Absolutely phenomenal food! Minus dessert, our table ordered everything on the menu. You CANNOT go wrong! This is amongst the best food I've ever eaten, in.my.life. The flavor is bursting out of every bite, it was fresh..had sauces to refresh your tongue and awaken your senses. Amazing food, great service..and even our picky eaters joined in on the fun! If I lived here, I would be a regular!! Instead, I will remember this experience as anything but regular!! Also, the atmosphere is warm and cozy and completely unique!

We were looking for a cozy, romantic B&B to spend our anniversary weekend and the Roots Inn was PERFECT! It’s very close to the main area of Sister Bay but just down a quiet street. Collin is incredibly accommodating and attentive. Breakfast was unique, healthy, filling and DELICIOUS! Collin is very conscious of specific dietary needs and food preferences. We will ABSOLUTELY return in the future, I think we found our new favorite go to place to stay. Thank you to the Roots team for making it a great stay!

Roots is a hidden gem in Sister Bay.
We stayed for two nights, and the rooms were cozy, clean, and comfortable. Collin runs a fantastic establishment—he’s incredibly attentive and clearly cares about his guests.
The daily breakfast was fresh, healthy, and delicious. It was so good, we even came back for lunch!
We’ll definitely be back, and I’ll recommend this spot to anyone visiting the area.

We stayed for two nights at Roots Inn and had a fantastic experience! Collin was super helpful and very responsive. The breakfast was amazing-- a sizable, tasty, and healthy meal to start the day off well! The Inn's location was also really great; you're right next to downtown but also a bit off the busier road. We'll be back :) Thanks!

Came in with my family for the Lola’s Kitchen pop-up this week. Incredible food, atmosphere, and service. We loved sitting at the bar and chatting with the other patrons, waitstaff, and owner Colin. Owen the chef has really put a lot of thought and love into the menu and we loved everything we tried.

Our week at Roots was absolutely wonderful! We stayed in the 2-Twin room and thoroughly enjoyed every moment. It was fantastic to have breakfast taken care of each morning, with Collin preparing everything perfectly to our dietary needs. Randy's coffee from Ephirum Coffee Lab was a daily highlight we'll truly miss until next time.

Beyond the delicious food and coffee, Roots offers onsite parking, classic Sister Bay charm, and an unbeatable location just one block from the beach. If you're a foodie with any dietary needs, rest assured, Roots will accommodate! A big thank you to Owen, Frank, and Collin for making our trip so special.

Lola's Kitchen is a pop up restaurant inside of Roots Kitchen on Monday's and Tuesday's this season. If you want delicious food, in a treehouse setting, with wonderful service - go here. The menu is small and interesting. Last night, our table of 5 ordered one of everything and went home with lunch for today. Apps: the Pork Lumpia was a table favorite, but I especially enjoyed the special veggie lumpia with beets - full flavor! For the entrees, the Chicken Adobo melted off the bones. The broth was so flavorful we were getting every drop from the bowl. The Ginataang Kalabasa was a coconut milk, squash with other veggies soup that was out of this world. This was not something I would normally order, but was a favorite at our table. The other entrees: Noodles and Beef dishes also packed down home comfort food flavors. Of course we had to also try dessert. Both were colorful and tasty with the Chocolate Hills cookie dough balls our top pick.

Service by Frank and Collin was exceptional, friendly, and professional. They greeted many locals by name. Food whisked out of the kitchen to our table piping hot! Chef Owen was amazing in this small space and ran several dishes out from the kitchen himself. He took the time to say hello at the end of the busy night.

I highly recommend Lolas kitchen for top notch food and friendly night out. It's worth a drive north!

Review for Lola's Kitchen Pop-Up on Mondays & Tuesdays: Damn, that's great Filipino food! My husband, my Filipina mom, and I all delighted in the Bistek Tagalog, Chicken Adobo, Pancit, and Pork Lumpia -- tasty, good portion sizes, prepared without heavy oils. My mom is really picky and she said some of the dishes tasted just like HER lola used to make, the highest compliment. SO nice to have good Filipino food in Door County. Please keep going!

Roots is such an awesome spot to stay! We enjoyed the coziness of our room and the close proximity to all of Sister Bay’s downtown. Can’t say enough about Collin and his team. The comfort they provide from check in to check out is incredible. And the breakfasts from the Kitchen each morning were all so unique and delicious. It was really fun to walk in there with no idea of what the breakfast was and to let Collin show off! We will definitely be back.

Restaurant review. Run don't walk to the monthly Filipino popup. The two appetizers pork lumpia and meatballs with banana ketchup really tasty. The adobo chicken fall off the bone tender and juicy with savory broth. The beef tagalog also tender but my companion gobbled it up so fast I almost missed my bites! Service good and friendly.

