Stopped here back to back nights. The first night our bartender was amazing, very personable and friendly, delicious cocktails. The second night our server brought us drinks not how we ordered them, dropped off our food without saying a word, never checked back about taste or if we needed anything else, at all. We ended up getting our tab from a totally different server. Too bad the second visit really put a damper on our lovely experience.

My husband and I have been traveling from St. Louis to the Up. In the last 8 days we have everything from fast food to restaurants. Tonight we were completely blown away. The was absolutely incredible amazing I had the buffalo chicken mac and cheese my husband had Caesar salad Wisco Frisco burger it was cooked perfect. We were so full it was hard to stop. We have all been there, where the food is good you don’t want to stop but you stomach is like please no more. Delivery so to our room not the front desk. He was extremely nice well mannered and polite. People like him just don’t exist anymore. Trust me, I have 2 business of my own.They told us 45-1 hour for delivery but he was he way before that. Food was hot felt like it just came out of the kitchen. Prices oh my god, are normal prices. Most restaurants with food like this would charge so much more. (Not always the best way to make money) keep the price range and people will keep coming. I cannot say enough about this restaurant. All I can say is if your restaurant is doing well take some lessons from them. They got it going on!

The atmosphere is old fashioned laid back. The Nitro Luna Coffee Stout is smooth with an umami character. (A.k.a. I liked it a lot). The "Cook Out" Mac & cheese has bratwurst, sauerkraut, Ellsworth cheese and it YUMMY good (don't judge ... Eat it). Chicken wings are perfectly prepared with lots of sauce choices!

This is a really cool building, great atmosphere. Both with the decor and how the building is laid out. I was disappointed with the food. My fried fish was dark brown, over cooked. It was so crispy it was hard to eat. I'm not a fan of the pineapple coleslaw, the pineapple gives it a sour taste. The tarter sauce had no dill in it, as far as I could tell. It was all white and did not have much flavor. The portion of fish was smaller than I expected for $20. It was just one fillet. My service was slow.

This was a great way to end a day. We both enjoyed tasty and filling salads with a local beverage. Very good flavors. The service and atmosphere were very nice. A. very cool set up with The Alley, The Middle and Deep Water Grille all connected to satisfy differing menu selections and price points. Very unique and high quality. If you are in the Ashland area, this is a definite go to.

Popped in on the 4th of July 2025 and got seated promptly. Our server who's name is regrettable did not catch was absolutely perfect. She arrived at the right time every time. We sat on the 2nd story outdoor patio and it could not have been better. I cannot speak for all of the food but we shared a pretzel and beer cheese and it checked all of the boxes. Would definitely visit again!

I will start with the staff we’re friendly. When we got there we ordered our drinks and then were told it would be about 30 mins for our food as the kitchen was behind. We were understanding and that was fine. Our server didn’t check in and then when she did she forgot to return with drinks. Totally understand though as I think she was the only one serving. Our food took closer to an hour to actually get and didn’t all come out together (I always feel bad eating when my family doesn’t have theirs yet). The food was good, I would describe as priced higher than expected for the food options. It’s a cool place inside and the food tasted good. Overall it was an ok experience as we weren’t in a rush.

Very disappointed in the food and the service. We sat down, ordered drinks and food shortly after. The people next to us ordered around the same time, were served, ate their whole pizza, and had time to chat BEFORE our meal even came out of the kitchen. There were only a few other couples in the restaurant. We ordered two medium burgers, they came out dry and overcooked, the goober burger was missing the blackberry bacon jam and the curd burglar came out with a cold bun. The waitress was close by, but never offered refills on drinks, and only came to check on us after my husband set his meal to the side to be sent back.

We tried again (4/19)and the service was great! They were just getting busy and were short staffed, and we still had great service!

We entered the middle bar area for dinner on 4/10, sat down like we normally would, and just sat... for about 10 minutes while the bartender pretended to wash and dry glasses (we saw him pick up the same glass 3 times) would NOT make eye contact and just straight up ignored us. After the 10 minutes, I got up said "thanks for the service," and went and had Mexican (El Tarasco never disappoints and I always have great service). Do BETTER with the training of your bartenders. That was absolutely ridiculous.

We dined on Saturday, July 20th, 2024. We were told it would be a 20 minute wait to allow the kitchen to catch up on orders which we understood and appreciated. We were then sat and we ordered right away knowing that it could be a while (they weren't very busy; about half of the tables were empty). We (table of four) had our food less than 30 minutes but discovered very quickly that fries are not included with the burgers (our first sit down dining experience where they weren't included and it's not listed on the menu to forewarn diners). Our waitress (a tall girl who had one other table) rudely snapped at us that they are extra and then walked away before asking my husband if he wanted to order any nor did she refill our sodas. Thankfully another waitress saw our shocked faces and came over, asked us our concern, then took my husband's fries order and two minutes later served him some hot, fresh fries. After that no one asked if we wanted refills (couldn't get our waitresses attention who was standing and talking with her coworkers) nor anything else. My fish was dry (fries were good!), my son's poutine was greasy and salty, and we were left without soft drinks to complete our meals. We finally got our waitresses attention for the bill and waited another ten minutes after asking (again just standing and talking to her coworkers) got her to bring our bill. The menu should state that fries are extra and the wait staff should let patrons know when they order one that the price is the burger only but fries are just an additional $3 and are worth it (we enjoyed them). We were in the area hiking for the weekend but disappointed that our dinner experience started out positive and ended up negative. Grateful the second waitress saw our reaction and covered for our primary waitress who became extremely rude after delivering our plates.

