We went on a Friday evening (6 p.m.) without a reservation. We were able to get a table without having to wait. It was the last table available. The service was quick and the food was very good. My husband had broasted fish with fries and a bowl of chicken and black bean soup. The fries were crispy and hot. The fish and soup were both very good. I had a salad. It was also very good. We did not have dessert, because they were out of the cranberry orange cheesecake. Our server Elliot was excellent. This was our first time eating at this restaurant , but we will definitely be back.

Came here for a late lunch on a Fri afternoon. Greeted and seated right away by the bartender. Took over 5 min just to be acknowledged and brought water. Ordered drinks. Waited. Waited longer. Thought they forgot about us. It was NOT busy. Only a few booths with customers.

We asked to start with the spinach and artichoke appetizer. It was good, but barely warm. And our food came out immediately after the appetizer! Wish they would've timed that better so we could've enjoyed the app with our drinks. (I had the orange Old Fashioned which was very tasty and packed a nice whallop.)

I had the chicken Caesar wrap which was very good. Large, warm chunks of chicken, and the dressing I believe was homemade. Bits of pine nuts in the wrap gave it some interesting texture. I had the side of raw veggies which was nothing special, as you can see by the photo. Chunks of cauliflower, celery, carrots and grape tomatoes haphazardly on the plate. Totally non-appetizing.

My husband had the walleye, which was on their special of the day. When the server read us the specials, she mentioned cod and walleye and we could've sworn she said $18. My husband asked what the walleye came with and she said fries and a little thing of coleslaw. When we got the bill, we were shocked to see that we were charged $30 for one piece of walleye (!!!) plus an additional $3 for the fries (which were overdone, some burnt.) What the heck?! We asked our server about it nicely and she apologized, but...didn't offer to do anything about it so we let it go.

They also charge a service fee to use a credit card.

Our bill was $90. Absolutely ridiculous. We will never go to this place again when in the area nor recommend it to friends.

Went there for fish fry. They were out of Cod. Had the Walleye and husband had the Perch. The waitress never told us the price. Shocked when the bill came. $32 and $30 respectively. It was pretty much just a fish fry. Fries were very salty and very soggy. Fish was good but no more than a normal $15-$19 that you pay somewhere else. Crazy $$$$$.

I have been there multiple times for brunch. With anywhere between 3-7 people. Make a reservation on their website, otherwise you will be waiting for a table in the morning.
Food has always been spot on with plenty of it. I usually end up taking some home. Bloody Mary’s are delicious. Plenty of choices/specials for everyone. Never a doubt about going back.

Stopped in for a mini date night with the wife. The host was very nice. It was busy when we arrived so we decided to sit at the bar. The bartender was very friendly and openly engaged in conversation with us. I had the pork schnitzel and my wife had the Steak Poutine. Both meals were delicious. We will be back. Cheers

I wanted 2019 Sobies, I got 2025 Sobies. I was here after not being in for A couple years and sadly it seems to have gone down a notch or two from the first few years in business. To be expected I suppose but I was looking forward to showing my mother and mother in law a nice dinner for Mother’s Day and it was just decent. My drink order was messed up twice and I just left it alone the second time, ended up with rail bourbon in my cocktail and it gave me a stomachache. Staff was inconsistent and messy, food was pretty decent but not what I remember the first few times going. I realize inflation is a reality but the food quality vs cost wasn’t justified. I hope they do better, I’d give them another shot sometime if I knew things were improved upon. I’d give it 3.5 stars, I think it could come back as good as it once was

My expectations of Sobie’s might just be too high - I always leave disappointed. I have been there a couple of times, thinking maybe I just catch them on a bad day because I really want to like them - their menu looks great and they have a nice location. Two times I have made reservations and still had to wait to be seated (after the time of my reservation). The service is always slow and below subpar; the servers never present themselves professionally. And the food is just okay at best. To top it off, there was a piece of blue painters tape with a handwritten label stuck my plate. This will finally be the last time I go to Sobie’s.