This review focuses on the restaurant, not the bed-and-breakfast. It’s probably the most affordable and incredibly delicious healthy/comfort food I’ve ever had. The bratwurst is the best I’ve ever tasted. The salad is also fantastic. They have a dish for everyone. But you must come for the brat sandwich! The atmosphere is decent, and the service is incredible.

And the award for hottest inn, inn food, and innkeeper and crew goes to Roots Inn & Kitchen. Seriously, my first thought and comment after having my first bites of the breakfast bibimbap was, "this chef DGAF" about toning it down for the midwest palate; talk about a flavor bomb! Kimchee for breakfast in Wisconsin: cheeky, and I'm here for it. Oh, and the Inn is so cozy and intimate, and, yet, at the same time, quiet. You've redefined bed and breakfasts, Mr. Collin and team, a tip of the hat. Kindly, Jessica and Kyle

My new favorite restaurant in Door County! Most of the menu is vegan, and the unique flavors are amazing. Omnivores are very happy here as well - they can add protein to dishes or have a brat. Roots is an amazing bed and breakfast! Can’t rave enough about our stay! Collin is an absolutely amazing host. He is a wizard in the kitchen - breakfast here was some of the best food on our trip to Door County. Literally cannot speak higher of the food. The service is so warm and friendly. Collin takes time to chat to his guests, and remembers everyone’s names - very personable. The location of the inn is perfect - walking distance to all of Sister Bay. Parking was never a problem. The room was so cute and quaint. The house itself is decorated in a detailed way where you can find little unique aspects of every nook and cranny of the historic building. 10/10 stay, highly recommend.

Highly recommend this B&B - superb service and food! Our room was cozy and comfortable. All needs provided for. Loved the “nuances” of an old building with many architectural elements. Great location in Sister Bay - easily walkable to many locations. Morning breakfast was outstanding. Our request for plant-based meal was accommodated with super delicious options. Proprietor provides exceptional friendly service.

Our stay in SB began in 2007. This habitat in 2016 was our last stay, and its owners then were Bill and Louise Robbins. (The Inn on Maple)
Fast forward to 2024, a modern and handsome generation, the owner's name is Collin, has acquired it, and its restoration is rustic, beautiful and comfortable.
The meals served are deliciously organic, farm to table, and nutritious! The owner and his team are gracious, warm and friendly, and their objective is to in someway between cooking and welcoming new guests, to establish a relationship with their visitors. July could not get here fast enough, because we're returning! Toni and Toby, Wauwatosa, Wi.

What an awesome hidden gem just off the main drag of Sister Bay. A must stop for a great lunch, and don’t forget about their amazing in! But if you can’t book a room, then support by swinging by for a drink and their amazing menu.

A wonderful patio awaits you surrounded by pine and apple trees.

Not only is this hidden gem a delicious place to eat, it is women owned and she is truly involved in every aspect of your experience.

Decided to choose the Roots Inn in Sister Bay, Door County for my 45th birthday location and I’m sure glad I did. They had a very easy check in process, we were greeted and handed the keys to our room, given a specifics about our room and the property and told that breakfast will be served promptly at 8:30-9:30 am the following morning. I truly enjoyed the property and the decor, it is a historic site so that was very interesting to get to experience staying in a piece a property that had been renovated that is a part of the history of the town. We were able to drink anything out of the refrigerator which included water soda and an assortment of alcoholic beverages. We decided to sit on the screened in porch and play some cards while enjoying a beverage before we headed out for dinner at LURE, a nice seafood and steak place just two blocks away from the BNB, so convenient!!! The morning after, we arrived for breakfast, we were served a squash and zucchini bake with breakfast potatoes and heirloom tomatoes vegan Parmesan with some kind of herb lemon dressing topped with a fried egg, on the side there were sliced apples and pears for palate cleansing. I was very impressed and I look forward to visiting them again in the future.

Wow. First time eating here and we were blown away. Great ambiance…rustic, comfortable, welcoming…the minute you walk in, you feel just good. The game was on, which was 👍🏼. Great menu. If ever there was a perfect BNB this is it! To put things in perspective, I travel a lot. I have travelled all over the US and Mexico, explored Guatemala and Cuba and also visited Spain, Morroco and Brazil. So I have stayed a few places, haha. This was one of the two or three nicest places I have ever stayed. First, the room was cute and the bed was comfy. There was a living room for guests´ use that was also very comfy and pretty. I loved the fridge with complimentary drinks. And, don´t get me started on the breakfasts that are included. Amazing, just amazing. Delicious. Great coffee too. The place just had a zen vibe, and all the other guests were chill too. You can walk to everything. I highly recommend Roots, you will not be disappointed.

