocked to find out that this cost was $34!! Needless to say I would not recommend this establishment.

I got the Big Dill Bloody (which i absolutely loved) and the Nashville Hot Chicken Mac N Cheese (which i thought was a little dry. I was hoping for creamier being it's Mac n cheese). We also got the large bacon and Chive tots (which needed more spices they were definitely a little bland) and the mango quesadilla (which was very good, especially with their house mayo) All in all, the food was pretty good. They were surprisingly dead, and our waitress didn't come and check on us at all, and we waited some time to order our food. We've had Northern Taphouse countless times before and never really had any issues. I think this is the first time I have anything negative to say, especially about the service. Normally, the service is the best part of the experience.

Great Taphouse to enjoy lunch. We visited with our children while on a local Girls hockey tournament. The only flaw was not informing us before finishing our individual billings of drinks and food that a 20% tip fee had already been added to each of our 15 families bills. My fiancé and I absolutely loved the food and great service here during our first visit. We came in today because of how great our first experience at Northern Taphouse was. We had known it was a little busy and knew it may be a bit of a wait for food. We were greeted promptly by our server and ordered drinks and the cheese curds appetizer. We waited for around 10-15 minutes and got our appetizer and continued waiting for our drinks. Eventually I went to the bar to get our drinks we ordered because we had been checked on several times at this point without getting the drinks. Our food was then misplaced to someone else’s meal and were told only one of our meals was ready and so we asked to take them both to go instead. The manager was very kind and understanding that a mistake was made in the service we received today and was kind enough to comp our whole meal. I am hopeful that if we do return to eat here again that the service will be better next time. I appreciate the kindness of the staff in attempting to rectify the situation, however it was an overall disappointing experience.

We used to love going out to eat here but we’re very disappointed in the food quality this time. Starting with the cheese curds, they were clumpy blobs you had to cut apart but tasted good. Then my main course was the Nashville chicken and mac. The chicken was the worst meat I have ever been served. I am not sure what they even did to it to make it so dry and brittle but it was like trying to eat sticks. Another member of our party already sent back his salad because the plate was dirty. It was a slow Tuesday night and after getting seated we waited 5 minutes to get our drinks ordered. Our fried pickles came quickly, but our main meal took a long time. We were never once checked on while waiting. Our food was dropped off and we were never checked on again, until 10 minutes after when our waiter dropped off our check and said we could pay online. At this time I asked for Mayo and and my bf asked for water…the mayo was brought to us, but we never got the water.

We also signed up for the rewards, and were told we could not use the free appetizer today, and we would have to come back to use it because it was not in the system yet. 🤦🏼‍♀️

Your standard Wisconsin pub and bar with good food. The beer selection is varied and they change it up frequently so there's likely always something on tap to quench your thirst. Curds, wings, burgers, and more, all cooked well and plenty of seasoning. The waitress and staff were super kind and friendly. Sports on every TV there so no matter what game of ball you're into, they'll probably be broadcasting it. The snoop dogg gin & tonic was really good! Give it a try if you're into trying new things.

Stopped on our trip. Not terrible- but my pizza was very greasy and the bison burger wasn’t special. Good beer on tap though so great place for a drink and friendly service.
