I'm from out of town. This is the second time I've dined at Restore Public House. The scallops were excellent, as was the flourless chocolate cake. What set this visit apart from most restaurants was our server. I didn't get her name, but she was exemplary. She rattled off the specials and drinks in a way that almost induced me--a light drinker--to partake. She was very attentive and made sure our water glasses were filled. Mostly, her enthusiasm and friendliness made the dining experience memorable. She mentioned studying pre-school education; I can believe she will be a wonderful teacher. She is a wonderful server.

I recently dined here and left with mixed feelings. On the positive side, I really enjoyed the atmosphere, especially the outdoor seating. The sauces were excellent, and the fingerling potatoes were some of the best I’ve ever had.

That said, I felt the food and service could use a little refinement. We ordered the sirloin and the New York strip, while ordering the server asked “is medium rare okay for those” it made me feel pressured, I’ve never had a server ask about steak temperature that way so it threw me off, however I let her know I would like mine medium and my partner confirmed medium rare for his. When they arrived they were both pretty overcooked, especially the sirloin being cooked medium well-well (little to no pink). The flavors were there, but proper execution on the steaks would have made a big difference.

I was also surprised by the portion size for the NY strip at $49 a plate. While we don’t mind paying for high-quality food, the serving felt a bit small for the price, and we left less satisfied than I’d hoped.

As for service, it wasn’t poor, but it didn’t feel sincere. Our server checked in briefly, but there wasn’t much opportunity to address our needs or mention the steak temperatures. Small details like ensuring water glasses don’t go empty would go a long way.

I share this feedback in the spirit of encouragement. I truly see a lot of potential here. the atmosphere is nice, and there are aspects of the food that were good , With a few adjustments in attentiveness, I think this restaurant could easily live up to what it’s going for.

Excellent brandy old fashioned sweet. Burger was also top 50 material(I eat hundreds a year), had one note of a taste I don’t like, but that’s just preference, the ingredients and quality were all there. Rest of our food was top notch as well.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A Charming Dining Experience
This restaurant offers such a warm and charming welcome — I felt right at home from the moment I walked in. Emma was my waitress, her service was attentive and friendly, and every detail, from start to finish, was excellent. I ordered the Shrimp Pasta, and while I didn’t snap a photo, I can confidently say it was absolutely delicious. Highly recommend this spot for a relaxing, high-quality meal out!

I took a star off because I do think there is not much value for the price. I had scallops, I think there were only three scallops. This is what the menu said 'Root Vegetable Potato Cakes, Bacon Bearnaise, Micro Radish'. It was very good, but for approx $30, there should at least be some kind of bread to accompany it. Every one else at my table got way more food. I left hungry. Like my husband said, there food was maybe ten dollars more. If I go back, I’ll just get the burger, hubby said it’s great and not as pricey.

First time visit last night, excellent food and service. I grew up about 3 blocks away on King Street and my grandparents lived on the corner of main and 19th. The burger was very good and had a interesting flavor which both of us enjoyed. For sure check it out!

A townie bar dressed up with overpriced cocktails and food. Nothing special or unique. One of the local owners even has his own special glass above the bar for when he rolls in drunk to annoy patrons with his obnoxious rambling.

Moving Kate's was a huge blunder.

I went there with my son. They sat us outside. Not one person came to our table or acknowledged us. This had gone on for 20 to 25 minutes. I got up and went to talk to somebody inside, and they said our server would be right with us. Again that never happened. I tried to get the service attention and he completely ignored me or didn’t hear a big guy say in a loud voice excuse me. Not a mean voice, but it was loud enough for him to hear. Finally, they gave us our drink. I ordered the ribeye, and what I got was something that did not look like a ribeye. I don’t know what to say, but it was deconstructed? I mean, I know what the cap looks like. But it wasn’t there. It was like a chopped up sirloin. Extremely disappointed because it was the more expensive one. Service sucked. Food sucked. One star never going back.

