My first time at Sern Sapp was a ticketed Lao community meal. It was served family style at a long table with about 16-20 other guests. The owner, Son talked about each dish and gave details about ingredients, preparation and history. He also highlighted the differences between the ingredients available in the US vs Laos. After the meal we got to meet the head chef, who happens to be his wife from Laos.
The whole experience was wonderful, the food was authentically amazing and the staff & guests were all friendly and engaging. I’ve already signed up for the next event. Community and cultural experiences like this in Madison deserve everyone’s support to keep growing.

Wonderful place to try authentic Lao food! The house-made noodles are amazing, and the soup noodle flight is a must-try. I also really appreciated how clean the proteins were — both the chicken and beef were lean, not heavy or fatty at all. So many unique flavors you won’t find anywhere else in town!
This is a great place for private events as well.

Cozy place with authentic Lao food. Tuesdays are soup flight specials and Saturdays are soup days, a bunch of variety to choose from, best is the noodles are made in-house!

Some of the best noodle soups I've had in Madison. I had the Khao Soi and it was really delicious! my partner's soup was also great. The soups come with a full array of condiments and chili oil. We were also given a little dish with mango and coconut custard at the end of the meal, which was a nice touch 😊

One of the best and most flavorful restaurants in Madison. The soup broth is so good, it’s light but still full of flavor. The waitress was also very sweet. Overall, I loved it and will definitely be going back.

There’s something very comforting in a delicious and healthy bowl of hot noodles for breakfast. So far, I’ve tried Khao Poon Ga Ti, Khao Soi, and Pho. Each has been outstanding! A cup of hot tea and a small bowl of mangos with coconut milk provide a perfect complement to the flavorful broth that you can season to your taste. Add a friendly, family atmosphere that can make you feel like an honored guest and a lively view of Willy Street, and you have a magical Madison morning moment.

I love this restaurant! Song the owner and his family are caring in the caring service, fresh ingredients, and delicious Laotian dishes he prepares! We tried the dumplings and crepes…tasty tender and delicious.

For entrees we had curry and pho (although I can’t remember the proper names ) each dish had a great depth of flavors that tasted like a slow cook to develop the rich favors. It was amazing!

After the entrees Song brought us a beautiful cooling summer soup made with coconut milk, fresh corn, and grass jello…it was sweet, cool, and refreshing… it was a delightful unexpected treat!

Try the lemon grass tea too!…wonderful and soothing.

Best Restaurant in Madison. Lunch started with complementary sea grass tea. I had Or Gati - a rich curry dish with a hint of turmeric powder, mixed with carrot, eggplant, onion, bamboo, and green beans served with a side of jasmine rice, fresh basil and either soup or salad. Protein choices were beef, chicken, pork, and tofu. I chose pork. This was absolutely delicious. The ingredients were fresh and organic. And the restaurant itself is clean.

This is the ONLY place I've been to in the US that offers pho for breakfast outside of my mother-in-law's house, so its existence is justified entirely from that. But the pho itself was incredible! Included all the proteins you'd expect (steak, meatballs, tripe, tendon) and had a deep and rich flavor.

Khao piak sen was also nice with the noodles being the perfect level of chewy.

Palate cleanser of fresh mango after the meal was unexpectedly great. We will definitely be back to check out more of the menu

I cannot say enough about how good the food is here and suffice it to say, my family and I will be making Sern Sapp a regular staple in our East Madison restaurant rotation.

We had a chance to check Sern Sapp out on their second day of soft opening. We were greeted warmly by Son the owner and his family. Upon walking in, you immediately understand that this place is a family affair and a labor of love. Son and his family graciously walk you through the menu and explain the regional specifics of each dish. The menu is thoughtfully curated and limited to a handful of traditional Lao soups, curries and noodles dishes, all of them totally unique, even when compared to the other Lao eateries in town. Thankfully every dish that we've ordered was fantastic. The Khao Soi was earthy and rich, kind of reminiscent of a Loa version of Pho, but with wide rice noodles and fermented bean paste. It was filled with pork, herbs, beans sprouts and needless to say, I was obsessed with it all way down to the bottom of the bowl! My son got a curry with soma noodles -- the curry was rich and delicious. My wife's rice and tofu dish was so fresh and lovely-- she had high praise for it. Son also treated us to some Lao beef jerky to eat with sticky rice, which was to die for. All in all, it was a stellar lunch and we can't wait to go back.

Just a note: they're cash only for now. Treat them kindly as they get their bearings on being new restauranteurs!

WOW! We happened to see the open sign for their soft opening today and decided to try it. So glad we did, everything was amazing! We got the salad and the fresh rolls, along with an iced coffee, pho, curry noodles, and the veggies and rice with crispy tofu. I can't remember all the names in Lao, but everything was FANTASTIC. Fresh flavors, fresh ingredients, great atmosphere. The service was fast, friendly, and the prices are great. One in our party has a sesame allergy and they happily accommodated us. Do yourself a favor and come try this food, it is 🔥
