My husband and I were visiting from Chicago for my birthday. My husband wanted my birthday dinner to be special.Dinner took almost an hour and was barely warm. A menu item I was looking forward to included potato pancakes. After fifteen minutes I was informed they did not have the potato pancakes.
An expensive restaurant not worth the money.

Server was nice. Waited over an hour for food that was warm at best. A group of women left after waiting two and a half hours without food. Another couple said their steak was cold.

Great little throwback restaurant in a landmark house. Wonderful service and good food. We even had some live music on a Saturday night!

Horrible! Waited an hour past our reservation for them to tell us they cannot see us, then told that we can wait and see if the food would come within an hour!!! Ruined an entire anniversary get away, as parents these nights are few and far between, highly disappointing and still charged for drinks that they said would be comped.

I really wanna give this place a five star but when they took our reservation, they asked my husband if this was for her birthday and he said yes, but unfortunately, when we got there, we got seated in a small area in a small room and a small table, the food was exceptional And our waitress was the five star. It could really use some low lighting and also some music.

Wow! What a cool place! Ashely was our server and she was amazing, food came out fast and was very good. Coming from Chicago, prices were very reasonable given the unique venue. Would recommend to anyone coming up or down!

Was there for Brunch on Sunday 09/21/2025. Cant tell you how disappointing it was. We had noon reservations ( we were guests of the booked reservation) The facility was awesome, as was the service. The Brunch buffet was less than expected. The "Salad, fruit, meat, cheese table was awful. The food was not temperature controlled, with exception of the shrimp was on ice and barely available. The fruit tray was empty and wasn't replenished the entire time of our visit. There was potato salad that was at not iced and at room temperature. Basically the selections were not only not temperature controlled but limited. The hot foods were not at temperature to avoid food borne illness not to mention not much available. To get the sausage gravy you were scraping the bottom to obtain and was cold, the provided biscuits were hard, the egg bake was limited and cold, the sausage and bacon were plentiful in availability but cold, the salmon was readily available but cold. We ordered Eggs benedict directly from the kitchen that was cold, and the egg was hard upon delivery. I hate writing a review like this, but the food experience was absolutely awful! Service experience was outstanding!!!! Food was awful! Our host that invited us for dining paid the bill so I did not know the cost of the visit. I'm certain the cost was in excess of the quality. I wish this location success, however it needs to provide quality food for brunch! Once again the service was excellent, but the food was awful.

We didn't stay but had dinner. The food was good but not stellar. Mainly the sides were just sorta "meh". We had the baked lemon pepper cod & the prime rib. The prime rib was a little more medium than medium rare (as we prefer) but was good. The cod was very good and the sauce made the dish. The wine list was nice with some really good wines at fairly (by restaurant standards) reasonable. Dessert was good but nothing to really "wow" us (cheesecake and flourless chocolate truffle).

We didn't stay here or eat here. We came for the garden tea. It was their first one, so they are still tweaking it. The music wasn't live and couldn't finish a song. I think they were having issues with it. Unfortunately their menu didn't offer vegetarian options or we would have ordered. I thoroughly enjoyed the tour of the house! It was very well done. The guide did an excellent job and knew his stuff. You can tell he researched it out carefully. I'd definitely try it again and do recommend it. Certainly would be a fun thing to do as a group. The bar was cash only. Inside the tables were set so elegant and beautiful. It definitely drew you in.

Check your bill. Server added 25% gratuity for table of 3 and acted like he didn't. Service was slow and non existent to the point of having to ask another employee to go find our server. I'm sure he adds a sneaky tip quite often hoping no one will notice.

Not a fan. The New York Strip had this sweet yellow stuff on it. Not a good combo. Very midnight dinner steak. The salmon was rubbery and the mussels were dry and fishy.

The bread and butter was good.

Heard this was THE place to have a nice steak dinner. Waited 45 min to be served a drink - nothing special, just beer and wine. Food came out and asparagus, fries and mussels were overcooked, prime rib was disgustingly undercooked. This place is overhyped and WAYYYYYY overpriced. Beautiful place and nice servers but the food was less than special and so insanely overpriced that we won’t return.

