Stopped in for pizza night. Caesar was really good (even though the dressing was extremely strong flavored!) and it was a treat to get some good gf sourdough pizza! Service was great. The whole place was super cool!

I had a fantastic experience at the St. James Social Restaurant.

Not only is the vibe, ambience, and aesthetic so pleasing, but the staff, food, and drinks were top-notch.

I was so excited to check out the pork belly bao buns as it was new on the menu, and OH MY GRACIOUS. The flavor combinations were exquisite. I can tell the chef and the team put a ton of detail into how each dish tastes, the complementary flavors, and the presentation. The team working there was so kind to offer me a crème brûlée on the house, which was equally divine. The staff were genuine, kind, and attentive, but not hovering. It felt local and cozy, but elegant.

I can't recommend this place enough. It's a great addition to our area and elevates the dining culture in our region.

Seldomly do I write negative reviews; this may actually be the first time.

First off, the food was fantastic- it was the service that I am complaining about.

We made a reservation over a month ago for our 11 year anniversary and called ahead of time to see if kids were okay to bring. I was informed that the restaurant was “family friendly” and there would be no issues.

After arriving and being seated we asked for a booster for our daughter. The waitress informed me that they do not offer boosters at their restaurant and “people don’t typically bring kids”.

A while later the hostesses did come by and offer one, but the waitress continued to make us feel uncomfortable for bringing a child. She told us that the menu isn’t “kid friendly” but they can make a cheese pizza if we really wanted.

We were told three times during our dinner that another reservation is at the table after us and we had to be done by 630 (reservation was at 5). Typically this wouldn’t be an issue, but the staff was slow to take our order and the food came out time wise as expected for a scratch kitchen.

Overall, the food was great, but don’t come with children, this is not a family friendly establishment.

Really great experience here! The food (salmon) was really good. The mocktails were fun and delicious. It’s family owned and run, it was cute to see the owners family helping with reservations, showing people to their tables.

Went for brunch for a friend's birthday. Food was amazing, we got three different things and devoured all of it. Portions were generous sizes and sooooo delicious. Service was impeccable, Maya was wonderful, not once did she do the typical thing walking up right after you take a bite, she was the perfect level of attentive. We were skeptical about the "Disco Brunch" advertised on their website but the DJ didn't play any disco just lofi stuff with his piano playing and then some jazz. I hope the "disco" isn't scaring ppl away cause this is an amazing experience to be had.

With my experience the atmosphere was great the music and DJ were spot on. The service was lacking and it took an hour for my partner to get a drink. The food didn’t come out until we were ready to leave, and we had the first reservation of the day.

We had the opportunity to experience the Sunday brunch at St. James while on vacation, and it was such a fun and trendy spot! The lattes were fantastic, the live band added great energy, and being greeted and seated by the owner’s kind and polite daughters was such a charming touch. The menu is limited, but everything we tried was enjoyable. We’ll definitely be back next time we’re in northern Wisconsin — highly recommend!

The atmosphere is trendy and cute but that’s where my good experience ended. With a limited menu I hoped each entree was fantastic, but each person’s meal in my party was terrible. The pizzas were rock hard and impossible to eat. I chose a noodle entree and was expecting better quality but it appeared to be noodles, scallions, and then lots of garlic cloves. For the price of the entrees I think we should have gotten much better food.

Not very welcoming and closes way too early for a town that lives off tourism.

Overpriced food, my risotto was barely warm, my wife’s pizza was undercooked and we waited an hour and 20 minutes for our food. Received one apology from the waitress. The hostess knew how long we were waiting but never said a thing. The table next to us received their food right after us and arrived an hour later. The right thing to do would be to have a manager come over and apologize and offer a drink at least. Poor business management.

The stars reflect the experience—great service and ambiance, but the food didn’t quite measure up. The space is beautiful and has all the hallmarks of a trendy, modern restaurant. The staff, including the owner/manager, were warm, attentive, and clearly passionate about what they’re doing, which I genuinely appreciated.

As an amateur foodie, I feel a little guilty saying this—but the food left us underwhelmed. My friend and I both ordered the cacio e pepe, which we were told is one of their top three dishes. While the truffle addition was a nice touch, the pasta itself was dry and bland. Traditionally, cacio e pepe features a silky sauce made from pasta water and pecorino. Here, the cheese was grated on top, but not incorporated into a cohesive sauce—there was virtually no sauce at all. The owner kindly offered more olive or truffle oil (we chose truffle), but without the starchy pasta water, it lacked the creamy texture and depth the dish is known for.

The roasted beets were good, but not particularly memorable. I also tried a bite of my partner’s Wagyu burger—decent, but it didn’t have the melt-in-your-mouth richness I’ve come to expect from authentic Wagyu, especially compared to what I’ve tasted in Japan.

Google mentioned “great cocktails,” but once seated, I found out they don’t have a hard liquor license. The drink menu consisted mostly of wine-based spritzes. After a weekend of backpacking, I was really looking forward to a proper cocktail with my meal, so it was a bit of a letdown.

