Tonight was our second time eating here. First time, everything was delicious. So tonight, we ordered the same meals. I had water and my glass was empty for about 20 minutes before our waitress came over to refill it. We waited a very long time for our food. When we finally got our food, my brisket was almost all fat. I tried a bite from two different pieces and they were equally bad, so I was done. Told the waitress and she said she'd talk to the kitchen. She asked if I wanted something different, but I didn't want to wait another hour. The table behind us arrived after we did, and their food took quite a while as well. The manager came over to their table and comped their entire meal. We had already been there for 2 hours. I was very disappointed after driving an hour and looking forward to going again. We won't return.

The Pink Heifer Saloon & Smokehouse was a super cool experience. We really enjoyed the atmosphere. The jail cell tables are amazing.
We were hoping for Prime Rib. We didn’t know it is only served the 4th Saturday of the month and you definitely need reservations. Good to know!
Ben had the brisket egg rolls. He liked them. The chicken tortilla soup was really good. We both had brisket and we were happy. It was tender and had great flavor. The Mac & Cheese wasn’t our favorite.
The food came out super fast. That’s a great thing and much appreciated but it did have a pre-made feel verses being fresh. Nothing was piping hot just luke warm.
We will definitely back and give the prime rib a try.

1st visit here yesterday, restaurant is very nicely designed: has "theme" but not overdone or kitschy. Wait & bar staff so nice! Party of four and got a taste of "almost everything on the menu" via the Small Family Platter with brisket burnt ends added. 10/10 for every bite! Desserts were excellent as well. Am now planning a party of 8 for next month.

Three of us went to Pink Heifer for dinner. It was my first time as it is a 45 minute drive from Fitchburg. It was definitely good enough to go back!
I had the Wagon Rolls from the appetizer menu for my meal and requested a "side" of cole slaw. My daughter had the special contest hamburger and a side salad and my husband had a pulled pork platter with garlic mashed potatoes and slaw and corn bread. For dessert he and my daughter shared carrot cake. My daughter and husband said their meals were really, really good. My husband's plate had enough on it that two people could have shared. He took half home with him. My daughter's side salad was much larger than you normally get in a restaurant.
The wagon wheels are egg rolls stuffed with BBQ brisket and Wisconsin cheese. I LOVED them. They were twice the size I expected and I brought three of the four home. The cole slaw was ridiculous in size. It would have served four very hungry people. It was $4.50. I assumed it would be a single serving side for around $2.00. That was my only disappointment. The carrot cake was obviously not something made in house and, while good, was very rich
The menu has so many enticing options that I can't wait to go back and try. Our server was friendly and helpful when I asked advice. I wish the Pink Heifer was located in Fitchburg as I would go often.

Atmosphere: 2/5 it was noisy. The piano is loud. Great music but loud, can't have a conversation with anyone. Service: 5/5 fabulous service! kind and friendly. Food: 4/5 the beer batter fish has a different taste probably the Guinness beer 3/5 for fish. Fries were good huge chunky fries. Lots of them. They give u a lot a tad bit dry 4/5 for the fries. Cowboy beans were super good! 5/5 cowboy beans.

Pink Heifer Saloon & Smokehouse- 149 N. Main Monticello Wisconsin- This is a Saloon Decor and atmosphere. I was skeptical when I was told that it was amazing, I was surprised when it was. So, a Dodge city saloon with Amber, that I call Kitty. She was very much putting up with my jokes and feeding it back.
Food: The Brisket plate- Slaw tasted like the grass in the yard. The Cowboy beans were excellent. Brisket was more than tender, and delish. Melt in mouth served with a little sauce on it. The brisket was #3 of the best I’ve ever had.
Service: again perfect timing, and perfect personality.
Place: you expect Matt Dillon to walk in at the last second telling a bad guy to hold it, and hand over that gun. They have an event room like a jail. The back bar that any one would love to see a guy named Sam serving whiskey in front of it.
The owner cam out and spent too much time talking to us, that’s a good thing. Again Amber was stop on timing and personality.
My rating: 8.3, solid “A”. If you do not go you will be missing out.

