What a gem!
The food is the real deal. Between a few visits my wife and I have explored a variety of the menu. Everything is, somehow, elevated beyond what you expect. It's so dang good!
This is a more old-fashioned dining experience that encourages you to take your time. It's much more hospitable than having a Toast touchscreen shoved at you, in my opinion.
If its your first time get the burek, chevapchichi, and whatever is on special. You won't be disappointed!

While visiting some friends in Wisconsin they took me to Old Town Serbian Gourmet knowing that I would love the place. They were not wrong! As a man of Hungarian decent, I was delighted to see that they had chicken paprikas on the menu. It did not disappoint! The chicken and flavor were phenomenal and perfectly prepared. The restaurant reminded me of evenings with my Hungarian grandparents at their social clubs. Thank you for a great meal!

Have been there for Thanksgiving the last two years and it was a lovely experience. The staff was friendly, prompt & knew the menu. The prices were not inflated for the holiday as some places do, which was a pleasant fact. Their amazing Serbian regular menu items as well as specials like full turkey dinner or goose were available.
Reservations were made ahead due to the holiday.
Portions are generous, food was delicious & a wonderful value. The Schaum Torte is absolutely incredible (look up this dessert if you dont know what it is! Yum)

Food wasn’t too bad, although our sausage was a bit raw. Burek was not the best, just a simple pie without any sides. Service was poor. We set there for over an hour waiting for our food, people behind us , who came at least 15 minutes later got their food before us. I guess she had some kind of prejudice against us. I will never go there again and will not recommend anyone to go there as well

So as I write this review I feel embarrassed that it has taken me so long to visit this restaurant that has been in business for as long as I can remember. That being said, the meal at this establishment was one that I will remember for a long time. It also encourages me to return as soon as I can. Our visit began at the bar for our usual pre-dinner cocktails. My wife wanted me to make sure I mentioned the Serbian Old Fashioneds she enjoyed on our visit. She said they we were delicious. Our meal started with bread fresh out of the oven accompanied by 2 delicious homemade spreads. A creamy cheese spread and an eggplant and what seemed to be tomato spread. Both had amazing flavor and tasted great on the crusty bread. For starters we chose the Tomato and Roasted Red Pepper salad. Sprinkled with a soft cheese and topped with a light vinaigrette the salad, like the bread course was full of flavor. Our other starter was the Serbian Escargot. A generous portion of snails( like 12!!)in an incredible garlicky herbed butter. Some of the best escargot we’ve ever had. Grilled bread was served on the side and was used to sop up every last bit of the butter sauce. Both of our starters could have easily served 3 to 4 people. For entrees I chose the Raznjici/Chevapchichi combo off the Grill section of the menu. This is a combination of perfectly grilled pork tenderloin chunks and Serbian sausages both with great grill flavor well seasoned and juicy. On the side were diced raw onions, and feta cheese along with perfectly grilled medley of vegetables and some of if not theee best mashed potatoes I’ve ever had in a restaurant. Needless to say my plate was licked clean when I was done. My wife chose The Braised Spring Lamb which turned out to be a very large Lamb Shank. Fork tender and melt in your mouth. The lamb was well seasoned and perfectly cooked. It was joined by red and green braised cabbage, the fore mentioned mashed potatoes, a dumpling, rice, and mixed vegetables. A very large portion indeed. Except for the the dumpling which sadly was very plain and lacking flavor the entire dish was bursting with amazing flavors. We did not try dessert although there were several options to choose from. Service was friendly, professional, and well paced. Bathrooms were small but very clean. Parking was available behind the restaurant. Prices were very reasonable for the quality and quantity of food. Sadly my wife and I were 2 of only 13 people in the entire restaurant the whole night. This is a gem of a restaurant and more people should give them a visit when looking for some amazing ethnic food. Give them a try Milwaukee!!

Hands down one of, if not the best dining experience in the whole city. I have been here several times and the food has been amazing every single time. I have tried the burek, sarma, čevapi, and the chicken paprikash. All of them were outstanding. It has a very nice, laid back feel in the restaurant. Natalia is the owner, she’s a very nice lady who always has a great story to tell. They also offer options that are Lent friendly.

One of our favorite restaurants in Milwaukee, ordered long-time favorites. Meal starts with hot, fresh baked bread that accompanies 2 great spreads. Server brought 2 bread basket refills so we could scoop up all the deliciousness. Next came the must have Serb Salad, small enough for 2. We split the spinach cheese burek, piping hot and absolutely toasty and tasty. We took half home, and a take and bake for good measure. The Serb cocktail is delicious; the quincetini
I tried had no quince taste. Finally, we finished with a unique, ginormous Schaumtorte that had unique combo of meringue and pastry layers. My friend wants the recipe. The tandem service was mostly good, but the primary server could've been friendlier.
The inside of the restaurant is getting a bit dated and could use a refresh; the 60s ladies' room really needs work with 2 of 3 facilities out of commission.

My brother and I stopped in before a concert downtown, not my first visit, but the first in a few years. In fact, our father brought us here in the 70s! Absolutely top notch dining, worthy of all the stars I could give it. Please support this long-running gem of restaurant on Milwaukee's South Side. You will not be disappointed!

