Love the creative sandwich menu! The made- in- house fries and sauces were delicious (parm aoli !!!) The chips were crispy salty perfection. The side salad dressing(grapefruit vinaigrette) surprised me- I wasn't expecting to like it as much as I did. My family and I were passing through Janesville and needed a yummy quick lunch spot- Sandwich Bar absolutely delivered. Incredible place! I can't think of anywhere I've had a better sandwich. I got the smoked tomato club and it was so, so good. Our server told us how they cold-smoke the tomatoes and it was so delicious. The fries were also amazing, fresh and crispy without being overly greasy. I can't really believe this place exists in Janesville, although that probably shows my own ignorance. We came from out of town, and I wish I had it in my neighborhood! We had excellent service ... Very friendly and prompt, and enthusiastic to tell us all about their food. Anthony Bourdain was playing on TV while we were there, and a mural of him and Julia Child were on the walls. It is clear these people love food, and it shows in every part of the experience!

This was a very cute, eclectic place. My waitress was pleasant. Ordered the Muffuletta with fries. It had just a little too much olive tapenade for my taste as it overpowered the flavors a bit, but the ingredients were good! Including the bread. The garlic aioli was very flavorful. Really enjoyed the fries too.

The food is superior!!! Everything is freshly made and can be customized to order. If you have food allergies or other restrictions, they have dedicated areas in their kitchen for non cross contamination. You have to get the fries! You just have to!!! Fresh. Fried to perfection. Oh so yummy. And if you like fried shrimp, get the shrimp poor boy sandwich. Totally out of this world!

Our server was friendly and very knowledgeable about every single item on the menu. We were well taken care of while at the Sandwich Bar restaurant. The prices were not outrageous for the amount of food that you get. We had so much food that we took our leftovers with us for a nice little snack later that day.

I would definitely recommend to everyone, when you're in Janesville, or just passing through, be sure to stop in at the Sandwich Bar. You'll be glad you did. I know I'll be back... Yum!!!

I have been wanting to try Creole/Cajun food for years but haven't found a place around that serves it. I drove by Sandwich Bar a few weeks ago and looked them up only to find they had a special event to serve this specific food! While I've never tried traditional NO food, I can say this was made with great skill and experience. I absolutely loved the Shrimp Etouffee with Crawfish! The manager even taught me how to open the shell, while the bartender was exceptionally courteous. Highly recommend!

The sandwich I just ate here is going straight into my sandwich hall of fame. Yes, I have a sandwich hall of fame. It's not an actual building or anything, just a special corner of my hippocampus where I keep the memories of particularly perfect sandwiches. I’m so used to being underwhelmed by sandwich joints, it felt almost disorienting to have such a great experience at the Sandwich Bar. We had the shrimp po boy and the tuna melt and both were spectacular. The shrimp were huge and not over-battered. The sauces, seasonings, and sides (which are afterthoughts at most places) were fantastic and clearly had real thought put into them. Service was perfect. Extremely pricey and the fries were way way too salty. Surprisingly small drink menu considering they're just a bar half the time they're open.

But everything else was good, especially the parmesan aioli with the fries. The fried turkey skin on the triple turkey sandwich was unique and tasty.

Editing to say that I went back and it was again a 3 star visit. The meatloaf sandwich is just weird, partly tex-mex with meatloaf? Doesn't really work well, and the meatloaf was kinda cold and old. Cocktail drinks are just OK, rather strong but very bland. Again, the fries and aioli saved the meal.

We love this place. We (my wife and I) have tried most of their menu, and everything has been excellent. We make an effort to go once a week, and from their ramen to their fish fry, it's all amazing. That Bahn Mi was maybe the worst sandwich I've ever received. "Marinated pork belly" was more like tiny overcooked chicharron, all char no meat, no cilantro, no jalepeno, giant carrot sticks and very little aioli to offset the bitter acidic char of the overcooked protein and to top it off a side salad with no fork or dressing. $23 of pure dissappointment, took one bite and threw away. The Sandwich Bar is a real gem! The food is flavorful and they’re always working on new ideas. The French fries with onion dip are ridiculously good, as are the Decatur cheese curds. The staff is friendly and helpful. I’ve been really enjoying the Shrimp Boy sandwich with slaw on top. It started out as a special for Mardi Gras and it was so popular they kept it. They have travel-themed food nights, special ramen days, and Japanese street food with karaoke events. If you wanted to hang out for a while, there are a variety of games free to play. The kids menu is really good, too. Its one of my favorite places to eat in town.