We visited Pink Heifer last Thursday, 5/15/2025. Ordered drinks, and food for eight people. We love the smoked meats and many of us ordered ribs. When owner, Bob, found out he had a special takeout that used up all the ribs he had, he came to our table. He explained what happened, apologized several times, and then proceeded to comp our entire meal with all drinks included. He served samples of everything smoked with sides, to our whole group. He went above and beyond to make us satisfied. I will definitely go back! I encourage anyone who sees this to check out Bob and his staff at Pink Heifer in Monticello, Wi. Needless to say, we left a huge tip, greatly deserved.

The food tasted good. But we both ordered Rueben sandwiches. There was no sauerkraut (had to have some brought to the table) & no swiss cheese at all. One of us ordered the thousand island on the side, but we both got it on the side. I ordered a side salad instead of potato wedges, my friend ordered potato pancakes intead of wedges. We both got wedges and no other ordered sides. The waitress was good but it just seemed like the cook couldn't read & the waitress couldn't remember what she wrote. Sorry for the length of this but there were just so many failures. I would give it another chance but if it's the same experience, I won't go back a 3rd time.
**Please note that the owner got back to me to discuss what happened. He has given me a very nice gift card so I can try their food and service again. I so much appreciate good customer service!

Went for the Mother's Day brunch. Food was good. Except need more potatoe choices than just cubed. Prime rib was not cooked enough. Better homemade desserts than stuff bought from Sam's club. Also need more plates or just use high quality throw aways. Kept running out of clean plates and silverware. Maybe more help. Not worth the price.

Morgan was absolutely amazing!!! Came up to us and greeted right away and was "Johnny on the Spot" the whole night.
This was after she told us that they had run out of some things and hoped that we would understand.
The contest burger was really good, but that mac and cheese is absolute 🔥!!!!
Service was absolutely impeccable even though y'all were busy as hell!!!
Peyton did a great job behind the bar as well.

We were a party of two and visited on Thursday night at 6:30 for the Green County Burger (only to find out later they didn’t have the ingredients for it). There were 5 tables full and 8 people at the bar. We stood unacknowledged for 10 minutes even though a girl was reading and ignored us. When we asked if we should just sit anywhere and she told us to wait bcuz the waitress was busy. 5 minutes later she lifted her head from what she was reading and decided to seat us. Another 10 minutes later our waitress appeared. We ordered the brisket burnt ends sandwich and the brisket mac n cheese and a glass of red and white wine. Our food arrived within 10 minutes and was good but not something I would brag about. The waitress came back 3 times asking if she could get us anything else and we replied each time Wine. We finally got our drinks when we were almost finished eating. The experience was disappointing, there was no acknowledgement for the snafu. We won’t be returning.

My goodness, where do I start?!? We ordered 4lbs of Brisket for our Easter gathering, and it was simply the best, moist, tender brisket we have had since we moved to IL from Texas 8 years ago! Why we haven't found you sooner is beyond me, but I'm sure glad we found you guys!! Y'all definitely give that Texas Brisket a run for the money!! Nice job!! Every one of our guests loved the tasty Brisket! Thank you guys also for opening on Easter for carry-out orders!! You definitely made this mommas life easier on Easter Sunday! Let me start off with that I never leave a bad review because I am a pretty understanding person…
We were really looking forward to The Pink Heifer and made a special trip—driving over an hour for what we hoped would be a great dinner with friends. I followed the instructions online and left a voicemail to make a reservation, then texted the number provided. I even got a response confirming we were “all set”. When we arrived 20 minutes early for the reservation time we had set up previously during the day (we were going to get a drink at the bar till our table was ready), they claimed we had no reservation. I showed them the text confirming it, and she shrugged her shoulders and brushed it off saying someone had “stretched out” my reservation— they were not apologetic what so ever. They could tell we were frustrated as I kept mentioning and showing the text that I got a reply back saying we were all set.
We waited at the bar for quite a while without even being acknowledged. The bartender never looked our way or said a single word. It was very unwelcoming.
Eventually, a nicer lady got us seated, but no one came to our table after and again no one even acknowledged us. I had to get up to ask if someone was going to get us menus and our drink & food order. When our server finally showed up, she got our drink order then finally after another 5-10 min she came back and then we were told they were out of brisket— and among other items on their menu that they’re supposedly known for and the entire reason we chose this place for a rare double date night out, after getting sitters for our kids, making the drive and waiting 40 minutes to even sit us, give us menus and take our drink order it was really starting to ruin our evening out.
This was a complete letdown from start to finish. Communication was poor, service was uninviting, and multiple items we came for wasn’t even available.
Like I said I feel we are a pretty understanding group but this was honestly the worst customer service we have experienced, while the space is a great atmosphere and looks like a great place to have a nice date night out with friends the service needs better training and communication. I do hope making a review will be able to help this not happen again.