As someone intimately aware of how difficult it is to own and operate a restaurant, I am slow to come to any conclusions about aptitude or attitude of those in the food service industry; but there has to be some sort of standard when your average price for entrees is around $50.

Aside from waiting 30 minutes for poorly made drinks (we found an old fashioned had been made in part with sugar, the bottom of the glass was coated in it), the table we sat at was tucked so tightly into a corner that one of the placements needed to be rearranged to allow us all a place to sit. There was ample room to move the table to make space for the table in all directions.

The main issue was that my family and I also waited an hour and a half for our entrees to come out. The excuse that came out was that a large party had their order in first and that pushed our food back. The large party in question was about 6 people that grew to 10 about an hour into waiting, there were maybe 20 people in the restaurant total on a Friday night. There was no entree on that menu that should take more than 20 minutes to make.

When the manager came out to apologize for the weight she only offered to take the drinks off the tab. They were by far the least expensive part of the meal and we had each only had one. The lack of care or concern for the poor performance of the kitchen was evident in the way the manager kept saying that the large party held up our food. At the hour mark mentioned before, that same party hadn't received any food and hadn't grown to their full capacity. We know this because we sat right next to them for our meal.

As far as restaurants go I have very infrequently visited a space that seems to match a disdain for it's guests comfort with inexperienced and subpar standards of service. The most annoying part is that we liked it when we came in. It had charm, the server got into some good raport with us (bless her heart she did her best to keep us happy and was clearly overwhelmed), and we were together as a family for the first time in about six months. To have what should have been a fun occassion marred by an institution that does not seem to understand the scrutiny and care that goes into running a restaurant at that price point is a real shame. If youre going to charge people fine dining prices, you need to deliver at least an average family restaurant's service.

I hope this place isn't just running off of the good will of people who tolerate it for its gimmick.

We stayed at the Baker House hoping to celebrate our anniversary. The house must have been a hundred degrees so they brought a small dirty fan up into our room. The furniture is all old with springs popping through worn filthy cushions. We had stayed in the past and they had included breakfast and there was staff on site then. This time we were left completely alone in the house and when we called the number on the check in card for after hours it went straight to voicemail. Also apparently no more breakfast is included just a bowl of half rotten fruit sitting on the community table. The $48 brunch the next morning also offered moldy fruit. We sat on the front porch where the tables aren’t even dining tables but end tables so we smacked our knees against the legs and couldn’t even push in our chairs to eat properly. An older man who I believe was the owner was yelling and swearing at his employees at the front desk when we were in the bar area. I don’t think he knew we could hear but the entire experience was so disheartening , uncomfortable and just disgusting we will never ever go back. Such a shame such a beautiful house is being run into the ground by a man who obviously cares nothing for the quality of the food or maintaining the house or even having enough professionalism not to swear and scream at his employees in front of the guests. Zero stars. So disappointing. Worst anniversary ever thanks to the bad choice we made going there. We definitely won’t be back and I’ll be posting this review on every site possible to warn others not to let Baker House destroy anyone else’s special occasion.

Had dinner here with my wife. We each had the filet, and were celebrating an anniversary. The service was excellent, the ambience was great. The food, however, left something to be desired. The steaks were cooked as ordered, but really lacking in flavor. There was really no type of seasoning. For the amount of money spent, i would have expected better quality and flavor. They serve the steak with a side of steak sauce, and it was a nice addition to the steak, but I've not used any type of steak sauce in years. The side served with the steak was a simple order of French fries. Call them whatever you want, but I've had better fries at McDonald's. Overall, great atmosphere, but for the money I think you could find a better meal elsewhere.

