I was a little scared by all the negative reviews, however this restaurant was very pleasant. A friend and I went after the farmers market and sat down around 8:30 pm. The atmosphere was a mix between fine dining and a locker room. It was interesting for sure. I got the smoked salmon kielbasa and it was very good. I also got a drink called bears in the park. It was very light and refreshing. Our server Paul was very kind and attentive. He did a great job.

Had the pleasure of getting drinks here before a wedding. Staff were very friendly and the atmosphere was much more relaxed than I would have expected from such a fancy hotel which was very comforting.

Better make sure you get your order in before 9 or the menu changes and they tell you you can't finish your order with the current menu and it changes to late night mid order and your screwed total BS

Not very impressive. The fried pickles with blueberry cream cheese were not good. The tallow oil was very overwhelming and the cream cheese did not pair well. We asked for ranch and received a not good dill dip. Drinks and food took a very long time and we were the only ones there for lunch. There were some interesting options but everything took so long we couldn't try anything else. The one staff person was nice. One seemed annoyed we were there. Not my cup of tea. The hotel lobby was really cool though.

I frequently travel to Green Bay. Poke is not only convenient, but serves delicious food in healthy portions (best cheese curds in town). The bar has a great selection of beer and spirits. The staff are awesome--Katie, Ryan, Paul, Pam are always accommodating, friendly and fun! When the bar is busy, I've seen nothing but the highest level of professionalism and patience with other guests that I would expect to see at any service-based venue. Well done!

UNBELIEVABLE!!! A JOKE
My best friend, daughter and her best friend all went in for cocktails before our dinner. The bartender, barely a day over 21, decided she did not want to serve us - as she felt we were “ Overserved” Mind you there was NO ONE else in the bar except one other table of 4 people with a puppy -as animal lovers we all said hi. We were in there for over a half an hour and received only a glass of water-after multiple times of request. While six workers stood around talking -finally one of the nice gentleman servers said he would serve us if we came and sat at his table. He explained the bartender felt we were “over-served” as we were talking to a puppy!!!! We had one glass of wine at Captains walk prior to coming in. I did reach out to the manager Pam, who apologized profusely for her staff members unprofessional behavior and said she would set the inexperience new employee straight. I am completely offended. As a healthcare professional in this community, at this type of behavior and disrespectfulness. she offered to buy us a round and appetizers and dinner. I appreciate the effort but have no intention of returning to a place that treats their customers with such disrespect and unprofessionalism. There’s a reason why there establishment is empty.

We had a party of 26, that's alot of people and I'm having that reflect but the food came out so slow by the time the last person got it the first few were done. They gave us drink tickets and made me pass it out then just put all the drinks on the same bill even though I asked to only pay the first round. The food was hit and miss, some dishes people liked others were real dry.

I’m not sure if we just caught them on a bad night. The Hostess was great, we were seated immediately on the far side in a booth. There was a large round table with 6 people and everyone else was on the bar side. We waited for 20 minutes for anyone to acknowledge us. I finally got up and stopped 1 of 2 servers and she said she would let “someone” know we were ready. Admittedly..we were hangry by this point and after another couple minutes, we saw the other server go to the large table and not even look our way.
We eventually went to the hostess, manager comped a round of drinks. Coke in mixed drink was flat, mule was great. Perch was great, fries had a weird spice like nutmeg (?) on it. Had Cashew Chicken salad, with very few cashews but a good amount of chicken, substituted thin spaghetti noodles for udon and a crap ton of sesame seeds. The actual flavor was good though.
Then the check came, we were there close to 2 hrs at this point and just wanted to leave. Server brought check then after 10 minutes, we left cash and dashed. We were tired of waiting to be able to use a card. This did affect the tip greatly. The reason given for the long wait was a “misunderstanding” about who our server was…..when there were only two and we told one we were ready to order. Just didn’t sit well with us for a good reason.

Bartender Dom- had me so interested in the menu and the history of her job - I just started ordering anything she suggested!! My food was on time and fresh and hot - I started with appetizers ( poke rub wings ) and house made ranch dressing-

To order a cheeseburger with house French fries with ketchup—

And yes I added a patty to my burger and made it a double to test the kitchen— and they did NOT DISAPPOINT!!

