Poor service, never got our food.
Never have had issues with Richard’s in the past and have always loved their chicken wings. Decided to try their Friday Fish fry. My husband and I were seated right away and waited 10 minutes for our server to even greet us. When she finally came over we ordered our drinks and food at the same time and were invited to head to the soup and salad bar. We finally got our drinks about 10 minutes later which was simply a virgin bloody and a soda. We then waited an hour and 15 minutes with our server never checking on us and watching everyone around us get their food, which there were only 6 other tables and lots of empty tables so the restaurant was not busy. After waiting so long, being ignored and frustrated, we went to the bar to offer to pay for our drinks and the salad bar but would not be paying for the food we did not receive as we did not get it but would pay for what we did consume as that was the right thing to do. The bartender asked what table we were at and said he did not have anything for that table, our drinks nor food were never entered into their system. He looked for our server and asked her what happened. From across the restaurant it looked like she didn’t know. He still charged us for the salad bar (which we did offer to pay for) but did not charge for the drinks. After leaving hungry, we realized we were charged $12.50/person for the salad bar when the fish fry I had ordered came with the salad bar for only $13.50. Had we known the salad bar was the expensive part of the meal we would’ve gone up for more than one trip to the salad bar. All in all, left extremely disappointed with the service and how this situation was handled by both the server and bartender.

My sister, daughter and myself are there for the first time on Friday 4/25/25. We all ate off the salad bar. Salad, and the pea mixture salad. We all ordered the poor man's lobster. Two of us had baked potatoes and my sithad the asparagus. Well the fish that came in butter, the butter was cold. The asparagus my sister had was hard like it was cooked. All three of us ended up getting sick , we are thinking from the pea salad mix that was on the salad bar. So as far as going back there to eat we won't be. We just hope no one else ended up feeling like we did after eating there that day.

We just left Richard's my wife had the bowl of ( sea) food waitress said she should try it $31 according to the waitress I had the 8oz tenderloin menu said $13.50 ,it wasn't a tenderloin 1/4 flat and grisell wife said hers was (ok) received the bill the bowl of food was$39.99 not $31 my terrible steak was $17 not $13.50 like the menu said place smelled like cigarettes.Never again

Seated just off bar with mirrors for background was nice for a "date" with the wife. Might want to call ahead for reservations, or wait for a little while at bar if just walking in. And unless you’re a local glued to Fox News I’d stay away. While at the salad bar, another women started commenting about wanting to shoot Mike Pence before talking to another about trans people in bathrooms.

This was my second time to Richards and I have to say that I really love the charm of this place. It’s obviously a family run business and I’ve had the pleasure of meeting both Carrie’s, Hot Todd behind the bar, and Brandy who finally warmed to me on the second visit and I was honored. on the second visit, we had a group of about 30 people and the food was excellent, but unfortunately served a bit on the cool side which is understandable considering the size of and the size of our party.

On the first visit, the hot wings were served hot and excellent with homemade sauces and recommendations from the bar. Everything that I have seen come out of the kitchen looked delectable, and the restaurant has been busy each time I go for good reason.

If you enjoy a place with character you will enjoy Richard’s. The bar is a fantastic experience with homemade shake of the day gear and a wheel of prizes. It’s hard not to have fun at Richard’s.

We ate there a couple months ago and really enjoyed the buffet, everything was fabulous. We took some friends there to eat recently and it was not as impressive this time, sad to say. Even our guests said the same thing when I mentioned to them that a lot of things had so much pepper on it. The meatballs especially had so much pepper, chicken was great.

My leg was shattered in an automobile accident by a intoxicated driver and unfortunately now, among other things ,I have to drive with a handicap drivers placecard. When I arrived at Richard's someone with a giant truck ( with no handicap placecard) was parked sideways in front of the handicap parking spot. I had a hard time getting to the entrance , it was raining and I was there alone and unstable on my leg. I almost just left at that point but I made it to the door and was feeling pretty excited to be there until I sat at the bar (I wanted to sit at a table but no one noticed apparently when I arrived and I stood at the door waiting expectatantly for someone to acknowledge me. )Things unfortunately didn't get any better when I finally just decided to seat myself at the bar . A younger gentleman was working behind the bar and I inquired with him about the possibility of ordering food at the bar . He explained he didn't know and that the female bartender who knew was busy elsewhere. He never asked me if I wanted even a drink while I was waiting and continued to wait on the other people at the bar. I sat there for about 15 min with nothing until finally an older gentleman came behind the bar and I then asked him if I could please order food and see the menu. He was very nice and passed me a menu. I then continued to sit there for another 10 or 15 min while no one came to take my order or even bring me a diet coke. I was not looking forward to going back out to that parking lot because I was hoping to eat and stay there until the rain stopped. But after continuing to sit there and be totally disregarded finally I made up my mind and left. I don't really understand why this happened to me but I can tell u I will obviously not be returning.

