Taco Madre is hands down one of the best Mexican restaurants we’ve eaten at in the Madison area. The salsas were very good, the drinks were good, and our food was great! We had a torta with carne asada and the enchiladas rancheras. Super great! Will definitely go back again! Oh! Also our waitress was super nice and the environment was very welcoming!

If you are hoping to order dessert here, I recommend you order it when you order your meal. Our server never checked back after delivering our food. Too bad since their desserts looked delicious. It was midweek 7pm and not very busy, yet every table seemed to be ignored by the server after receiving their entree.

We welcomed this new place in our neighborhood after Daisy Cafe closed. We have dined in and regularly ordered for pick up. The food quality is decent. However, a change in their website made it impossible to order online. We placed an order and got cancelled. We went to the restaurant to check and were dismissed as it was probably our mistake. Nonetheless, we ordered the food there for takeout. As we were waiting, another customer came in that had place an online order and was also not processed. At that point perhaps the waitress realized there was in fact a problem. She didn't apologize for the inconvenience or try to provide any explanation. She acted as it was not her concern. The restaurant was not even busy (maybe 2 tables were occupied at prime diner time). That was our last order with Taco Madre. While the food is good, it is not exceptional by any means to have to endure one of the worst customer services I experienced at a restaurant in town.

Honestly the worst restaurant service I have ever experienced. We walk in and the waitress asks us for a table of how many - no greeting, smile, or friendliness - fine. As we walk to the table, my mother asks if we can sit at a table by the window. The waitress immediately responds “I’m busy” and shrugs us off. The other table was clear of plates and ready so my parents try to talk to her about why. As we are sort of waiting around for an answer, a white couple walks in and she immediately greets them and tells them they can sit wherever. They take the table that we asked about, at that point my parents are still trying to figure out what happened but a bit irritated by that. I mention race because although the waitress seemed Hispanic it almost felt like a racist response to them. She refused to interact with them or give them her name. My (white) fiancée is now waiting by the door and the waitress greets her and asks her if she’s looking for a table or takeout. She responds that she’s with us. Funny because my fiancée is the one who initially responded to her letting her know we needed a table for four, just goes to show how little attention she was paying to us. Honestly it was a bummer because it was all a late birthday celebration for her with my parents. I don’t know what was going on with the waitress. I don’t know if she was already in a bad mood but the fact that my parents and I were the only non white customers there and the treatment we got just felt very bad. As we were leaving a saw a receipt on the bar with the name Irma M. if that was still her then I really hope this doesn’t happen to anyone else.

Passing on my way to Chicago. Came camping with friends. Weather was a bit bad. Stopped in Maddison Wisconsin
And found this gem. Authentic Mexican goodi.mCindy was good server, friendly.
Guacamole has a nice kick of spice, good chips. Tacos in the tortilla corn. Had chorizo tacos and Asada both really good. Asked tajin and margarita glass for my jamaica and Cindy was nice to do it for me.
I would recommend if you are looking for Mexican food estilo Tijuna!

Come for the world’s best salsa—yeah, I said it!—stay for the incredible food. Everything is exceptionally flavorful, such that the heat takes a back seat. Whether you are looking for steak, pork, chicken, fish/shrimp, or vegetarian, you absolutely cannot go wrong at Taco Madre.

I get the tinga tacos almost every time I go and they are delicious! Well seasoned, juicy meat. Good beans and rice! Addictive tortilla chips with salsa that has nice heat to it. The dulce de leche cake is also so good! It has pieces of peach in it!!

Really excited to have this spot in town! Portions were generous, food was good, drinks were good. Tacos come with guac and are well sized! They serve chips and salsa as you sit down (no charge) and salsa had a nice smoky flavor. Lots of vegetarian options. Will go back and will recommend to friends.

I had the carne asada, and my husband had the street tacos. It was the best Mexican I have had outside of Mexico. The refried beans were well seasoned, and the guacamole was authentic—made in-house! My husband described the tacos as “excellent.” You could give Madison’s best a run for the money if you jazzed up the interior by getting rid of the old Daisy Cafe furniture and starting from fresh.

