Everything tasted sour. I don't know why. I've never tasted Mediterranean food this sour before. I am disappointed. Only good item was the grilled onion. Rice was cold.

Taza has the best falafel I've had in Madison, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Love the hummus and baba too, and it's the only place we've been to that has Lebanese-style tabouli ( mostly parsley instead of mostly bulgar).

Outstanding grill items and lesser-known mediterranean dishes. Fúl and Coco Wawa are amazing. More casual atmosphere. Highly recommend this hidden gem.

Fantastic tasty experience!! Ordered the Fattee Bel-Lahmeh which came in a massive portion size (easy 3 meals in one). It tasted fresh, spiced right, and flavorful. The dishes are served with soup or salad and I ordered the yellow split pea soup which, again, was loaded with flavor and delicious. The table also enjoyed baba ghanouj which we devoured as it was fresh tasting and very enjoyable. Will definitely have to make the trip back here again soon!

There was perfect level volume of music. The wait staff was friendly and understanding. The food quality was top notch and we ate everything we could until we were stuffed. I especially liked that we could get a family order and eat family style so that everyone could try a little bit of everything.

Food came out in a reasonable time, and everything was delicious and packed with flavor. The hummus might just be my favorite in Madison. I literally used every piece of pita to swipe the plate CLEAN. Another favorite of mines was the spinach lentil soup! It was a lovely blend of tangy and sour. The seafood soup was also very rich and flavorful (I could truly taste the seafood in the broth.) Perfect balance of savory dishes, creamy dips, and comforting soups.

Restaurant that offers a variety of Middle Eastern dishes. Their Yellow Split Pea soup is absolutely incredible- a wonderful blend of savory spices! The Lamb Couscous was tender but was rather bland.

The service is great; the servers are attentive and make sure you have pita.

There is plenty of free parking in the free parking lot.

AWESOME food! But may actually be better as pick up/delivery. Both times we've dined in, there has been something unsavory: lots of gnats or lipstick on multiple tea cups. Gyro meat and hummus are so good that I keep coming back!

I was so excited to eat here but it was quite the disappointment. We got the hummus, which was quite delicious, and the beef-stuffed artichokes and sorar. The beef-stuffed artichokes initially tasted good, but after a couple of bits, the center was cold. Obviously previously prepared and not warmed up correctly. The sorar was okay at best, but was amplified with the very small amount of sauce that was included. Overall disappointing, but it could be becuase of the dishes we ordered. We both got sides- seafood soup and a salad. Both of which were subpar. The soup was very fishy and the salad was mostly vinegar. Staff was pleasant and the wine was as you would buy at the store.

Such a great authentic restaurant. We started with hummus and grape leaves for appetizers and in hindsight we would’ve been full off of all the hummus with our dish (they have big servings) but it was so good. Very creamy and flavorful. The Greek salad was delicious but a ton of feta. For the entree I had chicken kebabs which were excellent. And the desserts were made very well. Overall a great place for Mediterranean food and their staff were all so nice and helpful.

Taza catered a small dinner for 12. I ordered carry out - a selection of mazza, tabbouleh, falafel, grilled meat and rice. All I had to do was heat up a few of the dishes and serve. My guests - including the less adventuresome ones - LOVED it. The owner even called the next day to ensure all went well. I highly recommend Taza for dine in or carry out.

The lamb shank or leg of lamb was very difficult to cut with a butter knife. The description in the menu reads -fall off the bone which is not accurate. Also, the mango shake or smoothie contained bananas, which is not disclosed in the menu.

We had an enjoyable late luncheon here. I’m giving it a 4 rather than a 5 because the babaghanoush was not thick enough and the pita bread was not fresh even though it was warmed up. They have an intensive menu with lots of reasonable choices for lunch. A great place overall.

Good food and service. Clean restaurant.
Tabouli was good, would be better served with a lemon wedge.

Lentil soup was good. I was expecting crushed lentil like most similar restaurants but this one had nice spices to it.

Hummus appetizer with meat on top was great.

