Went to this restaurant recently and was excited to try the food. Ordered some red enchiladas and that's exactly what I got, looked like marinara sauce ,kinda thick sauce to. The steak meat wasn't bad but overshadowed by that sauce. Then received the bill and the food was nowhere good enough to charge that price. The service was fine and they deserved the tip but I would be cautious ordering the enchiladas.

Out of towners beware. This place is a scam. There are no prices on the menu (already a red flag) and they auto-grat everyone. Being from Texas we didn't expect the food to live up to what we are used to, but it was super bland. When my wife and I arrived a little late while the rest of our party was already seated, we asked for a refill of chips and salsa (as is customarily complimentary at almost all Mexican restaurants). They brought them while failing to tell us they would charge us $7.50 for the order!! A small 4 oz. Cup of consomme for our birria cost an additional $6.50!! Despite our protests on the vill, they simply brought the tablet over for us to pay without discussing our concerns. Lake Geneva is amazing, but this place is not it.

Everyone has been raving about this place for years! Finally decided to check it out. Oh my gosh!! I wish we had been coming sooner! The atmosphere is fun, inviting, and interesting!! Great decorations! Service- impeccable!! I am a pretty harsh judge on servers, as I used to do this! So I definitely have expectations. The servers were fun and personable. Efficient and professional. The drinks! Oh my! So cool and tasty!! The food- to die for!! We are so coming back!! Presentation was perfect. Chips and salsa brought to the table (extra basket of chips are $3 more, Jsyk) A variety of salsas from mild to 🔥! They have daily specials. Hubs got the enchilada special for $10. He said it was excellent! I got the three taco meal. So good! Could barely finish it! Food came out at the perfect temp and not too quick - which in my opinion means everything is premade and just being kept warm. Felt like it was made fresh to order. It was a wonderfully relaxing dinner. Sat outside as the temps are perfect right now. Highly recommend for couples or groups. Not a super big location- but groups of 5-10 would be ok! Check it out! You won’t be disappointed! And free parking- which in Lake Geneva- that’s hard to find! 😉

Omg the food was fantastic. I had the taco bowl with shrimp and birria. The peppers were so good. Everything was full of flavor. Our waitress recommended it and we were very pleased. My watermelon lemon lime margaritas was delicious too. Our server was a true gem so pleasant and friendly. The restaurant owner should know her customer service was top noche. Melany is definitely an asset. The other ladies were good as well. Shout out to the lady that made my drink, it was top notch. I'll definitely be coming back.

The food is very good but I don't at all like how the owner runs the business. BEWARE...First, no prices on the menu and very expensive and they add addl. charge for everything. Which you dont know til the check comes.Service good and might have let more than 20% til I saw that charge. I've worked in the restaurant business for 20 years and wouldn't normally leave a low review. TIPS = To Insure Prompt Service. 15% - 25% depending on the service. So a server works hard for their tips. They automatically add 20% tip on each bill. To legally do that they need to have a sign or it should be printed on each menu. (Very easy to not see it on the bill if your not paying attention) They call it a service fee. So quit sure ppl don't notice and they get double tipped regularly. Not honest business whatsoever.
Than I hear they also automatically add 10% tip for carry out. That's not right.
Don't plan on coming back to this local restaurant to support dishonest business practices from here.

When they’re with a few friends and let me tell you their service was terrible the menus had no prices for the bill 20% gratuity tip was included while our server was just standing behind the bar while we were waiting to order. Can't say enough positive things about the service here. Greeted with a smile, our waitress was playful, funny, super attentive, and always made sure we're were happy. The food was great! The menu has a lot of options and it's great to find that they can customize things for you as well... we had a pick up order so cannot say much about the atmosphere ... but the service was pretty friendly and polite... they gave us a lot of freebies (different salsa etc.) as well... the food is reasonably prices and the portion sizes are pretty big.

Let’s play guess your total. Considering there aren’t prices on the menu. I asked for quac and pico de gallo on the side of my “super burrito”. They charged me $2 to do that. Food wasn’t good this time and asked to have my $4 charge to be removed because it was included in my burrito and the waitress said no after she lied to us.

16 dollars for a taco meal when other places offer 6 dollars.... I went there and did a carry out and they charge 10% extra. So glad I have to pay more just to leave with my food instead of staying. They also don't accept refunds when they messed up my order. So just make sure you read their hidden fees before you go it's also on their cover on their menu. They charge 20% when you stay as well; and you need to scan the menu to know the actual pricing of everything. Seriously just a waste of money when you can go somewhere else which is way better and cheaper.

Cynthia was the most rudest person I have ever interacted with ever in any sort of customer service. Went back to get the rest of my food and nothing but attitude. Tried to even charge us more than we already got overcharged with. It's actually insane how she handle the situation. Hopefully it was just an off night and not how she usually is.