The food was decent, little pricy for what it is. The atmosphere was awkward. You could hear a pin drop, music was so low you couldn’t really hear it. They had us packed in with two other high top tables on the balcony. Balcony only had 3 small tables. My spouse, myself, and two kids at a small pub table. The entire bottom of the restaurant was deserted when we got there so we could have been put at any other table. The waitress was very short/impatient, and tone was annoyed when taking our orders like she wanted to be anywhere but there. When we were leaving a large party showed up and it seemed like that was where they were focusing all their attention. Our food came out hot but it took 30 minutes and we just got sandwiches. Personally, would not go back.

We got seated and we're left there for 15 minutes before someone came to get a drink order. By this time we were ready to order as well. She came over took our whole order. 10 min later brought the drinks, 10 min after that got the food. No one checked on us to see how the food was or if we needed anything, no refills, no one came back to our table at all until we were done eating for 15 minutes to bring the check. Overall not a good experience. We dined in, and when we got there, we were the only two people besides one patron drinking at the bar. My husband got a burger and I got the Chicken Bacon ranch macaroni and cheese. The burger was burnt and was cold when he got it, and the waffle fries were cold as well. The macaroni noodles were overcooked by a lot, so much that they were almost mushy and the macaroni and cheese was so cold the cheese wasnt even melty anymore. Ended up spending $40 on food that was barely edible. A serious let down, and I do not recommend this place at all.

Sat at the bar this afternoon with my father to have lunch. We had to wait for the bartender Kelly to show up even though there were only two other patrons there, then she proceeded to give us the most unwelcoming greeting I’ve ever seen. She didn’t say hello, she didn’t say welcome, she basically forced us to instigate conversation to place an order. She made us feel like we were inconveniencing her being there. We asked for the specials she whipped out a notepad and read them so fast neither of us heard one thing other than cheese curds. Omg. I was astonished at the lack of customer service I had with my server, and before I continue. I have been in the customer service industry for awhile and i understand that everyone has their days.. however this server had a total of two tables and would slam the drinks on the table, even pushed my brothers chair, shrug as much as possible. And had a very demanding tone. I even replied with a please and thank you to everything and was met with an eye roll every time. I reluctantly gave her no tip however this was a situation where nobody in their right mind would tip. However my Mac and cheese certainly did not disappoint!

We waited at the bar for a table. The first table was given to someone else so we continued to wait at the bar. The bartender said to the manager that we were already waiting for a table as one cleared.Instead of seating us, she seated the group that literally just walked in the door long after we came in. Then the next group that came in after them. Are we supposed to sit at the bar all night when we clearly requested a table? I’m not knocking their food because it is one of the better places to eat at in Ashland. But considering we were already waiting for a table, we were really let down when this happened not once, but a couple of times. The bartender was helpful and took good care of us and at least tried to get us a table. I’m not in the habit of posting bad reviews. But this wasn’t right.

We came in for a late lunch to a busy bar area. Not a huge issue as we weren't in a rush. Food was great, service was good. But we did witness an unfortunate interaction between staff and management. One of the bartenders was noisily throwing bottles into a garbage can across the bar area. It was super disruptive. The second time it happened another server asked them to stop. White fish was not at all fishy tasting was lightly breaded and deep fried with a tasty cold slaw and a fresh sauce. Only thing would have like a few reg sized pieces of lime, I had a bunch of bar cut limes worked out though just messier. But for sure needed the lime, I would reorder. You got 3 for $14. A few years ago their rating would have been 4 to 5 stars. Not even close anymore.
A coworker and I ordered the Thai tuna salad from The Alley a few weeks ago. The tuna was cooked only half way. Literally half of the tuna steak was RAW in the center! I called to let them know and the male manager got snarky and told me that is how they serve it. 🤮
After telling them under cooked fish is not safe and it does not state anywhere that they serve it that way he finally agreed to replace it.
I told the GM about it and she sent my coworker a gift card but it was a horrible experience
After that experience I should have known better. Last weekend I ordered Lava cakes for myself and some coworkers. The fresh fruit was not fresh at all! It was fermented and smelled like vinegar. When I called to let them know they asked if I wanted more fruit. No. No, I do not. The fermented juices soaked into the cakes so the whole thing was gross. My coworkers and I are done ordering from The Alley and The Deep Water for a while.