Delicious food, overall generous portions, nice atmosphere. Loved that there were a few beers and wines on the menu that were reflective of the Mediterranean region. We had the gyro plate and the lamb kebab, and we each had one of the amazing house soups. The entrees were both good, but the kebab was outstanding, as were both soups and the tiramisu we had for dessert. The two disappointments: 1) the pita bread (VERY dry and tough, nothing like the fresh, soft, pillowy pita people were mentioning in other reviews) and 2) the baklava, which was also quite dry and a very small portion as compared to our tiramisu (photo is misleading as baklava is in the foreground so it seems bigger). It was good enough that we'll return to give it another whirl, though!!!

Food was OK. I got a lamb shish kebab which wasn’t very well cooked and the rice wasn’t flavorful. The service was rude and inconsiderate, interrupting our table at the wrong times. The seating options are somewhat awkwardly placed but I don’t think that’s a huge deal to most people.

★ 2

Mediocre Mediterranean wrapped in a pretty bow. The atmosphere is fantastic, but the food ingredients are whitewashed commercialized garbage with very low flavor and mostly Frozen products.

Not trying to hurt anyone's feelings but using fresh ingredients and quality spice makes a big difference. Also, I'd recommend trying to make authentic chicken shawarma instead of throwing it together on a plate and calling it chicken shawarma. Travel to Egypt or any country where this food is from and you'll think you're eating at Taco Bell when you go here.

Great option for middle eastern and mediterranean food. This is a 3.5 star review. Friendly helpful staff. Extensive menu with options that a geared for large groups and people that like to share. Everything we ate was fantastic. Started with the lentil spinach soup. Don’t skip the soup; it is delicious and lemony. The stuffed artichoke was a surprise - it is baked in sauce and white sauce. The kefta kabob platter was great and enough for the two of us to split. The kefta was a tiny bit too dry but well seasoned and tasty. We had a glass of wine; they have a light selection but enough for this type of dining. Included the bill, split to show how much the total was and how much it was for one person. Nice spot to satisfy your cravings, enjoy!

This is my new forever spot when I come to town! A+ for both food and service! If I had to describe my ideal server, Taylor was it! She had an amazing attitude, was so kind, and went above and beyond when a SMALL mistake was made and a single oil was forgotten in my HUGE to go order (aka it was a simple mistake and one easily made ((and forgiven)) when serving so much food, and I was staying 4 mins away, so an easy drive back to grab the missed item). Mahmoud was an amazing chef, and was friendly as well! I would go back just for the service these two offered, but the food was top notch, and now I will always stop here when in the area! We had Greek salad, gyros, pita and oil, falafel, Knafeh and the baklava! ALL of it was 100%! I’m not picky but my husband is and he loved it too! Also I’m obsessed with their Tamerend Drink. Try a bit of everything, you won’t regret it!

I’d heard good things about Taza before finally eating there a few weeks ago. Everything we had was delicious. The kibbeh appetizer was amazing and arrived right away, which was great because we were extremely hungry. The Moroccan seafood soup that came with my chicken shawarma was to die for, super flavorful with ample chunks of seafood. My wife got the gyros, which came with enough meat to make several sandwiches. And not the super greasy lamb we’ve grown accustomed to here in the US, but thick meaty strips packed with flavor. The hummus was creamy and delicious as well. My only regret was not ordering more baklava. Service was great and food arrived quickly, even with a relatively packed house on a Friday evening. All in all hands down the best Mediterranean food I’ve had in years. Highly recommend.

Excellent place to eat!
We were amazed for the excellent food they have....just delicious. My wife and I enjoyed every single bite. You feel/taste, they put quality ingredients, and the food is made with passion and love.
Menu is extensive, and they have several options: beef, chicken,.fish? . The plate was big.even for me that I am used to finishing all the dishes.
We took leftovers home, and my daughter fished it, and she requested to take her next time.
You definitely need to try and support local business. You won't regret it.
We loved it , and we will be back to try other dishes this time with our daughters.

Not sure why this place has such a high rating. It may just be that lunch service differs from dinner. We had a kefta sandwich and falafel sandwich, one with soup added and one with salad added. But the lettuce was tough and bitter— the sandwiches and salad difficult to eat.

