Out for a Saturday drive, looking for outdoor dining in the FDL area. Sadly, there aren't many choices. Stopped by Sunset and were pleasantly surprised to see their nice sized patio open for dining, right on the lake. VERY friendly and prompt service. Definitely not the Sunset we remembered! Our food was . gross. French onion soup was so salty! Not a beefy broth you would expect.
Husband ordered beef tips and noodles. Again, not a beefy sauce at all, no flavor at all and so salty he couldn't eat it! I had ribeye medium rare. It came sitting on a plate with a watery juice and was grayish in color. Steak looked like they boiled it!
Server didn't seem to care and avoided our table until bill time.
Also flies were all over the place, not just a few but like 30!
Wasted our time and money on something that we planned to be special.

I took a party of 15 here for a memorial luncheon for my mother. I called three times beforehand to 1) secure the reservation 2) ensure the reservation was still on their schedule 3) and to give them a final head count. Upon arrival, no table was ready. The older woman server seemed completely put out and annoyed that she had to put tables together, snapping at me "what do you want"? I could not believe after all the calls I made that they were surprised to see us. I also couldn't believe the attitude we were all getting because of their mistake, especially since the place was practically empty.

There was one younger girl who was our server and she was very sweet. It seemed to take forever for the food to arrive. Again, the place was practically empty but maybe they are not used to groups. I did give the food two stars because some of my mother's friends liked what they ordered. My meal was marginal at best.

At the end, a bill was given and all staff disappeared. After paying over 400.00 I thought maybe there would be a thank you at the end, but no. It seemed as though we were all a complete bother from start to end.
This was a big mistake on my part, and definitely negatively impacted what was to be a lovely celebration of life for my mother. I'm writing this to hopefully help others who may want to prearrange a group lunch/dinner. My advice is to find another place - there are better options - and they will very likely act more professional and actually appreciate your business.

First time customer- my husband and I stopped for lunch. We both ordered burgers and typically a burger is a burger so who would have guessed that I was thinking “this is one of the best burgers I have ever had in my life” and in that same moment my husband looked over and said “this is the best burger I have ever had.” I will be comparing that cheeseburger to every other one I ever order-probably for the rest of my life. First the prices on the menus are cash prices. They add almost 5% to your bill if you pay by credit card.
It must’ve been our servers first day on the job. Took forever to get waited on. She didn’t know if my order came with super salad, even though it was right there on the menu that it did.
She forgot our appetizer order that never came out. We had to ask for napkins then we also had to ask for silverware later when our food came out with no silverware.
She forgot our drink orders. The water tasted awful,
My food order came out without any sides again, even though that was on the menu. When I asked if it should come with a side, she had to go check. 🤪
Never an apology for any of the shortcomings.

Had to send the steak back. Way too much seasoning on it ordered it with only salt and pepper. But not how it came. Sadly it still tasted like liquid smoke crud. Don't know why places are doing this. Make it so people have to oder it with all the crap and cooked in different grill. I personally ask for it plan except salt and pepper while being cooked but all this seasoning rubs and liquid smoke tears up my stomach. If the food server would have listened a steak would not have been returned and wasted. 😞
Was a bit disappointed the fireworks were on Saturday evening not on the forth. But we asked if we could sit on their lawn and watch the lake fireworks. Which we were told yes and had a great time. Thank you for letting us borrow a patch of grass. 😀

We stopped in a few days ago for dinner, and it was a fantastic experience. Often restaurants are challenging when bringing small children, but they were very accommodating. The view on their patio was lovely. The music was not too loud. Best of all, the food was reasonably priced, delicious, and high quality. I usually get a stomach ache from most restaurant food (even at fancy and expensive places), but I tried every dish we ordered, and I didn't feel overly thirsty, heavy, or bloated afterwards. I ordered the Mediterranean chicken. I will be returning whenever I happen through Fon Du Lac. My compliments to the chef!

My recent time here was for a to-go order for French Onion Soup. This place actually cares about how they package it, along with how amazing it smells and tastes. Here you get your soup in one container, then your cheese in another, and to top it off your croutons in another. Everything is packaged how it should be to make your food taste great.
The first time we went here was for our anniversary. Service was top notch, food was mouth watering, and the view of the lake brought everything together.
If you're looking for a place that actually cares about you as a person and not fully looking at you as a $ walking in the door. You want to experience wonderful food, top notch service, and a place that is warm and comforting, you have to come here and take it all in.