Waited to get sat with reservation. Legitimately doesn't matter. What does matter is the overpriced entrees. They echo aspects of what a good meal might taste like. This would be unremarkable if it didn't cost 40 dollars an entree. That's the true horror. I have no issue spending money on a good meal, that's why I'm compelled to review. Simply spend less elsewhere for an equal or greater experience

My husband and I eloped and came here for our wedding dinner and it was a complete disaster. We waited a decent time just to get water and our drinks which the server brought out the wrong wine to my husband. Then we ordered dinner which took forever and my husbands salad that he ordered never came out. He then got the wrong meal, apparently he was given someone else’s meal, so they took back his meal and my steak. We now waited probably another 20-30 minutes for our food. My steak now comes back way undercooked when I asked for medium. They now have to take the steak back to cook it more which literally took 30 minutes when cooking a steak a little extra only takes a cpl minutes. We meanwhile see out server sitting at someone’s table talking away while my steaks getting overcooked. My husband had to give me some of his food as I hadn’t eaten all day and have health issues then go to the back to ask where my steak was as our server was not paying attention. I finally got my steak, which was definitely not worth $58. We received no apologies for all the mishaps and another couple sitting behind us who was celebrating their anniversary had the same crappy experience and told us how they felt really bad for us because it was our wedding night especially. I have written to the restaurant in multiple ways and asked for someone to call me and speak to me and not one person has reached out via email or phone call, I’ve never experienced such horrible customer service in my life and would not expect it to come from what’s supposed to be such a wonderful place in Lake Geneva. If you know what’s good for you, do not plan any big events at this restaurant and I wouldn’t even eat there on a regular night, the food wasn’t worth it and the service was awful- the way they treat their customers is disgusting! Whoever is running this place has 0 care for their customers!

I have nothing but good things to say about The Baker House! The staff and owner (Roland) was very accommodating to help make my time there special for my b day with family and friends. When we checked in the staff nice to give us an early check in and tour of the house. Tasty chocolate covered strawberries and champagne on ice was waiting for us. The decor and feel of the home was beautiful filled with that classic charm of the time period. All bathrooms have been updated with a gorgeous boutique feel.
They made sure my group of 10 had a separate dining room for us to all fit comfortably with a pianist playing in the background. We decided to have a roaring 20’s theme which was a lot
Of fun.
After dinner they opened up their speak easy for us since we had a decent size group even though it’s off season. This was one of the items that attracted us to this home as it fit our theme. The owner Rolland even joined us for a cocktail in the speakeasy and talk like old pals. Very personable person and friendly.
After the speak easy we had cigars and cocktails in the enclosed cabana with gas fireplace.
We have not being but great things to say about the whole experience and they went above and beyond to make my b day and experience memorable! We will definitely come back!
Keep up the great work as I wish all business owners and staff treat guest as you all have!
Will try to post a few pics of our experience.

I ate at the steakhouse. This is my review of my dining experience.

Waited over an hour for our food. We didn’t order appetizers so this is the main meal we were waiting on.
Food was some of the worst prepared I’ve had in a long time at a place that’s supposed to be a high end steak house.
8oz filet was overcooked, over seasoned and dry. The bordelaise sauce was way too salty and definitely tasted like it came out of a jar. Crab Oscar add on was sketchy and the sauce was cooled and congealed. The “pomme frites” were nothing more than grocery store frozen fries.
My girlfriend’s add-on was pan-seared scallops. They came out as breaded scallops. She is Gluten intolerant and this was made abundantly clear to our server. She apologized and had the chef re-fire
the scallops sans breading.
Btw who breads scallops?!
They came out with a strange mixture of garlic, balsamic glaze and dill.
The garlic was overpowering and tasted raw. The scallops were small and shriveled.

The wait time made all of this worse.
Cannot believe how much time and money I wasted here. Never will I return.

The service was great and the house tour was very good, but for afternoon tea it is a bit ridiculous to charge $45 per person for the tea if people are going to leave hungry. If they don't increase the food size, they should move tea back from 1 pm to around 3 so that people know they should eat lunch beforehand. Otherwise with the timing, it just doesn't make any sense to eat right before having more food, but to leave hungry otherwise.

