Edit: we watched about 10 other people in different groups go in before us and they weren't charged a dime. We turned around when we learned it was going to cost us $40 to go into a bar with no artist performing at the time. This was during Mile of Music weekend with over 500 free shows to attend in other venues. Left a bad taste in our mouths!

We wanted some German food while in the area. So we drove down from Green Bay. On Saturdays or at least this Saturday there was some street festival, so lots of drunks milling about on the sidewalks getting there. Didn’t think it was open, looked closed from the street. Has an interesting vibe inside. All I could think of was 90’s euro nightclub. I guess there is a night club in back. We got a self professed new girl for a server. She took our order and came back a couple times to clarify what we did or didn’t get with our entrees after telling us what came with them. She was nice, just real green. The soups were alright. The Rueben one is definitely different. My wife liked the spatzel, not my favorite. I liked the meatballs, she said the schnitzel wasn’t here favorite. The bread sticks were good. Had a flight of beers and they were alright.

I have been searching the country for a german crispy pork shank. Chris and his staff offer a weekly special 21oz very crispy pork shank. It was truly special and tasted fantastic. It was baked too perfection. My wife loved the Oscar schnitzel, and my daughter loves their Rahm schnitzel. Their salmon is a work of art also, and that sauce is rich in flavor.

I spent over 5 work-trip years in Germany other European nations; I say that to qualify my review. In order to find more authentic German schnitzel and their other foods, you need to book a flight to Munich. We eat here at least every 3 weeks, and have never had anything less than perfect service and meals. Schnitzel is pounded and prepared on-site, not shipped in already prepared and just heated up like the other local restaurants do. The rest of the menu items are the same and delicious as well. Service is terrific, and the prices will make you think they forgot to charge you for something. Best veteran discounts in the Valley. There are about 3 different German restaurant "atmospheres": the "oom -pah-pah" Oktoberfest, the fine dining fancy-schmancy, and the modern-ish "techno" style. They do the techno and it is very clean. Their reservation system on the website is easy and efficient. Never had service or meals here that wasn't fantastic.

Thoroughly enjoyed the excellent German sampler meal, which includes schnitzel, a pork shank, a bratwurst, and a meatball at OB's downtown Appleton. Everything was well prepared and delicious. The sampler is served with soup, a breadstick, and spaetzel as well. The star of the show, however, was the giant pretzel appetizer accompanied by whipped butter and cheese sauce. The perfect texture inside and out made it completely delectable. I amped up the excellent cheese curds by running them through some mushroom gravy. Don't sleep on the red cabbage either because the vinegar in it balances well with the rich meats. The place is a bit upscale with moody lighting. Don't let the fact that it becomes a music club late at night deter you. The ambiance is fine, and the staff was very attentive and friendly. Of course, they serve liter steins of delicious beer, too. Prost!

I was expecting much more from this establishment, based on other reviews. The food was adequate, but certainly not the authentic German food to which I am accustomed. The atmosphere is absolutely not German; I think this was my first let-down. If the DJ is expected, you'll be rushed to finish so they can allow him/her to have the space you occupy.
I love German food above all others. However, should I return to the Appleton area, I'll seek out another German establishment having the same high expectations.

The wait time was atrocious when the restaurant was _half_ full. The tables and floors were dirty, and no one was doing anything to clean them. The alleged ‘owner’, Chris, has a snide attitude, and would rather just stand around doing nothing, while paying customers gave their business to their direct competition. Pathetic way to handle a business. But then, again, when you have an attitude like Chris does, that reflects towards how this restaurant is conducted and likely treated by his staff. Do better.

Ate here for Fox Cities Dining week and the food was super good. Great, authentic German food. I got the reuben soup, pork shanks, and bread pudding and everything was 10/10. Our server was great as well.

Since the food was so great I'm giving this place 5 stars, HOWEVER the interior ambiance is totally bizarre. Nothing about this place feels German at all, instead the decor is like a dark, cheap, outdated "club" vibe. The super off-putting led spotlights on the ceiling made us feel like we were sitting in an interrogation room.