Two words: hand made. Everything was SO good. The rice, the tortillas, all fresh and made in house (even the flour ones). My shrimp tacos were *perfectly* cooked with the seasoning just right.
And the horchatas .... oh my LORD I will be going back just for them! $4 for a massive glass, and you could get it with chocolate, coffee, or both?!
Our server came over and gave us a free taster of the frappe version and I just about fainted it was so good. Watch out Starbucks, this place is coming for ya.
First time there and definitely not our last. 12/10!

I had an extremely disappointing experience at this restaurant. Upon arrival, we were seated, but as we began to place our order, the waitress abruptly stopped us mid-sentence and walked away to assist other customers as she came back she kept rolling her eyes while we ordered in the end we did not even have a chance to eat.

Much-needed Mexican on the Atwood corridor (no, Tex Tubbs doesn't count! 😝).
Family-run, classic dishes prepared well. Nice selection of salsas to choose from with your meal.
Like many restaurants these days they feel a little understaffed, so have some patience & don't come if you're in a rush!

This experience was as bad as the other one star reviews state. We were the only ones in the entire restaurant for dinner. We checked in and were told to sit down anywhere. About 5 to 10 minutes later the woman from behind the counter finally brought us menus. When I asked if they had a liquor license and served margaritas, she pointed to the sign right above my head taped to the window and said nothing further and seemed to roll her eyes. It was a photo of a strawberry margarita. She then left the table. No explanation, no greeting, no warmth. Another 10 to 15 minutes later she took our order. I decided not to order a margarita based on a lack of explanation. Our food came reasonably quickly and was delivered to our table by the same woman without saying much. She just set the plates down in front of us and left. She did seem to speak and understand English fairly well, so I don’t think it was a language barrier. The food was mediocre at best, but as a former server, I was really disappointed in the service and lack of reception. We honestly could not wait to get out of there. When it came time to pay the bill, the server came and asked “are you ready”and had the little machine with her. I asked her if she was going to bring us the check. She just stared at us and then asked “do you want a copy?” My BF already had his card out and gave it to her without a bill. I asked for the copy and she brought it to us afterwards again without wishing us well or saying goodbye. I read that the original person who took over the Daisy Café and started this place no longer works here. It seems that the people who run this place now don’t have any restaurant experience. It’s a shame because this is a good spot for something new. We won’t be back. My guess is this restaurant won’t last long. Too bad.

The food was certainly good but from the moment we walked through the door the waitress was rude, I mean extremely rude. There were only three other tables taken, however she gave us the last table against the wall. The place was almost empty but it took her 15 minutes to come to the table. No smile, no greeting, nothing. She brought my soda in the can and got angry when I asked for a glass with ice. We were always nice to her. It took her 10 more minutes to bring the glass. When eveyone else left, about an hour later, she turned the music up very loudly. When we paid our bill I told her (still very nicely) that the music was so loud that we couldn't hear each other. She then turned around angrily and didn't respond a word. I asked her as she was walking away "did you hear me?" and she kept walking. We won't return which is a pity because we liked the food but we won't expose ourselves to such rudness. What you pay in a restaurant is not only the food, it is also a good service.

Terrible experience!!! Will NOT be back! was excited to try, but from jump right when we walked in the lady working had an attitude. We had to get our own silverware. I asked for small plates to put the hot sauces on, and she rolled her eyes as she got them. My boyfriend and I couldn’t believe it. We NEVER eat out so this was supposed to be a fun experience instead we just wanted to get out of there. Definitely NOT a vibe!

Tried this place out for the first time recently and the food was great! Only one person in front of the house so she was pretty busy, but still super polite and as attentive as one could expect in the circumstances. If they had just a little more help in that department, itd be 5 stars. Will definitely be back or order carry out in the future!

My friend and I enjoyed a great lunch. We each had a different Burrito. Hers was a full meal with beans and rice. Her Burrito was so big she took half of it home. My Burrito was great - the meat was a tad spicy but the heat was welcome. Service was friendly, welcoming and fast. We'll definitely go back to try other items from the menu!

New Mexican restaurant located in previously beloved Daisies Cafe and Cupcakery on Madison's East side. Small off-street free parking lot. Friendly Wait staff directs customer toward different sized tables, takes food order, and delivers food to your table. I ordered and ate the daily special - Taco Tuesday tacos were very good. Others had burritos and said the same thing regarding good quality and quantity. Appears to be open daily starting at 10:00 a.m.