We are seasoned travelers and have vacationed at luxury accommodations around the world. Our 2-nite stay at the Baker House fell far short of the expectations we had based on their website.
We were there in February and froze at night from the cold air coming from the vent into our room. When we complained the next morning, the owner brought us a space heater. However, that did nothing to stop the cold draft coming in through the vent.
In addition to the cold, we were kept awake by the bright light steaming in through our window from the hotel next door. The owner said we could move to a different room, but we looked and realized another room wouldn't be any better.
Smaller details disappointed us, too. No box of tissues, or soap at the sink, in the bathroom... a stained and torn shower curtain... the list goes on.
If you're going to splurge on accommodations, look elsewhere. We wouldn't stay at Baker House if the rooms were half the price.

Do not attend the High Tea if you can help it. Disappointing from the start. No cream or sugar at the table. No tablecloth. Management forgot one in our party has a nut allergy, even though I had called days prior. The server stated our tray had been given to another table. Sloppy and uninspired event. I will not return.
Go to The Schuster Mansion in Milwaukee for an impressive,
elegant High Tea. Sugar and cream served in vintage china. Chic linen, and a most informative hostess who gives a talk about the origin of High Tea. The house is stately and grand. It is worth the trip.

We loved our stay at the baker house and would recommend 10/10 everyone stay there. The rooms were incredibly well kept and the home itself had such beautiful decor and upkeep it truly felt as though you took a step back in time. The breakfast there was incredible as well. Best croissants I think I have ever had. The view from the upstairs lounge was so beautiful over looking the lake. The owner was the sweetest gentleman and made us feel very at home in the space. He gave us a great tour at the beginning of our stay explaining details and some history of the home and the stay. The bartender Kevin was fantastic and has so many wonderful stories, also an excellent piano player that we got the privilege of seeing perform. We also met the chef of Baker House as well, master at his craft. All in all I would say the Baker House was one of the best places I have ever stayed and I am very much looking forward to a return stay!

Overall, its a bit overpriced for the quality of food and lackluster service…

Before I begin my critique of high tea at the Baker House let me state that my comments are not directed in any way to the hard working waitstaff. Rather, I'm directing my comments to the owners/management of the Baker House. My daughters and granddaughters reserved a table for high tea on 12/21. Once seated, we waited and waited for someone to take our tea choice. We ordered our tea and because we had an 8 year old with us, we asked for warm milk. We were told that the Baker House had no milk (really?). We then asked for light drinks before tea but were told that the wait would be a while since, I guess, there was no bartender. We were also told there were no child friendly sandwiches, i.e. pb&j finger sandwiches. The waitstaff was completely overwhelmed and doing double duty as hostesses and waiters. After an hour with only water to sip on and absolutely no food in sight, we finally got up and left. Believe me I'm abbreviating our experience here. I have had tea all over the country and have never had an unpleasant experience such as we experienced at the Baker House. One of our party owns a house in Williams Bay, and is always happy to support local businesses. This certainly will not extend to the Baker House. As we left, our poor waitress apologized and asked if we would like to talk to her manager. I said I would. Waited another 10 minutes in the lobby, but no manager! Decided this establishment did not deserve a minute more of our time. I guess if I'm forced to give a star rating, I can say that the water was wet.

When we were given the tea, the waitress tells us “idk which tea pot has which tea, sorry.” She then disappeared and was no where to be found. We were stuck there waiting to pay so we can leave and I had to finally go find her. It’s $100 for 2 people plus tip. I would not recommend. It’s not worth it. My friend and I went there for afternoon tea. I saw a few other customers, but it certainly wasn’t packed. It took our server 20 minutes to come to our table to ask what we wanted. At that point, she realized no one had given us the menu. She then gave us the menu, took our order and left. It took another 20 minutes to get two pots of tea and a 3-tier tray of pastries and snacks. The tea was barely tea—weak and flavorless. The food was an assortment of store-bought cookies and pastries. It also included toasts topped with egg salad and tuna salad that they must have picked up from the Piggly Wiggly deli when they were buying the cookies. For that we paid $100+ tip. I can’t speak for their dinners, but I certainly recommend that you avoid their afternoon tea.