I think this business doesn't quite know what it wants to be, and it shows. We were the only ones eating on a Friday night during a big promotion, and the only other patrons were a couple people up at the bar. If they want to truly give people a German food experience I think their whole space needs a major overhaul - check out Mader's, Von Trier, or the Old German Beer Hall in Milwaukee.

I would still 100% recommend that people stop in for great food despite the weird interior!

When Frank owned OB’s, we absolutely loved coming here for every special events, birthdays, holidays and all. Multiple times would have groups over 40 people. However we have been here 3x with new ownership and unfortunately we have had poor service each time. New Years Eve topped it off. We had dinner reservations for 7:30pm. Our waitress was great. We got our soup, breadsticks and drinks/water came out right away thanks to her. When we noticed that the table behind us received their food before us, we were extremely upset. They sat down after us. Anyways.. our food on the other hand….. waited well OVER an hour… He handed us a $50 gift card and made us pay for $40 worth of drinks (3 of us, 2 drinks each)… to top it off said “I hope I didn’t ruin your New Year’s Eve” well sir.. you did. We ended up taking our food to go, which ended up being burnt. We are SO disappointed. Speechless about our overall experience. We will not be returning.

This was my first time here. My friend was wanting to try this place for a while now. Tuesday night was not too busy. I was impressed with the beautiful bar area. They don't have a huge tap selection but enough that there should be something for most pallets. If you are a malty beer fan, thus is the place for you! Service was a good pace. I didn't feel rushed at all, but also didn't feel ignored. Food was fantastic! One member of our party ordered the sampler platter so we all got to see / try a bigger selection. I didn't get the schnitzel as it is pork and I wasn't sure I was going to like it. My husband got it and I tried a bit and it was really good! A surprising option was the spetzels and cheese. You can get as a main dish or a side. That was also delicious! We weren't able to partake in the happy hour specials but those looked good as well. I would definitely go back and maybe check out the happy hour specials.

“Guten Appetit” My husband and I were celebrating our 26th wedding anniversary and made the BEST decision to have the BEST meal ever. The service was efficient, friendly, and spot-on for timing the meal. Chris, the owner, has a bright and caring light in his heart, and you can truly see the pride and care he puts into his establishment, the generosity and friendliness with his staff, and his HUGE HEART! He heard it was our anniversary and made our night one to remember forever. You MUST have the Reuben Soup- the only problem is you will be sad when your bowl is empty. The baked Brie with lingonberries was an amazing contrast of sweet and salty. Order the schnitzels. All of them. We each ordered the ones that had white asparagus. One also had ham, the other had lovely ingredients and a delectable cheese sauce. Save room for the beignets. You will be incredibly happy that you did. Edit: I am updating my review due to the new information received and how a lot of the issues were out of the venue’s hands. I also appreciate that the owner reached out to me to apologize when he definitely didn’t need to. I appreciate the customer service.

I went to a show here a couple of nights ago and it was an absolute mess. First off, the tickets said the show started at 7pm. Thankfully I had received an email saying that was an error and that it was to start at 10pm, but I talked to many people at the show who hadn’t seen the email and arrived several hours early. I also likely would not have bought tickets for a 10pm show on a week night had I known in advance that the show was so late. We were then advised that doors would open at 9pm and the show would start at 10pm. We were toward the back of the line and entered the venue about 10:40pm due to doors opening late and a very slow moving line through security. The service at the bar was mediocre at best. There were times when I would go to the bar for a beverage with cash visible in my hand and bartenders who were not occupied with other things would just stand there until I politely asked for their attention. The restrooms are at the back of the venue so whenever you need to use the restroom you have to push through the crowd surrounding the stage. The only saving grace was that security was extremely friendly and there was one bartender who was very nice.

Incredibly delicous, authentic German food. Food comes out piping hot and perfectly cooked. My Grandma was from Bavaria and I grew up on a lot of spaetzle, maltauschen, and schnitzel. This is the closest I've had to that without leaving the states.