We walked down to The Alley from our hotel on our stop in Ashland on a motorcycle trip. We sat at the bar for dinner and the bartenders were both FABULOUS. (Thank you again for the pronunciation lesson on Chequamegon!) We had the artichoke dip appetizer and it was DELICIOUS. And it included both naan bread and fresh veggies, which was really nice. The jalapeño popper mac and cheese and the whitefish sandwich were our entrees, and both were great. I highly recommend the grilled chicken sandwich and cream of chicken wild rice soup. It seemed like a busy night but we received our food quickly. Our waiter was busy yet very attentive and timely with ordering, checking in during our meal, and when it was time for the check.

Just starting off by saying this review is more on the waiter and the drink vs the restaurant and the food. We were at the restaurant on June 19th, 2021 around 7pm. Food we ordered, jalapeno cheese curds, chicken bacon ranch Mac and cheese, and whitefish BLT sandwich with bbq waffle fries. Cheese curds were good. They were frozen ones that were deep fried. Not handmade or anything, but decent. Ranch dipping sauce that menu said was included with them was good. Mac and cheese, hot and fresh and tasted good. BLT sandwich was good. A little dry, could use a little more sauce. Bbq Waffle fries were luke warm and nothing I could taste on them would make me say they were bbq flavor, but I ordered some of that ranch dip for them, so all was good. My wife ordered the regular old fashioned, when she asked what type of brandy was used, the waiter said. I don't know I only drink beer. Then he stood there, after a few seconds he stormed off and went to the bar to ask, and he yelled across the bar and yelled what type they use. I ordered the blackberry old fashioned. Drink menu showed they were supposed to have the luxardo Cherry's, the blackberry drink did, the regular had maraschino cherries. I also ordered the pecan old fashioned. It was the worst drink I ever tried. It tasted like cheap amaretto and a splash of sprite. Not even a garnish. Now comes the reason why I rated so low. Our server, Chris. From the moment we got seated, his tone and answers to any question was like he was bothering him. His answers were either I don't know, or a very short, rude answer. When he delivered our food, he pretty much threw it down on the table and ran away. He never came back to check on us. He didn't greet us, or provide his name. ( We only found out his name as we looked on the receipt) he didn't thank is or even say bye when we left. This all could be at least a little understandable and accepted if they were busy, but they were not. He hid most of the time in the corner under the stairs at the servers station, on his phone or talking and laughing with another server. When we brought up the very bad drink, his reply was "what do you want me to do" I told him I don't want it or anything else. He comes back a few minutes later with the bill and shows that he took it off, and he said he told the manager and his manager said that it was a disgusting drink and that no one ever likes it including the staff. If no one likes it, why do they keep it in the menu? Also when receiving our bill, I noticed they charged me for the ranch sauce that was supposed to be included with the cheese curds. His attitude and un-professional behavior, along with the lack of consistency and things not being what they advertise, makes me want to write this review. We will not be back to this restaurant or any others associated with it. I recommend to all stay away.

Overall very solid, especially the food. We had bacon cheeseburger and onion rings, both fantastic! Portion size more than enough! Couldn't even finish my burger it was so large. Environment was decent, kinda sports bar vibe. Our only complaint would be the service. Waitress was very nice but either overwhelmed, not very good at her job or both unfortunately. We waited for our drinks for at least 10/15 minutes and only seen her once after she brought food and that was to drop off check. Will probably return, just hope for better staff.

Without a doubt the best food both my boyfriend and I have ever had. We went on Valentine’s Day without a reservation, they were extremely busy but the hostess made us feel very welcomed and had us seated in no time.

The next day we placed a delivery order and the food was delivered within a half hour and was amazing as well. (They did forget to provide utensils but the quality of the food made up for this in full)

Very fresh ingredients with hardly any grease. I’ll be making the couple hour drive to eat here again!

Excellent food and huge portions! I got the whitefish sandwich which had a local butcher’s bacon and the breading has a nice kick. My boyfriend got the buffalo Mac and cheese which was also delicious. Sit at the South Shore Brewery bar and you can order off of either the Deep Water Grille or The Alley menu!

This place used to be good but it’s really changed. It’s sad. Everytime I give The Alley another chance I always get let down, hard. Ordered the salmon salad and it wasn’t even close to cooked. Straight raw. Cheese curds were so burnt there was barley any cheese left :( I’m always finding hair in my food, again today in my pulled pork sandwich. That’s not my color or length. Everything’s always really burnt or raw.

The Ally used to be a wonderful place to order delivery from both at home and at work. It has continuously gone down hill in the last few months. The first bad experience 2 of their $13 salads were ordered and they were both BROWN. Another time an order was replaced with something else completely different off their menu, another time was charged a lot extra for adding tomato and then they didn't give the tomato. Today is the 2nd time part of an order was completely forgotten. We called to have the forgotten order sent out and it has literally been 2:15 since original order time and 1:07 since the original order was delivered. Still have not seen the forgotten order. This is absolutely ridiculous and my business has been lost and I will stop sending customers there to eat also.