What a wonderful restaurant! I went for lunch and got the loaded brat, which was Pad Thai themed (it changes regularly!). It was incredible! The server was awesome and the atmosphere was relaxing. We needed a place to stay for just one night, a quick stop on the peninsula on our way to Washington Island. We try to support smaller, family owned businesses. We lucked out and we’re able to reserve a room at Roots Inn and Kitchen. The historic is quirky, interesting and comfortable. We were in the backpacker room. This room, while small is well appointed, perfect for our needs and would be a great base from which to explore the rest of the area. What made Roots a stand-out though was the scrumptious breakfast and welcoming conversation with one of the owners. This is why we choose smaller establishments, we love making a connection, listening to other people’s stories…and GREAT food. Anticipate both at Roots.

We had the rehearsal dinner the night before our son’s wedding at Sara & Collins “Kitchen/Inn”. It was an evening to remember. Sara & Collin worked with us, the parents of the groom to design a menu especially to meet the soon to be married couple’s tastes. The menu ranged from a uniquely flavored artichoke and roasted red peppers dip with locally baked focaccia to entrees and sides such as jerked chicken sliders and local grown pork brats with wonderfully flavored lemon Caesar salad, potato salad with charred sweet corn and roasted garlic and a pasta with dill and mint dressing.|Though their pub/outdoor deck was a snug squeeze for our group of 30, Sara, Collin and their team executed our drinks and dinner with warmth and style to perfection. Collin even curated both a craft beer selection and a thoughtful playlist to our honored guests complete satisfaction.|We will be back no doubt and recommend Roots to our friends and all of you happily.|Mary & Mike O.

We stayed in the Backpacker room for 2 nights. The room was tight but worked for 2 people. It was very well decorated and surprisingly comfortable. I understand the other rooms are bigger. Like most B&Bs the place is a little quirky, but this time only in the best ways. The location was about half a block from the main business district on a quiet street. There are several coffee shops, ice cream parlors, and restaurants nearby. The breakfasts, (especially on the first day), were excellent. We didn't try the food at other times. The B&B was very clean and the owners and staff were very friendly. ||||The upper Door County area in general had a positive vibe. They seemed to be cautious not to spread Covid using common sense. People respected each other's space and were courteous. I would definitely want to come back to the area and to the Root Inn & Kitchen.

I almost hate to give a five star review and comment on my stay at Roots Inn. Because once people find out about this hidden gem in Sister Bay, they will definitely want to stay there and eat there too!
Colin and Sarah are the perfect host and hostess! Sweet dreams are almost guaranteed in their cozy bedrooms and the breakfast that is included in your stay is amazing, and made from all locally sourced ingredients. The food in the restaurant is fantastic and includes a wide variety of vegetarian and vegan dishes. If I could gove them 10 stars I would- thank you Colin and Sarah!

This little restaurant is awesome. Such a cool space and loved the back patio. The food was incredible and with very fresh ingredients. The soups were delicious and has the best bread to go with then. My husband had the pork brat and said it was great.

My husband and stayed here earlier in October of this year for our honeymoon! Collin and Sara were wonderful hosts. They're very accommodating, were excited to celebrate with us, and were great at local recommendations for things to do and places to eat! Before we even left we were already excited to discuss the next time we could come back to stay with them. The room was cozy and comfortable and the breakfast was by the far the best food we had on our trip! Best place to stay in Sister Bay, for sure! Thank you for making our honeymoon so relaxing and easy to enjoy! We can't wait to come back :) Haley & Cale

Sarah and Collin are such wonderful hosts. They know the area so well and are very personable and kind. My husband and I had a wonderful stay at Roots Inn & Kitchen this August when we visited for our honeymoon. This was our first time in Door County and it did not disappoint!

Upon arrival, we were greeted by Collin who was friendly and eager to help make our stay perfect. We stayed in the office which was so nicely decorated and made us feel at home. The rest of the Inn is equally as picturesque and so fun to stay at!

Breakfast was absolutely fabulous, starting off with warm scones, and ending with a phenomenal breakfast taco made with local ingredients. Collin and Sara were extremely accommodating, offering alt times for breakfast if we couldn't make it during the 8:30 - 9:30 window, and offering to make customizations for any allergies.

We hope to come visit next summer and stay here again!

