Wow, this place has truly done a complete 180! Seems like they either revamped their cooking style or got new cooks, lol. Food was prompt, hot, fresh and very tasty for this area. The Gen Tso chicken was tender but could use more heat which I’ll request next visit. Adored the crab rangoony & egg rolls. This place has a great atmosphere with awesome decore and really neat looking furniture as well as a really nice looking bar with a selection of different drinks and cocktails to choose from, which is what makes it worth checking out, but I have to say the food wasn't quite as fancy as I was hoping, as it was on par with any take out Chinese place in the area with the exception that they incorporated tomatoes into my Hawaiian chicken which is pretty much sweet and sour chicken, but the tomatoes gave it a very nice clean finish vs. most take out places, but otherwise this is more of a place to go to really see the old school architecture and enjoy the environment of a finner dinning place, definitely a place to bring a date or something for a night to remember and they have larger portions so you'll probably have some food the next day! So, if you're in the area and want to go back in time for a bit and see old school wausau and enjoy a quiet meal with your partner there your place, but be warned the food is on par for more common Chinese food, or at least what my party had, but there definitely worth a look at least once on your life

Crab Rangoon is good. Three of us had entrees, Strawberry chicken, General Taos, and a beef dish. I thought they were just ok. Not much flavor. A communal bowl of plain white rice. The Mojiotos are trash. I first got a pineapple mojito, tasted like great value pineapple soda, only. Then tried the strawberry, not much better. Couldn’t taste rum at all. Our bill for three people was $150…. Which I did not feel was worth it. The atmosphere is the coolest part of the place.

I have been in central Wisconsin for 25 years and I can’t believe nobody ever told me about this restaurant. It’s fantastic. It’s classy looking, very relaxing, the food was great. My wife ordered egg foo yong and I thought why did she order three soggy patties like you usually get in a Chinese restaurant? It was nothing like that. They were very tasty pies.

Usually Crab Rangoon is greasy fried dough with a little filling in it. This Crab Rangoon was delicious. The appetizers were all lightly breaded, and no greasy taste to the fried food. The waitress recommended I try the garlic ginger chicken, and it was delicious.

I will be back as much as possible. I love this restaurant.

We went back tonight. Food was excellent. I really enjoyed our waitress Kristin. She was witty and efficient. Unlike many waitresses she made actual food recommendations, which I appreciate. She heard my wife toast my birthday and brought a delicious, unsolicited birthday dessert. Thank you.

It was cold outside and was uncomfortably cold sitting at our table and it didn't warm up the whole time we were there. The music playing was too loud, l couldn't hear one of my dining companions, l asked if it could be turned down, and it was.
We had a lot of questions about various dishes which the menu didn't tell us.I ordered the Pork Shanghai which turned out to be basically a noodle dish and not much else. I wouldn't have ordered it if l'd known
Then, when my companions had finished eating but l had not, the waitress cleared their plates, packaged up their leftovers and brought the bill.....while l was still eating! Absolutely unacceptable.
I've been to The Peking many times before and never had such a negative experience.
Last night they needed to turn up the heat, give better meal descriptions on the menu, teach that waitperson the art of waiting table and lastly, put up a sign where the toilet facilities are ....

My son and I had the pleasure of dining here last night and my goodness, I have never seen portions this large at any restaurant in my life. The food was excellent. Service was excellent. The atmosphere of this enchanting restaurant all decorated for Christmas was stunning. The Landmark building established in 1926, I believe, is evidenced everywhere. To my delight, the marble stairway entering the Peking Restaurant was heartwarming to see. I highly recommend this beautiful establishment. We had a customized pork fried rice due to dietary restrictions. It was perfect. Our main entrees were Shrimp and Snow Peas and a Beef with steamed rice dinner, also perfect. We had to take boxes of food home because they give you so much food.

I have to start off by saying that the food was very good. With that said as far as the waiter we had left a lot to be desired. I will call him out his name was Scott. He seemed very confused at times. He also knew we were there for my birthday dinner and was less than attentive to our table. When he took the order for our table he didn’t even get it right and left the birthday lady without food. When the food came out I asked where my order was and he said he made a mistake and would put the order for me in now. We had to ask another waitress for water when she checked on us more than our waiter. All I know her by was her blue hair. Thank you miss. Scott asked if we wanted dessert since another employee named Mikie was paying anyway. To our table this seemed rude. We replyed by saying no we had brought in a birthday cake. He then asked whose birthday was it. He then took our dishes away. When the cake finally came out we had to ask that person Mikie for plates and silverware. The buss person needs to get longer shirts. During our entire meal he had exposed his underwear band and skin while he worked. It was not pretty to see. Like I said the food was good but the dining staff needs to be trained in manners and proper etiquette for the public in a restaurant.

Was looking for some Chinese food here in Wausus, ended up finding this place. They appeared to have the types of food we wanted. I ordered, followed the GPS and was amazed at the place I walked into. It was like an old fashion lounge huge ceilings and cozy atmosphere.

That was the only good part of the experience. I was charged 120$ for some apps and 2 dinners. Blew my mind, I was looking for some take out... I figured, well costing that much I bet it will taste good. Boy, was I wrong. So I leave, get to my apartment and lift up the bag with my food, I notice the bottom is wet, and there is soup leaking out. Some genius packaged the 2 hot soups in plastic containers at the BOTTOM of my paper back the with entrees in them. After cleaning my truck I went in to try the food. It was terrible. The fried rice was soooo bland that I ended up adding my own salt and soy sauce just to make it edible. There crab rangoon... I think it has mustard in it? Either way, 2 orders and ZERO sweet and sour sauce. I didn't realize I had to ask for sweet and sour when ordering the most basic of appetizer. The egg drop soup had way to much corn starch in it, that or it had been there all day getting old. Egg rolls were all cracked causing excessive amounts of oil from the fryer to get into them. Overall it was the most overpriced and underwhelming experience I have ever had. Panda Express is better than this place.

