Very disgusting this place is. Cat is walking around inside the bar jumping up on the stools and tables. State Law is no pets were there is food being served.
Outside looks like the city dump.

We asked for seperate checks, but then the check came all together. The bartender gave us a hard time and said it was their policy for one check with a group of six or more, which she kept repeating it was published on the menu. When I stated we didn't have that many in our group, she stated the baby( 5 weeks old) was counted as a person. Seriously, with baby our group was 5. The menu printed on back stated groups of 8 or more. She wouldn't back down! Even though the food was great, be careful on the bill!!!

What a great surprise!!!
Upon our arrival to Rusty's Backwater restaurant with friends on their boat on the Wisconsin river..
what first looked like a barn with a lot of collection of stuff in the yard...
Turned out to be a pleasant surprise inside. It was filled with local families & friends having a great time .. good food, and the largest Bloody Mary I have ever seen !! It was filled with banana peppers, a pickle, a huge sausage and Wisconsin string cheese..it looked like dinner to me. And they even fixed my bad hair day with A Rusty's cap. A PERFECT DAY IN THE COUNTRY, Wisconsin style!

Definitely changed since the last time I was there a number of years ago. Somehow, they decided they want to live up to the whole Backwater name... Lots of implements and yard "stuff" surrounding the property. Old refrigerator standing on a dolly in the middle of the dining room. Shipping packages outside and restaurant supply boxes stacked up inside in a major walkway of the bar. Slow service for drinks and a 20 minute wait for a single hamburger on a bun. The Bloody Mary was still good, but the rest of the experience was lacking... This was from a visit on 8/17/22.

Quality, Quantity, and a Cat

First time customer and I was surprised! I came for the fish fry as an out of towner, and it was fantastic. My fish was thick and the breading was so tasty. The fries were hot and crunchy. I got a lot of them too, Even my soda was big.

On the way out I saw a very pleasant looking cat on a bench, after asking politely she even granted me permission to pet her. Over all I would say the cat was the best experience. Didn't catch the cat's name, can only assume it is called "Rusty."

Would eat again, even if only to catch a glimpse once more of that very lovely cat.

What happened to Rusty’s? Back in the day it used to be a great and place for a burger, or fish fry, and drinks. Now it’s a junkyard, outside and in. Was there on a Thursday night, not crowded, but service very slow and my burger, which was supposed to be medium rare, was burnt and gray. The fries we ordered never showed up. I guess not caring about how the place looks is also reflected in quality of what you are getting to eat and drink.

Lots of junk yard junk all around the outside and this place is located about 10 minutes outside of town. Once inside, there was a lot of things scattered around. Pool table was covered with junk and spare stools, games were turned off, things appeared old and run down. Small bar with more bartenders than needed standing around. Establishment only accepts cash and checks, no cards.

I've never seen a bar with such clutter as this one. It was like a hoarder episode and we were being pranked. Half the bar top was covered in junk so nobody could sit there (est 7 chairs worth), which included an empty case of Blaatz, green funnel, piles of papers and boxes, Milwaukee tools, aerosol cans, etc. The group of 7 we brought in became so cold we sat next to the fireplace. That's where we found tooth brushes, 5 gal waste oil, broken vases, and tons of machinery parts. There were about 4 tables littered with junk that you also couldn't sit. The weirdest was the 2 cats staring at us through the window that lived in the side room of the bar. We waited over an hr for our meal and I wish we would've just left when we first saw all the extension cords running along the walls.

I bartended for Rusty in 1999. I haven't been back for almost 10 years due to relocating. I brought the wife and other friends here over the weekend. The bloodys have always been fantastic... but they're even better now with a hot stick and cheese spirals. The service was excellent. The burgers were amazing as usual. A woman next to us said it was the best burger she's had in a long time. We left full and beyond content. Don't forget to checkout the hoodie and t-shirts. They're hilarious.

Rusty's isn't fancy. It's not top end. Hell, it's a little rough around the edges. But in an absolutely PERFECT way! It's the charming small-town bar that never changes. The smiles don't change. The atmosphere doesn't change. The Wisconsin River that the bar sits on is constant in its flow right past the front door. It's this unchanging charm that makes Rusty's, well, Rusty's! This place is an exceptional Bar and Restaurant relative to most similar establishments in the area. Drinks and food are very much above average. During my last visit I have to say that it is a potential Hotspot for COVID-19 transmission. Very full of unmasked patrons rebelling against public health recommendations.