I stopped with my friend on a Friday night. My family has been coming here for years but it had been awhile since my last visit. As always the food was outstanding and prepared fresh! The service was excellent and the owner came to out table to check in on us explain about the food we ordered! We really enjoyed that extra touch. Desert was out of this world. The atmosphere as always felt authentic and charming! Another great experience.

Fantastic dining experience!

A quiet evening with a richly authentic menu! Our host (who I believe was an owner) could not have been more gracious, attentive and helpful; she chatted with us about many of the dishes (the ingredients, the prep, regional changes); all at our request.

We overindulged with a full appetizer (the baked feta, so delicious and flavorful); entrees: chicken paprikash and sarma (each savory and expertly prepared; the thin cabbage wrapping was of particular note!); desserts: a strawberry torte and palchenka (the torte was light, fluffy and just the right level of sweetness; the crepe was a terrific apple and nut medley). The Serbian coffee was new to me, it had a very earthy and smooth flavor, an excellent compliment to ethereal desserts!

It was a last minute dinner choice and we were thrilled with how good it was, we will certainly make our way back!

Best recommendation for a dining experience; especially if you are looking for something unique or of Eastern European fare!

Three different meals plus a salad appetizer, everything was outstanding! 3 Serbian Chardonnays and a white Zinfandel, all were excellent. The hot bread was over the top.

First the good points. The food was very good. Their bread was delicious. My wife loved the Beef & Cheese Burek. My chicken dumpling soup was only luke warm but good. My Veal Provence was very good. The problem was after we placed our order. Our waitress ( or maybe she was the hostess since she dressed so elegantly) did not follow up with us, so the owner worked hard to get us our drinks & meals.
I realize they were busy but the three helpers need to work with the owner
so that the patrons get at least bread, water, drinks, soup & salad in a steady flow. This occupies the patrons while the cooks work on their dinners.

Okay experience. I have always wanted to try this place so since they were open Thanksgiving I made a reservation for two. We were seated about10-15 minutes after our time.
Ordered a glass of wine and a Serbian beer and Bureks for dinner. Also two cups of bean soup.
We received the drinks, soup and a small basket of standard bread with two spreads. The soup was very good, and the spreads were interesting.
An hour passed- no meals, never got water or a return visit. FInally got our huge Bureks and each ordered another drink. and requested water and knives to cut the Burek The beer appeared but no water or wine.
The Bureks were huge- enough food for 3 on each plate. They were okay but would not order it again- very salty. Finally got served the second glass of wine and some water after our meal was finished after I had gone to bar to request a glass of water.
We did order one of the Panechuke desserts to share which was very good.
Would I return? No. The bill was over 100.00 so we could do much better elsewhere. Food was uneven, service was basic at best( might be better on a non holiday).
I had read so many great reviews that my expectations were high.Just okay.

Cheese Burek is excellent! We also had goulash (delicious, but cold. ) , Veal Provance, good but cold. Their soup, mashed potatoes, sides ALL cold. Not room temp, actually chilled. Drinks are horribly expensive and weak. Hi-ball in a very small glass $12. Glass of soda $8. Not acceptable.

Four of us enjoyed the great service and fantastic food at Old Town restaurant Friday evening. It had been a number of years since we were last there as it had fallen off our radar. It was great to re-discover this gem of fine dinning! We started with the large Serbian appetizer and cocktails which was a perfect beginning and followed with entrees of Beef and Cheese Burek, Spinach and Cheese Burek, Chevapchichi, Stuffed Zucchini, and the delicious Serbian Tomato Salad. One Burek is probably enough for 2 people , however the left overs will be enjoyed! The prices are very reasonable and we highly recommend this restaurant.

Terrible. Should’ve walked out when upon entering the restaurant it smelled like an old musty dirty basement. The walls and carpet are so dirty. This place is not nostalgic, it’s super run down and dirty. In the bar area there’s a closet without a door that’s got junk thrown in it. Just a dirty junky place. The service was awful. Just awful. Our waitress left the menus on the table for the whole meal and never refilled our ice water. Never told us about the specials of the day. There were two of us and only another table of six. Eight patrons total. Why is that important? Our food was served cold. Yes, cold. Cold mashed potatoes, cold veggies and cold chicken paprikash. My husband was served cold cevaps and mashed potatoes and veggies. Last time I was here was 20+ years ago. Not good then. Very bad now. The health department should shut this filthy place down. Go to Illinois for good Serbian food. Milwaukee just doesn’t have it. Two Brothers is not that great either. Same family, same problems.