Have reservations for 7, still waited until 7:20 or so to get seated. Waitress was very inattentive, seemed to go to every other table besides ours repeatedly. Roughly 7:45 we received our drink order. Claimed they had Korbel when the drink clearly was made with Bourbon but upcharged $2 for Korbel.
The beef tenderloin sandwich is a tiny piece of steak served on a piece of bruschetta. For $17. With a side of soup for a $2 upcharge. I requested medium and it came out medium rare. After over an hour and half left hungry and feeling ripped off.
There are better places to eat in this area with better customer service that won't break the bank like this place.

What a huge disappointment. This was a birthday celebration that left us irritated because the three issues didn't have to happen since they were directly related to poor customer service.
1) Attempted to seat us at a table of which the chair could not be pulled out sufficiently to permit me to sit because it backed up to a wall. I am a small person and I couldn't fit to sit down.
2) Ordered Tomato Soup which was listed on the specials board. Server checked with kitchen and told us it was not available as the hostess had not updated the board.
3) Specifically requested our soup come prior to our meal. Soup came, was not hot and was sent back to reheat. Our meal came one minute afterwards despite our request.

All three issues were the result of the same two employees not paying attention to detail although you should not have to mention you would prefer hot soup.
Was there once years ago with a good experience. After today's experience we won't go back.

BTW: when we left, the specials board (directly behind the hostess) still listed tomato soup. We pointed it out again and her reply was "Yes, I know, my bad, haven't had time to fix it." It must be hard to find one second to erase it with a swipe of your finger.

I recently visited Sobies in Oconomowoc, and I have to say, my experience was quite disappointing. I was looking forward to enjoying a fish fry, but unfortunately, the meal fell short of my expectations. The fish itself was decent, but the fries were a letdown—they lacked the crispy texture I was hoping for and had more of a moist, soggy feel instead. It was a bit of a letdown, especially considering how much I love a good fish fry.

However, the most significant issue we faced during our visit was the service. From the moment we were seated, it felt like we were largely ignored. It took an unreasonably long time—about 35 minutes—before we even had our drink orders taken. This was frustrating, especially since the restaurant wasn’t overly busy at the time. Our waitress seemed overwhelmed and not very attentive, which really impacted our overall experience.

As we sat waiting, we seriously contemplated leaving, but decided to stay in hopes that things would improve. After what felt like an eternity, we finally received our drinks and our food, but the slow start had already put a damper on our evening.

By the end of our meal, I couldn’t help but feel that there are plenty of other restaurants in the area that provide a better dining experience for your money. While I’m willing to give Sobies another chance—perhaps it was just a one-off poor experience—I have to admit that our first impression left a lot to be desired. Hopefully, if we do return, we’ll see improvements in both the food and service.

We were here 3 years ago for our anniversary for the 1st time. We absolutely loved it! When I asked my wife were we wanted to go to celebrate our 10 year anniversary she said. We need to go back to Sobies. I made reservations online early in the week. Once we got there it was a very different experience. We went to the Hostess’s stand and she looked like she rolled out of bed. Told her about our reservation and we were celebrating our anniversary. She just took us to a table did not say anything to us. Our Server came over and goes… I see you found the drink menu what do you want…Made zero recommendations or mentioned house specials. Than said, I see your still looking and walked away. I had to ask her to come back as we wanted an appetizer. Someone else brought out our appetizer and we had not even put our order in. Once she did come back I ordered the Shrimp and Scallops and my wife ordered the chicken and linguine. I Than had to ask if the had any soup she had to pull out her phone to give me the 3 soups of the night. I ordered the mushrooms and rice and she left… I looked at my wife and half giggled and said. I guess you don’t get one. She never even looked her way and asked what she wanted. They were not that busy either. Once we got our food, was not even delivered by our server, I could only take 2 bites, it looked like something I would get out of a supermarket Deli. Was not very warm and the scallops and Shrimp looked like they were boiled… everything was very tasteless for a $30 meal. The tomato sauce in my wife’s Chicken dish had so much acidity to it she could not eat it. By the time we seen our server she was asking us how many boxes we needed. We just wanted to get out of there. We were seated by 5:25 and was paid and out by 6pm! We ended up leaving hungry and extremely disappointed. On the $ spent, quality of food. Not 1 person asked if we were celebrating, it was mentioned to the Hostess. And the other 2 people we seen working, 1 was in shorts shirt not tucked in (and yes you can look nice without it tucked in) this was not, and another server with ankle high jean all tore up in the legs. If you’re offering fine dinning pricing please look the part. I worked as a server for over 6 years same with my wife. We understand things that can’t be controlled and under stand if people just do not care. We got the impression nobody seemed to care tonight. Will be a bit before we come back. Sad when our 1st was so good that left such a positive experience and it happened on our 10year anniversary.