I have dinned here many times and am always beyond happy with the service, atmosphere, and food. I know the owner and their family personally and they are incredible people. The menu here has always been reasonable and had a large variety of options. I went for dinner the day before new year's eve and had made the reservations online (I would normally call but they weren't open that early in the morning, which is totally understandable). When we got there and were seated it was lovely, our sever was so sweet and polite and the whole place was so cozy. Our waiter gave us our menus and said that they had a set menu tonight with four courses. I was a little surprised since I was looking forward to getting one of my usuals and maybe a dessert but there was no time where we were told the price of the set menu. Online it has many photos of the menu which were similar to one's I had seen before and the estimate per person (from 49 people according to google) was 30-50 per person, which is what i have experienced in the past. We glanced over the set menu options and they all looked good so we decided to stay. Once we got to the second course I commented that it was odd we had not been told the price of the meal and there were no prices on the menu, but we assumed it would reasonable, something around 50-60 per person (epecially considering how small all the portions were). At the end of the meal we received the bill and it was 85 per person! For a two person dinner plus tax it came out to 179.83! While i am aware this is a higher end restaurant, and the food was delicious, it seemed excessive to charge 85 per person with no mention of that high ticket price before we had already finished. With tip and all it came out to 209 and some change, which was nearly double what I was hoping to spend, since I was expecting to have my own choice of what to order (my usual bill is around 100+tip). Needless to say I was not impressed with the communication and felt quite betrayed by a place that is supposed to be elevated comfort foods. I'm sure I will be back again, but will just have to make the extra effort to call and ask about the menu ahead of time, which seems a bit extra. Overall the dining experience and food was fantastic, just disappointed in the sour taste left after getting the unexpectedly high bill.

Very overrated for what, I am not sure. Excellent service 👏 from beginning to end. Drink was delicious (something blue). Although I only had one drink, I could still taste it on my tongue the next morning (obviously made with rail). Nor a good idea for a place with good status. The food was tasteless and not eatable for me to eat. The mashed potatoes are made from a box. We won't even do that at afuneral. Do better people! Yuck!

My wife and I recently visited for a date night and had a wonderful experience. The atmosphere was incredibly chill, and we loved everything about the place, from the stylish decor to the charming plates and silverware.

The food was mostly excellent. I ordered the burger, which was fantastic, and I can confirm that the duck fat fries are as deliciously crispy as they look. My wife had the sirloin, and while it was perfectly cooked to medium rare with great flavor, she found it a bit chewy.
This may have just been a bad draw on the steak itself.

For dessert, we indulged in the flourless chocolate cake and the mille-feuille. The mille-feuille was outstanding—I especially enjoyed the almond pastry cream. The flourless chocolate cake, though tasty, wasn't quite what we're used to. We often make it at home for special occasions, and this version leaned more towards cakey than fudgy, almost like a gluten-free take on a standard chocolate cake than your typical flour less chocolate cake which is a thing of its own. Still, we enjoyed it and finished it off.

Overall, I highly recommend this restaurant and will definitely return. I'm especially eager to try the elote pasta next time!

Oh. And great cocktails too.

we drive an hour to come here at least quarterly.
we came for the first time on a recommendation for my birthday and i cried at how good the food was. the food is perfectly paired with sauces and flavors. we order at least 2 appetizers and a main. i am a vegetable lover and my partner is a meat and potatoes type. there’s more than enough to accommodate all palates. the pork belly is amazing. even just the burger and fries is phenomenal. the drinks are delicious too. my partner doesn’t drink and we appreciate the alcohol-free options. the host is always incredibly friendly. 4 stars for service we have had some amazing servers and some that were ehh. it’s worth every dime and we love coming here.

Service was absolutely phenomenal. Like above and beyond. The chef cannot cook a steak. I asked for medium, I’d have been fine if it came out medium rare or medium well. It came out so well done it was grey. Sent it back, they made another that was rare. Bleeding rare. I’m pregnant and that is not something I can suffer through. If the chef cannot cook a steak, they need to take it off the menu. My green beans were also under cooked but that’s not the end of the world. The fingerling potatoes were fantastic & my husband loved the elote corn. They took off the steak & my husband’s beer for the trouble, but I went home hungry because by the time the second steak came back raw we had to leave for obligations elsewhere.

Can’t speak to the food. But my husband called earlier to reserve a table and we originally reserved it for 7 pm. We called back around 20 til 7 and changed our reservation for 8 and both times it was for outside. We got there and she immediately tried saying it was supposed to be reserved at 6. BOTH TIMES it was way after 6 and when she said it would be a while there were literally many tables free outside and inside but she said it was going to be an inside table or we could sit at the bar. We don’t drink so that’s not an option. They had my phone number so if our reservation had been at 6 they would have called. We live literally less than 5 minutes from the place we actually live on the same street. We called after 6 the second time so I don’t know why they would have assumed any of our reservations were at 6 pm. We were embarrassed to say the least. This would have been our first time here and we were really excited to try it. It was also our anniversary. But instead we left because apparently we called and spoke Spanish or a language she didn’t understand even though she confirmed what we said both times. We won’t be back there. Ever.