I think the food is overall good. Would come back again. We tried the chicken kabob, beef kabob, chicken shawarma and lentil soup. My opinion is that the chicken was tastier than the beef. The soup is great though. I also think there's something missing on the tzatziki sauce as felt like sour cream and garlic only, maybe missing more cucumber.

If you're a fan of Mediterranean cuisine, Taza is a must-visit spot! I always seek out places that offer not only delicious food but also a great dining experience, and Taza delivered on both fronts.

From the moment we walked in, the servers were attentive and made sure we never wanted for anything. The meal started with some fantastic falafel, perfectly crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. We opted for the platter for two as our main entree, and it was a hit! The portions were generous, and we even had enough leftovers for another meal. The hummus and pea soup were standouts—absolutely outstanding flavors.

While the interior may feel a bit cold and spacious, the incredible flavors more than makeup for it. The chicken shawarma, falafel bowl, and lamb shish kabob were all delicious, though a tad dry. However, the Moroccan seafood soup was a favorite, and the service was superb.

For those with dietary restrictions, Taza offers many gluten-free and vegetarian options. The chickpea and bean stew served with an abundance of garlic, was a new and delightful experience for me. The vegan spinach pie was rich and creamy, a far cry from the often dry versions you find elsewhere.

The desserts are a highlight, especially the vegan baklava and cardamom almond dates, which paired perfectly with a cup of decaf. The kunafa was sweet, crunchy, and simply irresistible.

Overall, Taza is a great spot for a flavorful and satisfying Mediterranean meal. The outdoor seating and comfortable booths make for a pleasant dining experience. Plus, the prices are reasonable, making it a great value for the quality of food and service you receive. Whether you're looking for a quick bite or a leisurely meal, Taza is definitely worth a visit!

We were seated quickly in a clean dining area, and I was struck by how easily we could hear each other without being distracted by conversations at nearby tables (I'm a sucker for good acoustics).

The staff were attentive and very friendly -- especially our waiter. He had a great demeanor and was happy to go through our Mazza plate to identify all the lovely appetizers for us.

Their moussaka is some of the best I've ever had -- and vegetarian too!

We ordered the Lebanese Taza Mazza plate (also vegetarian) as an appetizer and between that and our Greek salads, we were full before even starting on the entrees. But you won't hear any complaints from me -- I love leftovers! :)

This is definitely my new favorite spot. Next time, we'll invite another couple to join us: I think splitting that gorgeous Mazza plate will be perfect for four people.

We love this place, but boy they blew it tonight. Our waiter took our order and an hour later, we still had not seen our food and saw that everyone who arrived after us was eating theirs, if not finished. We asked about our food, were told they were busy and things were slow, but even 20 minutes after that, nothing. We never even saw our waiter again. Great of them to comp our salad, bread and beer but what, no apology? Sorry we wasted your time? We’ve eaten at Taza before and love their food but the service tonight was nonexistent. One of our all time worst restaurant experiences, and we’ve had some bad ones.

We had an excellent dinner at Taza. The servers were very attentive and we never wanted for anything because they were always one step ahead. The food was delicious. We started with falafel and for our main entree we got the platter for 2. Delicious! We had enough food leftover for another meal. Additionally the pea soup and the hummus were OUTSTANDING! We will be back!

Wow, fantastic lunch. I had the beef shawarma combo platter. The tabouli is a delicious parsley forward recipe and the hummus is so smooth and tasty it's hard to believe. Their yogurt sauce really highlighted the beef. Delicious!

As a side note, I tried the Arabic coffee. Handcrafted by the owner just for you. Wow, a strong mixture with a cardamom under note. Let it sit for a minute to cool.and settle, then enjoy the flavor. If I could have this for breakfast every day I'd be the happiest person in the world.