We’ve ordered takeout about 5 times in the last 6 months. At first we were very impressed, at least the first few times we had it. But unfortunately, been very disappointed the last couple times. The food lacks flavor and seems to need a marinade for meat and more seasoning for their food in general. Also, they have messed up our order a few times and charged us for items we didn’t receive. This place just wasn’t good. So many TikTok’s about their margarita flight and it was such a let down. The citrus tasted like Minute Maid Orange juice. Hibiscus has no flavor, the jalapeño cucumber had high hopes but tasted like it was premade, the mango was watered down. The chips were drenched in oil and so inedible. I really wanted to like this place and support my Latina sisters.

We live nearby and had heard great things about Taqueria El Gallo de Oro, so we decided to give it a try. The food itself was solid—we enjoyed our entrees, the guacamole was fresh, and our daughter liked her chicken fingers. However, one thing that immediately stood out to us was the lack of prices on the menu. My husband and I both have long histories in the restaurant industry, and this was definitely unusual.

We each ordered an entrée, shared guacamole, and decided to try the margarita flights. At 16 oz each, they were tasty but nothing top shelf—no premium tequila and or anything truly special.

When we got the bill, we were shocked to see the margarita flights priced at $35 each—$70 for 32 ounces of margarita. Everything else on the bill was reasonably priced, which made the cost of the drinks feel even more out of place. I asked the server why they were so expensive, and even she seemed unsure. She admitted the tequila used wasn’t anything special, and honestly, a full bottle of it probably costs less than what we paid for one flight.

Not listing prices is one thing, but charging premium prices for a basic drink without warning your customers feels misleading. It left a bad taste in my mouth, and unfortunately, we won’t be returning.

Oh. My. Gosh. Why has it taken me so long to dine here? My husband works in LG and frequents here. He wanted to take myself and our daughter out for Mother's Day lunch here so we met him. Honestly, I just can't say enough good things, but I am going to try! We were greeted by one of the friendliest people I have run into hosting, luckily, there was one table left on the patia (which is fantastic by the way). Waitress was very prompt with our drink and app order. Let me get into the nitty gritty.
Hibiscus Margarita, AMAZING! And I mean it. I like to consider myself a margarita connoisseur and this was in my top 5 of all of the places I have been in the country. No joke. My husband had a margarita with a full size beer in it, which was also amazing in it's own right. My eyes are always bigger than my stomach, but my husband indulged us. Queso and Guac to start, phenomenal (but took most of it home). My daughter and I ordered Chicken and Steak quesadillas which I hate to say is my go to at new establishments. (I will NOT make that mistake again, here). They were great, but the menu is full of traditional offerings that I cannot wait to try. Part of their specials for Mother's Day was Elote in a cup and it was very flavorful. I'm not sure if it is on the menu all of the time, but a girl can hope. Here is the star of the show: The Quesabirrias Con Consome. Order it. Love it. Come back and order it again. So fresh. So delicious. I ended up eating one of my husbands and wished that I had ordered my own.
This place is out of the hustle and bustle of downtown Lake Geneva and the parking is FREE. Which if you are from around here, you love to see this as a local.
Please go and support this establishment. You will not be disappointed.

I’m giving a five star for the food because it was well intended. Taste is different as expected. We were coming from Chicago. Ordered a stuffed pepper torta, not on the menu, but it was made for us. $20 for the torta but it was enough for two people. Got the tamale dinner special and tacos. Came back for the taco tuesday, we weren’t told but it was expected that arrachera, lengua and tripas are charged extra. Food was delicious, service was okay. We ate out, extra fee. On vacation so expected to pay. Food is worth trying when in town.

I contacted this place for catering, as their online menu seemed decent along with fair pricing. After discussing with Cynthia via email, I decided what would need to be ordered for the catering. Once I sent the email stating what I wanted to order, Cynthia stopped responding, even after I sent multiple emails requesting a follow up. Due to this, I had to make the decision to order catering elsewhere, meaning these guys just lost a nearly $600 sale.

I've eaten here before and really enjoyed the food, but the lack of communication was very unprofessional on their part which was off-putting to me. I am unsure if I will visit again because of that.

For reference, we were not going to need this order for a couple of months, so it was not requested last second.