This is one of the historic places right on the Lake Geneva. Has beautiful views on the lake and great culture within the facility. It’s a hotel and a restaurant combination. We went to the restaurant and it was great.

They offered to fix menu that includes appetisers, main course and a dessert.

I really liked the shrimp and brie appetiser, and the giant cheese curds!

The steak was pretty tender and juicy. The sauce was fantastic. The dessert was delicious.

I would definitely try it again in the future.

Terrible customer service. I had heard this from others, but I was skeptical. It was even worse than I expected. I won't even comment on the food because food quality means nothing if the front of house staff are so lacking in service skills. There are so many higher-quality choices in town.

I took my daughter for the high tea and the tour. The lunch was great. However, I do believe that for the price, they could have had more sandwiches/savory dishes. The portions were very small... more like one bites except for the desserts. It was delicious but not enough. The tour was very interesting. Service was good. Overall, it was a good experience, but not exceptional. I believe if they want people to come back, they should make the high tea time more of a discovery: bringing a few things out at a time and maybe explaining what's on the plate. I guess for the price I just expected more.

We went here for high tea, which includes tea service and a tour of the mansion. It was interesting to learn about the history of the house during the tour and the guide did a great job, even managing a pretty large group. I was mostly disappointed with the food/service accompanying the tea. When I told the server that I was gluten-free, he brought out stale gluten-free bread clearly straight out of the freezer cut into squares with some tomato on it and a sort of "uncrustable." Once another member of my party realized that this was what they were serving me, they asked if there was anything else and the server said that he would check. He came back with warm (gluten-free) cookies and chocolate cake, which were really good. My side eye is why didn't he do this in the first place? For the steep price, service could have definitely been better. The tea was great!

Had Easter brunch here through a referral from a friend. Unfortunately, it was very disappointing and would not be recommended. Took at least 15 min to get our waters and mimosas. When serving ourselves, there was barely any food. They really struggled to keep up with the food. The staff seemed very frazzled. Looks like they overextended themselves. Finally got warm food, the scrambled eggs were horrible, the waffles seemed okay but they ran out of syrup. Also, no butter or condiments around. When you asked for anything it took forever to receive, then your food was cold. Than they ran out of plates, people just standing around. Would not return.

I recently dined at The Baker House and unfortunately had a terrible experience. The food was extremely salty to the point of inedible. The meals were not delivered as described on the menu and the service was poor. The positive of the evening were the wine and beverages. While the steaks were so salty they were hard to eat - they were cooked perfectly to temp. The quirky environment had a lot of potential but it was shame the holiday decorations were just laying in the corner.

Sadly the worst meal at a restaurant I have ever had. The ambiance is cute and our party of 6 was hopeful for at least decent or mediocre food, but it was barely edible. Every single dish was so drastically over salted and the ceasar salad has almost no dressing and no flavor. I'm someone who generally is ok with the saltier side but it was far too salty even for my taste. The menu lists that the filet mignon comes with a " seasonal vegetable puree" turns out this means about a tablespoon of a "smear" on the plate, more for "plating purposes" the staff informed us when we asked about our missing side. The only remotely enjoyable part of the meal was the bread and butter. For the prices they are charging this was absolutely disappointing and truly a waste of money.

We have dined at The Baker House a few times over the past few years and have always found the food and service to be very good. With our daughter’s engagement announcement in early July of this year, she was hoping for a Fall 2023 wedding in Lake Geneva. We enjoyed brunch on a Sunday afternoon there, and we became intrigued at the prospect of having the wedding and reception at this lovely 1885 mansion.

From the time you walk into the main entrance, you realize that you have stepped back into a time of historic and elegant Lake Geneva grandeur. At first, we had to envision how the many rooms and garden could work for a wedding venue for about 80 people. Michael, the Executive Chef and Event Planner, helped us design how the space could best be used. We felt confident it could work well for us. The garden is an added plus which overlooks Geneva Lake, making it an incredible setting.