In short: a beautifully designed space and genuinely kind people running it, but the food and drinks didn’t quite live up to the buzz—or the prices. I respect their vision, but I hope they revisit their menu execution to better match the high-end vibe.

I've been here many times with my husband for a date night or with girl friends for Disco Brunch or a late night dinner and drinks.
Favs-
Cocktail: Champagne Social🍸
Brunch: The Guadalupe
Dinner: The Socialite Pizza 🍕
And any dessert- but I personally can't wait to have the blueberry creme brulee again! 🫐

*I have not tried the espresso bar yet but after seeing the menu I will make sure to get my caffeine fix here when spending the day in Bayfield.

Beautiful dining room, great vibe, amazing food and wonderful staff.

We attended the 4 course wine pairing dinner and it was fantastic. The local Chef has broad international and national experience and focuses on using locally sourced ingredients. The wines from Trefethen Winery, located in Napa were perfect accompaniment to each course. The braised lamb shank was perfectly spiced and cooked. A great experience for a romantic getaway.

Just drove 4 hours through this year’s first snow and landed at St James for a quick bite before turning in for the night. Chef’s special Chili and a spicy N/A margarita to warm me back up hit the spot. Took the cheesecake home for a late night treat. All delicious with fresh flavors and texture combinations.
First time here - fun and friendly place to be. Will definitely return for the whole menu when I have more time. :)

This place is AMAZING! We are clean, gluten free (keto) eaters and St. James does not disappoint! Almost the entire menu is or can be gluten free, plus the owner doesn't cut corners on cheap ingredients. Sourdough pizza is high quality, Italian flour...it doesn't get better than this and we'll not hesitate to return for a vacation in Bayfield knowing it's so easy to not stress out over the quality of food available.

Everything was once new. The primary reason I give four stars for food and service is because of valuable feedback to a new establishment. With the understanding of a rotating menu or if something remains a staple. For food, I will preface the kitchen took around 1 hour for 3, 10-12” pizzas while maybe 8-10 tables total were being serviced: we had a 5pm reservation so no prior food rush to catch-up on. Be prepared to wait, this was not a quick or average meal service time. Second, I would indulge guests with a more hearty amount of arugula on the ‘Socialite’ fired pizza. For service, upon being seated we were informed of a time limit for guests following our reserved table. I recommend providing a notice when reserving a time limit (so it’s known) and then a subtly toward the end of reserved time slot (15 minutes) prior to the table needing to be vacated for the succeeding reservation.

All together, five stars!! A new establishment in mind and very great, kind and welcoming staff. Food exceptional when it arrived! Entrees, drinks, etc..

I had a reservation for 715. Arrived at 710. Was told table wasn't ready. Went to the bar to have a glass of wine while I waited. Bartender was friendly and nice. After 20 minutes of watching the host walk numerous people to their tables and not acknowledge us we left. Will never attempt again if that's how the start is. Sad establishment.

This restaurant is very accommodating for restrictive diets. My husband is dairy free and I am gluten free so finding a place to eat out can be difficult and St. James was so accommodating and delicious! We went on a limited menu pizza night and their Gluten free sourdough crust ( made in house!) was so good!!!! My husband liked their regular sourdough pizza even without the cheese. The chef even made us a delicious dairy free and gluten free dark chocolate gelato dessert that was the best gelato I’ve ever tasted. Like a truffle in gelato form. The dessert was on the house when the chef heard about our dietary needs. What a wonderful place. Really encouraging when you have dietary restrictions.

They need to take the fish tacos off the menu. The pizza was decent. Unfortunately for most of the week there is only a short menu which you can only order pizza or fish tacos.
The people who work here and service are excellent. Hopefully the menu improves.

We decided to spend our 10 year anniversary here and have been coming to Bayfield for years. Our family cabin is out of commission this season so decided to stay at St. James, and we couldn’t have been happier. The food has been great, service here is exceptional and the sauna is unreal. We will be coming back.

Get reservations - and go! We came the second night we stayed at the St. James and had pizza. Promptly came back for dinner and got pizza again two nights later because it was so good! The food is fantastic. We also had a chicken satay and shareable steak salad - could not recommend that more. Loved the atmosphere. Family owned and run - the owners were so kind and lovely to chat with. We got lucky with live music at our dinner! Will be back.

Oh the St. James Social. We loved this place! Cody, Annalisa & Ed were wonderful hosts and put up with us until closing time (we really enjoyed talking to them). Colton (chef) even stepped out to say hello too! The sourdough pizza is a must ( courtesy of Cody’s brilliance) and we wish we could have tried every variety. The space itself was beautifully designed by Annalisa with modern touches and amazing artwork that gave a nod to traditional North Woods decor and vibes. Do yourself a favor and start with the salted beets and arancini. 10/10 highly recommend, would go again (endlessly). Highly recommend ordering a THC cocktail for dessert.