We wanted to do something special and we'd heard great things. Filled out their entire online booking form and got the "Thanks for contacting us page". We recieved a "reservation request received" email and then absolutely no contact for 3 days. Called the day before to confirm the reservation and they didn't have anything reserved for us. They were full and couldn't accommodate. We understand that you can only accommodate so many reservations but the very LEAST you can do if you offer an online booking portal is to follow through when requests can't be accommodated. We would have loved to try this place but have no interest now. Don't try to book your reservation online!

Never been here ever after 28 years in Wausau. Wausau has few gems and this one is an Infinity Gem among them.

This place is a must have bucket list level event. The atmosphere is divine. A museum of beautiful antiquity and high society. Stimulating the artist within. I went in underdressed and never once treated badly for it. The rest of the patrons were top notch. Civil, non judgemental, and very friendly. Good people.

My server, Scott, is a man of many talents. More entertainer, part therapist, and excellent server. Scott made our night from greeting till final bill. The service alone makes this place.

The food was 5 star... a ten star review is not enough. The ingredients fresh, perfectly cooked, and done with artist level flair. This place rivals my experiences in New York, Florida, and San Diego. It is a national level experience.

The Strawberry Chicken was the best... to the owners and staff. Yes... more please. Those rangoons were heaven. Next level. Worth every penny.

The Bar was another level of class... a must have.

The service was good, food was ok, but we parked in the back in a spot clearly marked Peking and not clearly marked private parking and got a $20 parking ticket! Left a sour taste in our mouths. The policeman had not yet written the ticket when we came out but the toothless parking lot 'guard' kept yelling "he (Peking owner) told me to call the police". The policeman looked at the Peking sign but continued to write the ticket. Signage would be good. We will never step foot into the place again. The restrooms were outside and in the basement! The smell of smoke permiated the dining room. Ugg.

DONT GO!!! Egg rolls were straight out of a box from the freezer, I have been cooking a long time and I know frozen pre-made food when I taste it. This place has no business pretending to be an upscale Asian Restaurant, the prices are a joke! I’ve had twice as good food for half the price. The egg drop soup was a disgrace to what egg drop soup should be, I’ve eaten at hundreds of Asian restaurants and never seen anything like it. I mean who charges for the option of fried rice with your entree when you’re already paying a premium price around $5 higher than any other place!? $3 for a soda!! This is a go-to place for special occasions for us. My wife loves asian food, but I hate restaurants with questionable cleanliness. That means this is about the only option in the area that we can agree on. (Sorry for the rude comment about the other asian restaurants in the northwoods). I always find the food here outstandingly good. It has the atmosphere of a somewhat formal, classy American restaurant. But it has spicy asian cuisine (the level of spicy heat can be chosen by the customer - mild is certainly available). The lack of visible asian-american employees might cause some to question the authenticity of the cuisine. I just consider the atmosphere to be top-notch and the food to be top-quality.

Not worth the price. Disappointing portions. Veggies in all our dishes were overcooked to limpness. I ordered beef curry and got bland stir fry with beef that had been lightly seasoned with curry powder prior to being mixed in and no other spicing in the entire dish, and the sauce was flavorless. Friend's honey chicken was so salty she couldn't finish it. All of our dishes were swimming in watery sauce. Food was mediocre at best. You could get the same stuff better literally anywhere else in town for cheaper.

The experience my family and I had wasn't that great. This was our first time there. I've heard great things about this place but honestly, I think this restaurant is a little overrated. When we arrived, we had to wait a little while for a table to be available which was fine but when it was available, the manager didn't let us know right away considering she forgot so we were just sitting there waiting to be seated. The food came out pretty quick but the waitor seemed to forget a lot of our food. They also seemed totally understaffed as they only had one waitor so the service could've been better if they had more staff. The food wasn't that great. I was not impressed at all. Also, for how overpriced they are, I expected so much more of the quality of the food. I could've gone to Shanghai Grill or Chang Garden and it would've been so much better. I don't think I would consider going there again.

This was by far the worst Chinese experience I've ever had. The soups (egg drop and hot and sour) were both terrible. Upon arrival we both ordered drinks, which were not delivered until we were almost finished eating. The cashew chicken was terribly bland and the shrimp appetizer was also very nasty. The water was definitely city tap water and the seating was terrible...never will patronize this restaurant again...

I lived in Wausau for several years, and when I moved away the one thing I missed most was Peking! I've been there over thirty times in the past 15 years (visiting the in-laws, last visit 3 weeks ago), and I always order the same thing-- Cantonese Beef, egg rolls and an order of pot stickers (my reasoning is when you find something perfect there's no reason to experiment). My wife and father-in-law love the General's, while my dad loved the Chicken and strawberries. I can put food away, but there is always something left over to take home. Love the classic old-time fine dining atmoshphere. Oh, and the hot mustard is really amazing... but be careful, it'll clear your sinuses!

I went to Peking for the first time approx 6 weeks ago, I ordered cashew chicken and an egg roll to go; all I can say is the cashew chicken tasted like a stale rice cake, no flavor whatsoever =c the best part of this expensive take out order was the egg roll. Wont be revisiting anytime soon if at all, maybe its just the chicken dish that was awful, who knows, the restaurant is beautiful and the service is wonderful though.