It’s difficult to come across fine dining restaurants such as yours that resonate and feel as welcome as home; old world recipes that transcend generations paired with impeccable service and attention to detail. Can’t ask for more than this. In the course of 40 years of being fortunate enough to walk through Old Town’s door, their consistency and delicious charm has not wavered. Burak was excellent and the deserts were also amazing. Kabob dish was just ok. Chicken and stuffed Zucchini were bland. But the worst by far was the service. We were one of only two parties in the whole restaurant yet it took 30 minutes before our order was taken. Every step was like pulling teeth. We asked if sides come with the meals as none were listed for some of the dishes on the menu. Waitress said yes they come with sides and started to walk away. She acted like it was an inconvenience to tell us what the sides were. The wait staff really has zero training or knowledge of standard restaurant customer service. My husband and I visited here last night with another couple. It was our first time here and this restaurant is a class act from start to finish, from the cozy decor that was warm and inviting, to the wonderful, fun service from Karri and the lovely woman who cleared our table. The highly trained owner, Natalia was fantastic and gracious, and very patient as we kept the restaurant open longer, because of the wonderful conversation we were having with them.
Now to the amazing food. The owner is also the chef.
The Serbian tomato salad was delicious. You could tell great care was taken in picking the produce. The tomatoes were so tasty, reminded me of the ones my parents grew back home. The feta cheese just melted in your mouth. It was delicious.
The rest of the food was just as delicious. From the quinoa roasted vegetables to the goulash and bureks. Again, you could tell great care was taken with cooking these meals, as well as the presentation. We finished off our amazing meal with Serbian coffee a cherry strudel, and a Schaum torte. This place is a classic Milwaukee gem. Highly recommend it.

1st time here. Good service, Friendly staff. Our waitress took her time explaining the menu and made sure we knew the specials. I loved the live music playing in the background.

It took some time before our food came but it was well worth it. I didnt kno a small salad came with the meal and it was good. Everything was fresh and hot.

The prices were different from the online menu but no complaints. If you're reading this please give this restaurant a visit. You won't be disappointed!

We had another wonderful and relaxing dinner at the Old Town Serbian Gourmet restaurant! The wine, the burek, the shrimp dinner, and of course the schaum torte and Serbian coffee were all delicious as usual. The guitar music was very nice, too. Such great food and a unique atmosphere.

Service was great, we had the pleasure of having a new member on her staff, who did an outstanding job! Food was okay, but prices are higher than they indicate on their online menu ( that needs to be updated)

We had a great time here on a slow Tuesday night. From the sweet Serbian cocktails to the huge burek entree, everything was delicious. The service was excellent and overall the atmosphere was charming. A good restaurant for an offbeat date night.

An absolute masterpiece of style, selection, intelligent staff, fair prices and mind altering flavors.
Yes the location isn’t great for parking, but seriously take an Uber . This is a perfect spot for a date night as well as any type of holiday party. So fantastic. Highly recommend the escargot, and the “Serbian salad”. Bravo!

We celebrated my parent's 50th wedding anniversary at Old Town yesterday. It was a fabulous experience from beginning to end. The service and food are always both amazing! I expect quite a bit when it comes to service, and Old Town never disappoints. If you are looking for a perfect Serbian meal this is the place. If you have never tried Serbian food, there is no better time than the present. The Serbian tomato salad, raznjici (grilled pork tenderloin kabob) and burek (phyllo dough filled with meat/cheese) are our favorites! We will definitely be visiting again soon.

My friend and I decided on splitting the tomato salad which is always tasty. The bread and butter/cheese along with the eggplant with pepper spread was awesome!

We had the shish kabob and the eggplant in an egg custard, both were delightful.

For dessert.we had coffee,. which was delicious and the schaum torte which was not.the usual merangue. It was delicious however.

Just had a delightful meal with Burek and Mousaka for our entrees. Delicious! The burek is made with phyllo and made fresh. The Mousaka is an eggplant, beef and custard dish. Creamy! Our waiter, Bojan, was new but did an outsanding job. I tried the pumpkin apple soup and we shared the Serbian appetizer plate. The Serbian potato salad is a must. The owner didn't rush us and we enjoyed our evening so very much, finishing it off with Serbian coffee We love the old world atmosphere. We hope to be back often.

Now owned by the second generation, this restaurant has not lost a step. Arguably the best restaurant in Milwaukee, Old Town's menu contains numerous choices of ethnic fare prepared in the "traditional" way, with the recipes handed down to the current owner. Service, as always was impeccable. Reasonably priced, tasteful live music provided by classical guitarist playing mostly Serbian traditional songs (though some Bosnian and Croatian songs were on the play list). Highly recommended

The food is definitely authentic! We had a large dinner where we shared several dishes like sarma, ćevapi, musaka, calf knee, etc. and it is all really made as in any good restaurant in Serbia! The live acoustic music (with old time Balkan songs) only added to the good atmosphere

Was there for an appreciation lunch. I have eaten there before and the food is good. Order the burek, either the spinach and cheese or the beef. Can't go wrong with those. Only thing is they take time to cook. But the food is good no matter what you order.

Absolutely love this place! It's like stepping back in time and possibly to another continent. We always enjoy the food, ethnic drinks, and great service. It's astonishingly easy to get a table and confusing that such a wonderful dining establishment has such low patronage. Go enjoy an authentic meal and the leftovers! Rather disappointing dinner. The burek was overcooked and wasn't the one I ordered. The cheese one served me was totally lacking in flavor. Lamb shank was overpowered by the tomatoes sauce. On the positive side, the Serbian tomato salad was fantastic as was the escargot. I'd go back and just have those two things.
