I have never been here and wanted to use my City Tin coaster, I enjoyed a delightful meal and enjoyed the cozy intimate atmosphere. My waiter was fantastic and the food very good. Had the smelt and mussels appetizers and both were flavorful and tasty, the arugula salad was fresh and the perch and barramundi fish fry good. Will definitely be back to try something else next time.

Our server Moi was extremely attentive & professional. He was efficient & able to communicate with the mgr. about my disappointment with the portion of the sea bass. Although delicious, it was a ridiculously small portion. In the end, the chef prepared another piece of the fish. Everything else was absolutely delicious, e.g., the salad, salmon entree, wine & flourless chocolate cake. Highly recommend especially Moi, our server.

First time in, Friday night for two of us for a friend’s birthday. Everything was superb, food was so delicious, staff was very accommodating. Friendly and helpful service from my questions over the phone before booking, to altering our reservation, to dinner service with our wonderful server Moi, to serving my carry-in cake. Homemade bread was excellent and their tomato sauce was out of this world. I got the cioppino he got the ravioli and we just kept raving about the sauce. 5 stars highly recommend

First time here. Was recommended by some friends and we were not disappointed. Make a reservation, for 6pm and got in right away. We were the only customers at that time, and a few other tables filled up later.
The waitress (Jada)did a great job of getting us seated and settled in. Gave us plenty of information about the menu and specials. Got the special Pesto Sea Bass which was amazing. Service was efficient, but we did not feel rushed. The rest of the meal was all very good.
We will be back.

By far one of the best meals we have had. We live in DC area with many good restaurants and Tess was better than some of our best restaurants. Was sat outside on the patio next to the electrical box and a bunch of wires. Took over 45 minutes for our entre food to arrive and when it did, it was cold and severely over-salted.
The appetizer was tasty, so was the soup. The server was very friendly but clearly spread too thin to wait on more than 1 table at a time. Very nice folks but won't need to come back.

The clam chowder was amazing and that is sadly where anything good ends with our experience. We got four fish dishes, two were over cooked (salmon) and the fish fry was just okay. But putting the food aside, there was some suggestion in the reviews that this is a family friendly restaurant. It is not. We went with our toddler and let’s just say if we weren’t there with my in-laws, we would’ve left shortly after the soup due to the comments from (I’m assuming) the manager behind the bar and the rude stares that came afterwards as we tried to calm our toddler to not disturb the other guests (as we waited for our food which took longer than expected). It is his restaurant, so he is free to request whatever he would like of his guests, but maybe finding a less rude and jarring way of asking would be a good place to start. So long story short, if you have kids and want your fish to not be overcooked (which you’d expect from a predominantly seafood restaurant), maybe try another place instead.

We wanted to try somewhere new and we’re headed for Original but saw the patio across the street and glad we changed plans. Service was so PLEASANT and the outdoor space was really cute. Food was some of the best I’ve had in Milwaukee. Steak in the mushroom and wine reduction was so good I asked for more bread (also delicious) to sop up the leftover juices. My friend got the ravioli and I stole a couple extra bites from his plate. Honorable mention goes to the neighborhood setting of the location. Vibe and atmosphere was perfect for casual conversations/small celebrations/nice meal with old friends/date night.

We tried this restaurant for a third time recently. The patio is nice but the tables and salt/pepper were sticky. The floor coming in was sticky and the interior smelled of mildew walking in.

Appetizers are hit or miss, wasn’t served hot, and the steak my partner had was indistinct square. Some no name cut.

The staff never came back around and asked about drinks or tried to sell more. This has been my experience all three times we’ve been here.

With the Groupon, the prices become almost worthwhile. I would never ever consider paying full price for this food.

We just visited Tess again for our wedding anniversary, and it was absolutely wonderful as always. The ambiance and service was phenomenal and the food was delicious and cooked perfectly. Super friendly service and nice patio area.. four of us were looking forward to a ladies dinner out, and the wine was wonderful. However. 2 steaks were served well done, when ordered Medium Rare, and the Salmon came out Rare in the center when asked for Medium "chefs choice". While our server was fantastic and super apologetical, there was no visit by the manager, or anyone else to try and turn our experience around. Considering 75% of our meals were not enjoyed, we thought there would be some sort of "recourse". Nope. Nothing. No deduction in meal cost, offer for a glass of wine, dessert... etc. Not looking for a handout at all, but a "let's make this better" is the least a restaurant of this caliber should offer. Disappointed. Won't return.

