I have to edit my last review. We used to love this place. Not anymore. No service, very poor cuts of meat (loaded with gristle), expensive. My wife went with a friend and left after 30 minutes. I was so excited to try Indian food. I've always heard that Indian food was spicy & flavorful. I read reviews & decided to go for Mother's Day. I hate to say it but I was so disappointed! I got the Butter Chicken & it had absolutely no flavor. My son ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala & asked for it to be spicy, but again, no flavor & not spicy at all. My husband had the chicken biryani & that was delicious, had flavor & spice. The Naan was also delicious & the service was great, Maybe it was just a bad night, but I won't make the drive again to see.

First of all, an Indian and Mexican place? That sounds confusing from top to bottom. The place is very disorganized, time in to time out was 2.5 hours. Only one worker there, looked like the owner was there but he just walked around and didn’t help out. Seems like they only use half the available space which makes it cramped and not a great atmosphere. Margarita’s taste like they have 0.00001 oz. of alcohol in them, king chimichangas are basically baby chimichangas. Might last another year.

We started out our meal with an incredible Keema Samosa that reminded me of the food I had in Uganda.

Next I had a chicken curry that was amazing. I dipped the curry in a tasty garlic naan that hit the spot. My wife had a terrific chicken tikka masala that she loved.

The server was very nice and helpful. The food came quickly after we ordered. I think we’ve definitely found a diamond in the rough at the Spice of India and we can’t wait to come back for another meal.

First off let me just share with how excited I am that there is an actual Indian place in Delavan! I have read the negative reviews and can't imagine why but some people will always have something to complain about. Which is unfortunate because that's what new restaurants like this use to grow their business. Let me say they do need better signage and some updating to help transition it from Mexican restaurant. But seriously who cares as long as the food is good. I cannot speak on service as I did not dine in. But the quality of the food was impressive for our small town. Plus the samosas were pure perfection 5stars for taste and quality thank you Taste of India keep up the good work! 👏👏👏

Worst Indian food I have in my entire life.We ordered Goat Corma, Garlic naan, Chicken Biriyani, Samosa, Chicken 65 and Tea. And me and my wife paid like 65$ . We just have few bites of food. I have been eating indian food since my childhood but this was the worst esperience ever. We had just a bite of everything. This place needs to decide if they want to be a real restaurant. Waited 15 minutes to be seated in an almost empty restaurant. Walked back to the kitchen to get someone to service us. Had the tandoori chicken, some of which was partially not hot. The server made an excuse that she has to put Door Dash and Uber Eats orders as a priority over in person customers. She said that was required of her even though no tips come to her. This place has to decide if they want to be an Indian restaurant or a Mexican restaurant. Right now, they are neither. If they don't improve, they will be out of business within the year.

After owners response: it may have not been 15 minutes but was long enough to question whether to leave or wait to see if anyone was there. As far as being there many times, we came on your grand opening with pretty much the same abysmal service. We thought we would give you second chance but were certainly disappointed. I would suggest that for good Indian food with good service to drive to Rockford, Milwaukee or Madison.

We tried Spice of India for the first time tonight and our first time eating Indian food! We got butter chicken, bombay lamb biryani, garlic and butter naan. The first time I ate at Hernandez was in 1982 and it was an exotic experience. A friend just told me that it was now an Indian/Mexican establishment and I was hopeful to try it as Indian food is sadly lacking in our area.

We went for lunch and there was a buffet. Three of the four of us were not buffet people, so ordered off the menu. The buffet patron was very happy with his meal and went back several times. One of us had a paneer tikka, another chicken tikka and I had the fish tikka. All were good, but I wish that the fish tikka had more sauce.

The waitress was a gem and I wanted to ask her more questions, but it got a little busy. I don't know how they handle the kitchen for Ind/Mex, but everyone that was there was ordering the Indian food.

We will certainly be back and if you ignore the Mexican trappings, you will be guaranteed solid Indian food.

I was really overwhelmed by the amount of reviews for this restaurant, to my surprise when I visited this restaurant, ambience didn’t even look like an Indian restaurant. And coming to food, they suggested a buffet, there were only 3 curries in veg, 1 chicken curry, 1 lamb curry. Samosa so called starter & wings for so called non veg starter. I am really disappointed with the taste and quality. There is no chef in the restaurant, kitchen is being run by couple young guys. I will never visit this restaurant.