Edit: we came for prime buffet a couple months ago and they were serving pretty terrible gristle, cut thing soaked and cooked to well done in a tub of au jus. We requested fresh carved prime rib (which we came for) and were told no, and then that ‘not everyone has as big of an appetite as (I) do.’ Left nearly in tears that night and will not be back.
I've been coming to Richard's since I was a kid and it's something of a family tradition. Prime rib buffet cannot be beat - nothing like it in town and the value is outstanding. Love the classic soup and salad bar. We came for Valentine's day this year and agreed the lobster tails we had were the best we've had out. I'm interested in trying wing night since I've heard great things. This is a supper club experience so you should expect to wait, nurse a few drinks, and spend a few hours.
The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is that recently the prices have increased to where they are one of the most expensive joints in town, even for some of the food that's pre-made/frozen like the ravioli. We were shocked on Valentine's day to discover that our doubles were $9 a drink as it used to be very reasonable to drink here. Still love Richard's but I do think a remodel is in order (both inside and out) and a relook at the current pricing given the atmosphere/portion sizes/etc. I still recommend them though, friendly service and a fun vibe.

I had the shrimp dinner. I was on a first date and didn't want to complain. It was AWEFUL! It was dry and tasteless. The salad bar had poor choices in dressing and I couldn't eat that either which was why I picked this place. I hadn't been here in years and I won't be coming back. $25 dollars wasted on that meal. 1 star is too much for this meal!! It was an overall bad experience. Good thing the date wasn't the same. I was staying in a hotel near Stewart Ave in Wausau and was traveling alone. I really didn’t want to go to a chain restaurant and wanted to go to a place where I could socialize with the locals. Man THIS WAS THE PLACE!! On top of it all I got the Ribeye which they hand-cut in house and I could order as many ounces as I wanted. I went for 18oz. ;). And ate every last bite. One of the best steaks I’ve had in a long time and I travel all over the world for work and eat at some really nice places…this honestly ranks as one of the top steaks I’ve had. And the clientele was really friendly too! Now I wish I lived in Wausau and not 900 miles away…because this would be my new place to go!!!

I whole heartedly love supporting local businesses when I can. However, my Sunday evening meal was quite the disappointment. My $30 meal tasted and presented like cafeteria food. The soup and salad bar were just OK. I did eat here pre-covid and thought their fish fry and soup/salad bar was great then. I'm not sure what has happened but we will probably not be returning in the future. It's a bummer as we live in the area.

First time eating at Richards Restaurant, came in on a Thursday night with no reservations and was seated immediately. Given water and buns to start. We ordered the combo platter as an appetizer and came out in a timely manner, and it was delish! Best cheese curds, and mushrooms I've ever had. Ordered a cheeseburger, well done, which all I tasted was a burned taste to it along with Mac and cheese twice baked potato that had no flavor besides the burnt aftertaste from the burger. The other order was boneless wings (Caribbean Jerk/Buffalo). You get quite a lot for the price and the coating was perfectly in the middle of tender and crunchy. The only negative was that the flavor did lack somewhat. Waiters and staff were all nice, inside was clean and decorated. But could replace the green lighting in the dining area as it does show up on all my pictures. Overall 4-5 stars. I will come back. 😊

Excited about the buffet until I saw it. Came in at 7pm on Saturday. Buffet was not replenished, stuffing and gravy sat so long they were dried up. Ribs & pork tasted like day old. Having to refill my own water was the icing on cake for me. I'm not one to complain, but I would like to warn the next guy about a $20-$30 buffet that was worth $5. I believe the place produces great food, my wife ordered Tortellini with Tenderloin, and it was delicious. Long review recap. Give the place a try, just order from menu, something in which they care about and take their time, not the buffet without looking at it ahead of time.

My first time dining here. Bleu cheese dressing on the salad bar was very good. The seafood chowder was thin and watered down. I had the halibut Oscar it was okay at best. The sauce wasn’t very good, very lumpy and soggy asparagus. Halibut was okay. The atmosphere wasn’t welcoming. Never seen so many people dressed like cheerful holiday elves with scowls on their faces. It was ironic and kind of funny. The bar tender seemed like he was in bad mood while ringing us out. It was my birthday and I planned to ask about playing the birthday game but the staff was so unfriendly, I didn’t ask. Didn’t want to put them out anymore than I already had by simply choosing their establishment to dine at for my birthday. Like I pointed out to my son when he asked why I didn’t play the game, if I won a free certificate I probably still wouldn’t return anyway. We were together and made the best of it.