The service was pretty good, but a little on the slow side.

Dinner for 4 with 3 appetizers, 3 cocktails, a bottle of wine and tip came to about $250.

Came in again for poutine and the bruschetta…very good yet again!

And then we had brunch. Very tasty. The portions are a little smaller than the average breakfast place, but the quality is amazing. The eggs Benedict was delicious. I also appreciated the great execution on their home fries.

This is one of the most consistently solid dining options in Oconomowoc.

Maybe they had an off night, but I went with three others. Service was very slow. That would have been ok, but I got the steak frites. It was just… not good. I’m not at all a picky eater, but at one point I start to question whether it was the correct cut of meat. It’s supposed to be NY strip, but it reminded me of the kids steak at Texas Roadhouse.

This was the first time I’ve not actually finished steak. It came with fries, which were oversalted, limp, and oily.

Another one of us got the steak poutine, which was very good. Another got the fish fry, which was overcooked.

For the price of this place, I’m surprised. I don’t think we’ll go back, especially with so many similar places around the city.

This is solely based on our experience today. My wife and I had taken a bike ride to downtown when we decided to grab a bite a sobies... We were excited because we've always had decent experiences there. Not so much today. We asked for an outdoor table and were seated in minutes, which was great. Got our menus, water and utensils in short order as well and were told our server would be out shortly. Five minutes later another patron with a pooch asked for an outdoor table, five more minutes and the other five or so in her party arrived to join her... We still hadn't seen a server. Five more minutes pass and a server came out.... To take the other tables orders, not ours. We politely got up and left. Very disappointed. Gave two stars because we know they are better than this.

Last night the service was extremely slow. I understand a lot of service industry’s are struggling with staffing. However, it’s frustrating when the majority of the restaurant is empty and you can’t even find your waitress to ask to order entrees or pay when your meal is finished.

We were not able to order an appetizer due to Sobies not being accommodating to dietary restrictions.

Within a short time after eating here I became violently ill. We were here 2 months ago for our very first time. At that time I ordered the Rachel sandwich with a cup of soup and loved it. Everything was so good. We went again today because we were in the area. We were really disappointed, first tried the Lobster Bisque very fishy tasting, they did replace that for us with the mushroom soup which was starchy and peppery. Rachel sandwich was not good, on the wrong bread, thick slices of turkey, coleslaw was very pressed on the turkey with large pieces of the cabbage core on the sandwich, not a good sandwich at all.

Every time we’ve dined here, the check in process brings an awkward waiting period for someone to come by with a blunt, short, entitled attitude from the front of house staff. No offer to sit at the bar for a cocktail, no suggestion that they’ll come to get you when it’s time for your reservation, not even a smile when you arrive.

4 years later still feel the same way...

I really wish I could be writing a better review for this restaurant as I feel there is a need for a farm to table type restaurant in Oconomowoc. My wife and I went early on(two weeks from open), and thought the food and wait staff as decent for how long the restaurant had been open and that it would only improve from there. We went back tonight and I won't be returning for a very long time. When we arrived we were told a table would be ready within 20 minutes, we chose to have a drink at the bar and wait for our table. After 20 minutes my drink was empty and we waited another 25 minutes(with empty drinks) before we left. I cannot blame the wait staff or bartenders as they were working their butts off, this was a management problem. A couple that came in at the same time as we did followed us out the door, very sad.