Drove an hour up to meet my best friend for brunch. The eggs tasted old and had the weirdest consistency, bacon was extremely greasy, the Biscuits for the Biscuits and gravy was so hard I could barely get my fork through it. The server seemed extremely disinterested. Did not even give a name when I sat down, or an explanation that it was even a breakfast buffet or how it worked. Made no effort for any conversation or even small talk. The review should only be 1 star, but I gave an extra because a kettle soda was cheap. That was the only positive. Definitely a cheaper brunch buffet, but not worth it.

Went to this venue for a rehearsal dinner. We had the reservation for 40 people, but were told that if less people show, we will only pay for the number of people present. We also reserved the large back room for our large group. We dealt with employee, Heather. When we arrived, they had the smaller room set with only 36 plates. We were caught off guard with the smaller room, but we only had 32 people arrive so we went with it. They only served 1 round of dishes; not brining more food to the table when serving plates were empty. When the check came, they charged us for 40 people. When we confronted management, we were met with a very rude attitude; confrontational demeanor. When we mentioned Heather, she said Heather had since been fired so she wouldn’t keep to the deal Heather made with us. Our guests did pay for their alcoholic drinks, and their staff charged some of our guests 1-2$ more than what their drinks cost. Yet our guests didn’t know of these other issues, and didn’t want to cause a scene so they just paid the 1-2$ more charge. They lost our recommendation, the lost money from more drinks from our party that night as we went to another bar down the road, and their reputation has been tainted for the 32 people in our party.

We stopped here for a late lunch yesterday and it was not a good experience. First, I was given a Mt. Dew with a bug floating in the glass. the french onion soup was just horrible. Worst we ever had, I had the Works burger, it was ok, but very greasy and the fries tasted old. Daughter had chicken alfredo, she said hers was good. The atmosphere in the dining room was terrible. Dirty looking ceiling, chipped paint on the walls, light bulbs hanging out of the sockets from the ceiling, cobwebs on window ledges, food on the floor. There was only one other table being served at the time besides us, so they had plenty of time to clean the floor up at least. We'll spend our money elsewhere and will not be back.

Grew up in FDL area but haven't lived there in 45 years... Sunset has been there longer than that and somehow, I never went there. A group oh HS classmates met there for a drink, lunch and lots of conversation. Staff were attentive but not hovering and I heard lots of compliments about the food. I wish there would have been a fish plate (other than salmon) on the menu... although someone in our group ordered it and it looked very appealing. We recently had a bridal shower at Sunset on the Water! Even with the place being packed (live entertainment and beautiful weather), we were given a decent amount of attention. Our waitress was pretty busy though, and we ended up distributing our own checks amongst ourselves.
I ordered the sunset burger with fries on the side, done medium well. It was absolutely delicious! The Alfredo, as well as the Caesar salad looked fantastic. A few in our group who ordered a salad as their side noted that it was a little watery.
Overall, I would definitely eat there again. The food was delicious and prices were really reasonable. ☺️

We walked in about 2 minutes later and they changed the wait time to 30 minutes. We ended up waiting about 20 min to sit down. After finally being seated we watched numerous parties sit down and was serviced by the wait staff even though we were sat before. After 20 min without anyone asking us if we even wanted water. I went to the front to ask when will be serviced and she said sorry and we went to where servers were and to let them know. First of all, the service was top notch and amazing. Cool place that was super clean and the views of the lake during the day were spectacular. The drinks were very generously poured but not overpoured.

The food was out quick, hot and cooked to perfection. However, the highlight of the fish fry combo platter was the grilled shrimp skewer, they were very tasty! The rest of the platter was just food service, frozen food section of your grocery store style and again, cooked to perfection but nothing to write home about. Clam chowder ranks the same as most of the platter.

The lemon butter Haddock my wife had was really very good but was a ridiculously small portion. Her fries were hot and very tasty. Her salad was a heaping plate of fresh crisp lettuce, a few croutons, a single quarter of a tomato and a single, thin slice of a cucumber.

While we went out of our way to give this place a try and weren't knocked out, we will try it again if we are in the area if just for a burger and a drink.