The food is ok. The waitress punching a Don Julio 1942 into her tablet when you order a Jose Cuervo and sprite is not. Not having José is fine. Plugging the "equivalent" as their most expensive is not.. She never said the tequila model, just brand. The shift manager mixing a $45 shot of tequila with sprite is not ok. Refusing to adjust the bill because of what the young waitress punched in her tablet is unacceptable. Never again. My drink was $5.50. Her drink was the same cost of the two meals when we asked for whatever tequila because they didn't serve Jose Cuervo.

We visited this evening (Saturday) around 8:15 PM with my son and his three friends after his birthday trip to Tyrol. The staff seemed overly focused on closing the kitchen promptly at 9 PM, which made the service feel rushed and inattentive. The kids’ platter was good but mostly cold. Unfortunately, my boyfriend and I never received our meals (Prime Rib & Caesar Salad). By the time the kids finished eating, our waitress finally returned, and I asked for the bill since we hadn’t received our food. She simply said, "OK," quickly processed the payment, and we left. It felt like the staff were more eager to close up than to provide good service and completely overlooked our meals. While this may have been a one-time occurrence, it left us extremely disappointed, and we won’t be returning.

Fantastic!!! I had the half-smoked chicken with two sides but I should have stuck with my original plan of ordering the half smoked chicken with a dinner salad. Not because the food was not delicious because it was out of this world but because that was too much food for my belly LOL the cowboy beans were packed with brisket, and my Mac and cheese was so smooth. And my smoked chicken was amazing! I did not catch the name of my waitress, I was that intent on my food, but she is a true gem to the business. Checked back in with me frequently on how I was doing and was so very friendly to all the customers. And we had a little music with our dinner

My husband found this place, and we decided to check it out one weekend. The service was great. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. The atmosphere was great, they had live music when we went. The food was delicious. Make sure to order the brisket, its some of the best brisket I have ever had. It makes sense why they sell out of it so quickly. One of the best BBQ places I have had in a while. We will definitely keep this place in our rotation.

I wanna start by saying this was the absolute worst service I’ve ever had in any restaurant I’ve ever been in! We were in town visiting from Chicago, one of our friends is a local and she wanted to take us to this place, she said that there was great food to be had here. It took the server 15 minutes to even take our drink order, She brought the wrong number of waters to our table and proceeded to set them on the corner of our table, so we could pass them out without straws! The servers would not look at you in the face to take your order. After the drink orders it took an additional 20 minutes to come back and take our food order. I actually had to go find the waitress so she would come back and take our food order.. she proceeded to tell me that they were very busy which is not my problem. They were actually not that busy there were about five tables in the restaurant. as a paying customer it is not my problem if your Wate staff is busy or not you are providing a service to me. I do not want to hear how busy you are.! Manager came to our table and proceeded to tell us that when she brings her kids to a restaurant she just tips very well, which had no bearing at all to our problem, it was very cringe. She was actually asking for a tip.! When we finally got our food it was subpar with multiple things missing, the dishwasher actually had to come bring us the items we were missing. Overall, a horrible experience we wanted to visit with our friends and by the time we left, everyone was pissed off! You actually could not pay me to go back into this restaurant. The molten lava cake was cold, dry and crumbly. Worst experience in a restaurant I have ever had. Whoever owns this restaurant needs to hire way better managers so they can at least provide some sort of training to the Wate staff! we were prepared to spend hundreds of dollars here we could not even get a waiter or waitress to come provide us with food and drink!! Hahahah what a joke!!

