I was led here by a coupon for a free gyro and I hope in every timeline I find that coupon. The aesthetics were spectacular. I was greeted by a warm employee and a Greek statue, pictured below. There was an optional (hidden) virtual tour, and an upstairs roof garden that stunned me. The walls were clad in Greek memorobilia, and I felt at home in some steamy Aegen beach. The food was fantastic, certainly worth the price. For a restaurant within a "Raising Cane's" or "Healthy Fastfood" priceline, or even a somewhat upscale diner, "Parthenon Gyros" excels.

Was craving gyros and saw this place was close by, thought I’d give it a try. I got the “freaky greek” sandwich, which was pitched to me as 6oz of gyro meat (compared to the regular gyro sandwich which had 4oz) as well as 2 chicken skewers on top (which the “mega” gyro sandwich doesn’t have). Sweet. $19 total.

The vibe itself is pretty cool. The workers are friendly and the place is clean. The patio seating upstairs is beautiful and is great for people watching on the street. There’s a street level patio too, but I highly recommend you sit upstairs… much nicer and secluded.

The sandwich itself was SUPER mid. Probably Sysco or other large food distributor. The gyro meat didn’t really have the consistency or thickness of gyro meat… it was more like the shredded flank you’d find in a Philly cheesesteak? Idk, was just super dry. The chicken skewers were a bit juicier but again, probably from the back of a freezer truck.

All in all, it’s a decent med spot by campus with good vibes. $19 definitely got a lot of sandwich, which I was content with, but I’d personally rather pay almost $20 for a sandwich, fries, and a drink like at other places…. Allows for a change of flavor as eventually the dryness of the sandwich gets old here.

Glad I tried it, would recommend if someone’s in the area and down bad for some Mediterranean food. Probably won’t go again myself.

It's been awhile since I've eaten here. I work downtown and a gyro sounded good. The service was considerbly slower. This was at 12:30 pm and there didn't appear to be anyone ahead of me. The gyro had a few thin slices of onion and a sparingly amount of Tzatziki sauce. The Parthenon use to have the best gyros, but not lately.

Since 1987 I been grabbing a gyro, fries, Pepsi and side of ketchup. My bandmate Joel always ordered extra-meat.

Today, famished from a musical production, my daughter(new bandmate) and I excitedly hurried down State Street after first parking in a city parking ramp.

Sure, we got distracted by the dresses in Princess Of India. It was there when I finally bought myself a formal having never once attended a prom of any kind that I realized my debit card was missing.

My son had already lost my Visa Wednesday at the Union so this card was my last plastic. Gratefully Abdul of Princess of India accepted my Venmo which was a good thing as he had to personally phone me that my daughter had left her hat.

All that running around accerbated our hunger and Man, were we ready to order.

We stopped short at the door reading the fateful words: WE ARE CASHLESS.

No Venmo. Just cards.

I tried to negotiate for food like a smooth criminal, but no dice.

Thankfully my son showed with the card and we got our grub.

I’m super-confused by this company policy change. Workers didn’t seem like they were actually Greek either. Something about the way they said, not called out “O-PAH” after my left tip.

Went to college in Madison back in the day and going to the Parthenon was always a treat. We would be met be older gentlemen with thick Greek accents. The gyros were always the best.

The wife and I went there the other day for lunch. What a disappointment! The service was slow and the gyro was horrible. Probably the worst gyro we've ever eaten. The gyro meet and the tzatziki had no flavor. It was like the meat was boiled. The sandwich had a mountain of onions and one little slice of tomato. It was like a boiled ground beef and onion sandwich.

On a positive note, the French fries were excellent, but we didn't go there for the French fries!

This was our first time here. We have fairly high standards for gyros and this place does not disappoint. The atmosphere is fun with greek head busts and fun posters all around. Self serve. Food is amazing, get the Greek fries! They're covered in a wonderful lemony herb and feta cheese. The gyros are delicious. I've only tried the traditional. I'm not a huge fan of their baklava, but I have high expectations. It's very sweet and a bit chewier than what I'm used to and prefer. All in all, this place is awesome and you shouldn't hesitate to give it a try. If the weather allows, sit on the roof! There are small and large tables and the atmosphere is very lovely.

