This is my #1 place to get tacos in all of Dane County. Their Chorizo tacos have the perfect kick and are so delicious you can't even order tacos from anywhere else without wishing they were these tacos instead! They also do takeout and will whip up food quickly for you so this is a perfect stop on the way home as well.

We got a taco plate and horchata.
Pros: Barbacoa and carne asada and beans were good.
Mids: salsas were just okay, taco plate came without chiles toreados which is a big bummer for me, the horchata was alright.
Cons: rice was not good. The Al Pastor was atrocious. Sketchy fatty under cooked meat with not a lot of flavor. And $17.50 for a taco plate and a agua Fresca is insane.

This might be fine for people from Madison but not for me. Get me back to Texas/Oklahoma.

Visited from out of town. I don’t write many reviews but WOW this place is amazing. As soon as I walked in a gentleman greeted me with a smile and was very enthusiastic to help me. I just finished my dinner and I couldn’t wait to write this review. I had 2 quesabirria tacos and 2 beef tacos. Everything was amazing! From the moment I walked in the door to the moment I left I felt the staff was happy to see me walk in the door. Would 1000% come back here if I’m in the area again!!

I have eaten here for years. Their shrimp tacos were perfectly cooked. The best. A few years ago it seems they might have sold to new owners. I started seeing new faces and the shrimp was overcooked. And worst of all: the smell of Fabuloso cleaning solution. I mean, nothing wrecks an appetite like a dose of highly caustic cleaning solution. After several visits with the overcooked shrimp and the cleaning solution, it was clear to me that this was the new norm. So sadly, I stopped going. Business owners: please don't gas out your customers with cleaning solution. Fabuloso is sickening.

Great Mexican! This is the real deal- none of that Chipotle or Tex-Mex here… 100% legit! Always fresh and bursting with authentic flavor! The owner greets you by the counter positive and upbeat, runs down the specials and takes your order. Large portions and unquestionably fair prices. Usually plenty of parking. Know in advance that this place TAKES a tip from you. They don't ask, they just include 15% in your bill so be careful when paying with a credit card. I would have added an additional tip had it not been for my wife looking at the receipt!

We both had enchilada's and I will say that I thought it was pretty EXPENSIVE at $15 per plate, add in two margaritas and our total bill was $57 dollars! I said $57 dollars for beans, rice, and enchiladas, perhaps the second thing to know about this place.

Finally, the food and the sauces (sauces were fresh - meaning they tasted like they were made same day. The orange sauce is habanero - so it is hot, but tasted awesome!! Great flavor and a nice bang.) were great! Perhaps one of the closest "authentic Mexican" meals I've had since I lived in Texas! Actually felt like I was sitting in San Antonio or a taqueria in Houston with Tejano music playing in the background.

So to close: Tips are taken at the register, it is expensive AND the food is good - check it out!!! : >-).

Best tripa tacos that I've found in town. Every taco I've had has been superb. I practically go once a week for lunch. Great salsa. Occasionally inconsistent, but never bad. If youre looking to grab something quick the steak burrito is served near instantly.

2024 update: there's been some staff changing here, new faces and some new changes. A more expansive salsa offering beyond your salsa roja and Verde. There's a spicy haberno and an avocado salsa now. Food remains top tier. Still the all rounder favorite for me when it comes to tacos. Other places might have a item that's better, but when it comes to that overall plate, this place is tops.

For that crunchy fried tripa, the new salsa pair great. If you want the chewy texture, go La Rosita.

The service is great. I ordered a steak, pastor taco, a chicken gordita and chips with guacamole and salsa. I didn't get to try the steak as they gave me chicken, but all three lacked any distinct flavor. The salsa and guacamole were just the same. This place is legit. I went there on a whim to by my family some food and I was surprised to how good it was. It said my food would be ready in 10 minutes after I ordered and I was like"no shot" and then I showed up and they were packing. My food up. The guy that was at the counter was super friendly and the whole place was a genuine Mexican resurant experience. The food was also delicious and huge for what I orders. I don't think there was a single thing we got that anyone didn't love.

I would go back there so fast. We ordered the quesadilla, tamales, chimichanga, fajitas, and kids chicken and all of it looked amazing and tasted amazing. Give this place a try if not just for the friendly face at the counter.

The chorizo tacos are SO GOOD. I continually crave them. The steak tacos come in at a very close second. Food is reasonably priced and comes out fast and hot. The red hot sauce that comes with the tacos is delicious. They also have a very good cheese dip, and their tortilla chips are delicious. For a quick easy meal, I would 100% recommend this place.

Update: I've been ordering for a couple years and have always been happy. Tonight I ordered a classic side of chips and cheese dip for dinner and although the price of $6 stayed the same, the portions where cut by half, and the salsa was so sour it was indelible. This was unexpected and is disappointing when planning for a couple people. Inconsistently lately with the rename of the restaurant is disappointing.

Taqueria Gonzales is muy authentico! Seriously this place is the place to go on the west side for delicious authentic hearty Mexican food. I'm not exactly qualified to say that just based an my own experience (although I did grow up in CA and spent 12 years in Los Angeles!). I actually this is the authentic place to go because of the clientele (see video!)

Their meat selection is terrific! Barbacoa, lingua, chicken, pork, chorizo... All fresh tasty and we'll seasoned and cooked.

I love their tacos and burritos, but the fajita, enchilada, and other favorites are all great!

Service is fast and friendly.... And very reasonably priced! And they even have a small grocery for Hispanic cooking items.

Ordered 12 tamales for $20.00 plus tax ok no problem, ordered 12 steak tacos each $3.16 each plus tax, ok no problem. OMG THE TAMALES, are the worse tamales I’ve ate in my entire life, I lived in Chicago, Pueblo Colorado, I never have I ran across tamales being made so badly, dry cornmeal masa filled with tiny shredded meats chicken and or pork absolutely no flavor and the meat inside the tamales is no more than one small teaspoon shredded meat for one bite the rest you are eating plain water flavor steamed cornmeal masa.

That was waste of my money, waste of my trip to the restaurant, if I have lived closer they would have the food back for my full refund. I had to share, I love to leave good reviews but this was gross food I’ve wasted my money on. Pictures are deceiving!

It’s either a hit or miss with their tacos. But on the days that they are great, it makes you want more. I would definitely stay on the safer side and choose chicken tacos instead of the others. The steak tacos can be iffy at times

Bomb tacos, tripa is hard to execute and these guys do it well.

Tacos were freaking great.

Carnitas, chorizo, & shredded beef with plenty of cilantro & lime.

Add the Jarritos & it was only $12.

Great price, great food, super fast service.

10/10, would eat here again.