Great little place. We have gone twice within 2 weeks. The steak tacos are so flavorful. Also tried the Birria tacos. They are really good (a cup of consume would have put it over the top). Different ladies were working both times we went. Everyone is so nice and welcoming. Worth the 30 minute drive for us to go to a consistent, nice place. we have not eaten / ordered from here since may of 2023 because of repeated botched orders without adequate recompense.

tonight, the other two authentic mexican places in town were closed, so we decided to try again.

my husband ordered his chorizo tacos “mexican style” — understood as cilantro and onion at every other mexican place we’ve ever been to.

see photo — his tacos came with meat only, nothing else.

he ordered an order of queso with meat — see photos — was a very small amount and the charge was $15.
menu had NO prices on it.
yes, he could have asked the price for every single item before ordering, but that becomes awkward and cumbersome.
their menu items are not “catch of the day / market price” items — why not post prices?

all in all, we renewed our resolve not to eat here again.

p.s. i love leaving reviews for local establishments, and 99% of my reviews are 5-star reviews. i’m very, very hesitant to leave negative reviews, and rarely do, but this experience merited it.

Didn’t even get the chance to dine in. We were sat and no one came to check on us, no one came to take our orders. We had to ask for menus after 10 min of sitting and waiting. Even then, no one came to help us for another 5 min so we left.

As we were leaving we were told that we weren’t being served because we “had sat ourselves and they were behind”. When I pointed out that we were sat by another server, the server who sat us confirmed that she did indeed sit us.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t it the job of a restaurant to provide good service? I would not return. What a shame.

I can’t even rate the food because I never got it. The waiter came to ask what we wanted to drink and looked annoyed. After a long wait the table next to us sat down and they got their drinks straight away. We ended up just having to leave because of the wait. They clarify at the door they are not a fast food restaurant with a sign but that doesn’t mean we should have to wait for even drinks for 40+ minutes. Your a small business for a reason.

We were in the Lake Geneva area and decided to stop by here as it sounded really good! 😊 we walked in and the air already felt tense but we had to try it before we said anything. First off we got our guacamole and she already rolled her eyes (the waiter) when she served it. Like I am paying you but thx! We ordered our drinks and then we went to wait and it was 10 minutes. But as I said we don’t wanna doubt. They never came.. like honey I am paying for this you know that right? But also they put ice and then the horchata in it which is in the big drink tanks and couldn’t even bring it.. We left and they all gave us dirty looks like you can honestly kiss it😊.. but we can’t rate the food cause we never got it haha.. also the people who came in 15 mins after us got their drinks(the horchata) and got it before us! Thanks for making my family doubt the area I will make sure to tell my friends and family about this place that can’t do anything but put a frown on my little pretty face 😇

We were seated quickly and the server was nice and attentive. There were no prices on the menu and we were given a flute of water with no ice while other tables had ice. Not a big deal but they were reusing the flutes and you had to use your hands to flip the cap off. Guaranteed there were other peoples hands all over the spout. Chips and pico de gallo were okay. We ordered the enchilada dinner and the taco dinner. The ingredient quality was seemingly very bad. I had never seen ground beef in such big chunks and so dry. The rice and beans had an odd taste to them. I’ve had Mexican all my life ranging from canned beans to expensive and this was the worst I’ve had. The cheese was pre packaged and I got charged an extra 75¢ for the cheese. The taco dinner was $16 and absolutely not worth it. I’ve had $9 of taco dinners much better than that. The enchilada dinner came with an excessive amount of red sauce that he could not eat due to the taste. He tried eating just the filling but could only finish a little. Enchilada Platillio was $15. Also I was given a margarita straw I think for my soda and it just fell in the cup, my partner didn’t even get a fork in his silverware. I would never come here again or recommend it. I’m sure it used to be good or something but they definitely cheapened out on the food. Customers were constantly coming in as well as pick up orders so maybe it was just our food. But the server was really nice, I don’t blame her.

I've ordered from here many times and usually get steak torta. They are usually awesome. Today I ordered one and the bread was stale and when I picked it up it all crumbled apart. The food here is a little pricey but if it's good I don't mind.
I doubt we'll be coming back here for takeout or dine in. The quality of their food has gone down hill.

We ate in the courtyard patio, which has a wonderful and whimsical atmosphere. The staff was very friendly, though we waited a bit, and the food/drinks were pretty good. Interestingly, the menu had no prices. Would definitely go again.

DO NOT COME HERE!! We came for my sisters birthday we waited one hour and still no food we ended up just having to walk out. We got Horchata and Guacamole - not good at all. The entire hour we were there the server checked on us ONCE. She didn’t try to help us when we said we were just going to leave. For drinks and guac we paid almost $100 the manager did not come to apologize and did nothing to reconcile. If I could give one star I would.

Great place and has an outstanding door patio besides inside seating. The place was packed when my Son and I arrived, but we were sat immediately. Chips n salsa were the bomb, the Guac the bomb, the tacos and burritos... You guessed it THE BOMB. These girls run there butts off here and you can see why it's a smooth operation. Our server was fantastic, all the servers were in their game - Job well done.

