They would have better service if they didn't treat there staff so badly. I never worked there but I have lived in this county for about 40 yrs. And some of my friends told me how while they were guests there they heard them talking to the staff. It was demeaning and actually cruel. More than one has told me this. And some of the staff that quit said same. And a friend applied but was treated like a 2nd class citizen. Got a job at a different bar that paid better and she became manager as well. These folks lost out. I never write bad reviews. Unless it really needs to be addressed.

Passing through Northern Wisconsin on 7/30/25 @5pm and decided to stop here to try get some food. Walked inside and took a seat at the bar. The place was practically empty. 1 table of 3 and 4 people sitting together at the bar. As we sat there waiting for someone, anyone to come over we had made eye contact with 3 employees standing around literally doing nothing. After 5
minutes of waiting and the bartender completely ignoring us we left. I'm guessing that the 2 might have been servers but we weren't in their section so they didn't bother. Don't waste your time here.

Impressed would be an understatement! Their AC had gone out and was just fixed this afternoon. The restaurant was extremely hot and the kitchen was even hotter. What a joke this place caters to their regulars clearly we sat there hardly being noticed until we were ready to eat our arms. Ordered our food chicken Phillies with bacon. We got our food & there was never “how is your food?”
How was everything until we were ready to get our tab at that point I never got bacon on my sandwich nor did the heavyset older bartender give two shits about it. It was then that she brought bacon on a plate🤦‍♀️😂😳🤦‍♀️. And said maybe you could have this for breakfast. Then she proceeded to charge us for the bacon
😂😂😂 my fiancé said, but we are not paying for the bacon that she did not get her sandwich so she adjusted the bill and quickly TOOK the bacon back that she brought out to us after the fact very very tacky! Never once asked us if we wanted more drinks NOT ONCE!!! What a joke!

We went for lunch at 1:30 on a Tuesday afternoon and ordered the cheeseburger special, which came with pickles, lettuce, tomato, onion and a side (onion rings & waffles fries). $8/each? Seriously? Took the family for dinner, everyone so polite and service was great. We tried all the platters. Pork, brisket, chicken, and kids had burgers, Macanudo cheese, they came with several sides, and we tried them all. Everything was so good. Definitely going back again.
Can't say enough about the food, but I want to say that the service was best I have had in ages never had to wait for anything soon as our glasses were getting low they were there to see if needed refills. My 10 yr old son loved the Mac and cheese so much they gave him another helping. In all love this place

We held the 2024 WHS All School Reunion at the SS on 7/18/24. The SS is such a nice venue! The food (planned buffet) was terrific! Stopped in for lunch, I ordered the brisket Mac and cheese bowl and the wife ordered the pulled pork bowl. Food arrived in identical bowls, the wife's bowl was spilling over the sides while mine was barely half full ... and was $3 more. When the waitress asked "can I get you anything else" I said yes ... the rest of my meal !! How ?? how do you send out two bowls to the same table looking that way ? As far as the brisket ... your welcome everyone else ... the fat cap is all gone. Mac and cheese with gelatinous fat rolling around in it. Pork bowl was dry and bland ... thank God for the jalapenos in it cuz that's all you could taste. This was our first time at the Salty Steer, formally The Fishbowl. We went on the 4th of July just before fireworks. The bartender was alone behind the bar and he was also our waiter. Artie was as pleasant as anyone could be, smiling and very friendly and responded to our questions helpfully. However, when a waitress brought out our appetizer and we asked her for some napkins, she looked at us like she had no idea what a napkin was or else how dare we ask her for some, she just kind stared into space for a minute. Artie brought our drinks and was still all smiles. A second waitress brought our food and I was the only one at the table at that moment and I asked her what she had so I would know where to set the food down, she said I don't know what's what, you ordered it you figure it out. Both waitresses need to consult Artie on tableside manners.
But food was good, drinks were strong according to one of our party, and we will go back.

I don’t like to leave bad reviews but my husband and I had a horrible experience. We ordered cheese curds, a grilled chicken sandwich and a brisket cheesesteak. Both meals seemed to have been just microwaved. They sure have the frying down as the waffle fries and cheese curds were delicious, however we never received ranch to go with our cheese curds even after asking another server for it. Our server never checked on us or gave us a second drink. He simply took our order and gave us our bill after a long wait. We waited for a long time for him to run our card and were sick of waiting and had a crying baby, so we just left cash. I wouldn’t recommend.

I’m giving them two stars because they are new and hopefully they will iron out the wrinkles in the staff and service. Or else it would have been one star. We also were disappointed when half of the menu is brisket and you aren’t you don’t have any brisket. Your going to need a dependable menu and food delivery service. I will change my review in a couple months when I return and hopefully they will get better. They figured out the Rec but this place seems to have bigger issues.

Definitely would have given it a 4 star for food! The food was delicious. The service was absolutely horrible! It took about 20 minutes to get our drinks and the waitress coming back to our table 4 times to ask us what we wanted because she forgot. Our food came out and it was wrong (but quickly fixed). And nobody came back to our table after that! Not to ask us how our food was or to see if we wanted another drink. We waited for our bill for about a half hour before we went to a different waitress to get it.
