The menu, I absolutely adore.
There's variety, and everything we tried was amazing. Chicken katsu sandwich, gochujang with shrimp, Greek fries & crab rangoon taco. My fiance loved his tacos and everything I had ordered 😂

Something savory and Wisconsin classic to things I definitely didn't expect to find, very pleasantly surprised.

We aren't from there so when we walked in we didn't know where to go, & felt a little set aside, it was iffy at the beginning. But, the service after we got seated outside was amazing!

Great bar with a unique menu! Not your typical Wisconsin bar food. The menu draws strongly on Asian and Cajun influences. There are so many interesting choices. The Forbidden Rice Naan wrap was amazing. There are so many fun things I could come here a dozen more times before repeating a menu choice.

The atmosphere is almost fantastic. It has a beautiful bar but suffers with drop ceilings and fluorescent lights. An interior refresh would go a long way to making this a 10/10 destination. They serve some interesting signature and classic cocktails, but the draft menu is quite limited. They also provide a large selection of board games to play.

Overall, amazing destination for foodies, but keep your group small as there is really no option for seating more than 4 people together.

A seriously surprising delightful late night visit for my family of 7! Our server was extremely prompt, friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating!! Our array of drinks and apps were served fast with great course timing through out and prompt pre bussing! My drink was deliciously deceptive in strength and the awesome server of a mans name eludes me but I thank him deeply for an awesome birthday dinner experience with my family I will not forget! Ok...so yes, we were hungry and tired, but we couldn't have chosen a better place!

I love craft beers and their selection was amazing - so we got 1 each.

On top, we've got the Lobster Mac and Cheese along with the Steak Ponzu Mealt. Both were INCREDIBLE.

So no photos as we were starving, but it was worth the time for review - but don't worry, they have a screen playing the dishes to get you hungry 😋

And of course, staff was really friendly and everything came really fast - it was a Thursday though.

The waitress made us feel unwelcome from the second we walked in. She rolled her eyes at my 13 year old daughter when she asked if they had creamer to make a dirty soda.
They had no ice! Our table of 4 only got 2 forks and my husband and I had to use chopsticks. I had to eat a $25 soupy lobster mac and cheese with chopsticks. Super annoying. Our waitress was so hostile we were afraid to ask for anything.

We stopped in to Ryan’s after a recommendation from a friend. A very simple order of 3 burgers and a Poutine special took about 40 minutes to prep. The waitperson would not allow me to order grilled onions on my burger although it was featured on another menu item. That should have been a hint. The Poutine was pretty bland with cheese curds that were cold in the middle. I overheard the table next to us complain about the food delay so the waitperson took their drinks off their bill. The burgers were not very good.
After we paid, one of us asked about the slow food service and our waitperson said that we make everything from scratch and this is not bar food!

Service left much to be desired. Bartender ignored us and acted like we were an inconvenience. It's got the atmosphere of a cute little dive bar, and super friendly staff, but what's going to keep us coming back for our whole vacation is the FOOD! Easily the most interesting menu in Manitowoc, from a city girl's perspective, with well thought out and executed dishes. We had the exact same problems with service that other low reviews described. It was impossible to get someone's attention. It was impossible to get our beverages refilled.

We arrived with hungry children, and they would not let me put it in order for fries for the kids because they keep a list in their heads about who is allowed to order when (and seem irritated I didn't know about their made-up system that no other restaurant uses). It was probably 25 minutes after we sat down that we allowed to order food. It was a full hour until the food arrived at the table from when we sat down.

At the end, despite asking directly by going up to a server, I could not get someone to bring our check, and we waited and waited, and then I had to get up and get it at the bar directly.

The food is very slow to come out, and the staff seems to be know this, so they've devised some kind of approach to slow down taking orders from everyone in the bar. That said, the way we were treated, it doesn't make any sense why they are unable to just be pleasant and check on people and put a pitcher of water on the table if they don't plan to come back. I would only recommend this restaurant if you plan to sit at the bar, and don't need to be anywhere for a good stretch of time.

There are many systems that would improve the functioning of this establishment if they are always short staffed, like setting up a "refill your own water system" or letting people order and pay via QR code, or just hiring an actual waitress. I would never go back until they've made meaningful changes.

Ryan’s on York never disappoints! I recently went for a birthday, and even though they don’t take reservations, we managed to track down enough space to fit our group — totally worth the wait.

My go-to is the Forbidden Naan — it's one of those dishes you find yourself craving long after the meal is over. That said, I’ve got my eye on the Noodles of the Month for next time. Every visit, I *mean* to order their insanely delicious fried cheese with raspberry compote… and somehow, I always forget.

The atmosphere is relaxed but lively, perfect for celebrating or just enjoying great food. Highly recommend checking it out if you’re in the area.

Had my first visit to Ryan’s on York, and it definitely won’t be my last! I went with the mahi mahi street tacos, which were absolutely on point—fresh, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. My dinner companion had the naan feature wrap with mojo pork, which was a bit messy but completely worth it—delightfully seasoned and satisfying.