Most happy server ever, she made it fun for the 6 of us.
Had Blueberry Basil Bruschetta, Fried Cotswold, Duck Flatbread. Then followed with (3) Quack Putines, Broasted Chicken, and The Chicken Sandwich.
Finished with incredible fresh made two layer banana cake and cream cheese frosting !!!!!

We stopped here for brunch for the first time and it was absolutely amazing. We sat at the bar and was served by Lydia. She was equally as helpful with menu selections as she was delightful in conversation. We ordered the Crème Brûlée French toast and the hash brown scramble. Both were massive portions at a fair price. We also enjoyed the Bloody Marys and coffee. We will be returning guests!

2/24/23 was our first time here. We were super excited for a wonderful date night. It started out well with the shrimp and grits and then everything was barely edible after that. I had the sweet potato gnocchi with chicken. Gnocchi was over cooked and hard. The plate had very little to desire. Then as I looked at my wife's scallops as she was cutting them and they are almost completely raw. They were cooked on 1 side only and not for long. We were absolutely shocked and astonished that someone would serve this to a customer. Our waitress stopped and asked us how everything was. I explained to her that I'm only telling her about our experience because no one else should have to experience this. She offered to remake our meals. We declined and expressed we didn't want to make a scene. She was extremely apologetic and we made sure to make it clear that it wasn't her fault. She came back to our table and again stated how sorry she was and she gave us 25% off our bill. Again we stated that we didn't want to make a scene and we were not trying to get something discounted or given to us. $100 with tip and we were both still hungry so home we went to make some supper. Definitely not the date night we had planned but we made the best we could of it. Hopefully this can be a learning experience for your kitchen staff. We hope nothing but the best for all at Sobie's. Second visit, better service than first visit as less busy. Food still excellent (red beans and rice special, with blackened chicken and andouille sausage!

First visit, excellent food, high quality and good portions. Try the poutine and soups for sure! Sandwich options are all good as are the entrees. Service was a bit off -- older gal was quite talkative...to other tables... and seemed to forget about us (drink refills, taking order after drinks) which made for a bit longer night than expected.

This was our first visit, we didn't have a reservation, the service was perfect! My 90 year old mother said the crab cake Eggs Benedict was the BEST she has ever eaten! The Creme Brule French toast reminded me of my trip to New Orleans years ago....
We will definitely return.

Grabbed lunch for me and my employee, he thought the leg in picture was a little too undercooked for his liking. I scoffed , it didn't seem too bad to me. So I ate my portion.

I should have been on the safe side and stopped eating , because I believe I got food poisoning. My stomach was restless for the following 4 hours.
I did not give a 1 star because I understand a few things. The person who took my order checked with the kitchen first to make sure they were still cooking. So I will take it as a crew who was waiting to break down lunch and start dinner prep. The other was that I ordered takeout

I would really like to try this location again. Can anyone recommend the better time to stop in?

On Thursday, my sweetie called to see if they offer Gluten-free and Dairy-free options. She has an allergy, not celiac. The helpful person talked to the Chef with the request and he said to have us check in when we arrived Friday. After we were seated for a few minutes, the Chef came out with a hand-written note, asked if we were the King party and got details of what she could and could not have for the fish bake. He made everything for her from scratch to ensure that she got exactly what she needed the first time. We were a party of 4 and all had fabulous dinners, all served at the same time. Wait staff was awesome, and our waitress was fun, endearing, and super helpful. So glad we stumbled across this place. We will certainly be back.

Fabulous! We didn’t have reservations, so we sat at the bar, great bartenders and really attentive service. The food was amazing! I had the omelet special, shiitake mushroom and spinach omelet and my husband had the coconut French toast, he reluctantly gave me one bite. We will be back for breakfast!

The food was great! Lots of unique options and flavors. My only comment would be that the service was a bit slower than I expected. We were a table of two that came in at 7PM. We didn't leave until 8:45, which was immediately after paying our bill. Overall I would definitely recommend coming here, just make sure you have ample time for your meal.