Decided to give this place a try on a Monday mid-week with my wife. We were the only ones there so we had the place to our selves. The food was authentic and tasted outstanding. We went with the lamb and it hit all the right spots. Naan (both plain and garlic) was on point as well. I also had the Dal Makhani black lentils and loved'em. Lots of vegan options available as well. To drink we had the Mango Lassi and it was the best! Would definitely recommend it and go back again. It appears after seating you can choose either Mexican food or Indian food but you can't order indian food? They insist on you taking part in the Indian "buffet" which is a small assortment of various menu items. Needless to say after finding multiple bugs hovering our table, poor service and less than desirable food. I left quickly.

My spouse and I were thrilled when we found out this place opened (a much faster drive than Milwaukee or Chicago), and thought our days of commuting to the city for curry, naan, and all manner of delicious, satisfying Indian food were behind us. Hoo, boy, were we ever wrong!
Stopped in for dinner this evening. The lone server seated us, and informed us that in addition to the menu, the buffet was also available. Since we're not big into buffets, especially in the wake of the pandemic, we opted to order from the menu. We ordered both our drinks and our food right away, and waited patiently for the food and drinks to arrive. Our server forgot we ordered drinks, and asked whether we wanted something besides water, when she returned... about 30 minutes later. We reminded her of our drink order (two masala chai) and she walked away. I understand being the only server, but aside from two other parties of two, no other diners were present.
While we waited, we walked over to peruse the buffet. Oddly enough, the two items (palak paneer and lamb Rogan Josh) we'd ordered were available, so we thought it might be a nice preview of what we would be eating. It WAS a preview, but sadly, it was a dismal one. The palak paneer appeared dry, smelled somewhat burnt, and wholly devoid of spice, despite the smell of seasonings greeting us upon entering the restaurant. The lamb Rogan Josh appeared and smelled similarly dry, bland, and burnt. Perhaps their buffet temp was up too high? Perhaps the buffet had been left longer than it should have, and was to be turned over shortly? Regardless, I was relieved we hadn't opted to order from the buffet, and hoped for better food to come from the kitchen. But, what unfolded next is still something my husband and I struggle to comprehend, and were absolutely horrified to witness. One of the kitchen staff (maybe the chef?) emerged from the kitchen with what appeared to be a bowl or dish in tow, bellied up to the buffet, scooped up some palak paneer into said vessel, and retreated into the kitchen. Maybe he was grabbing some food for himself or for one of his coworkers (didn't see anyone else, but hey, who knows?). The look of disbelief and abject horror on my husband's face told me that was not the case. I inquired as to what he was so horrified for, and he told me that the vessel we'd seen the kitchen staff member scoop old buffet food into was, in fact, a pan. Initially, I laughed it off... that is, until I saw the server (who still had not brought us our drink order nearly an hour later) walk over to the buffet, scoop some rice, some kind of curry, and fried fish onto a serving dish, and walk back to the kitchen, only to return minutes later and serve the exact plate of food to the patrons seated behind us. I caught one whiff of the stench of clearly old fish, and any shred of hope I may have had for this establishment was immediately snuffed out. We left immediately, and don't intend to give this place another shot. Never in my life did I think I'd see something like this, and question if I was being filmed for an episode of Practical Jokers, or Kitchen Nightmares. Guess I get to check that one off the ol' bucket list.

To the owners and staff: you had a golden opportunity to set up shop as the only Indian restaurant in this area, introduce this area to Indian cuisine, and to secure a loyal customer base.
Not only have you royally blown this chance, you are insulting your customers' intelligence, and are risking the health and safety of all who dine in your restaurant. I recommend getting out of the industry before a sickened patron (or several) files suit, as that is almost certain to happen if you continue to carry on serving old buffet food passed off as freshly made.

TL;DR: was almost served bland, burnt, old Indian buffet food, poorly passed off as freshly made. Diners beware!

