Second time going here for an early dinner. The wait staff was more interested in chatting amongst themselves than tending to their guests. Curds and fries were soaked in grease and over powering garlic taste. Didn’t even eat more than a handful. Waitstaff stood at the hostess stand talking and staring at tables they wanted to wrap up eating so they could set up big tops.
3 meals barely eaten they didn’t ask if we wanted boxes just took our plates, wait at least 15 minutes for a bill I had to request.

Many bar customers being very loud and rowdy. Children screaming and running around the restaurant as if it was a jungle gym. We moved tables due to the chaos. The family and I went to have dinner on the patio on a beautiful Wisconsin August evening with surprisingly mild weather. The service was welcoming and accommodating. Oakstone is amazing. Indoor and outdoor sports are all on the agenda. Simple menu (which I like) and complex drink menu (which I like). Great beer on tap, lots of games to play including a rubber duck claw game for the kids that is play-until-you-win. Off the beaten path, it's well worth the visit. Bags, volleyball, they got it all. Horrible experience tonight around 6:45. I never got my food after my partner did. We sat at the bar and the bartender took our food and drink order. She did get busy but she never checked back on us at all. We couldn’t get her attention while my partner ate her meal. I wonder if she forgot to put in my order? Even if she did, I would not have been so disappointed as the fact we were completely ignored.

I have never been treated like that In a bar before. Before we could even decide if we were going to sit down at the bar or table. Should of pick the table the bar tender was such a whole for no reason not sure if it was because my 2 kids were colored or not, would not even look at use or come by us take it there was only 15 people max in the whole place. A wonderful familly facility. Sunfilled sports and events venue, traven area, good family food choices (burgers, wraps, salad, and the best french fries we've had in a traven setting). Always been one of our favorite local places, but after visits the last two weekends I dont see us coming back - there are other dining options in CG where our business is valued. During both visits bar service was basically nonexistent for paying customers. The servers were clearly only interested in serving and drinking with coworkers. By the end of the night bartenders were too drunk to serve anyone. Took us nearly 20 minutes to find someone who could help us with our tab (curious how many other paying customers just walked out?) Man the food this place puts out is of great quality and absolutely filling. So you will find this place in what feels like an odd place. We were in an industrial type area and thought maybe we took a wrong turn. Nope there it was. Super cute driving. Patio outside with a stage area. Then pull in to find volleyball courts on the other side...outside. Park and go in and it has a fun vibe right away. We got there shortly after they opened so we were the only ones there. Big indoor volleyball area. Games to play. Food was excellent. So many things I wanted to try on the menu. Definitely get the curds and you have to get the cookie dough for dessert! Family friendly. Staff was great. If we are in the area we will be back for sure but we may just make a drive down and spend the day in Madison to get to go again too. Maybe catch a band. Great place!

Oakstone Recreational 🍔

As we've been trying out more restaurants around us, we came across Oakstone Recreational. Their menu looked amazing, and the atmosphere seemed like something we definitely wanted to check out. We love pub food, and this seemed like a great spot to try.

The cheeseburger was very tasty; it was juicy and had a slightly smokey taste. The bun was gorgeous and was incredibly fresh and soft. The meat itself was tender and had a great flavor, not overly seasoned but just right.

My favorite item was the cheese curds. You can order them in 1/2 lb. or 1lb sizes, which is great if you're feeding a large group, or you just really like cheese curds. They were not greasy in the slightest, like how some cheese curds can be. They had a light breading on them, which meant you could taste the cheese flavor even better. The cheese was squeaky and creamy with a perfect balance of salt.

The tater tots were a perfect side choice for the burger. Crispy and fried to a nice golden brown. The inside of the tots tasted like McDonald's hashbrowns in the best way possible. They were insanely good and not greasy at all. We would 100% get these again.

We also tried the Slap-o-rito which was a smokey grilled chicken and wild rice burrito that was smothered in two different types of salsa. The burrito itself was pretty good, the chicken was nice and juicy, and the seasoning on the rice was yummy. The salsa on the top wasn't my wife's favorite. It was spicy, but didnt have a ton of flavor outside of the heat. Overall, she would order it again, but maybe with the sauce on the side.

My wife's favorite thing we ordered was the garlic green beans. They were so fresh and had a great snap to them. The garlic flavor wasn't overpowering but was a nice compliment to the fresh veggie flavor. It's rare to get a vegetable side at a restaurant that actually tastes fresh instead of frozen or canned.

We will be going back to Oakstone Recreational for sure. The atmosphere inside the building is very cozy yet modern at the same time. It's even cooler that you can use a number of their different athletic spaces (volleyball, basketball etc) and have delicious food in the same place.