I have now twice called to order JUST burgers and have been refused service. The food is great, but I find it mind blowing that they are going to refuse a takeout order twice weeks apart. The reasoning I got the first time is that they were too busy, but the google meter said they weren’t. The second time the person on the phone told me the kitchen said no. Really disappointing and I guess if they flat out don’t want business then I won’t give it to them.

Very nice restaurant in downtown area. Food is amazing. I had the beef tenderloin scramble with their biscuit and gravey sauce and it was phenomenal. Big portions too. Service was very friendly and prompt Highly recommend.

I rarely write reviews, but I had to make one for this experience. We had four people in our party, and none of us could get over the dinners we had. "Beautiful" was used to describe them by more than one person, and we don't use that term lightly. Namely, the farm strip steak and butternut squash risotto, both seasonal specials. Incredible food, upscale but relaxed atmosphere, and reasonable cost for the quality of the food. A new favorite of ours! Thank you guys for a wonderful experience.

Bad experience with owner. Ordered the Crab Cake Benedict. When it arrived I took a bite only to discover it has ham in it. This isn't noted anywhere on the menu. As someone who doesn't eat ham I was very surprised and asked our server about it. None of the service team knew it had ham either. I asked them to make something else instead. The owner was cooking and agreed to do so, but still charged for the more expensive crab cake benedicts. I would never have ordered them if the menu was clear and am quite bothered by the response of the owner who refused to do anything besides overcharge me. I hope the owner clears up the menu for the future.

If you have any dietary needs make sure you go through ever detail with your server as the menu isn't clear!

When it comes to consistency Sobie's takes the cake! It is so hard to review a restaurant because one day its delicious and the next day it is so so. Sobie's is fantastic every single time! It has become the staple restaurant for anyone who comes to visit us. Each server we have had has been attentive and kind. The most impressive thing was the night an employee took our reservation accidently after they closed. They still seated us and cooked us a great meal all with a smile and good attitude. After spending a year in WI we are happy to have found a great restaurant to go to! I recommend them to anyone who comes to town!

A Sunday. A day for errands and relaxing. A disclaimer: I consumed my first CBD coffee. I did not see the Care Bears as hoped, but I did become rather hungry. Groceries were next on the errand list. All know not to perform this task hungry. The trusty Google machine brought up Sobie’s as we were in Cooney and within 5min of their opening time. We have not crossed their threshold yet, ever. Pretty certain we were the inaugural patrons of the day.
Seated promptly, watered and given the culinary literature. Wendy arrived with an attitude that would rival Mary Poppins with a hint of your sister: the one you like, with the great sense of humor. The menu is well planned and specials were abundant and a wide range. I had a special. It was, special. Two pork chops, biscuits and gravy, American fries, and eggs to order. Not for the petite eater this breakfast would curb the CBD hunger pangs as well as foolish purchases at the grocery. Let me explain that if the pig farmer and this chef would like, they could achieve world peace or domination. I’m guessing the peace route as all would be fed, satisfied, and happy. There were no condiments on our table. I assumed Covid protocol. In reality it is because they are not needed, at all. My wife’s meal was tip top. No, not a description of her meal as I was enamored with a set of pork chops that are the standard that all things pork should be compared to. My review is getting wordy. The CBD, perhaps. I’m likening it to a food coma that was provided by the team of experts at Sobie’s. We did skip the grocery store, wanted to get home for kick off enjoying our after breakfast glow. Please do yourselves a favor, stop and patronize this gem of food expertise. In these crazy times a business that is working hard for our pleasure is well, just a pleasure. Thank you Sobie’s team! We will be back soon! I have to go I think the Care Bears just pulled in. Carry on.

Reservation recommended. We went to Sobies tonight for the first time. When we arrived we gave our name to the host. After 10 minutes we decided to have a drink at the bar. I asked the host a couple of times about a table and each time he said about 10 more minutes. After 45 minutes I asked the host again and he said our table was ready out on the sidewalk. We declined the outside table and left very disappointed.