Highly recommend this place brisket and chicken was juicy and falling apart! Didn’t need a knife to cut anything up. Flavor was absolutely great! They have a Carolina Gold sauce that’s mustard base that I fell in love with 😍. Backed beans, slaw, Mac n cheese, potato pancakes, and corn bread were all on point! The Pink Heifer Saloon and Smokehouse is a gem! The food is absolutely amazing - each dish is bursting with flavor and cooked to perfection. The ambiance is fantastic, offering a cozy and inviting atmosphere that makes you feel right at home. The restaurant is set in a cool old west town, and the decor is on point with an awesome old west looking bar complete with cowhide chairs. The giant banquet hall is perfect for large gatherings and events, adding to the charm and versatility of the place. But what truly sets this place apart is the staff. They are incredibly friendly, attentive, and genuinely care about making your dining experience unforgettable. Had a party of 25 here for my parents 50th anniversary and they did went above and beyond to make that day even more special from my mom and dad !! We will definitely be back! Highly recommend everything on the menu. We had so much food we still have leftovers from last weekend and it’s just as good as when we got it!

A disappointing food experience. The second star is for the atmosphere - neat old building, and the cowhide chairs are very cool. The food / service situation was not. We waited an hour (!) for a plate of burnt ends that were recommended. The meat was hard - (over cooked) with some fat on it but too tough to cut through & chew - and the street corn was average at best, closer to below average. We were warned not to order the mac 'n cheese by some local foodies. Overall: highly disappointing, I felt ripped off. Pink Hef is not a foodie destination as they don't have their Smokehouse meats together. At least not on our recent visit. We wasted $40 on 2 drinks, the 60 minute penalty plate of ends & the side - a terrible value. We won't eat there again.

My wife & I came from Green Bay on a road trip to family and found this smokehouse. I'm an Executive chef by trade and when we ate our food by takeout with family it was awesome and it rivals the BBQ's in Austin Texas. Staff is the best, most likely over worked as that's the way when your that good. I sure hope to use my professional knives again when I try to replicate the best BBQ chicken I've ever eaten! Food is excellent. Service was excellent. Love the vibe. I think you should put a lock on or near the 'Jail' and offer customers a free entre if they can pick it in 5 minutes or less. Maybe even take a picture and put it on a wanted poster. 😃

Morgan was our bartender, waitress and local tour guide for all cool things you can do on and off a gravel bike. We tried to stop in again on the return trip for more delish BBQ but they were not yet open (Sunday). This is always going to be on our stopping list from now on.

I was there on opening night. Sometime after that I had the best ribs I've ever had. Tonight I had them again and they were even better somehow. The slaw is still different than anything I've had. Sides like potato pancakes (latkes) and cowboy beans. A bar with rare bourbons. I'm almost 67 and have been to a lot of places. It's hard to imagine this place is in a town with a third of the people on my last cruise ship. I want to do anything I can to make sure I can go here whenever I can spend such wonderful calories.

Took my wife out to eat on Friday night a few weeks back. Walked in seated our selves at the tables behind the bar. After a solid 10min we finally had someone come over and ask us for drinks. We proceeded to tell them we were ready to order as well. They had fish on special. The waitress told me they sold out of. So I ended up ordering the brisket. 10 to 15 min later some one is seated at the table behind us. The same waitress came out they both ordered fish. I thought weird I swear the waitress said they were out. So I stopped her on the way by and asked if they were out of the fish and she said yes we have sold out of the fish. 45 plus minutes went by and no food to be seen. The owner did notice how long our food was taking came over and told me we could have a drink on the house. Which neither me or my wife drink so a 2$ soda that I already ordered and get free refills was his version of a fix. We proceeded to sit and wait for our food as the people behind us that ordered 15min after us got fish that was supposedly sold out when I asked for it. Ate there food and were leaving and we still had not seen our food. We waited for over an hour and 45minutes before our food came out. I'm not mad at the cook. The food was hot and standard BBQ. I'm mad at the waitress and the owner for not taking proper action and fixing the situation. Yes I still paid full price for my meal. I was really hoping this new place in town was gonna be a great future dining experience to take family and friends when they come to visit. But sadly with service like that. I'm not sure I will return for quite some time and definitely don't plan on recommending it to anyone. This is a wanna be small town establishment trying to cater to people from madison.

