I cannot say enough amazing things about this place. My experience was 20/10. I got the fish special and the honey lemon crusted walleye is the best fish I’ve ever had. Also tried the pb chocolate pie which was to die for. The quality/freshness of the food is perfect and has the best flavors. The service was wonderful and it’s cozy inside. FANTASTIC FOOD, WONDERFUL SERVICE, LOVELY PLACE!!! We have lived in Winona for almost 20 years and this was our first time here. I don’t know how I didn’t know about it! It was awesome! We went with our teenage/grown sons to celebrate our 25th anniversary and we had a wonderful time! The food was amazing. My 16 year old son talks about the duck he had nonstop. He said it was everything he ever imagined and craved in one dish. He said he never had anything like it before. We travel pretty extensively, are adventurous eaters and eat out often at all kinds of places so this is high praise. The crab was better than the place in Lacrosse known for crab. The Salmon Wellington was delicious. My husband LOVED his ribeye. Everything was fantastic. The appetizers, blue cheese soup and the desserts! Our server, Jen, was really great too! Wonderful service! They made our night really special! Thank you!!!!

Always read good reviews so we gave it a shot! I got the stuffed duck meal, $40, and sadly it missed the mark. The duck portion was very small, dry and had 2 large fatty chunks that were inedible. The sweet potato au gratin was undercooked so it had an unpleasant bite. I wasn’t able to eat it. The side of fries was good, salad was basic but fresh and the rolls with butter were also good. The real star of our meal was the cocktails! The Empress 75 was AMAZING! Overall it was decent atmosphere, good service & drinks. I’d go back for drinks!

I picked up 3 carry out meals. Filets (2) and salmon all were very flavorful but..the steaks were ordered med rare. They were more like medium well to medium. They were good but for the price I would have hoped for them to be cooked right. Total price for 3 entrees was $130 so very disappointing.

Wow! How can I give this place 10 stars!
The atmosphere is super. It has a warm, soft feeling. It's an old church that has been beautifully remodeled into an exquisite restaurant.
The service we had was impeccable! From the hostess to the bartender to the server, the best I have had in eons.
The food, wow, the presentation was extraordinary! Just look at the pictures. it's as if we were in an exclusive restaurant in NY. And the flavors were out of this world. My wife had the beef tips that melted in her mouth. I had the prime rib that had an exquisite flavor.
Deserts deserve another compliment all by themselves.
All in all, we had an exceptional time and will be back and would highly recommend this dining experience. Pogreba is definitely a major asset to the La Crosse area!

I stoped in this afternoon to visit a friend of mine. First of, the place is beautiful and relaxing. Second, all of the staff were super friendly and welcoming, especially the bartender Jonathan! I ordered the bacon wrapped cheese curds, which I loved, I just wish that the jalapeno cream cheese that came with it was spicy (but I'm a spicy psycho). I also tried the Tuna Wontons, which had a crispy crunch to them, with fresh pink tuna and a great sauce. I also had a few mocktails, the passion fruit ginger lemonade (so refreshing) and I also requested a mint julip and a mojito (not on the menu) that we're incredible as well. I highly recommend this place!

Husband got prime rib and it was good. We also liked the salad and mashed potatoes and drinks.I ordered the salmon but waiter came back told me they wear out of it so had to ordered something else, I decided on the scallops and shrimp, it was extremely salty. Pogreba has been a favorite of ours for years. It's where we go to treat ourselves on special occasions & we've never been disappointed, until we went there last week to celebrate our anniversary. I ordered the tenderloin tips & my husband ordered a ribeye (our typical order unless London Broil is available). My tips were delicious, very tender, almost too tender. I ordered them well done & they were literally crumbling - I could cut then with a fork. I'm not sure any well-done tenderloin would do that? The gorgonzola cheese sauce was delicious but there was just too much of it. Did I complain? No. Did I eat it? You bet! I'm not about to waste my food, but the cheese sauce was so good, it just didn't need to be so overpowering. My husband's steak was almost 1/3 wasted with grizzle & fat. He normally would eat more of that than the average person, but this was too much. When the waiter came over to collect our plates, he noticed it & mentioned that sometimes ribeyes can be like that. Agreed. To a point. For a $46 ribeye, I would expect more though. This definitely will not deter us from returning, and we will still refer Pogreba to anyone looking for a wonderful dinner experience. I'm just offering some honest feedback from our recent experience.

Best restaurant in the La Crosse area!
Had another spectacular meal here a couple weekends back and have been meaning to get this posted. I even tipped the chef. Have eaten here many times and never been let down.

Fall 2023 Update:
My opinion of this restaurant continues to hold true. Last night Pogrebas Restaurant was kind enough to offer a complimentary prime rib dinner to local veterans. It was a wonderful slice of prime rib done to perfection and complimented by a delicious vegetable medley and perfectly seasoned potatoes. The side salad was superb and the atmosphere was lovely. The best part of the entire experience was the service. It was so nice to be recognized and well taken care of by the Pogrebas staff. Whether it was at the bar or while we enjoyed our meal, the service was impeccable.