Our planning began with Michael outlining dinner/bar menu options. He listened carefully to our daughter and future son-in-law’s wishes and helped to create a plan for everything to flow including a ceremony, cocktail hour, seated dinner, and dancing. Together, we devised music options for the ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner, and dancing that included a guitarist/vocalist, a live pianist, and a DJ. The night of the event, Michael’s expertise in event planning, along with the efforts of his helpful staff, quickly transformed two of the dining rooms after dinner into a fun and electric dance venue.

Michael assured us that the event would be heavily staffed, and he did not disappoint with an abundance of friendly and helpful bartenders, servers, and event managers. They all went out of their way to make the evening flow seamlessly and all seemed to enjoy creating such a special evening.

Many of our guests commented that the dinner was “the best wedding food they had ever tasted!” Michael prepared an Autumn Apple Salad, Chef Carved Black Angus Top Sirloin, Grilled Peruvian Chicken, and Garlic Red-Skinned Mashed Potatoes. Yum!

All in all, the elegance of this historic Lake Geneva mansion cannot be overstated. Whether you wish to enjoy brunch, a celebratory dinner, or are planning an elaborate event, such as a wedding, The Baker House would be a memorable and fabulous choice.

Went for their tea service and tour. It was terrible. To start, we sat down, the cups were dirty and the water glasses were filled with melted ice water like they’d been sitting a while. One glass was 1/4 full. The server took a long time to arrive and didn’t seem to notice how long we’d been waiting, a theme of the service provided.

The tea was poorly made. It was not allowed to steep long enough and was watery and bland. They had removed the tea itself so we couldn’t even control the strength (we got two varieties which is the limit for the table regardless of the amount of people and both were bad).

The sandwiches were haphazardly made and stale. The chicken salad was chewy and the herb garnish attempt made no sense at all. The sandwiches had almost no filling either.

The dessert items were poorly made and very unappetizing. There were also loose raw cranberries thrown on the stand, maybe as decoration? It was unclear.

The tea service did not take into account how many people were actually sitting at the table and the quantities were all over the place.

Tour was fun although the decor is kind of all over the place and not seemingly thought through.

Location is very nice.

Reviewing the restaurant, not the hotel. Atmosphere is really cool. The entire first floor was a handful of dining rooms of various shapes, sizes, and late 19th century - early 20th century "frontier opulence" decor. Plenty of period hats for the ladies to borrow if desired. Old fashioneds were good with real cherries, not the neon red stuff. We ordered the short ribs, recommended by our server, and the shrimp carbonara. While both were very good, neither dish had any vegetables or brightness to it, and there was no possibility to order any veg on the side. So if you don't like veggies, you can add a star to my review. We split a piece of flourless chocolate cake, which was excellent and decadent. It didn't have veggies either, but didn't need them.

Dinner So So. I stayed up the street but had dinner at Baker House. Unfortunately, I was left very disappointed in the entire food experience. The main courses were average, and the appetizers were straight from a vendor order. Nothing seemed fresh, and in general, they did not seem to be trying very hard. Service was excellent (Stephen). Cannot tell you the degree of regret that this was my experience as I expected much more. There are other and better choices..use them as the Baker House is hoping to draft off their location to put some lipstick on their mediocre restaurant.

Unfortunately, we won’t be coming back. The last couple times we have gone it’s either poor service or poor food.

We used to love the Baker house and take our family members when they would visit us in LG. I called on Wednesday to make a reservation for the Friday Fish Fry for 12 people. I get there with my party and they have no records of the reservation. Apparently the restaurant is closed on Wednesday and they use an answering service in California. Our reservation didn’t make it onto the books. They did accommodate us. Very slowly. We were seated at 7:45 and didn’t get done with dinner until 10:00 the service was so slow. The food was good though and the owner was kind and did try to rectify the miscommunication. At best I say stop in for a drink but be prepared to wait an hour even for that.