The place is not bad based on the US standards, but based on Greek and/or European standards, it definitely lacks a lot of aspects:
- tzatziki sauce is definitely prepared in a commercial way retaining just a similar taste to original one
- gyros meat is not as juicy as it should be
- onions do not have the onion taste
- Greek salad also has many concerns…

I had to try Greek cuisine in honor of my GOATed professor, Professor Mavrikakis. Greek food and Parthenon Gyros were absolutely GOATed. The portions for the price were incredible, and I was so busy enjoying the meal that all I managed to snap was a picture of some half-eaten fries. Gotta love Greek food and Greek professors. Highly recommend this place and taking kinetics courses taught by Professor Mavrikakis. 🤓🐐

Pros: The decor is nice, service was fast and there is plenty of seating.

Cons: The gyro was cold, bland and stingy. It did not even come with lettuce or cucumber, just three cold tomato slices and a small amount of barely seasoned meat. The tzatziki sauce was so bland and did not have any dill in it. It was basically sour cream and the whole gyro was smothered in it to make up for the lack of flavour and fillings. The pita was so dry and chewy that I had to cut it with a knife. Everything about it was so bad that I can only assume that the high ratings are from people who have never seen a gyro before.

Also the entire restaurant is full of blaring Greek pop from overhead speakers, which makes it hard to have a conversation and enjoy your meal.

Last two trips were disappointing and family used to love this place as several of us have went to college at uw
Madison. After ordering we were told the place closes in seven minutes….meaning we had to leave by then. So had to carry the food out into the cold. If we can’t sit in a restaurant to eat what we have paid good money for then don’t take our order. I don’t think this is the norm at other places but it apparently is here. Two visits ago we arrived at about 9 42 pm but service was slow so were rushed. Yesterday we ordered at 5 50. Disappointing as we didn’t realize they were closing at 6 pm

Watch your receipts. They only accept credit cards. I left a monetary tip in the tip jar, but the computer automatically charged me for a tip anyway. Had the worker "correct" it, but the higher charge was all that showed up on my credit card account. I've been going to the Parthanon since it opened in 1972. Great place. I’ve been to this establishment more than a few times and I’ve always paid for my food and left no issue. Today 10/5/24 around 2:20pm I go there. I order a gyro plate with hot peppers on the side and a cheese sauce on the side as well. It came up too $20 and some change I believe. I tapped my card on the card reader and the guy behind the counter said only a portion was paid. I thought that was weird because I know that I had more than enough to pay for my meal. I told him I was going to step outside since I wasn’t getting any internet service in the building. I went outside and was finally able to log into my bank account and I see that I had two pending changes from Parthenon for $3 and come change and the other one was $20.94. I got back inside and wait in line. When it was finally my turn i noticed the guy who took my order was no longer there. It was a girl taking orders now . I asked her if my payment went through because in my account it’s showing that it’s pending. She said no only a certain amount went through and that we could cancel my whole order and I said OK let’s go ahead and cancel it. I asked her for a receipt to prove that the order was canceled and she was unable to give me one since she canceled it in their system I guess. So I left with the money still saying it’s pending To be taken out in my bank account. I called Parthenon to talk to a manager and the manager who I spoke with was very rude and basically just told me to wait for it to not say pending in my account because they can’t do anything about it right now. Then he hung up in my face . It’s safe to say that I will never be going back there again. They lost my business forever.

I'm from Milwaukee and we love our Oakland Gyro, however when I tell you this place blew them out the water. The gyro meat was seasoned and flavorful. We visited on a Saturday night. It was a quick walk from the Comedy club.

The free refills were a plus. The fries were hot the entire time I was eating them. They were not over cooked and seasoned just right.

Sometimes at gyro places the tiziki sauce is too watery. The consistency and taste of their sauce was spot on. I can't wait to go back to Madison for something I'm stopping here. I recommend 10 out of 10.