I was looking for a good sandwich for my ride home from skiing a couple weeks ago, and The Sandwich Bar came up in my search and looked really good. I was by myself and regretfully chose not to stop and just grabbed a sandwich from a chain restaurant.
Fast forward two weeks, my family and I are making the same drive and I convinced them that we needed to stop here. Everyone absolutely loved their sandwiches. Tony couldn’t be nicer, and he has an awesome scratch kitchen sandwich shop. Well worth the detour on our way back to Chicago. The drinks are good, and the service was great - I felt bad, as there was only one person serving all the tables and making all the drinks, but he did a wonderful job. We’ve gotten the fish fry a few times, and it was one of the best we’ve had. The batter was so flavorful and crispy! Unfortunately, they recently changed the batter, and it’s flavorless and somewhat soggy. I’m so disappointed! It doesn’t look anything like the pictures anymore. Went for the Friday Fish Fry and it sid not disappoint. The batter was well seasoned, crisp, and in good proportion to the fish. The fish flaky, moist, and was not greasy at all. The tartar sauce was delicious, not just some mayo with pickles. The coke slaw was absolutely delicious, not dry or coated in Mayo. I only wish they served a larger portion of the slaw. The fries are great and the aioli sauce is great. Talking with the cooks, the tartar, Cole slaw, and aioli are all made on site each day. I had my little dog in my arms, but just wanted to quick place order and was going to wait outside. I understand that dogs are not allowed, but the way I was approached was really rude. Definitely more worried about being trendy than serving actual food. Waitress did just fine. Spent 36 dollars on the worst experience I’ve had with food. Got the Balboa. The Au jaus was dumped over the sandwich so the only part that wasn’t bread pudding consistency was the top crunchy area from grilling. Went to eat it and realized only half the sandwich had meat in it. The pepporcini stuff tasted nothing like the pepper. Had no flavor. All I could taste was the pork that was very off putting. Spent 2$ to sub in fries and got barely anything. Looked like someone dumped out the bottom of a McDonald’s bag on the tray. Nothing like the pictures in other reviews. Wife got the same thing and hers was the exact same. Whatever the white stuff for dipping fries was had curdles in it. That maybe normally like that though. I’m not a picky person with food but that was just gross. Still tipped the waitress like normal cause she did her job fine. Should have known the red flag when all they had on tap was ipa’s. Went to Dairy Queen after and had ice cream. After all that I can’t get the pork flavor out of my mouth.

My husband and I stopped in on a whim one evening and were not disappointed! He had the triple turkey and I tried the Banh Mi and we split a truffle fries. Everything was amazing! We'd go back for the fries alone! Highly recommend!

First-time visitor. Not what I expected. Better. A tastey chicken sandwich that looked too filling with fries and two ales. Surprisingly, not heavy in the stomach. Perfect fuel for the 7.75-mile hike I was about to start.

Fantastic food and drinks! Specials are fun and creative and may get you out of your comfort zone; but they are totally worth the adventure. As a person that is allergic to gluten I felt very welcome and the Sandwich Bar was very accommodating. Highly recommend!

I was disappointed with the food especially after they said it was inspired by Turkey and the Wolf in New Orleans. Check your bill before you pay. We were in a hurry and didn’t check and were charged for a coke no one ordered or received. Consider someplace else

The roast beef sandwich was absolutely delicious. It had ingredients I would never have paired together, but the end result is sweet & flavorful. Highly recommend you go there. We’ll definitely be returning.

The Sandwich Bar is a welcome addition to downtown Janesville. Run by (I believe) the same team that handles the incredible Lark down the street, this is a different but still worthwhile experience. More laid back, this is a spot to have good food, play some games with friends and grab a cocktail or two. The sandwiches are more humble affairs, but due to their heritage still have great taste, unique combos and a semi rotating specials menu. If you're looking for a spot to have some good food, good drinks, and good times with friends, this is a great choice.

Pleasantly surprised, really good chicken sandwich, had to change my review though after a few visits. Fries aren't as good as they used to be and definitely not worth $6 esp for the amount you get. And $14 for a chicken sandwich, even though it's good it's not worth that price either. $20 for lunch with no drink for non steak is a bit much

This was a great experience. I was not expecting much when I stopped in for a quick sandwich. Having just moved to Janesville I had the prior impression it was just a deli but boy, was I wrong. The atmosphere was intimate and the menu items were relatively few but very creative. This place is an example that if you do a few things well, it is better than doing a lot at the mediocre level. I had the Jolene for take away. When the package was handed to me a snuck a pinch-full and was amazed by the flavor. These guys know what they are doing! The service was excellent even though it was only one guy taking orders, mixing drinks, and bussing tables. Oh, yeah, while I did not partake, they have a full bar and some very creative craft cocktails as well. I'll definitely be back.

Wow! Absolutely delish! First time here but not the last. We had the Tony's Pork Tenderloin sandwich and the daily special of a gyro sandwich. Their fries with parmesan aioli are my new addiction on steroids! Seriously could not stop eating them. I will be recommending this place to ALL my foodie friends 😋

Came with the gf she got the soup and balboa both were great. I got one of the chicken sandwiches huge chicken breast you can barely take a bite out of it super crispy good sauce. Fries had alot of flavor and the white sauce that came with it was great.

The Fat Tuesday menu was great. The muffuletta was one of the best I’ve had. The crispy focaccia and tangy olive salad on top set this one apart. Sandwich Bar brings sandwiches to a whole new level!

Purchased three different sandwiches, only one was good. Tony's tenderloin was crunchy and the sauce was delicious. The chopped chicken, dry, no flavor, veggies were hard and flavorless and not worth $18.00! The jackfruit torta, pineapple tasted old, they left the seeds in the fruit and super small for the price. Over all, I should of gotten my money back. Not worth $50.00!!! I only gave one star because of the tenderloin. Don't waste your money, I won't be back.

Cute little sandwich shop. Modern, unique ambience throughout. It is tiny but they definitely made the most of it. We were expecting an array of sandwiches to choose from. However, the sandwiches are quite limited and definitely not something I would recommend for people with children. Good set for a lunch date.
