We ordered the fish and it was not good at all. The batter wasn’t very good, and the fish itself was dry with a freezer-burned taste. The coleslaw was also not good. I wouldn’t eat it again.

The Brezel Sticks appetizer was the only decent part of the meal, mostly because of the sauce. Drinks were way too strong to enjoy, and the service felt pushy. Our group was still eating and planning to order more drinks, but the server told us we had to give up our table even though other tables were open.

This place used to have more life when there were pool tables and darts, but now it’s just another spot with food that doesn’t deliver. If you’re in Barneveld, I’d recommend going to the Golden Eagle Bar & Grill instead.

This is less a review than it is a call to action. I went tonight heart set on getting my usual, the always good and reliable hangover burger. Instead I went with the special, the prime rib breakfast skillet. We all got different smash burgers…they were made from a good quality beef, tasted good…but they just weren’t smash burgers…no crust, no char and too thick…not a smash, but still good burger. The curds were great, drinks were good…service was friendly and quick. It’s a great spot to stop for dinner or to meet friends for drinks. The bloody Marys look like a fun adventure. We ordered burgers “medium rare”. Both of our burgers came “well done”, dry and brown. Waitress was very nice and confirmed our burgers did not look “medium rare”. The manager came a few minutes later and was quite rude. A replacement came in another 7-10 minutes later and it was medium at best, again not “medium rare”. Sweet potato fries were great. Fries - not worth it. Pizza is to be avoided. Overall service was very slow.

Came here at recommendation of Bloomingdeals. The place was very clean. I ordered the Ope Burger with the pub chips as a side and some curds. Holy moly, my food came out hot as in piping hot. That had to be the first for me. Burger was very messy and buttery but good. Pub chips were too salty. Curds were decent but a bit overpriced - the ranch sauce was not good but I didn't have any other choice. I was charged $1..99 for the dip with the chips but was told it was extra...$1.99 for 2 tablespoons of dip is kinda high. My server was good. Not sure I'll come back when I'm in town again in a few months.

Well another road trip to this place that came up in my searching that bragged great food throughout it's reviews. So, 1 hour and 38 minutes later we arrived. In this town of somewhere between 1000 and 1500 population. SO, we walk in, nice clean fresh atmosphere, got seated within about 2 minutes. We generally do burgers a first time all around same direct comparisons and we did, WOW, the sweet potato waffle fries are to die for. We actually used the beer cheese dip to dip a few lol. Seriously have to try, a must! A reviewer was so correct in instantly catching the flavor of the beef, again five star. We will continue making this trip. FIVE STAR food, waitress so very pleasant, a MUST place to eat!!!

Stopped here after hiking. When we got there the place have very few people in it, but it did fill up by the time we left. Waitress was good, food timing was very slow. Once the food finally got to us, it was delicious. My bf got the regular cheeseburger, looked juicy, perfectly cooked, and he said the flavor was very good. I got the chicken wrap, it was loaded perfectly, had good flavor, and the herb tortilla was a nice touch. Fries were okay, could've used a little more time in the fryer and more salt. Ive gotten the sweet potato waffle fries and the Ope Burger in the past which were very very good. If you are a ranch fanatic like me, their ranch will be disappointing. Wasnt a fan, but im also very picky on my ranch. Overall food was good, waitress was friendly, would definitely go back and try other things!

The music playing was diverse and interesting. Menu was small but plenty of options. I ordered grilled chicken wrap with side of coleslaw. Took a short drive out to Barneveld today to try out Ope Haus and Grill. Loved the Midwest theme, fun.
I had a burger and fries and my wife had the portabello mushroom tacos with homemade chips.
They offered at no extra charge tomato, onion, lettuce, and pickle slices at no extra charge, served on the side.
Local beef and Hooks cheese for the burger.
Burger was cooked perfectly, medium leaning towards medium rare - perfect.
The fries were good crispy restaurant fare. Their homemade chips were outstanding. Crispy and not standard fare.
The service was prompt, friendly, and knowledgeable. Could have been a little more detailed since it was our first time but no biggy. Such as what are the sauces served on the side and that you pay at the table.
The only real issue for me was the Cumin in the salsa. I detest that flavor. It must be a fad in culinary school or something. It was well balanced in the salsa but I still noticed it. Yuck.
All in all it was a pleasant experience and we will return. Just nick the Cumin.

The Ope! Burger is Burger Perfection! Beef and bacon are First Class and with caramelized onions and cheese curds on a pretzel bun the burger is mouth-watering out-of-this-world delicious. Typical small town bar hub scene. Atmosphere is basic with rough barn wood window trim, bar at center of establishment, low and high top seating options available. Bathrooms are clean and able to be used by multiple occupants. Waiting staff was excellent. Staff are polite, helpful, and fast for ordering. Food, however, was mediocre. I have eaten here a few times with family and friends. Ranging from sandwiches to burgers to fish frys. Food presentation is what is expected at a small town bar restaurant. Fish fry was filling but very basic with simple sides, sandwiches were excellent, and burgers looked good but very greasy. If I'm hungry and in the area, I'll eat here, but I will not travel out of my way just to go to this establishment.

We've eaten here three times now. The first two were good. The third time had the chicken and biscuits dish. It was not good. Chicken shredded so fine it was like shreds of toothpicks, carrots and celery so small they looked like large spices. Gravy had no flavor at all. Much in need of salt and pepper. Biscuits were not fully raised and were heavy and dough like in the center. The whole dish was nothing more than flavored Roux with no substance to bite into. Especially at the price of $15.99. We didn't finish it or take it home. The burger, on the other hand, was great!

