We drove 35 mins to Smokey's because we heard good things. We did not call ahead so when we got there at 6:25 pm they said we could have a reservation time of 8pm. We agreed and sat at the bar area awaiting our turn. Greg the bartender super aware and quick with how busy it was..that was not my issue. My issue is when regulars walk in and are seated while we waited..and waited..once 8:30 hit with tables empty and we were obviously not being seated and completely forgot we left. So basically if you are an out of towner maybe avoid this place because they will avoid you!!! At the end of the day the bartender is great the rest of the staff is unaware and I have no clue how the food was since we never got to sit down.

We stopped by on a Thursday night. We didn't have a reservation but only one couple was in the restaurant area eating. About 8 people were in the bar. We were told it would be an 2 hr wait. They did offer us to eat in the bar. We were told "the food is good in the bar area". We ended up at Aberdeens which was very good. We ended up driving by an hour later and the parking lot at Smokey's was still mostly open. Disappointing but at least Aberdeens served us and were treated well by them.

We chose Smokey's to celebrate our anniversary. Every experience was a good one. Barb our server was the best, took care of everything in a unobtrusive way and efficiently. They were very busy but we never felt rushed. Food was superb, I loved the lobster bisque, delicious. My husband had the stroganoff, he loved it as well. And to top off the whole experience, we received a complimentary dessert in celebration of our anniversary. It was a completely wonderful experience dining at Smokey's.

The quality just seems to have gone downhill. The salads are extremely basic and cheaply made. The rice with the lamb was very dry, just seems like it was a mix out of a bag. While the lamb tasted good itself, the Dijon was very over powering. I can just tell it's a lot of cheap ingredients, and for the price I would just expect more

Last thing that really got me was I made a reservation 3 weeks ago for 630pm for my girlfriend's birthday. When we got there at 630 we were told our table wasnt ready because someone was still sitting there. We were told it would just be a few minutes but we didn't get seated until 7pm. I would expect a reservation to reserve a table...not just waiting for one to clear up upon arrival

I loved everything about this place! I had a birthday dinner here and our server— Lori (I think) was incredibly nice and attentive. We began with an appetizer of bacon wrapped scallops and I then had the French onion soup. Prime rib was my entree and it was cooked absolutely perfectly. For drinks I had a gin martini and then a brandy old fashioned with house marinated mushrooms. There was a pianist playing live music around the bar, and all of the guests were happy and the vibe just great. I would come back time and time again.

We went to Smokeys for our anniversary. We had made a reservation for a Saturday. We arrived early and went to have a drink at the bar and enjoy the wonderful atmosphere. The bartender realized it was our anniversary after she checked our reservation. Once she wished us a Happy Anniversary, the other people at the bar did the same. We all then got to know each other and enjoyed talking with each other. The piano player then came up to us at the bar to say that he recognized us from before. He wanted to play our first dance song from our wedding. It was turning out to be a wonderful evening at Smokeys. The problem came when we were given our bill. My husband had ordered a Manhattan made with Angels Envy. He has ordered this same drink for years in some of the best steak houses all over the country. Imagine our shock when we realized that one Manhattan was $31. My glass of wine was $9. We never could have imagined they would charge that much. I can buy a bottle of Angels for $34. I don't think that I have ever paid more than $18 for a drink in the North Woods. We then asked the bartender if the bill was correct. He looked a little uncomfortable and said " Didn't the other bartender tell you the price before she made it?" We said "No, she did not". That was the end of that. We didn't want to make a big deal about it and ruin the rest of our evening. Unfortunately, it pretty much ruined our dinner. The dinner was very good as it always is. We just still had a bad taste in our mouth. Had we been told the price of the drink, we would have ordered something else. We have gone to Smokeys for our anniversary for the last couple of years and have always been offered a dessert in honor of the occasion. No dessert was offered at our recent visit. I very rarely leave reviews. I had hoped the bartender would have done something in regards to the bill since the other bartender did not let us know the high price of Angels. We don't mind paying for things when we know what we are paying for. Hopefully, they will use this as a learning experience. We didn't have to drive 45 minutes for the experience.

Perfect Celebration Spot!

From the Shrimp Cocktail and Bacon Wrapped Scallops appetizers to the delicious Creme Brulee, Cheesecake and Bourbon Bread Pudding desserts we were nothing less than impressed with this elegant restaurant. Our hostess, Rae, was welcoming and kind and our server, Lori, was attentive and very friendly. The atmosphere was warm and inviting as well as had a family feel with the beautiful fireplace tucked away. We were also lucky enough to hear live music while we dined. The patio area and gardens were so beautiful to walk through before going inside.
If you are in the North Woods, we highly recommend eating at Smokey's! Everything was thought of to make our visit memorable, we will definitely be back soon.

I've been here five or six times and never had a bad meal. It's by far the best I've eaten in the Minocqua area. I'm not a big cocktail person, but I'd go back just for the pear martini. We had beef, lamb, and salmon and all were top quality and cooked exactly as ordered. The atmosphere is a nicely refined rustic. The background live piano is very pleasant, but keep an ear open and you might hear a few measures of something unexpected perfectly woven in. I'll definitely be back.

Superb service and excellent food, but subpar atmosphere (noise level). We are from a major metropolitan city (not Chicago), so are accustomed to a variety of restaurants and fine dining. We weren’t expecting a very noisy dining crowd at 8:30 pm on a Friday…so loud we couldn’t hear our server or each other. If we are paying $100 for a meal for 2 (without apps or deserts), I would hope for a calmer environment. I’ll gladly spend $40 at a bar and get less noise.

