El restaurante esta en decadencia, algo que siento que caracteriza a un restaurante mexicano son los chips y la salsa y ellos ahora la estan vendiendo a 2 dolares. Enserio por dos dolares pierdieron al menos un cliente (yo).
Ahora si quieres que tu machete sea mitad y mitad tiene que ser el de 30 inch, cual es la diferencia si igual van a calentar las dos carnes?. No se, al menos en mi gusto este lugar va para abajo. Triste porque era muy bueno

We were in town for work & am so happy to have found this spot while googling for dinner ideas for our group (6) with a range of dietary needs (vegan, vegetarian, gluten free in the mix). I called to see if their beans/rice had any meat broth/lard & was assured they were vegetarian! Everyone was happy with their food - the salsas, the margaritas, the guacamole, the entrees ( I had the chili relleno - photo) were delicious! We all agreed it was a favorite of the week & we will be back next visit. What a hidden gem in the heart of downtown Madison. Go.

Very nice staff, and the food was even better! My wife got a Rojo and a Verde tamale, and they were loaded with flavor. I chose the taco plate with carne asada, which also came with rice and beans. They are up there with the best tacos I've had! The salsa they offer were great flavor to pair with the tacos. We shared an horchata (IT WAS AMAZING) and we also got churros for dessert, and they were fabulous. I would recommend this if you love true authentic Mexican food! Great spot.

This is my first time leaving a review for this awesome local restaurant, even though I have eaten at senor machetes for years and we have been doing take out as a special weekend treat every other month .

I love their food . Full stop . This take out version was no exception . The machetes are so filling yet the quality is outstanding. Huaraches with steak is also another staple that I like to order. Gluten free is the majority of their food so that is an extra plus . Always make sure to get a side of guacamole and their homemade tortilla chips . So good ! Their guacamole is chunky and seasoned perfectly .

I will continue to recommend this place to people when they are in Madison as it has been a rotating staple for us .

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. If you are looking for authentic Mexican food in Madison this is it. Visited Señor Machetes once we friends and we loved it. Great food, FANTASTIC service! We have two small kids and spent all day exploring Madison. My wife just wanted some chips and queso. We walked by Senor Machetes, but needed to get the kids to bed. We decided to Doordash the order to our hotel two blocks away. After our dasher went MIA, I cancelled the order and decided to walk down there myself. After I started placing my order, they recognized me as the Doordash order and went above and beyond to make sure I was taken care of. The way they treated me was if I was a regular and not an out of town visitor. The chips and queso definitely hit the spot after a long day and we will definitely be back the next time we are in Madison for a proper sit down meal.

We had such a good lunch! The machete was where it is at. The skirt steak was really well seasoned and very tender! The machete and the Queso Vaquero Blanco together were definitely enough food for two. Very disappointed in my recent visit here. The service was the worst I've had in Madison so far. We had to consistently ask for cups of water without receiving them (usually the first thing a restaurant offers), they messed up our dinner orders, and charged us for an extra tip amount that was not included on the receipt or communicated to us verbally, so we ended up double tipping.
The restaurant wasn't even busy, and the waitstaff was inattentive. I didn't even get a lime for my Corona beer. After asking they brought one, but when I ordered another beer there was no lime...again! Then I was charged for the limes after. Crazy! The prices were also expensive for the food you get. Will not be coming back.

My family of 6 had an amazing dinner experience recently. The waitstaff were very accommodating and pushed 2 tables together for us. Margaritas were good and refills arrived swiftly. We tried a couple appetizers to share for the table and were not disappointed. The waitstaff suggested adding the roasted corn to the Queso Vaquero Blanco and it was a hit with us all. The Chicharrones were served piping hot and added a nice crunch while we waited for our entrees. The fajitas were sizzling upon arrival to the table and smelled delicious. I had the machete with chorizo and was not disappointed! Try the house-made hot sauce it is a great blend of flavors with a touch of heat. Went perfectly with our entrees. 18% gratuity is added to the bill during dinner service, which was no bother since we received great service during our meal.

Not so here but a hand made tortilla with meat and a few veggies, avocado is extra. Taste was good but i can't get over that I'm eating a large (9") taco. We had a Margarita ($14) each. Some days Margaritas are 2x1. Total bill was over $70 +tip.

We sat outside, if you have 3 or more people you’re not going to be comfortable as you have to shift plates all the time since tables are so small. The food was good, had chicarrones as appetizer and a toña. Not kid friendly if you’re sitting outside, there is a cigar bar next door and the smoke can get in the way. I would be back but without kids

It was so so. Not horrid but not great. We had margaritas and it seemed like just juice with minimal to no alcohol. Food seemed rather bland, not very flavorful as you find in most Mexican cuisine.

Awful. Gross. Super low quality. I work and eat on the square all the time. My pals and I were extremely disappointed with our first (and last) visit. Firstly they brought out complimentary chips and salsa which were so obviously store bought low quality food items. We all legit agreed that they opened up packages from the Grocery store and put them in bowls for us. So gross. They didn’t even get better quality store bought things ! Literally lowest tier. Don’t even get me started on the margaritas…. Sugary Kool aid , with no taste of alcohol whatsoever. Again, obviously a super cheap store bought mix. Tasted like diabetes in a glass. My other pal got sangria which looked like cloudy white wine. Awful. We took a couple sips and bites and got out ASAP, did not finish anything. Will not be back. Ever. Sooooo many better places. Please learn how to make a real margarita.

Horrible service and they nickel and dime you.

We sat at a table for 20 minutes before the waitstaff acknowledged us. It was not even overly busy when we sat down. It was 30 minutes before they brought us water. They charged us $4.50 for chips and salsa even though this was brought to the table without request. They charged us $0.75 for a small dish of sour cream. They charged us a “mandatory” 20% gratuity when there was only four of us at the table. None of these hidden charges were disclosed ahead of time. We will not be going back.

My reply to the Owner... Instead of trying to refute my claims, how about you research my transaction and hold your team accountable. You should reach out to me directly to rectify the situation.

Food was amazing. Service was poor. Staff seemed confused at what a server had to do. Like bring water, bring food, take orders for food. All these seemed to be a big hassle for them. Food was top notch. Maybe just grab take out.

I've been here a couple times and the service is always spot on. I ordered the Tonas with grilled steak. My buddy ordered the 16 machete and really I don't know where he can put it. Obviously both were plate clean worthy.