We had a birthday party at Pink Heifer with 20 guests. Getting it planned in advance was easy, with great advice provided on food selection. We had a private party room, the food was served timely, and it was so good! The staff was attentive, checking back in regularly throughout the three hours we were there. Took a long time to be waited on. While everyone around us received their orders, we had to request a salad we did not receive, had to ask for a drink that was ordered and not received, had to ask for our tickets to the prime rib dinner after a long wait. One ordered a platter and did not receive one of the sides. It was our first time there and a very poor experience.

The food is delicious. I've been here a few times and have gotten something different. Each meal was tasty. It is a fun, cozy atmosphere with separate dining and bar/dining areas. The staff here is very friendly and attentive. It's worth the trip to experience the heifer.

My first experience here was not at all what I expected after hearing great things. Had a reservation for a Friday night. After drink orders and food ordered that was the end of any service from our waitress. Never once was asked for refills or if we needed anything. One of the members of our party went up to the bar to get us refills on water and soda. She brought our waitess back to our table so we could get refills on our cocktails. They then sat up at the bar until we got up and grabbed them ourselves. Took an hour and 20 minutes for half of our table to get their food and after waiting another 20 minutes and seeing how that half of the table was now done eating, I called our waitress over to cancel my order. No apologies or manager coming to check in. Waitress even failed to see if food that was delivered was okay or if we needed anything else. No dishes cleared away or desserts offered and we had to find our waitess after waiting even longer to get our bills.
I understand a busy night or maybe not enough staff, but the minimal waitress duties of making sure waters are refilled and apologies for such a long wait for food should be addressed.
Also adding on a tip to our bill is one of the reasons why wait staff has no priority to make sure their guests are happy. 18 percent for bad service is substantial.
Hopefully management will address my concerns.

There were 5 tables when we arrived with 3 waitresses. They were out of alot of items. We had to keep changing our order to fit what they had left, mind you it was 6:30pm. I was a bit discouraged by the lack of organizing. Then when we got our food we got served on plastic plates. Is this the normal for this business? Seems quite Waistful to me. If you are serving over 10 people on any open day that seems like throwing money away to me. Buy some real plates and use a dish washer. Also please put all the dishes in the kitchen, not on a table in the dinning area. People could cough or sneeze and spread illness to anyone who touches those dishes. I'm immuno compromised, any illness can hospitalize me. The servers do not get great tips because of lack of kitchen organization and regular menu items. It is not fair to them.

Absolutely wonderful experience. Friendly fast service. The place is amazing looking with a historic feel. Cow Hyde chairs are a nice touch. The custom made cocktails were very tasty and brought a big range of flavor sensations. The sandwich was incredible. Brisk was sliced thick and fall apart tender. The pickles were very nice a mix of sweet and sour. The potato wedges we done perfect, nice crispy exterior and was soft interior. I can't wait for my next visit I really want to try the 1/2 pound smokehouse burger. Worth the drive and time. This place is a hidden gem. Update tried the smokehouse burger and it was delicious. Highly recommend it.

We waited 20 minutes to get a table so that wasn't bad. The waitress took 15 minutes to even say anything to us !! It was busy so I understand. But all you have to say is I will be with you shortly not just ignoring us.
Our cheese curds were good.
My pulled pork sandwich was ok, it lacked flavor. The seasoned fries were really good. My husband had the burnt ends he said they were ok. He also had a half rack of ribs. He took one look and they cut it thru the bone.. who does that? He took a little bite and was very disappointed he couldn't eat any more.

1/3 of my wedges weren't cooked. I had burnt ends and 1/2 rack ribs. I'm sorry but the ribs were cut across the bones diagonally. I couldn't even eat one. Burnt ends were alright. Pickles were the star of the show. Price is higher then willy Nelson. The wait to get seated was as expected for a Friday at 7pm. It was 30 minutes before the waitress came to our table. She took our drink and food order. The wait for our food after that point was embarrassing and not worth it. I have been excited about coming here. I was let down!