This is kind of an afterthought but I really feel like we were pushed out of this place. Like they for some reason didn’t want to serve us. I was dressed nicely bc it was our anniversary. My husband was casual but he works constantly and was just trying to relax. I’m not sure why they sit there and lied to us with us able to see that there were MANY tables available unless they were trying to make sure no one else saw us there. We’re not rich, but we were paying customers and they read our reservation details back to us both times we called. I’d really love it if someone here could let me know why we deserved to be treated this way. Most likely I’m going to be calling to speak to someone in the next couple of days if I don’t get a reply here.

Small resturant with limited menu options that are all excellently prepared. Menu changes frequently so no concern with lack of variety. Entrees include a few pasta, seafood and meat dishes. Usually no vegetarian option but will accommodate by subtracting meat/fish from any entree. Servers are knowledgeable, well trained (properly open a bottle of wine) and friendly. Service is efficient but not rushed.

Wow, finally I found a restaurant doing truly good food here in La Crosse. Very good cocktail to start; the kimchi & cream cheese wontons were delicious (be sure to use the sauce to balance the flavors); the spaghetti w shrimp & n'duja was beautiful in balance and execution and the prosecco rose was a great pairing for it. My faith in La Crosse dining has been restored.

Amazing, the food was some of the best we have ever had, and the atmosphere was really cool. In La Crosse Friday for a tour of UW-L and our family of 4 had dinner Friday evening on a recommendation from a co-worker. We ordered 2 appetizers to share and they both had us battling for more. My steak was perfect. My wife said her Curry Turkey Leg was one of the best items she has every had in her life. Chef John stopped out to say hi and chat about the dishes which my 2 kids thought was really fun. A great experience and can not wait to stop back for another dinner.

Food was very good. We had their fried cauliflower as an app, went nicely with the garlic aoili and chili oil. My smash burger with duck fat potato wedges were delicious(could have easily eaten more if the potatoes) and wife enjoyed her rigatoni dish with enough for leftovers the next day. Only issue I had was with the lack of urgency amongst staff. Our first experience at Restore came after a recommendation from an acqauintence. I was told it was "the best burger in town and served with potato wedges cooked in duck fat". That sounded great to me. You had me at duck fat.
We were seated indoors and were happy for it as it was pretty hot outside. The atmosphere was nice but casual. Our server was quite knowledgeable and the menu went beyond simple burgers: there was something for all tastes which included starters, pasta dishes, seafood, steaks and salads. All are prepared locally sourced ingredients. The drink menu is impressive with some great beers, wines and cocktails.
We stayed true to our plan which was burgers and beers, but not before being made aware of a starter that was featured, but not on the menu. It was Sockeye Salmon combined with all kinds of goodness (it was quite an advanced dish) and served on a freshly made slice of bread. First bite... my eyes must have rolled back in my head... it was so delicious! But, I digress, back to the burger and fries. Soòoo good. You know how when you see an ad for a burger and it looks so monumental and perfect - double stacked with a little bit of everything coming out the sides. That burger exists at Restore and looks even more monumental in real life, plus it's all homemade including the pickles! Yum.
The wedges? Come on they're made in duck fat...take my money.
Should you go?
Why haven't you left yet?
Get yourself there!

Everything about this place was pretty incredible. To be fair it was empty when I went but in the top 3 restaurants of lacrosse easily.

Service was super fast and nice.

I had the beets and the striploin. Top notch. Cooked perfectly and the chef even came out to ask how it was which was super cool - that itself puts it in the top, simple thing to do when it's slow. Going back in a few weeks for the spaghetti and Brussel sprouts for sure.

Whiskey selection is pretty big too.

Only con is 2 hour parking but you hopefully won't be there that long anyways cuz they're so fast.

We went to Restore Public House for date night and we were delighted with the experience. The building is smaller, but cozy and had great energy. Our server (so sorry I don’t remember their name, Saturday the 18th) was knowledgeable and super helpful, even giving us a few recommendations for a post dinner hang out.

We started with the house old fashioned and the tequila cranberry drink, both were great with balanced flavor profiles and not sweet.

We then had the Shaved Brussels appetizer, which we dug into before I snapped a picture. My husband even enjoyed it even though he’s not a Brussel sprout fan.