My husband and I dined in last night to celebrate our 1st anniversary. We both ordered the crab which was delicious. The cooks did amazing. What we really didn't know until today was that the staff packages up your leftover food and didnt pack the body meat to our crab. So I am very disappointed as that was the lunch plan for today and can't be anymore. I didn't realize we had to check to see if they packed up everything. I am just furious after spending $250 for two plates of food and a couple of drinks why I didn't get all of it back. I work 70 hours/week just to have enough to live with a little extra spending money and this is what happens. It was our second time there and the atmosphere and food was good as always, just still trying to figure out how I'm going to make up for this.

I picked this place to go to with friends because I enjoy the food and atmosphere. I had shrimp and scallops and hubby had Friday fish. Food was good. We went to pay and had a $25 gift card with no expiration date we purchased online several years ago. Manager came over to table and told us we could not use because a) it was too old? 2) that the site we purchase on should have put an expiration date on it even though there was none. She then asked if we found the gift certificate in the back of an old drawer.
She said if "Josh" (is this the owner?)was there he would have really made a big deal. I was horrified. It was so embarrassing to be treated this way. We did not dispute because it was already embarrassing. They said they would take $10 off bill which they did. They mistakenly put our drinks on our friends bill so the drinks were also waived. In all before taxes they waived $26.50. The gift card was $25. So....you embarrassed us over a $25 gift card and ended up comping us more than the gift card. Hope it was worth it. We will not give you business again. It has nothing to do with the gift card and everything to do with the embarrassment caused.

I am trying to remember when I enjoyed better food, service or atmosphere at a restaurant. This place knocks it out of the park for sure! We had before dinner cocktails made and served by true professionals. The wait staff was quick to help with our 1 year old grandson and not a staff person went by without a smile for the little guy. They also very obviously enjoy their jobs and also demonstrated a professional demeanor that was seriously impressive. The food was perfect and excellent. I rarely order soup as I can open a can with the best of them. Here I will always order the soup! My steak was done to perfection. Prime rib was fine but her ribeye was not. The steak was cooked perfectly but left unseasoned and was not a great piece of beef. I’m a butcher and this was a usda choice at best and the bottom side of the grade.in defense of the restaurant, I have seen meat supplier’s cutting corners lately and sending what they have instead of what’s been ordered. Crab cake poppers were ok but tiny. Service was outstanding and the pour of Blanton’s Bourbon was as expected. The garlic mashed potatoes were good but again under seasoned. Peanut butter pie was good but far more dominant in chocolate than peanut butter. Bartender was among the nicest and most positive guys I have experienced.

Wow! I have had Pogreba on my 'want to go' list for a while and it was so worth the wait! We had a dinner reservation for a party of 8 for a friend reunion. I had the Shrimp and Scallops with squid ink linguine (SO COOL and savory). My husband had the Filet Mignon. The 'char-crust' was to die for, and the bites were so tender and flavorful.

The atmosphere here is so welcoming and very romantic; perfect for a date night or a relaxing night with a friend. I seriously love this place. We have told everyone about our experience and will definitely return again and again.

I don't write reviews often, but felt the need to share what a gem this restaurant is. Last weekend I dined at Pogreba with a group of 6 people, and everyone at our table felt that this was the best meal we had every had!! Everything was seasoned and cooked to perfection. We also enjoyed the drink specials and desserts. Expect fine dining prices, but unlike some other fine dining restaurants, Pogreba's entrees include hearty portions, as well as a very good size salad of soup of your choice, and fresh warm rolls with specialty butters. The atmosphere is beautiful. It's warm and elegant; high-end without being stuffy or pretentious. And the service was wonderful. We will definitely be back. If you are in the La Crosse area, and looking for someplace to dine, I'd highly recommend Pogreba!

Hidden gem!
Everything was so delicious! The carb cake popper, the fish fries, the ribeye steak!! OMG those steaks were done to perfection!

The experience started with one of the best bartenders I have ever met. Now being from WISCONSIN that's saying something. The management was extremely accommodating to our needs of not having our party upstairs because of a handicap situation. Our server Ken provided an outstanding and professional job. It's so hard to find good experiences in today's world especially in the service industry. Thank you Pogreba for an amazing experience for our daughters 21st birthday party. Sorry if you are wondering about the food....maybe the best I have had I. The la Crosse area...Kudos and Thank you again.

Had a club meeting in there upper balcony space. Food was excellent and servers took very good care of us. The space was perfect for our meeting.

The atmosphere is stellar and something I did not expect. Service and food was wonderful with a nice diverse menu. A bit of a hidden gem as it is a place you would typically find in a downtown setting but well worth visiting on the north side of town.

I stopped in on a Friday, craving the salmon, not knowing they didn't serve dinner at the bar on weekends. I only found out after I had ordered a drink, so I was somewhat stuck and had to make a meal out of appetizers that weren't nearly as satisfying as their dinners. They really should let people know before they serve them a drink...