What an amazing "Diamond in the rough"! This has been on my list of places to visit since moving to Mount Horeb but hadn't made the drive until tonight... and Wow!

The cheese curds were amazing... the homemade batter was so light and fluffy... I could have eaten these alone all night long. They absolutely did not carry the usual heavy fried feeling a lot of area cheese curds do- it's Wisconsin, you've gotta try them!

This is not to mention the incredible and perfectly cooked burgers; how often when you tell a restaurant you want a medium burger does it not come out well done? This was not a problem at Ope Haus! Had 3 burgers between us, and every one of them was cooked spot on; I can't tell you the last time I've had that happen.

Everything was so perfect; the wait staff was friendly and inviting and offered great recommendations... the food was perfect... there was plenty of elbow room between tables and each other... and the atmosphere is exactly what we were looking for.

I had a Brandy Old Fashioned, the true Wisconsin way and followed it with their Maple Bourbon Old Fashioned and they were absolutely on point.

Didn't see the cornbread on the menu, but were able to add it to our meals since it comes with the salads... hard to find good cornbread up here, but Ope house really has it all.

I wish I could have eaten more... there are so many more things I want to try. We will be back. What are you doing tomorrow?

We had high hopes for this place. It popped up in my news feed with 'best fish fry' something or other. For our first, and unfortunately likely our last, visit we stopped by for a late afternoon burger, just before the bar shift change. Our initial server was lovely -- pleasant, friendly, etc. She made a wonderful cocktail for me.
We ordered our burgers and I settled up with our current server before she left and her replacement arrived.

When our ordered arrived, delivered by new to us server 'Brittany'. I asked for mustard, and we waited as she rustled around the bar preparing for her shift. (I like mustard on my burger, so I waited a bit to dive in). After waiting, I asked "could we get some mustard please?" The reply, yelled from behind the bar "I heard you. I'm all alone here". WOW --- we were both dumbfounded, in awe and speechless. The rude demeanor of this person was like I had never seen before in server. When Brittany arrived with the mustard (a couple squirts in a paper condiment cup) she threw it on the bar toward me. No, I am not exaggerating. Double WOW.

There are no better chicken wings around. Excellent spices and done to perfection. Also not those dinky little things you get at most places. If you want a full meal, these are the ones to get. I have had their wings, Friday fish fry and their most delicious " all the fixins Pizza so far, and will continue to work my way through most of the menu. Love it!!!

Heard about the Bloody Mary’s so came to try them. They were fabulous! Mix is made in house and just the right amount of spice. Never expected such a great food menu too! We all loved our meals. The fried chicken is the best I ever had (had it on a Ceasar Salad). Friends loved their burgers too. Staff super friendly and fun. Great atmosphere. We will be back!

BEST BURGER I’VE HAD! You gotta go if you’re in the area. Food is incredible and honestly, great for people with high blood pressure because the food doesn’t have much salt. Don’t let that fool you it is flavorful as hell. Sundae as a dessert was good too.

Great food, amazing staff! I rented the party room at the Ope Haus for a surprise 40th birthday party for my boyfriend right before Christmas. Taylor and her team went above and beyond in helping me plan and set up the party - and they even played a part in tricking my boyfriend for the surprise! The food was delicious, and they're so easy to work with. True Midwestern hospitality with the best people around. Thank you, Ope Haus!

Great find! Saw a sign on the road near Barneveld for this place on our way to House on the Rock. We had a mushroom burger, Opie burger and buttered noodles. All excellent! Lots of tvs. Booths, tables and nice-looking bar area. Service was excellent as well.

To start the food has always been good, however, today's visit was extraordinary. We locked our keys in the car and were stranded there hours from home with our young puppy in the cold. Every person working there today went above and beyond to do everything to help. Even the patrons who called their friend who came and unlocked our vehicle for us. We have been here several times since they opened, both as a couple and with our adult children and grandchild. This place is always awesome!
If you have a choice, get seated in Brandi's area. She's an amazing server, is very detail-oriented, knows the menu like the back of her hand, and has a great memory!
Since they've opened, we've had the poutine, gouda mac bites, Ope burger, Jam it all burger, Mushroom Scansin Swiss burger, You Betcha burger, their walleye & cod fish fry dinners, a couple of salads, several specials, and more desserts than I care to think about. Their food is always delicious and arrives quickly and hot. They make an excellent Old Fashioned, as you would expect.
We have dined here many times, and will be back many more.
NOTE: If you intend to listen to the TouchTunes system, sit at the east end of the restaurant. The volume in the west end, where most of the seating is, is intentionally low so diners can talk to each other without yelling over music.

Disappointed, we had great service at first and then after ordering a couple drinks our server decided to ask for IDS. Like you already served us several drinks and food… we were there from 11-1 why ask now? Should’ve asked us in the beginning in my opinion… is it not common to have more then a couple drinks within a a couple hours?! We are from wisconsin 😂

We had a great lunch with family on a Sunday afternoon. The menu has plenty of great options for everyone, and we all enjoyed our meals. The service was friendly and efficient, and the atmosphere is relaxed. We sat on the patio which was pleasant. This was a great restaurant option near Governor Dodge State Park!