My boyfriend and I went out last night to celebrate his birthday, and they made it extra special! From the complimentary pretzels, delicious meal, to the strudel they brought out with a candle, everything was perfect. Service was also very fast, even though we ordered quite a bit and we came during happy hour rush. I'd blink and another plate would come out.

They play tricks with the discounts and happy hour pricing. Happy hour beers and appetizers are for ordering at the bar only. Very dissatisfied with the owner/manager who said that the bar is "separate for happy hour", just like any other bar/restaurant. That is the first time I have heard this. This was our first time at the Brau Haus and it was quite enjoyable. Anne recommended the special which was the schnitzel. I had the Ruebin soup while the others had the goulash. Both were delicious. This was the best schnitzel I ever had. Cooked to perfection. Chris, the owner stopped by to chat. We were in Appleton for a family wedding and were trying to find a place that could accommodate a party of 12. Walking down the street we started chatting with Chris the owner out front and he said he could accommodate our family. We were thrilled. While we waited for the rest of the family to arrive we chatted with Michelle/Owner at the bar and she was wonderful helping me find a wine that suited my pallet ( I am very picky). Our server Valerie was extremely attentive and helpful with the service and navigating the German cuisine menu.

I really think the food at this restaurant is exemplary in this context which is saying a lot. If you want delicious German food, please try this place and I promise it will not disappoint. Great service, food, and beer. My grandma grew up eating German food and she approves. Reuben soup has a saurkraut bite, czechoslovakian soup was savory with a little spice. Strudel was amazing, shanks were amazing, the czechoslovakian goulash was also very good. The schnitzel had a delicious mushroom sauce. I 100% recommend.

The food here is excellent, by far the best German food I've ever eaten. My friends and I used to frequent the Old German Beer Hall in Milwaukee, which we enjoyed, but this is a more welcoming atmosphere. Don't be intimidated by the "Club" signs on the door, once inside the restaurant it's a very clean/modern eatery. Service is always fantastic (especially when the owner is your waiter) and food is flawless.
For me, it's my favorite beer in the area, possibly the best pretzel (appetizer) I've ever eaten, fried pickles are great, goulash soup-special is a must-have, incredible schnitzel (I've only eaten schnitzel in one or two more restaurants, this one is the best I've eaten), "pig wings"/pork shanks are amazing, and I would absolutely recommend the apple dessert.
One of my new favorite restaurants, my friends and I try to make an appearance biweekly at this point. If I don't go with my friends, this is still a family-friendly place for all ages. This place has changed my opinion on German food as a cuisine- my coworkers, family, and friends also agree.

Lively, 3 stars because charging ten bucks to get in door just to listen to a street rap dj was not worth it then drinks were over 5 dollars a drink. But it was a good atmosphere with lots of dancing. They also need to try and keep up with spills on the floor, became very slippery.

I came here the other night with a group of friends on the recommendation of another friend. We were helped by new owner (I think he said his name was Chris...but he also told us his name was Frank so now I'm confused). Anyways, I don't know how many good things I can say without running out of words. The food was incredible. From our pork shank appetizer and giant pretzel to the remarkably flavorful schnitzel with cheese spaetzle which... Was well portioned and our strudel dessert. It was all amazing. I will absolutely come back. Don't let the "night club" decor scare you away, you will make a mistake if you don't make it here for dinner.

Just got done with our dining experience. One word: fabulous. Our party of 3 enjoyed every single bite of our respective dinners. The hefeweizen was delicious, the Bavarian Pretzel appetizer was the best I've ever had, and our dinners! Just wow!! The Bratwurst dinner, Rahm schnitzel, and pork shank dinners were some of the best we've ever eaten. I would highly recommend OB's as a delicious German cuisine experience and a good value for the price. Service was also excellent! I wish I could go back there and be a regular. We are traveling through the area so I can only hope to return as soon as possible.