It always hurts spending allot of money for food and it's boarder line unedible. That was our experience here. For a family of 6 2 of the meals were comped 2 just had a grill cheese sandwich and me and my wife each had 1 small margarita our bill was around $120.00 I'm a huge fan of Spanish foods and seek them out whenever we travel birria tacos being one of my favorites so I ordered the qusibirria and a Al pastor taco. my qusibirria was just normal birria tacos, the shells were hard and the meat tasted like unseasoned roast the consume tasted like tomato water and onions (definitely was not simmered with the an adobe or any chili peppers ect. The Al pastor was really good and wished I would have stuck with tacos. The 2 dishes that were comped (my kids couldn't eat them) were the enchiladas the red sauce was just tomato paste no hnts of chili's orgarlic just tomato. When it comes to service our waiter was really nice but was not attentive at all (took my wife 20 minutes to get a fork in order to eat her taco salad) the ambiance was nice and cozy and the margaritas tasted good but we're spend for the size.

I went by myself (1 person) to try out this place. They charged me a 20% gratuity by default and then also had the option of "Additional Tip" after you pay. Gratuity always is for large groups of people and I personally didn't like this.

The service was slow, I had asked for a taco dinner and it took around 30-35min. Orders got mixed up twice for me.

I requested to sit in the open area but then had to fight some flying insects now and then.

Surprise pricing and required gratuity have got to go. No prices listed so I guess everything is market rate? $16 for a small burrito which was worth $10-12 at best. $6 for a single taco. Went for a mother's day dinner with my wife. Order 2 margarita flights and bunch of food items. All of the items were very good.
Here comes the reason for 1 star rating. When the cheque came, the flight of Margarita was $35 each! The flight was 4 items of 4oz each. This is definitely a ripoff :-( I have never seen such ridiculous amount of money charged in a casual restaurant. There was no mention of the price anywhere on the menu. Voiced my concern to the onsite manager but nothing came out of it. Ended a very beautiful mother's day on a sour note.

Went on Cinco de Mayo! Had a tasty margarita for sure.
They have inside and patio seating. I did street parking.
You get chips and homemade salsa. You can put your variety of hot sauce on the chips, yourself.
I had the homemade Maza tortilla dinner with chicken, tomato, cilantro, and onion. It comes with a side of rice and refried beans. I also ordered a side of avocado.
The food was very hot and delicious. Josephine was an awesome waitress.

The only drawback, the menu does not include prices. Which can unnerve someone on a limited budget.

Stopped for dinner while out of town for a convention. Our waitress Chelsea was super friendly and helpful. We stopped on a Tuesday so they had a taco Tuesday special. They had fresh Pico on the table and different sauces. If you try the orange one it is got a kick to it.

DeAngelo and Smokey Robinson both sang "Baby Let's Cruise" and that's what we did on this road to Lake Geneva, Wisconsin ... These taco's and drinks hit every note... I got sick after eating at this restaurant and missed out on a day and a half of work.

I travel enough to know the symptoms of food related illness could not be more clear, and the timing further validated this. After spending two healthy months in Mexico I came back home and a few days later grabbed a meal at this restaurant with my mom. I’m no stranger to Mexican food and I got three plain tacos. The meat was terribly dry, hard and overcooked. I didn’t get the toppings I asked for on my tacos, but my mom did and gave some of hers to me. My mom and I got different meats, taco shells and toppings and she did not get sick. However, her meat was also extraordinarily dry and did not taste good overall.

I almost never leave reviews. I’m leaving this review to put some pressure on this restaurant and any other like it to improve their sanitary standards so as to avoid illness for other visitors. I love to frequent restaurants like this, so long as I can trust basic best practices are consistently implemented so that I do not get sick. Unfortunately, I do not believe that is the case for this restaurant.

Tacos to die for. I also really like the tamales. They do a good job of not using too much masa and having a very flavorful filling. Good chips and salsa. Enchiladas also good. Recommend the salsa verde over the salsa rojo but both are good. Also pozole is terrific when you can get it.

Wow! Jaw dropping experience. We aren't local and decided to try out this spot. Food was basic at best. We felt rushed by our server all night. However, it was okay. As we are leaving, our server pulled us back to ask about her service and told us she felt her tip was not adequate. I have never had a server corner me about their tip not being "enough". She tried to tell us she expects 20% and felt her service met that... I'm still in shock. We adequately tipped her and I will NEVER return to this place. Just wow!!!

Well, the food is not good, I ordered a quesabirria and the soup was sour and I told the waitress and she exchanged them for 3 tacos de asada, the flavorless meat was all dry, they brought me the bill and they charged me for everything in full and I spoke to the manager because he was charging me for something I didn't eat and they still charged me a 20% tip, there were only two of us. The truth is that I do not recommend that you go to eat there with the menu without the price of the food.
