I drive from Shorewood at least once a month because this is THE best Indian restaurant in the area!!! Best consistency of flavor, best value and the best service. I have been going there since 2009 and once people follow my suggestion and try them, they continue to go back. I have friends who have moved away from the area, but always go back to Taj Mahal when they return to town to visit. I always get my options "to go" so I can have Indian food for every meal for a few days because it is that good!

How I judge an Indian restaurant is by their Biryani. There's was like goulash.......a complete bastardization of the actual dish. If we had been eating in the restaurant I would have sent most of the food back. 😞

The food here was delicious! I loved the the tikka masala I ordered, as long with the complementary rice. The service was wonderful as well! They were very kind and thoughtful, made sure our water glasses were full, and handed us Chai tea on the way out! The atmosphere had all kinds of Indian culture paintings all over the place, as well with nice set dining tables and queit seating only slightly being interrupted by the soft humming TV. Overall, this restaurant is a 10/10 in my book.

My husband and I tried Taj Mahal Indian Restaurant in Hales Corners for the first time yesterday, and it was an outstanding experience! We ordered the Tikka Chicken Masala and Biryani Chicken, and both dishes were phenomenal. Ordering through their user-friendly website was a breeze. The food was very reasonably priced, with incredibly generous servings. The overall quality of the food is just amazing! We will definitely be visiting this location more often. Highly recommend!

This is literally one of my favorite restaurants of all time. I come once or twice a month for sure — they are probably sick of seeing me! The owners/servers are always super kind to me when I’m there. Such hard workers they are. I typically go for the chicken tikka masala or the coconut butter chicken, garlic naan, and veggie samosas. We get chicken vindaloo spicy and are always pleased with the amount of flavor and heat. If you’re feeling brave, try it extra hot! It’s still excellent, but not for the faint of heart. The quality of the ingredients is always appreciated as well. They won’t give you thigh and leg meat like other places do, and the prices are much more reasonable. The naan is like no other. Huge pieces that are soft and buttery. This is our go-to Indian restaurant and we are happy to support locally owned businesses.

My husband and I love Taj Mahal so much (was a favorite for carryout when we lived nearby), we drive up from the Lake Geneva area! It is absolutely worth the drive, because there is no substitute for greatness.

The naan is pillowy, yet chewy and slightly crisp, and has a lovely smoky, wood-fired flavor. Regardless of the flavor you choose (I'm partial to the garlic naan), you can't go wrong! The palak paneer is full of flavor and complex spices, and is our go-to. We tried the baingan bharta for the first time this evening, and were blown away at the depth of flavor roasted mashed eggplant can have in curry form. I recommend ordering both at medium heat for a balanced spice level, but hot would be fantastic too. Even the rice you get with your food is amazing! If you're a fan of masala chai, you'll definitely want to order a cup while you're here.

While we didn't order it today, they also have a killer fish fry: it's a HUGE portion of catfish fried up in seasoned pakora batter. If you're not into catfish, it might not be your thing. Oh, did I mention that the chutneys are also amazing? I'm not sure what the green one is, but that's our favorite.

The staff is super friendly and attentive, and the dining room is clean, comfortable, and well-lit.

All in all: worth the drive, but we'd LOVE if you'd set up shop in Lake Geneva! 😉

2023 edit: Don't use the delivery option! Ordered about $100 of food, opened the bag to find about $40 of the wrong food. Contacted the restaurant to find out we had to drive there and pick up the correct food. And the delivery charge was only refunded reluctantly! Crazy. Had to remove a star despite this still being the best Indian food in the area.

We have been going here at least 18 years. Other restaurants in the area have gone thru as many as 5 owners but this place keeps chugging along with consistent good food. If anything, they are busier now, but never full. I love various curries and have tried dozens of indian restaurants and this is as good as any of them and better than most. In the good old pre-Covid days, Taj Mahal was one of our few regular restaurant outings in the very sad food desert that is the greater Milwaukee metro area. There was nothing better on a cold winter day than to load up on good Indian food, then take in a matinee at the Marcus Theatre in New Berlin.