Taco dinner was good...every bite! Steak fajita was wonderful!
Waitress was kind, funny , and patient.
Suggestion...do something like mural or artwork for the bright blue wall. The space is much too big for one color, and it makes the space seem louder than it needs to be. Maybe some personal touches could be added to tone it down, otherwise that blue just made the place seem cold.

Hands down best Mexican food in Dane County! This joint has it going on, ya walk in tables and chairs are mismatched, ya already know the food is 🔥! Multiple different real deal hot sauce bottles on the tables, plus when ya get your food they bring the house made stuff out! Service is top notch, small crew that crushes it! I went to Taco Madre for the first time this week and it was still a little bare. The music and food were great, but they could use more customers!
I ordered the 3 taco dinner which came with rice and beans and 3 delicious tacos. I opted for bell peppers on mine, which were cooked to absolute perfection, and they add 2-3 slices of avocado on top of each taco. 3 types of veggie salsa on the table plus 4 extra bottles if heat is your thing.
Overall I was satisfied by my first visit and look forward to seeing what other yummy foods and good experiences I can have at Taco Madre. Gracias!

Went there for a spontaneous dinner and absolutely will be going back. The staff was friendly and helpful (especially with me trying to order in Duolingo-level Spanish), the atmosphere was relaxed and very "family restaurant" vibe, and then...the food arrived.
It was AMAZING. We had chorizo y queso as appetizer, and I ordered the Burrito Bandera with chorizo...and it was huge, delicious, perfectly spiced...my companions also loved what they had, and all of us are planning to go back both together and separately. In particular I want to try their breakfast menu!

VERY disappointing!! When I read that the tortillas were handmade I had high hopes for this place. The waitress kept getting our order wrong while we placed it. We ordered a total of 6 tacos for 3 people. When the food arrived it wasn’t what we had ordered, they brought it back to fix it. 4 tacos were brought back, cold. The other 2 tacos were brought out after 5 mins and it was still the wrong taco, I ordered shrimp and they gave me fish. The fish tacos lacked flavor, and the Al pastor taco was definitely not a traditional Al pastor. Not to mention there was a couple next to us that had ordered right when we sat down and they hadn’t received their food. Many parties arrived after them and already had their food. They waited about 50 mins to get their food. When it came to pay the bill, the waitress had charged us for 12 tacos! After getting that fixed, as we left the couple FINALLY received their food. Overall I would not recommend this place

Wow, what a great spot. So glad to see a solid Mexican restaurant move into the neighborhood (and locally owned)! I’ve been here a few times since they just opened and have been very happy. Madison has a lot of Mexican restaurants but they’re all very similar. Taco Madre is the only one I’ve found serving up Southern California and Baja California food. For those who have lived in SoCal, it’s such a fresh breath of air to finally have that style of food in Madison. I loved, loved, loved the carne asada tacos, and the Ensenada (battered) fish and shrimp tacos. The pastor was pretty good as well.
Since they’ve only been open a week, it’s clear they’re making menu adjustments and working things out. The owner has experience running another local restaurant so I’m confident they’ll do well.
Don’t forget to add some of their hot salsas to your tacos. Delicious!

Tried this place on opening day and it was amazing, chef Jose was very attentive. Asked us if everyone was happy with the food and service and of course we said yes! Really welcoming. Today we went back had the same exact meal and it was sooooo disappointing. The menu was changed and the food was not the same. Chef Jose was no longer working at the facility and that was a big bummer. Can’t believe the food and service changed over night almost! I would no longer recommend this place to anyone.

My husband and I stopped in for dinner and had tacos, the tortillas are HANDMADE, something we’ve never had before here in Madison. The chef Jose was awesome, making sure everything was good and letting us try their different salsas, which the red one was 10/10 for those who like spice! As it is their soft opening the menu is limited but talking to the owner they seem to be doing something a little different than any other Mexican restaurant in Madison! I can’t wait to go back when their fill menu is in place, and try their breakfast dishes as well! 10/10 would recommend, especially the campechano and pastor tacos they were to die for!