Oh boy. The integrity of the owners at Roots Inn & Kitchen deserves 0 stars. After I successfully reserved a $125/per night room for Sept. 8th with my mom, it was made 100% clear to me that a second night would need to be reserved before completing my booking. Thus, I made it 100% clear that I would be reserving a second night. Still, I needed to know if a late 10pm check in time on Sept. 7th was doable (It was) and how early check out would be on Sept.9th (10am). Colin said not to rush much and that we can have a day or two to think it over. I liked the idea of waking up to the wonderfully cheap breakfast on Saturday and Sunday, but at the same time thought booking Sunday night (which I would not stay for all) would allow for us to avoid an early wake up call - as well as a full Sunday to enjoy the brats here. Maybe planning out the second night around food took too much consideration (ha!) but by the next day (I talking to Colin Monday this was Tuesday) I received a voicemail stating that our reservation was cancelled, an hour later an e-mail came in which blamed me for losing the room because I didnt respond to the voicemail - except the voice message actually said my reservation was cancelled at the time of Colin's call. It was really sad to get such an abrupt cancellation - we were using the time Colin gave us to plan out a weekend. I wrote back saying that I was given time to make a decision, and I gave a quick ring during work to let Roots know of my email in hopes of saving my booking. No response came by lunch time and so I called and reached Colin - whom I thought might be able to help, instead he said Sara was out and that they would get back in touch with me. About an hour later, both owners sent me an e-mail much like the first saying that other people were interested in taking the full weekend and that Roots tried to reach out to me (this was the call and email Tuesday evening saying our reservation was already cancelled). Not being satisfied with the lack of accountability on their part, I called and left a voicemail saying that I wouldn't want to stay where I'm not wanted anyway and that I will be leaving this review because their current reviews gave me a much different impression of how they run their business. I don't necessarily like leaving reviews because I obviously have too much to say!
Anyway, up to this point I actually felt bad that my review wouldn't fit in with all the others. This was until later today when Colin and Sara chose to send me another email where they called me a threat to their safety and said any further communication by me 'would be treated very seriously'...???.... I assume they didn't want me to say any of the above here, yet if this is how they discourage 1 star reviews from others then you might as well know these guys are dishonest and are much too money driven for comfort.

Edit in response to Roots: I've visited Door County on many occasions, usually being able to rent out a small vacation property for longer stays. What I've loved about this area are the honest and good people. Colin and Sara are quite the opposite and have tarnished this image for me through their odd compulsive lying. I would visit all the honest establishments before I would ever come to this Inn - meaning I wouldn't have time for you two. Problem solved.

Having a home town connection to Sara and Collin (the owners of the B&B) is what got us interested in checking out Roots Inn and Kitchen. We had heard great things but wanted to experience it for ourselves, and we could not be happier that we did!

From the second we walked into our cozy "home" for the weekend, we were instantly charmed by the decor, pictures from Sara and Collin's travel experiences, and other personal touches they incorporated into the Inn. The hospitality was incredible, and we felt so welcome during our stay. The food was out-of-this-world, made fresh with local ingredients, and truly some of the best breakfast we have ever had. The tasty scones waiting at the table for us every morning were a great touch, too!

We loved Sister Bay, and Roots Inn & Kitchen's location is perfect, just a short walk to all the local establishments, including great restaurants, bars, and shops. It's also a short drive to other towns and fun things to do in Door County. Sara & Collin are a great resource and happy to provide suggestions for things to do in Sister Bay and surrounding areas.

If you're looking for a place to stay for a Door County getaway, look no further! You will be so happy with your choice to stay at Roots Inn & Kitchen. We are already planning our trip to come back next year!

Our room was not huge but the bed was comfortable and the bathroom was pretty nice. The shower is clean and modern and has good temperature and pressure, but the sink was a little bit small and awkwardly placed.

Chatting with them is the main reason we keep coming back! The actual space is very homely but with a modern feel. My wife and I went up to stay with Collin and Sara at Roots Inn this month after our wedding. From the first email I sent asking some random questions, to the lovely email we received after our stay, they were as good as an Inn can be. They are looped in with all of the fantastic restaurants in Sister Bay and the surrounding towns (we went to Trixies and Wickman House - which I can not recommend either of these places enough. Truly great restaurants). They also have a breakfast that rivals most restaurant breakfasts I have ever had. My wife is dairy and gluten free and they were so flexible in making her similar but suitable breakfast. Collin and Sara love to visit with their guests during breakfast to see what you plan on doing and what you did the night before. They are so generous with their time and make you feel at home. All of their recommendations for activities (Whitefish Dunes, Cave Point, Washington Island, Simon Creek Winery, and Stones Throw Winery just to name a few) were all fantastic. We could not have had more fun and felt more relaxed the whole time we were there. We will absolutely be headed back to see them again soon.

Right in the heart of Sister Bay, this gem is owned by two very amazing individuals. Collin and Sara. They do it all! In their spare time, they even find time to run a lunch spot next door to the inn! The room that we stayed in was cozy, a little on the small side, but for the price that they charge, and the service they give, I think it's probably the best deal I've come across in a very long while. You don't go to Door County to stay in your room, anyway, right? They're super knowledgeable about the area and what to do in your spare time, so just ask! Go sit out on the back deck, have some of Collin and Sara's amazing food, enjoy the view, and you'll be hooked!