Fans of the Shish Cafe (formerly on University Ave) & Lulu’s (formerly on old University Avenue) will like the MIddle Eastern fare on offer at Taza. Atmosphere is low key, service is competent, food is prepared with care. If you have the time for an unhurried dining experience, check out Taza. I particularly enjoy the stuffed salmon and the Sorar, a wonderful baked entree with spiced beef and onions. Kabobs are wonderful as are the hummus, baba ghanoush, & stuffed grape leaf sides. Soups are wonderful as well. Combination dinners are available if you are particularly hungry or if you simply want to have tasty leftovers to bring home. Highly recommended!

If I could give 6 stars, I would. I've never had Middle Eastern (and more specifically, Lebanese) food.

My partner and I tried the felafel and M'hamra appetizers first. The M'hamra was a delicious, cool, tomato-red pepper type dip with a mild heat. I have a low heat tolerance, and still found this delectable and palettable. The felafel was the best I ever had! Perfectly crisp and browned on the outside, while steamy, tender, and fluffy on the inside. The included yogurt sauce was so refreshing.

For our entrees, we had the Couscous and Taza Cannelloni. I have to watch the dairy, so I only tried a bite of the Cannelloni. It was so fragrant, cheesy, savory, and smooth. The Couscous, simply named, surprised me with its tender vegetables, hearty couscous, and well-rounded flavor. The tomato sauce in both dishes was smooth and low-acidity, fragrant and well seasoned. I loved the tender zuchunni, cabbage, and carrot in theCouscous, very much. On the side, we each tried a vegetarian soup. Both were great.

The wonderful surprise treat was the Arabic Coffee, served "Turkish Style" in a Dallah. The coffee was roasted with cardamom and produced the most rich, inviting coffee aroma one could process with the sensory nerves given to humans. I love espresso, and this was the next-level coffee I've been looking for. It was very strong and drunk without sugar or cream, which, if you enjoy black coffee, I would highly recommend trying. Be careful not to chug the last sip, as it will have fine grounds in it.

Overall, Taza is an instant classic I will be enjoying as much as possible. I absolutely loved the food!

My son brought over dinner tonight after my spouse underwent a cardiac procedure, taking to heart the "Mediterranean Diet" recommendation and ordered Sorar and Chicken Shawarma along with Mediterranean salads and Baba ghanoush. This place is the closest thing to the (now closed) Nile Restaurant on Odana Road that exists in the Madison area. I think it may be co-owned by the former owner (very similar menu.) A new favorite place for us!

I was in town for work and was looking for something healthier. Lebanese wasn't what I was thinking but glad I tried it. The flaffel was fantastic!! I also was worried the "bowl" would be small. I tried the grilled sirloin tips bowl. Fantastic flavor and cooked perfectly over a bed of greens and veges. Hands down when I'm back ill definitely becoming back! If your on the fence, give Taza a try. Glad I did!

I haven't ate in Middleton in a while, so I originally came here expecting to sit down at Compadres. I didn't realize that the restaurant had moved locations until I already asked to be seated. But honestly, I'm glad I was able to sit down and have a meal here!

I had the Chicken shawarma sandwich for lunch and it was fantastic! Fresh warm pita and cooked to order chicken, with so much flavor and spices in each bite with a healthy portion of fries for my side. I definitely want to try more when I come back. It seems like a great option for Mediterranean food!

On my way out, I grabbed a pound of hummus which included pita bread. It makes such a good snack and is definitely fresh made.

I definitely recommend giving them a try!!

Excellent Mediterranen food. You just can't go wrong with any dish. Hands down best falafel in town (Banzo is a close no. 2). We got Mazza for 2. Hummus, Baba Ghanouj (egg plant dish), and M'Hamra (red pepper dish) were all very flavorful. Bisara (Fava beans dish) is super mild and something that you can feed kids easily. Tabouli salad tasted super fresh and refreshing. Overall, the best Mediterranen food in town with a lot of vegetarian options!

I ordered take out and our food was great! We tried a bunch of stuff. I recommend the grilled salmon bowl if you're looking for a fresh healthy option. In fact, all of the salads were awesome. Falafel was great, as was the gyro plate. Big portions. The young man brought my food to my car since I am on crutches, and he was very pleasant about it! I can't wait to sit on the patio and eat with a glass of wine.
My only downside was Styrofoam take out containers. I wish they would use something recyclable or compostable.
