1.5 hours of wait to get our food, then waiting around for 15 minutes to get our check processed was not great at all.
Despite being seated at a table right away, It took us only 15 minutes to eat our food yet still spent 2 hours there.

Looks like this is the norm here, so maybe we’d return for the cheese curds only, when in a hurry and have a pre- meal right beforehand.

Edited after seeing owner’s response: it was not a Friday night but Sunday lunch, and we were seated right away.
We will choose not to wait this long for lunch again, but Given the popularity and high Google review of this place surely most people do not mind the wait. Nothing to fret over, it is what it is.

I would advise that if you are in a rush this is not the spot, but if you want a good meal with good company you can’t go wrong. This is one of our favorite places because we haven’t found anything on the menu that we don’t like, our servers are always kind and engaged, and the atmosphere is iconic Wisconsin. I mean what I said about the food, but if you need some direction the Pines Gyro and the schnitzel Sammy are craveable delights. Ribs and fish fry are unbeatable classics. My kids love the pickle pizza, cheese curds, and walleye cheeks, and my son’s go-to is the Tide Wrap.

The parking lot was full, so we were worried we would have to wait, but there were plenty of tables available. The menu looks fantastic and the food we ordered was very good! Our son loved the cheeseburger, my husband is still drooling over that Korean Reuben, and the poke bowl was good... But the tuna wasn't cut well.... There were still some tendons on the tuna that made is a little tough to eat, and the ratio of kimchi to everything else was way too high for my preferences. I would eat it again, requesting different proportions (the rice was amazing). Our server was attentive and we can't wait to return and try more things off the menu!

Took my mom out to dinner here last night, Wednesday. We arrived about 5:30....full parking lot as a lovely end of summer/start of fall evening, despite the near perfect weather, we didn't ask for deck seating. We had asked for a standard height table to which the hostess informed us that would be around a 20 minute wait. I reluctantly caved and said a high top table would be fine. To my delight the tables had comfortable and easier to hoist my shorter frame up on to, thanks Red Pines! The place was bustling but the volume wasn't irritatingly loud, again thanks Red Pines! Our table wasn't far from the bar and my mom commented "wow they have four bartenders!" So... if you're thinking of having a libation while you wait for your table, or just coming in for a drink? Fret not, you will be taken care of! In my photos you will notice a high top near the hostess stand, that too is a place waiting guests can have a seat while waiting for a table, as there's not benches or anything. Very courteous! If you look up and around... I rather enjoyed the north higher wall being decorated in taxidermy and he upper south wall? Beer signs; a good mix for a woodsy bar. Glancing around out at the patio, appreciative that they had a "curtain" to roll down for that Sun Sets in the West as to not blind any diners. I didn't venture past our table near the bar to see what the dining area was like at the westernmost portion of the bar where I could see standard height tables in..... Parking? We were lucky enough to find a spot right across from the door. They have a couple of lots, but spots may require a jaunt..... The food was good, my mom opted for a Red Pines pizza. I asked our server Rena if she'd order he Roll Tide wrap or a burger? She enthusiastically replied the Roll Tide. I opted for that sans the tomato. Side? Well..... pick a side...any side. Red pines has them...all! I opted for the sweet potato waffle fries. They were alright... some weren't done enough...maybe jumbled up in the fryer basket? Definitely not bad, I would definitely order them again. The Roll Tide was good... had a bit of heat on it, definitely not bad, just wasn't expecting it. Thanks Roll Tide for a good meal provided w good service. We will be back, cheers!

My wife and I made a trip out to La Crosse for the weekend, and we wanted some cheese curds. After researching we stumbled on this gem; this place is awesome! The cheese curds were a massive half pound, and were incredible!! We shared that and the fish and shrimp plate, also amazing! We both left fat and sassy! We will be back when we're in the neighborhood!

My family and I booked a private event with Red Pines for August 2025. It was wonderful! It was held at the Pine Cone, which is just next to the restaurant itself. I sent a message through their website expressing my interest, and Corinna responded very promptly. She was everything I could hope for when planning an event, professional, laid-back, gladly answered all my questions, and helped put together great menu options. She even took time to print a flyer with our family members' photo and put it up on the sign just outside the Pine Cone so everyone could find us. A very thoughtful touch as our event was a celebration of life. Day of the event, everything was perfect! Our food was so good. The pulled pork was delicious! Our bartender Shannon was amazing between her and our other server (unfortunately I didn't catch her name) no one was left waiting for a drink and they came around the patio to clear plates,cups etc the service was absolutely top notch! I would definitely book another event with them in the future and have zero hesitation recommending them to anyone interested in booking an event. I dont belive in leaving bad reviews as we are all human, and we all have things to work on. I want to share my experience with you and I hope this finds you well and maybe you can learn from it. 12 of us decided to eat at your busy restaurant last night. When we arrived we were told it would be an hour wait, which was not an issue at all. During that time we decided to spend our time outside and enjoy each other's company while waiting for a table. After an hour and a half we decided to go inside and sit as we were starting to get hungry. Please keep in mind I do understand the difficulties and stress some of your staff go through on a daily basis. Performing at a high level day in day out is no easy task in the restaurant business. So please understand that I have empathy for what some of your staff have to go through. 2 hours into our waiting time we were becoming concerned as it was getting late. We reserved a table at 6 and were not seated until 8:30. After we were seated it was brought to my intention that your hostess was very rude when our concerns were addressed. From my understanding there was a lack of problem solving and leadership issues at hand. We had a large group and no one seemed to quite figure it out as we had a disabled person in our group. Someone within our group suggested we split two tables up and shortly after we were seated. At this point I am thrilled to say that our waitress was fantastic and I wish I could tell you her name as she needs a raise. I am also happy to tell you that our food was delicious and I will recommend to others regardless of our experience. Lastly I would like to mention that it was a surprised that management did not address, apologize, or ask how we were doing, during the 3 and half hours we were there. So I hope that you bring this to your staffs attention so they can grow and make your business stronger.