What really makes this place stand out, though, is the service. The staff is not only exceptional at what they do but also bring great energy and banter, making the experience feel welcoming and fun. I recently visited Ryan's In York at 712 York St, in Manitowoc, WI. I had read the menus before I got there so I knew something good was on my lunch plans. Stopped on our way through town! Had a super kind bartender welcome us right away when we sat down at the bar. She made us feel at home! The interior is unassuming in here, but the food is not. In Manitowoc for the maritime museum, and this place was close by. The menu looked unique and had good reviews. We got the Caribbean Burger, Katsu Melt and shared the RoY Fries. Everything tasted great and the portions were perfect for the price! I even took half my sandwich home (it was great in the air fryer). The only downside was that they got busy towards the end of our meal. It was sometime since they checked in on us, so we decided to go up to the bar to pay/ask for a to-go box. Prior to that they were very attentive (bartender and busboy). Can’t help a busy day! I’m happy to see thriving businesses. 🙂 We absolutely want to come back when we go to the art museum to try some of their bowls (San Fran Noodles in particular). Yum!

Awesome staff -- let's start there! They were very knowledgeable about veganism even warning me about their wheat noodles which have egg whites (they subbed San Fran noodles -DELICIOUS). They were very friendly and very attentive; I appreciate it!
The fries I ordered, to eat there while I waited for my food, were hand cut, crispy and a great starter.
I ordered the spicy noodles to go. The noodles were so good, the tofu was cooked just right -- the only issue was the dish was too spicy, like beyond edible - I still ate it because those noodles and tofu were on point. I think an addition of teriyaki bowl is in order - wink, wink*
The tofu upcharge for $5 is pretty expensive.
I will DEFINITELY be back to try some other choices they offer.

Tiny local favorite. Can be crowded, but always worth the wait. Regular favorite is the Forbidden Naan. The Grain Bowl is like the Forbidden Naan without the naan. Other favorites are the Katsu Melt and the Seoul Tacos.
We are always amazed at what this little kitchen puts out. There is always a really fun and eclectic selection of beers on tap, too.
There is limited seating inside, a few spots outside too. Check out the pinball machine in the back, darts, and some other games. We love the different options of fries. Recently we enjoyed fried veggie dumplings that were awesome, too.

Second time there, the service was super slow. Waited 10 min for someone to take our order and 30 min for 1 sandwich and had to end up taking my food to go. I was super hungry and had a 1.5 hour drive home. An extremely impaired patron did a face plant on her way to the bathroom and spilled our beverage all over the table and the person I was with. No apologies by anyone. I had to ask for a bar towel and I was handed a paper towel.

We live On the east side of Milwaukee and I'm telling you this restaurant Is awesome. I wish We had a restaurant in Milwaukee like this one. We were there last night for dinner with two other people. A GEM 💎 of a place with an unbelievable beer list and some very nice mocktails! Shared some apps after the SS Badger voyage. Amazing server doing it all for a large crowd, welcoming and gracious! Had a mocktail each & shared 3 apps: the roasted Brussel Sprouts, Beets with walnuts & green onions, and the Garlic Parm Fries - just perfect! Highly recommend, very easy on the pocketbook at $75 total with hefty tip for 3. Lots of V, GF, & Veg choices.

I had the best gyro of my life at Ryan’s today. The sauce was out of this world! Service was outstanding. I hear the Cuban is awesome also. Recommend to anyone who loves trying new flavors. Roasted Brussels sprouts are my favorite veggie now. I will be back! Thank you to the friendly staff!

The service at the bar is terribly slow. The help would rather talk amongst themselves then serve customers. I’m sitting here now and my waitress/bartender keeps walking by without noticing I’m trying to pay and without offering anything. Fries were served cold and terrible. I’d like to give them an out and say it’s busy but the staff just like to talk amongst themselves.

Ryan's On York left me pleasantly surprised for a seemingly simple bar. We were greeted as soon as we walked inside by friendly staff. The menu had limited variety with fair prices. The food left me feeling happy after eating it unlike most bar food that weighs you down. I'd recommend giving this place a visit if you have a smaller party, as it isn't the biggest place.

Was passing through town and had no idea where to stop and eat. Am I glad I decided to stop here. I wanted to try something deferent and the bartender suggested three items to chose from. I decided on the San Fran noodles with Katsu chicken and it was truly amazing. ! will definitely stop back for the other two suggestions!!

I love to just up and run away and find great places to eat and sight see! Today I decided to go to Manitowoc and have a drink and some food at a random spot..and this spot did not disappoint 🍻🙌 the different craft beer selection was on point and rotates regularly...the fried tofu app was on point! And the Nan w black rice and beef tenderloin and cabbage w garlic aioli was 🤤which I did not get to take a picture of was soo mouth watering! The Bartender on duty was very friendly and helpful and I will definitely be returning!

Awesome food flavors with a unique selection of dishes. A well rounded menu of bottled and canned beers.
No picture to show. I ate it too fast. Chicken Katzu featuring black pepper aioli and pickled carrots accent each other perfectly on a breaded chicken breast.
Pictured now is the Lava of Your Eyes fries not for the weak of heart. Featuring Dragon's Breath. Soo goood! Another fine meal and a reason to return.

The food is unforgettable!
When we first walked in, the atmosphere seemed a bit plain, but don't let it fool you. The menu is full of creative and flavorful dishes that you won't find anywhere else in the area. Our server was an absolute sweetheart and we even had a sneaky view of the kitchen staff who looked like they really enjoyed what they were doing.
We live in Chicago, but we can't wait to stop again the next time we head up north.

The food was average. I feel they try making amazing combinations with cheap sysco food and it just turns out bland. Then they charge a fortune for it. It’s also not the biggest place to sit in and be comfortable. It’s too small of place for people to be packing in there on a Friday or Saturday night. Also, the service was god awful. There’s a younger woman with red hair I believe who works there that was dating one of my bfs friends a while back and I guarantee she ignored us for that single reason. She saw us waving her down multiple times, turn away and continue taking care of patrons that came in after us. Absolutely cringe.