I had made reservations for a Birthday on Sunday 6/25 and we were looking forward to the Sunday Brunch Menu, which I have had before and the food was delicious and it was listed on the Website. However, this was THE worst visit EVER! We were not even offered the Brunch Menu and all that was offered was a Buffet, which was equivalent to a poor continental breakfast at a 2 Star Hotel. The Eggs weren't eggs and obviously Egg Beaters, there was oatmeal that looked nasty with no bowls even, the tortellini pasta looked leftover from who knows when. The sausages were brown and serve, there was some gray sausage gravy with some hard stale biscuits, and bagels without any cream cheese. No beverages other than coffee were available either. For the price of $48??? Not to mention a Childs plate was $35. This was absolutely outrageous and was not worth $10. In addition, there was no acknowledgment to having a Birthday guest in our party. You just lost 8 customer's and 5 of them had never been there before. You need to rethink that whole buffet thing because I'm sure others were not impressed at all.

Went for dinner, so looking forward to coming back after 15yrs. Unfortunately, we were SO disappointed. When first sat the table was about the size of an end table, wasn't balanced and squeezed in on a corner half in a room half in a hall. We asked to move and went out to the sunroof. Great! Nope, the table was over a vent blowing so hard my hair was flying. OK, so we put a menu over the vent. Better. The server was great, accommodating and quick to please. The menu was a let down, 2 fried fish and chip choices, another fish dish, a burger and a skirt steak. No prime rib, no chicken but for the salad. Other guests were loud (no one wants to hear you need to "pee" ladies 🫤), drunk and obnoxious, not to the fault of the restaurant but killed the experience. We won't be back, nor will we encourage others to visit a once beautiful restaurant that's gone downhill. Sad.

I scheduled a Mother's Day brunch here, online, three weeks' in advance. Only one time slot was left: 2:30pm. I booked it, received a confirmation email, and another email the day prior, to confirm again that we would be there. When we arrived, we were informed that the "buffet was out of food." The online scheduling program had apparently overbooked diners, so that there was no food left, so we left. I never received contact from anyone there: no apologies, nothing. The online scheduling program later warned me that I didn't check in for brunch, so I had to write an explanation as to why that was--that was apparently forwarded to the business owners. Still, nothing. I was here for a Christmas holiday brunch and it was fine, but I definitely won't be returning. I mean, they have my email address, right? I would at least expect some kind of explanation and/or apology from any kind of professional business owner.
I did not stay in the hotel and wouldn't plan on it at this point.

Review is for the restaurant & staff. We went during restaurant week. The host gave us a heads up that the kitchen was running behind so we grabbed a drink in the bar while he got our table ready. The bar was beautiful and the drinks were delicious.

Dinner did take a while but they were short staffed like so many places are right now. Having been in the service industry I get it and have more compassion and understanding than the large group, maybe 7 people, seated next to us. That table complained their whole meal and wound up getting their whole bar tab comped. In fact that entitled, whiny table was the worst part of the night. We were glad when they finally left.

The house & bar atmosphere was incredible and the staff was wonderful. Highlight of our meal was the muscles and the poached pear. Highly recommend checking out Baker House! Hopefully you get nicer table neighbors than we did.

DO NOT BOOK YOUR EVENT HERE. I had the exact same situation as Elizabeth H. who reviewed a week ago. I had a set date and reservation for my bridal shower however last minute they attempted to charge over 1,000 for tea and mini desserts for 25 people and told me I only had an hour and a half even though I was quoted $600 previously and was not provided with an end time my shower needed to wrap up by. I had to scramble and find a new place to have my shower. Baker House refused to accommodate and adjust to the previous agreement. In addition, Baker House‘s quality has significantly decreased over the past few years. I would not recommend going here. It is way over priced.