I had the Seared Scallops and my husband had the Alaskan Halibut. Presentation was beautiful and flavors were on point. We would both get these dishes again.

Dessert was the s’mores cheesecake (which we also dove into before a photo) and oooohhhh man. You should definitely get it.

Great overall experience and we’ll definitely visit again!

We had their pan seared walleye and the house made spaghetti with a carrot cake as dessert. The meals were fresh and flavorful. I liked that the cake was moist and warm, not too sweet, and instead of a heavy cream cheese topping it only had a thin layer of icing. The portion was not huge but it was a healthy portion that allowed you to have space for a dessert that is well worth trying.

From the second we walked into Restore, we felt welcomed by the servers and the indoor space, which seemed super cozy and inviting. The patio, where we chose to eat, also had excellent ambiance.

We got the old fashioned and a cucumber gin drink, both of which were nicely balanced. I'd highly recommend the cucumber gin drink while the weather's still warm - it was super light and refreshing.

I got the stuffed piquillo peppers and the roasted cauliflower. The cauliflower was definitely the star - the buffalo sauce was just the right amount of spicy and tangy, and the texture of the cauliflower was wonderful. The piquillo peppers were good, but I'd probably explore other items on the menu before revisiting them, and I'd be interested to see that recipe played with a little more, because it definitely has promise!

My partner got the halibut, and I'm so glad he did, because it was some of the best fish I've had all year. The halibut itself was beautifully flaky, tender, and lightly but masterfully seasoned, and I could have eaten a whole bowl of the quinoa English pea salad.

We had the cheesecake for dessert. For whatever reason, I feel like many restaurants fall short with their cheesecake, but that was certainly not the case here. It was lightly bruleed on top and came with strawberries, and eating it reminded me of home in the best way.

We will definitely be back!

Similar to Driftless Cafe in Viroqua. Farm to table premium menu and personable staff. One of my favorite restaurants in town.

Bring back the old chef! The food was subpar, and the atmosphere felt rushed. I asked for the Arctic Char to be cooked medium and was told that it's only prepared one way. As a result, it came out well done....that poor fish! Overall, the presentation, ambiance, food, and drinks are a true step backwards from where they were just a few months ago. I'll try back in a few months.

Being from out of town stopped by this cute little restaurant, the food was spectacular. Went with a local wine that paired nicely with the short rib.

It's baaaaack! Bulgogi app was yummy, nice beets with chevre salad, awesome hot chicken sandwich, and our favorite arctic char presentation ever. Server was on point and Manager always attentive and nice to visit with. Go!

I recently went here for the first time with some friends and we loved it! The menu was simple (maybe due to COVID?), but either way the food was fabulous. Between the three of us, we ordered almost half the menu and no dish disappointed or seemed overpriced. The RPH burger, the Ricotta Gnocchi, and the cheesecake were some highlights. Great service and the restaurant had a lovely atmosphere. We all will definitely be coming back!

A group of us had a blast in the outdoor "igloos." What a fun experience. The staff was so friendly, the food was amazing, and the atmosphere was perfect. It was close to zero degrees outside and we were moderately warm with the indoor heating unit and comfy wool blankets. We definitely dressed for the weather, but can imagine it would be nice and toasty if the outside temp was 20s or higher. I highly recommend for fun night out!

I heard through my personal grapevine for some time now that I just had to go to the Restore Public House. So we went there on a Friday night. My friends spoke the truth. Restore Public House lived up to the hype. The food was amazing, the drink menu was fun and the service was terrific! You can request a reservation right online...that was so convenient. I highly recommend everything about Restore Public House!

Really high prices for the dish size(tiny side dishes+main courses). Food was not the greatest. I loved the old Mint that use to be here before. Been here twice now, will not come back. Try Lovechild, Le Chateau, or even the Distillery-(same owner as this place)

Excellent service. The house cocktail (Rhuby) was a big win. Food perfectly prepared and paired. Our table of 5 shared 3 small plates to start and all 5 entrees with NO disappointments. Spencer, Augie and their staff have done an amazing job. Put it in your budget and pay the RPH a visit, you'll be glad you did.

We went here on opening night and it was amazing. The food is very intentional and well done. I got the 72-hour beef and I could hardly believe it was beef. The inside of the restaurant is nice to and is very similar to The Mint, which used to be located here. I look forward to returning to this restaurant and having more of the great food.
