The course at Portage Country Club was in "okay" shape, and we had a good round of golf.

Service, however, was disappointing. The beverage cart and bar staff weren’t rude—just not personable. Our server Katie was friendly, but we were asked to move tables twice: once for no clear reason, and again because “you’ve been here a long time,” even though we were consistently ordering food and drinks—and plenty of other tables were open.

We were then sent outside and never checked on again. Golf was enjoyable, but the overall hospitality needs improvement.

The employees were great, however the golfers we encountered were not very curious and constantly were way too close and a couple times actually hit past us on the same hole we were trying to do. That drops the stars and I’m not sure I’ll go back because of them.

That said the course does have some interesting holes laid out. The back 9 has at least one hole I’d not be able to do without taking a drop on the far side of a water hazard but that’s a me problem.

The course needs a ranger. A couple came off 18 and jumped ahead of us on one. Very slow play until that couple bailed on hole eight and went back to four. Tank tops and loud music are the norm. Nothing wrong with that, but we are there to golf, not party. Course was in bad shape. On the bright side, the area is very scenic.

Portage Golf Club is a very nice 18 hole course with a mix of challenges for all golfers. From hilly terrain and mature trees, to sand traps and ponds, the course is always fun to play. The fairways, traps, and greens are nicely groomed and in good shape. After the round, it's also nice to catch a beverage and meal at the bar/restaurant on the course geounds. Meals are priced fairly and always very tasty. Our foursome enjoys Portage Golf Club and will go back again!

Greens are terrible and designed like a mini golf course. I’d rather putt in a bunker than the “greens”, it honestly already felt like that though considering there was WAY too much sand on the greens. Hit a nice shot onto the green? No you didn’t. It’s rolling off. Don’t waste 60$ playing here, you’d probably have more fun playing on the range there (which is also questionable).

Brown grass every where which is odd considering the rain weve had. Hard patchy greens weren't fun. Pace of play was ok and had the best bra/bun of the year at the club house. I'd probably play it if I lived next door but wouldn't drive 90 min again to play it.

Nice challenging course at a fair price with a really nice clubhouse overlooking the water that serves adult beverages and food. We drive close to 40 miles to get there with up to 8 guys at least 5 times or more a year to play there.

2nd time playing here and slow there was a group of 6 ahead that had the whole course backed up.
No ranger monitoring pace of play.
The only good thing is the couse is interesting. Lots of people who don't play golf are playing here.
Must be no dress code - player behind us playing in a yellow stained white t shirt. 91 degrees and we saw the bev cart after playing 3 hours.

Portage Golf Club sold off its signature hole and one other for new homes. They threw in two short, no character par threes to make up for it. I think this move really drops the atmosphere of a top tier course to a mediocre one. Avoid Portage Golf Club and try Baraboo! No one likes a sell out.

Met my son at the restaraunt. Beautiful view of Swan lake with a casual atmosphere.
Lunch was a chicken salad sandwich that was crispy and fresh on a cranberry rye. Nicely paired with fries.
My first time golfing in 3 years. At 76 I was challenged to finish, but the greens were in good shape and challenging...
Sand traps were clean, but players were not using brakes that were available. The layout was well designed. So, in spite of my feeble attempt at a game I love the course held me in appreciation of what this game is designed for...I will be back,

We were on track for a 7 hour 18 holes of golf if we didn’t leave after the 11th hole. Manager let 2 groups jump our tee time and slowed us down even more. Obviously no one out there has much of a clue on how to run a golf course. Absolutely pathetic rate of play

We held our son"s graduation party here. Chad and his staff did an excellent job. The food was amazing! The service was outstanding! Chad has put so much time and effort updating the restaurant and it looks great! The deck is a great place for pictures overlooking the lake. You don't have to worry if it rains. Rain or shine your party will be amazing. I highly recommended calling Chad and booking your graduation party or for that matter any party at the Country Club. Thank you Chad and staff for making Sean's graduation party stress free for us and wonderful for everyone that attended. We are extremely pleased and grateful.

Beautiful course, but they need to come up with a different second hole. The greens are the best I have played on for many years. Very fast, true and in amazing condition. I initially thought the small putting green was artificial turf, but it wasn't. All of the regular greens were in the same condition.

Very dissatisfied. Only had a few food's to choose from. Bacon, eggs, sausage, chicken pieces, small Ham slice's and potatoes. You could have a very small piece of overdone prime rib for an additional charge. There were more desserts to choose from then entree's. There is a beautiful view of Swan lake from the dinning room.

I have never been more insulted during a game of golf, while playing at this club. My family and I were enjoying a beautiful day outside playing golf. We had started on hole 10, because there was a men's league going on later that evening. Everyone was playing great until hole 18, where the league had caught up with us and we moved up to hole 1, hoping to get out of the way of the league. We shot off one ball, before a man yelled from his cart " that this was a MEN'S league" and asked who had "sent us out here". Me being a women, it was quite noticeable to them I was not part of the league. Afterwards, he proceed to golf over my tee off, because he shot so far out of bounds that his ball was right in front of hole 1. Overall, I recommend to stay away from this "Club" and head over to Fox Lake, where their golf course is family friendly and doesn't disrespect women.