Surprised to see I've never reviewed this restaurant because its one of my favorites. The food here has always been good, I usually go with the fish (Walleye or Catfish). Tonight I tried the Saturday special Ribs and WOW!!! They were excellent my daughter and I were extremely happy. After dinner our server was able convince us to try the Fig Cheesecake for dessert (I was a little hesitant at first) but both kids and I all agree that it was also Excellent. The establishment looks great & the staff has always been extremely polite. Usually on Friday nights there can be a lengthy wait depending when you go, but once you eat here you'll understand why. Keep up the great work Red Pines!!!

Slight pre-amble, I have been to Nashville half a dozen times, I have had their hot chicken and I have loved it. My brother is a local, I have had some of the best Nashville has to offer. The cheese curds were fantastic, but everything else was pretty mediocre. We had the battered shrimp and brisket enchiladas. I hate to say it, but even middle of the night, greasy chicago food trucks is better. There is more seasoning than just salt. Unfortunately, the chefs at this place are unaware of that fact.

I had to put so much salt on my mashed potatoes because it lacked any seasoning. The vegetables were just peas, and not even fresh ones. I had fresher vegetables from the Costco frozen aisle.

We hardly ever saw our waitress, but that could be the unruly child we had at our table.

Can't wait to come back on my next visit. Layla was a great waitress. Not only in service but also in recommendations for tourist stops. She sent us to Granddad Hill in Lacrosse and so glad we did not miss that stop! I had the Nashville Hot honey chicken breast sandwich. If eating here is the only reason you visit the area, it is so worth it. Besides having a beautiful location, this restaurant has some of the best food I have ever eaten. We seriously contemplated ordering a second round of food just to take home and enjoy later. First, we were blown away by the cheese curds, seriously, don’t even bother resisting the cheese curds. Then, I had the blackened chicken pita with cilantro lime rice (which was arguably some of the best cilantro lime rice I have ever eaten) and my husband ordered the smoked catfish sandwich with the red pines fries. There was not a single thing left on our plates. We ordered cocktails, had the pleasure of meeting the owners, and spent all night enjoying the wonderful vibes. Next time, we will be planning our trip around when they have live music, which I imagine is just short of magic, considering they have a stunning deck that overlooks the river. Seriously, don’t take my word for it, go give a shot, you will not be disappointed.

We haven't been to Red Pines in a while...so we stopped in for dinner...it was perfect ....Sam was our waitress and she did a fantastic job...and the food was excellent...my wife and daughter ordered wraps....that they really enjoyed while I had the orange chicken over rice...which was also very good....with a side of ham and bean chowder... Stopped by on a road trip to the Mississippi on the recommendation of a former member of the wait staff. The Pan-Fried Walleye is the best walleye I've eaten in Wisconsin in 35 years (reminds me of the kind of pan-fried pan fish I ate growing up in a small town in north Florida). I have driven back to Onalaska from Madison just to have it I love it so much, and I've brought a half-dozen friends, too. And the Cowboy Beans (which you can get take out to take home with)!! Cannot tell you about anything else on the menu because that's what I eat every time I drive over.

The Fra Diavolo sauce was distinctive, savory, lightly spicy, and so so yummy!! The breaded chicken was wonderfully seasoned and fried to perfection.
I haven't enjoyed a new dish at a restaurant at this level in quite a while. ♥️

We've been coming for a few years now, and you keep building higher!

Great location, great food and great service. I had the Walleye and my wife had the haddock, both were wonderful as were the sides. We sat inside only because the wait to sit outside overlooking the river would have been longer. Very busy but prompt efficient service

Our first time here while heading home and seeking an outstanding fish fry. The staff members were all helpful and service courteous and unobtrusive. The wait was long, but flew by with a couple of old fashioneds (strong!) and truly beautiful views of the water and trees and the moon rising into the lovely sunset sky. The whole menu is extensive, but we were there for fish! From many choices, we quickly decided on perch and smoked catfish, both so tasty we hardly touched lemon or tartar sauce. Sides were also good to the last spoonful! Oh my goodness, nearly left out the tasty carrot cake and grasshopper. Cannot wait to visit again.

We visited La Crosse for the first time for about two weeks and this was our favorite spot for dining. Food was great, patio and view were fabulous, and service was super friendly. Probably went there 5-6 times over two weeks!