Fantastic job

Nice bar in the Northland Hotel with a street view of Green Bay. There are booths and tables but we sat at the bar. Friendly bar tenders and numerous specialty drinks. A bit pricey but it is what you would expect in an Autograph hotel.

One of the best places by the river. They have some unique craft beers. I recommend the pork sliders personally. I generally always have katie as my bartender(who is on top of bar orders like butter on toast) and at times eric whos pretty cool. Host Timmy is pretty chipper as well which is why I remembered his name.

Terrible service, sat down at an empty bar, and 5 bartenders gathered on the other side and gossiped. Ignored me until i called out and walked to them. Did not let me know when the kitchen closed, i told them that when i sat down, i was looking for an appetizer. They did not want me there.

Menu was limited to barely anything burgers, sandwiches and deep-fried stuff. Definitely doesn’t take anyone too talented to cook that kind of stuff. Service was slow and it wasn’t even busy. My wings were dry and completely overcooked. So disappointed I used to love this place not anymore. I went there for the salmon, and they weren’t even offering it.

Two weddings going on.... apparently not enough bartenders at either wedding so coming to restaurant for drinks. And even more fun...restaurant bartender and servers are fighting, loud enough for us to hear sitting next to the bar. Only two tables of us and the wait for food is way too ridiculous long. Was here in the spring and it was fabulous. Now..... we won't be back!

We were staying at the hotel and wanted to stop and grab a bite before a concert. After placing our order and waiting about 35 min, we were told they would be starting our order next. I almost didn't leave a review because I hate to leave a review of less than five stars unless a place only deserves one star... And PtB deserves much better than one star, just not a full five. Service was pretty good, especially the manager type woman who checked on us several times. Our server did forget to bring me a drink but at least he didn't charge me for it. My wife and daughter liked their food (the kid's meal of pasta was huge!). I absolutely loved the cole slaw that came with my fish fry (we ate there on a Friday), and the fries were good. The fish, though... It was good, but it was only one piece, which is not what I'm expecting (maybe two! I don't know, but more than one). Also, when I ordered, they had three types of fish to be fried (cod, walleye, and something else), and if you wanted baked or grilled you could get cod that way too. I decided on walleye, which happened to be $6 more than the other but I love it and miss it since I moved to Texas. The fish came... And maybe I forgot what walleye tasted like, but that fried fish tasted like cod, and I've had lots of that since I left Minnesota. When I asked the server about it, he said that it was definitely walleye, and that was the only type of fried fish they had. I didn't want to argue, my family was enjoying themselves, the fish was still good. But here we are anyway. I would probably go back to PtB if I stay at the hotel again, but it's not like I go to Green Bay very often!

I recently dined at Poke the Bear and had a mixed experience that I’d like to share. There were some positive aspects, but a few drawbacks as well. Let me provide a comprehensive overview.

Firstly, I have to acknowledge the excellent service I received at Poke the Bear. The staff was friendly, attentive, and went out of their way to ensure a pleasant dining experience. Their attentiveness truly elevated the overall ambiance of the restaurant.

On the downside, I must mention that the service was a bit slow. It took longer than expected for our orders to arrive, which was a bit frustrating, especially if you’re in a hurry or have time constraints. However, once the food did arrive, the quality was commendable.

Now, onto another aspect of concern—the portions. Unfortunately, I found the portion sizes at Poke the Bear to be quite meager. For those with larger appetites or seeking a more substantial meal, you may find yourself wanting more. This aspect left me feeling slightly unsatisfied, despite the flavors being enjoyable.

Lastly, it’s worth noting that the prices at Poke the Bear are a little on the higher side. While the quality ingredients justify a higher price point to some extent, the combination of small portions and elevated prices may give pause to budget-conscious diners.

In conclusion, my experience at Poke the Bear had its ups and downs. The slow service was a notable drawback, although the excellent customer service and flavorsome dishes did provide some redemption. However, the limited portion sizes and relatively higher prices may not be suitable for everyone. If you’re willing to overlook the slow service and don’t mind smaller portions or slightly higher prices, you may still find enjoyment at Poke the Bear.