This place was really hyped up to us by the locals, but we were sadly let down by the mediocre food and careless pub-style service.
The blue cheese dressing on the salads was excellent, for sure, but my chicken was so dry I couldn't swallow it.
The salmon was good, but the mashed potatoes tasted poorly & were not fluffy, but tough. They had the consistency of being a day old.
The bread pudding was also recommended. We thought it was, once again, medicore, did not like the chocolate chips in it. Would've been better with cinnamon chips.

My wife and I, along with another couple, stopped by just to see if we could get a table last minute on a Saturday night and lucky for us they had a cancelation. The food, staff and ambiance was incredible. This was one of the best dinning experience my wife and I have had in quite a while. Fantastic diamond of a supper club hidden away in the northwoods! Going out here has become an annual family tradition for a decade now, and they've never failed to impress us once!

Plan to spend 2-3 hours enjoying the evening, depending on your preferred pace and size of party. The friendly atmosphere and service with a midwest, cozy flair is what elevates this fine dining to its own category. There's simply nothing else quite like it.

While reservations are not technically mandatory, you will really, really want one anytime during the summer season. They're very good about not over-crowding the dining room or kitchen, but that means normal times can be booked weeks in-advance. Holidays? A month or two.

This might seem bizarre for WI, but I assure you, it's worth it! I couldn't recommend them more highly for a memorable experience that will leave you smiling ear-to-ear.

I rarely write reviews but wanted to share my utmost appreciation for this restaurant, their staff, chef, and manager. My son has a severe anaphylactic egg allergy and when I made the reservation for our family, I asked to speak with a manager about ensuring his safety while dining with us. Due to covid, we rarely go out to restaurants anymore so this is unknown territory for our family.

The chef personally called me to review the menu items and ingredients that we were planning to order and spent a lot of time discussing the safety precautions that they would do at the restaurant to make sure that I felt safe about him eating there. I was incredibly grateful for her call and it provided me with peace of mind for my son.

When we arrived at the restaurant, the server was aware of his allergy and was very attentive and informative and also provided ingredient lists to me to review for peace of mind.

This was an excellent experience, I will definitely feel comfortable returning here with a severe allergy, and I cannot be more grateful for the thoughtfulness and time that went into making our dining experience safe. If anyone has a severe anaphylactic food allergy, just know that you can confidently dine here, as the staff has above and beyond attentiveness and attention to detail, along with, of course, the excellent food. Pretentious for no reason. We arrived at 4:30 on a Wednesday without a reservation. There were five people in the bar and two people in the dining room, but we waited for several minutes for the host to figure out whether or not we could be served. She made us feel unwelcome.

We were seated and, while the service was fine, it wasn't in line with the prices of the food (more on that in a minute). The waitress didn't know what the soups were like and couldn't tell us what the most popular dish is... and also seemed a little pretentious.

The food was not great and was way over priced. Seafood pasta was $37 and an 8 oz filet was $50. I'm willing to pay that for good food, but this was not it. Add in the mediocre service and the overall cheap feel of the place and I feel like I was robbed.

I'd call this more fine dining over a supper club...with tuxedo shirt clad servers and white linen tablecloths... but, it had a relish tray.

I opted for their signature pear martini. It's delicate flavor and chilled glass created a beyond smooth concoction.
He had the Brandy old fashioned sweet...complete with black cherry garnish.
The relish tray boasted olive tapinade, 2 kinds of cheese spread, grapes, cheese cubes, and a variety of crackers.
We went with soup over salad...his the pea and sausage, mine the herbed potato. Both were generous with masterfully diced greatness...his with a little bit of a bite.
His pan fried Canadian Walleye was fantastic and he kept it simple with a jacket potato.

I'm a fillet gal and this 8oz gem was perfectly cooked and draped with an incredible bearnaise sauce. I couldn't choose between the vegetable of the night: glazed carrots or the herbed potato wedges so I got both.🤭
The carrots were tender-crisp vs al dente (too raw yet) and had just the right enhanced sweetness level.
I really tried...but ended up with a take away box.
We couldn't even think about dessert...but loved the live piano player ❤

We were welcomed with open arms and felt appreciated for choosing Smokeys. Yes it's on the higher scale but it sure feels nice to treat yourself on your Anniversary. 38 years is worth celebrating and we were treated to Tiramisu. Lori our waitress was spectacular making us feel special, the bartenders were professional, the pianist was so pleasant, and the patrons friendly, the manager even said hello. What more could we ask for to make our day special?

Food was very marginal I thought very overpriced service was fine nice clean restaurant but what I went therefore I didn’t get so I probably won’t be returning. I see a lot of five star rating but evidently there’s no restaurants in that area that are any better better I And that’s a shame.I thought that $142 for three people no alcohol no dessert was a little bit much but I guess you can call me cheap but I’m not

The food was delicious! I had the salmon oscar and it was done to perfection. The staff was efficient and friendly. The only negative is that it was more crowded that I had expected and left feeling a bit nervous about being inside a restaurant with so many people during Covid.

Outstanding Cuisine! You must try it at least once. From the exterior woodsy appearance to the personal service our experience was amazing.

They take reservations for your dining experience simply because they are so popular. The simple clean elegance created an inviting atmosphere. We had white linen table cloths and fine glasses and table service.

Our celebration was a work anniversary of 23 years at the same employer. We enjoyed the custom relish tray included with meal. Fine cheese, Garlic bread, and olive spread. Yum! Our dinner rolls were fresh baked pretzel bread.

I found the pumpkin cream soup to be amazing. I ordered Salmon Oscar wirh shrimp, crab cakes and extra large Scallops. The Salmon was lightly crisped by a grill and outstanding in flavor, moist and flakey.

My wife had their signature prime rib with horseradish and au jus.

What an amazing meal. Well worth the planning to dine there.