Hernandez Restaurant at one time, many years ago was an awesome Mexican Restaurant. It has since gone downhill. The carpet is worn and torn. Blankets randomly stapled to the wall. I had fish tacos tortillas were overheated and hard but the rice was good. There’s a $1.50 charge for chips. There was a bit of a mildew smell in the restaurant. I will not go back or recommend the restaurant

Finally an Indian restaurant in the area, and it's excellent! All of the items on the buffet were very good, and they even had samosas which you don't usually see on a buffet. Will be back to order off the menu for sure.

Wonderful place. Have been coming here with family for 20 years. Rafael and his people make you feel at home and the food is DELICIOUS! It's a cozy family restaurant with good value, and the atmosphere is fantastic. Great selection of food.

The food was plentiful and very delicious. The person who waited on us was very sweet and she worked so hard to make sure our experience was top notch! The only thing that I wondered about was the ground beef served in my tostada and taco. I have just never really had authentic Mexican food with ground beef in it. It reminded me a little too much of Taco Bell. I will say that the chicken in the burrito was very tasty! The tortilla chips and salsa (red and green - YUMMY) will cost you just over a buck, but they're unlimited refills. We really enjoyed our dining experience here and my wife and I definitely plan to go back to try some of their other items on the menu!

Go someplace else, bad service, high prices, and long wait times for food even when the restaurant is fairly empty. We arrived and placed an order to go on Sunday evening. First thing I noticed, the prices are higher than their website. Lots of prices are rising, not a big deal. I asked if they had Menudo on the weekend and the women who appeared to be the manager said “Yuk”. We placed our order and then went to the bar to have a drink while we waited. The bartender sat us at a table and then before the beer even got there the manager was asking us why we sat down and said we needed to move. We then watched our waitress struggle to pour the beers, bartender relieved her but still couldn’t get a beer that wasn’t half foam. They then asked if they could just bring us bottles. Fine. 30 minutes later we ask for our food. The waitress immediately walks out with it. Questioning the timing we ask if it had been sitting and waiting for a while. The waitress replies “Chef sometimes stalls. The kitchen is always backed up.” $54 for enchiladas, chimichangas, and fajitas. Oh and the two “draft beers”. Food wasn’t great. We wish we hadn’t stopped.

Hernandez has always been my families go to place since we first started to travel up to Wisconsin. We highly recommend the food for adults and children. When you sit down and they bring the chips and salsa they will immediately ask if you would like the mild salsa for the kids. The food they make is authentic and not pre-made items that you find at other Mexican restaurants in the area.

We really enjoyed our experience at Hernandez Mexican Restaurant. The service was lovely. Our server and all the staff was very friendly and made for a nice experience with our whole family tonight including our 3 young children. The chips were fresh and obviously homemade. Worth the trip for the chips alone. We had margaritas on the rocks which were strong and delicious. The chimichanga combo was tasty and incredibly filling. My husband had the combination Guadalajara and said it was wonderful as well. Our check arrived with two chocolate chip cookies as well that were a nice top off to the meal considering we were too full for dessert! We will definitely be back! As an update May 2022 they no longer serve the cookies but we did order some fried ice cream and it was very yummy and sat atop almost a sopapilla like cinnamon sugar tortilla. They've also had to increase their prices across the board by $1.25 unfortunately but we understand why with sadly absolutely everything going up in price these days so it's not a knock against the restaurant. To their credit they have signage up and a sticker on the menu to let you know about the price difference.

Legitimately awful experience. Chips were good, the two salsas they gave: one was subpar and the other we didn't want to touch after the first bite. Roommate got beef burrito, and it tasted like sloppy joes. I got 3 varying meat chimichangas, the flavors were so odd that I couldn't tell the difference between the chicken beef and shrimp. And the prices were absurd for the egg-roll size items I was delivered. All the food also had this weird air and flavor to it, like it'd been sitting in the fridge without a lid before being served to us. The entire time I ate my brain was just telling me to not finish it, and low and behold it upset both of our stomachs afterwards. Nothing close to authentic Mexican, and just an awful experience.

Before we even sat down were told chips now have a $1.50 charge which is understandable …but the hostess ignored us and joined another party at their table laughing and eating as we waited over 30 min for our food or to be offered any additional chips. Understand staff may be tight but to ignore guests is unacceptable.