Horrible. I see why this place has so many one-star reviews. Walked in to order a beer and a group of “Regulars” were cat calling my friend and offered to buy our round. We hung out for about an hour and ordered a second beer. Decided to close out, and the waitress brought us a check for $16. I gave her my credit card, and she went to run it and I saw a $40 charge come up on my phone. When she came back, I asked about it and she said the “regulars” never offered to buy our round. They had moved the charge back to my credit card without telling me after presenting me with a bill for $16. She asked if I would like to talk to the manager, and I said yes. He came out and never listened to anything we had to say, and kept asking us how many beers we had and was very rude. Obviously not the point and just horrible customer service. Felt like a set up. I will not be back.

As someone who has worked in the industry for 18 years I can say that this was one of the worst experiences I have ever had at a restaurant. I was hesitant leaving such a harsh review as I know it is a relatively new restaurant. The service was okay. The steak frittes... not sure if it is the quality of the steak or the way it's cooked but it was cooked very unevenly. I had ordered it med rare. It was very chewy and a little fatty. It just seemed microwaved and then seared. It may not have been but that's what it tasted like. When I politely told the waiter, he was accommodating and spoke with the cook who offered another. I was over halfway through my meal at this point so I told him I appreciated it but it was pointless. I thanked him for being accommodating. Following this, we heard A LOT of slamming around in the kitchen. Not sure if it's a coincidence but it was loud as we were seated right by the kitchen. The drinks were also terrible. We couldn't even choke them down. When I asked the bar tendera bout the creme de blackberry in the drink I wanted to order, she told me to ask my SERVER?? Anyway, this is actually the first time I have ever left a bad review of any sort so our experience, in fact, was that bad. The person running our food was pretty unfriendly and cut me off when my meal came without the 2 sauces I had asked for and stated to tell my server. This was odd since she was running the food. She couldn't have just grabbed it quick? Just disappointing. Our server was nice and did work with me on having a dairy-free meal which I very much appreciated.

If I could give it less than 1 star I would. The aesthetic is confusing with lockers on the wall and plush leather accents, am I eating in a gym changing room located in a cigar lounge? The first of 3 people who came to our table offered water and when we had a question about a drink she said "ask your waiter". Fair enough but come to find out she was the bartender and could have simply gave an answer instead of seeming rude. When our server did show up, despite the lack of eye contact, he was very accommodating and did seem busy as I didn't see anyone else serving and it took him a while to make it to our table. The 3rd person to show up was running our food to the table, brought us another salad which we already had and when we were missing our additional sauces we ordered just walked away while being told they are missing (just seems like a lack of communication in the restaurant). Our server quick fixed this situation when he came to the table but the steak was terrible and we could not even sip on the "cocktails" as they were that bad. Overall for the price this place just is not worth it, don't waste your time and money.

I do not like to write bad reviews, esp when I know restaurants are struggling so much right now. The experience we had this last Friday at noon was abhorrent. It took over an hour to get our food when we were the only table. the food was made wrong, the rubans had a hot chili sauce instead of thousand island. It was gross. The service was slow, we had to keep finding/asking for our waitress and not our server but the other woman working was rude. This place was such a laughable excuse for hospitality it was cringe worthy to tender payment. Dined on a Tuesday evening. There were four staff milling about trying hard to look busy, no other guests. Ordered one of two entree options. Steak and shrimp. The menu read it came with baby reds and asparagus. I received a steak with french fries, green beans, and no seafood. The staff shrugged it off and said management "forgot to update the menu".

The chili brussel sprouts appetizer almost saved the meal. Delicious. The reason I came. Alas, outgunned in the trenches by pathetic service.

All in all just another boomer/gen-x money pit with less ability to cook and serve quality food than any American BBQ spot. 2.5 out of 10 for the disrespect and clear theft.

Hosting was a bit unprofesssional, but mangagement stepped in a smoothed it over. Very long wait for food on a week day lunch. Took 1.5 hrs to get our meal. Food was just ok. Soft drinks were very watered down. Expected more.

I don’t recommend this place. Waited 20+ minutes for a drink. Bartenders were super slow and inattentive. Waited even longer for our server to come take our order. Portions are small and very overpriced. I get that it’s in a nice hotel but the restaurant does not match the atmosphere. High class restaurants have high class service and food. This was mediocre. Won’t be back. Poked this bear a little too much.

Fun little bar / restaurant inside Hotel Northlands. The staff are very friendly. Walk around inside the building. It is an old historic building with a beautiful lobby just up the stairs from the entrance.