But now that Taj Mahal has permanently abandoned their once-great lunch buffet, they’re just another semi-shabby, overpriced, mediocre Indian restaurant with far, far too many menu choices, and no way to sample the amazing variety of Indian cuisine. Unless you bring a party of 10 or 12 people. Or spring for the ridiculously priced $49.95 “dinner for two” (which still doesn’t offer much variety or choice).

If Taj Mahal doesn’t want to continue their lunch buffet, sure and that’s their business. But instead of a menu jam-packed with 180 dishes (I counted them!) that many Americans have never even heard of, how about focusing on a selection of classics, then serve them Thali style so a person can try several entrees and accompaniments (bread, rice, pickle, etc.) for a reasonable lunch-sized price?

My favorite ever Indian restaurant closed down shortly after Covid (😢), and since, I have been exploring, and trying to find somewhere that even held a candle to what that place used to be, and tonight, I found it, and beyond! Best chicken tikka masala, naan, etc I have EVER had. And my boyfriend agreed.

However, this story did start with a hiccup. I showed up to get my carry out, and at first glance, the interior is a little lacking compared to some of the places I’d tried, however, the fanciest of places were never any good. The place I fell in love with was a little hole in the wall as well. So don’t let that fool you too. Back to the hiccup, when I arrived, I gave my name and a bag was handed to me. I got 2 minutes from my driveway (20 minutes away) and I got a call that I had the wrong order. Initially a little frustrated having to turn around to drive an extra 40 minutes after working a 12 hour day, I took a second to realize these people have probably had a long day too and I tried to keep an open mind. I returned, exchanged bags, and the gentlemen I spoke with was SO sweet, and apologetic, and tossed in an appetizer on the house (unnecessary, but appreciated)

Finally, I got back home, tasted the food, and OH. MY. GOODNESS!!! By far, this is the best Indian food I’ve ever had. I didn’t think my old place could’ve ever been topped. But you guys did it! Hats off! I look forward to trying everything on the menu!

I've had only the veggie pakoras so far. They were delicious, made fresh with big pieces of veggie with a tasty batter, and served with two delicious chutneys, all for a reasonable price. As always, wonderful food. Hours and days open have not changed and are as posted online... Still offering their normal full menu, I have found that their menu does not always list everything they offer. If there is a dish you like but don't see it on their menu, just ask. They offer mild, medium, and hot spice range for most dishes. Mild level has great flavor with a touch of heat to it, basically an "American" level. Medium and hot are more authentic/native levels of heat. Quality of food is always constant here! 💯%❤️

Easily the best Indian restaurant in Milwaukee. Been going to this establishment for years. Even before they moved to New Berlin and were located downtown under a different name. The owners are friendly and welcoming to all. The prices are average, but the food has always been exceptionally prepared and love the choices of Indian beers. Never left disappointed, only full and sometimes regretting not leaving any to take home for leftovers. I LOVE Taj Mahal Indian Restaurant in Hales Corners. The flavors are multilayered and scrumptious! Now, if I could make the gentleman behind the counter smile, it might be a miracle. But I'll put up with it for the delicious food coming out of the kitchen!

We've had take out from Taj Mahal for years, and the coconut chicken with golden raisins is one of my favorite meals anywhere. We also enjoy the chicken tikka flavor, which has heat at medium, and the garlic naan.

Food is delicious. I always ask for extra mild and it is never spicy for me. The food is very aromatic, lots of bold herbs and rich. My favorite is butter chicken, garlic naan and the gulab jamun. Good service, good quality.

There is no better Indian food in Milwaukee, period, end of story. The owners are some of the nicest, dedicated people you have ever met. We love this restaurant so much that instead of cooking on holidays, we go to the Taj. It's a family tradtion! My book club meets here. And now they are on GrubHub, so even if you live a distance from Hales Corners, you too can experience the best Butter Chicken known to man.

Food is so good! I'm pretty wimpy with spice but they have plenty of options, weirdly my eyes sweat when I eat here but so excellent. Interior really needs to be updated but service and food makes you forget. Great prices too