DO NOT BOOK YOUR EVENT HERE. I am beyond disgusted with how they conduct business. I was in communication with the event planner for over a month. We spoke through over 20 emails, and multiple phone calls as well. She discussed with me different plans and options for my party. Well last week I contacted her to put down a deposit. I never heard back after over a week, so I then got in touch with another girl who works there. She informed me that everything I was told by the EVENT PLANNER was wrong and impossible. The food would be impossible, using the garden wouldn’t work, everything we had discussed was apparently now impossible! This even Included the event rental fee. She told me it would be an extra 1,500 dollars to rent the space than what I was originally told. How does the event planner not even know what the correct rental fee is?? These people are a scam. I spent over 300 dollars on decorations and I am now out the money. Instead of owning up to their mistakes and honoring what was promised to me for over a month, they told me there was nothing they could do. I have been trying to speak to the owner and have heard nothing.

I am so beyond frustrated. Do not spend a dollar here. And especially do not plan an important/special event with them.

On top of all of this, my future in laws went here during winter fest and said the place was a disaster. Understaffed, dirty and unorganized. They said the gazebos were filled with trash and it took 30 minutes to get a drink.

When bill came it was $42+tax and gratuity and when imquired i was told it "just changed". I checked theit website again and no price chance reflected. Feels like a total bait and switch, not what i would.expect from a serious establishment. We have been coming to The Baker House for years. Last visited in 2021 and service was fine food was great. We were just in lake Geneva this weekend for our wedding anniversary. I made a reservation a week prior for Friday night. They called us on Friday in the afternoon to cancel the reservation! I was shocked. They said they were closing early today. Bizarre and very unprofessional canceling the day of. They offered us a reservation for Saturday and a free dessert we accepted. We arrived at 7:10 for our 7:15 reservation and we're told they were running 30-40 minutes behind. Not pleased but we got a drink and sat outside. Where many other people were also waiting to be sat. Another group also had a 7 pm reservation and they were never sat and left. We stayed and waited for 50 minutes and left. Also there was only 6 entrees on their menu which used to have many dishes. They're obviously understaffed and I assume poor management too. Really sad to see this restaurant go so downhill. It was always a favorite of ours. If you are so understaffed do not continue making way too many reservations you know you cannot accommodate.

We had a reservation for 7:30pm. We got seated at 8:10pm and ordered our food by 8:30. By 10:30 the food still had not come. Guests all throughout the night were complaining about the time of service but we tried to stick it out as we were here for a birthday. Our server was very sweet but the owner seemed unapologetic and didn’t do nearly enough to help the situation given the circumstances. We ended up walking out at 10:30 without ever having more than appetizers and on the way out our food still was not ready. We left to other guests recounting similar situations. People were there at 10:30 that had 6pm reservations. Management here is POOR. The appetizers we did eat were good and the ambiance was nice but don’t go unless you have a full day to spare.

My husband and I had an elopement wedding ceremony at the Baker House last week and we could not have asked for a more perfect experience! The Operations Manager Courtney went above and beyond to make sure our day was everything we wanted and more. Absolutely beautiful establishment and 5 star service!

Stayed here 2 nights in July as a couple. Had eaten here before but had never stayed before then. It is a truly wonderful place to stay and I highly recommend it. Some details...||--Each room has its own character - nothing cookie cutter about them. We stayed in the Bordeaux. The decor is opulent but also eccentric, and you can keep finding new little things of interest every moment you are in it.|--Bed was comfortable|--Bathroom is a little smallish but wonderfully decorated and everything worked fine|--Common areas are just as interesting as the rooms, decorated in lots of period things. There is a nice little sitting area reserved only for room guests (there are only a few rooms in the place), with views of the lake.|--There is a restaurant and bar on the premises that are quite good too, but see those reviews separately for more detail.|--The building is old, so things are creeky and not everything is perfectly fitted anymore and the floors and doors creak and groan. Just be aware of that.|--It is also a pretty expensive place - another thing to know going in. But it is expensive for good reasons.|--Customer service was good, though they (like seemingly every other business) were clearly short-staffed so there were sometimes some waits to find someone.||If you want simple and inexpensive, this is not the place. But if you want a unique, stand-out experience and are willing to shell out for it, then this is THE place to stay in Lake Geneva or anywhere in the vicinity, hands-down.