I ordered a double. The drink arrived and looked light by about half, so I asked the waitress. She said it looked small to her too. She said that she asked the bartender if it was under, but they said it wasn't, and that was that. For the price of the drinks... Don't under pour, or even close to it. No one should have to ask.

The place was empty on a Saturday night, and that would be enough not to go back.

Restaraunt week dinner was very good. It was nice to see a chef be a little adventurous and offer things not on the regular menu.

Service was wonderful, safe and attentive.

We will go back to try the regular menu.

This was our 2nd time there. 1st time, the service was not great. The witness was very inattentive. My husband had to go up to the bar for refills on drinks. 2nd time, again the waitress was inattentive (different waitress) never checked on us after she brought our food, the manager noticed our drinks were gone told the witness still waited 15 minutes. Mai Tai was horrible. Food is good but way overpriced. Oh, and we had to swat away fruit flies the whole time. I counted 10 in our booth!

Seemed like a small selection for the menu, price wise it seemed a little high, and the wait staff wasn't really too attentive for being only a couple of customers.

A fantastic footballcentric sports bar that serves as a clever cover for a fine dining experience. You get what you want out of Poke the Bear. If you just want a beer and a burger, they'll hook you up. If you want an elegant cocktail carefully muddled to refresh you while you enjoy fresh locally sourced food prepared by a chef with a worldly mind, that's here, too.

Honestly good food and drinks, even for the price. Service has definitely fallen off, doesn't matter if you're seated at the bar or booth. Bartenders seem oblivious. Maybe we have just caught them on a bad day...like 4 or 5 times in a row.😁

Sat down at the center of the bar, looking to grab an after dinner drink downtown on a Saturday night. We had dirty plates in front of us, which sat there for 20 minutes before we decided to get up and leave. Nobody even acknowledged our presence. Which was a bit odd. Multiple bartenders, multiple hosts, plenty of staff. And.... We were at the center of the bar! Kinda hard to miss. Will never consider going to this place again. This rest of the hotel was phenomenal. But this place, not so much. They definitely 'poked this bear'. Very ironic.

They’ve been open about a week so I’ll give them some credit. Really good food. Atmosphere needs some work but that may just be a product of not being open very long - the place is a little dark and empty. Overall really good for a brand new restaurant!

Edit:
I came back 9 months later and was severely disappointed. The service is not good. We waited 20+ minutes at the host stand with multiple staff members walking by and ignoring us before someone sat us. The menu I was told 9 months ago was a small tester menu for the opening was still in place. It’s very, very sparse. Frankly I’m surprised that they survive with so incredibly few options. The food is pretty decent, but it’s not the restaurant I was hoping it would become.

Got here and there was no hostess. Was told a 30 minute wait over the phone, and there were at least 7 or 8 tables open. The service is bad. Servers are nice, but everyone is running around like chickens with their heads cut off. Their tablet menus are also really confusing. Took me over 15 minutes to get my beer.

Food is solid. Don’t know if it’s worth the hassle though.

Poke the Bear resides near the lobby of the Northland Hotel. We got here at happy hour and the place was really busy. However service was spot on and we were waited on quickly by a friendly and smiling person. I appreciate this place as they make all of their own sauces, dressings, desserts, bread, pickled vegetables...heck, they even make their own sauerkraut! Nothing comes from a can or is off a Cisco truck. Their white bean humus is vegan worthy. The noodle salad (sans chicken by request) was really good. Left me wanting more. The bar prepares drinks from scratch. There were no premixes in sight. But, for me, the star of the show was the Northland amber beer. One of the best beers I've had in a while. This hop flavored nectar is specifically brewed for the Poke the Bear bar. I asked, why the name? The answer was, it's Green Bay and "Antagonize the Chicago Bears" was too long.
Vegetarians will fare well on "snacks: and "shares". Try the soba noodle salad. You can always request no chicken.
A bustling atmosphere (especially during a happy hour), a pleasant venue, well made food made with superior ingredients make this bar and grill a new favorite in Green Bay.

Fries were great. That's were the good news ends. Very limited menu. What they did have (sandwiches mostly) were meh at best. Poke the bear bbq burger is a messy pile of almost everything on the menu. French dip sandwich is mostly bread. Service is slow. No window coverings make half of the tables unusable between noon and sundown. Sooo, won't be returning.