Definitely A hidden spot on the east side. The cioppino was out of this world! Mussels were super fresh, sauces were absolutely delish. We also shared a well put together Mediterranean salad with a citrus vinaigrette. One of our favorite staple East side restaurants. The first moment you step in, you feel transported to Europe. Quaint/pic perfect in general, lovely patio with even some heated patio seating & fine art - all wrap the fabulous food into a unique dining experience. Hmmm, been going here for years now as one of our favorite places. The last few times quality seems to have taken a step or two done. Of course at first experience like this we tried again, a few times, because everybody is entitled to an off night. Unfortunately there seems to be a pattern not sure we'll be back. Filet ordered by husband definitely didn't look like a filet cut and it was hard to cut through even with steak knife; ordered medium rare, it should cut like butter. He also ordered double potatoes, didn't receive, but did get charged despite pointing out to waitress. The sides accompanying my duck tasted great but were cold. When reported to waitress she said they were supposed to be that way....ummmm, I don't think so... And finally the fatal service flaw, no water refills

We don't eat here often enough, but when we do, it's always a treat. It's clear that Tess, like all the restaurants in the City of Milwaukee, has done their best to sort through all the various and mixed COVID restrictions and mandates, leaning on their outdoor space and more or less clearing out the interior. The menu seems to be shrunk from what it once was, which I mean as a compliment because it's a recognition that with the shortage of labor and difficulty of finding steady sources of high-quality product, it's better to do fewer things that can then be executed well...

...which is exactly what we experienced on the night we were there. The food was terrific, as was the service. The wine list remains well thought out, with a number of bottles that are underpriced for the quality. If you haven't been here in a while, you'll do well to just relax, accept that it's different in some ways, but the same in all the most important ones.

I have rated Tess high in the past. But this has definitely changed. I had a horrible food experience the last time I was here. I tried to give them another chance because we all have off days. I ask if a specific chef was there to cook my food. They lied and said he was. Immediately, upon eating my food that was very over cooked, over seasoned and just over bad. I told the waitress directly that the chef definitely couldn't have made such bad food. I got validation from the chef himself that in fact he isn't cooking tonight even though he is in the kitchen. I brought this to the waitresses attention and she gave attitude and made excuses instead of trying to rectify or accommodating me. I will never return .

TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE!! There were numerous red stains on the glass when our Sprite came out. After we brought it to the attention of the waitress, she took the cup and returned it WITH THE SAME RED STAINS. She did not get a new cup nor bother to even clean the existing cup. Moments later, the same waitress tried to remove the glass of water from my grandfather’s mouth as he was drinking from it. Scaring him! Just avoid this place. Zero respect for the elderly.

Had to go there since my name is Tess. I went there on the weekend with my boyfriend and we both had a great experience. Our server (i feel like her name was sarah but at the same time im forgetful) was amazing, was always smiling, seemed she loved to be working there, and reacted great with our humor. We especially loved the mussels and with all the entrees we were definitely full and satisfied when we left. We got the Butterscotch Budino dessert togo and even eating it a day later of it sitting in my fridge it was one of the best desserts ive ever had and couldnt imagine how even better it wouldve tasted fresh to our table.

Maybe we were there on a bad night but my husband complained that his sauce was way too salty. I tasted it and it was. Our waitress just mumbled something about how that's how it is sometimes. The manager asked, when my dinner was gone and my husband's was cold and our card was out on our check, if there wasn't something they could have done. We replied that the waitress never offered that option. The manager grabbed our credit card, said she'd take it off our bill and left in a huff. Very unprofessional. We will not be back.

Quaint, personal, romantic. Three words to describe the dining experience at Tess. My date and I had the onion tart, which was decadent for all cheese lovers. Pretty rad! this refurbished bar is full of oddball art, closely packed - elegant linen covered tables (on the inside, too chilly for patio service so I can't speak on that) and a bizarre but charming music selection. The service was fantastic, sadly I do not remember our servers name but cheers to her, she was helpful with recommendations and knowledgeable about the menu, on top of being pleasant! The food was incredible, our server recommended latin styled dishes as the head chef hails from Mexico City, we stuck to this and we're not disappointed. It's not cheap, but the price of admission is well worth the quality experience you'll find in dinner at Tess. Until next time!

Just got curbside takeout for dinner. Highly recommend the Korean Fried Chicken - so good! Pick up was easy and felt very safe. Do yourself a favor and treat yourself while supporting a local business.

I had high expectations so maybe this isn't completely fair. My food was good but, it was not blowing me away for what I got. I feel I could have spent 5-7 dollars less (my meal was $26) and been much happier overall. I tried my girlfriend's special fish order and I was horrified as was she. She took a chance and did not come out ahead let's say. Dessert was ok but again seemed a bit inflated for what it ultimately was.

This has, and always will be one of my favorite Milwaukee restaurants. The service and food NEVER disappoint - this is about as well run of a food operation as you'll find in Milwaukee. Bring a Groupon if you can :)
