Super friendly restaurant with great food! Our server Mario C. from Romania was FABULOUS! I had chicken enchiladas 😋 with rice and beans, phenomenal. My husband had ground beef tacos, again phenomenal! Hubby had spotted cow on tap and I had a apple cider float, very yummy. We loved it sooo much going back again tonight to try something else.

Excellent service and food was great! We’ve really missed JJ’s and now are so pleased that Cleat’s will become one of our new favorites! The blue cheese nachos and fish tacos were top notch!

Spicy skinny margarita is the best I've had!! Food was amazing (Cheese curds, Juicy Lucy burger, chicken burrito) and service was friendly and fast. Loved the restaurant decor too. We will definitely return!

Great little pub/restaurant just north of downtown Sister Bay. Nice views out over the water, good drinks and a unique menu. The blue nachos are really good! Fish and chips are really good too!

The food was fine but they charged extra for ranch or mayo on a chicken sandwich, I guess I was supposed to eat it dry???

On one hand, it was similar to the JJs days. (Went to JJs for more than 20 years, fwiw.) JJs had a lot of character and busy decor, and it seemed like a place well-worn and much-loved. The food was pretty good - a step or maybe two above tavern food, and a reasonable facsimile of Mexican food. I thought I might get a similar experience at The Cleat, but no. It's not at all like that. The Cleat feels new and hip - certainly very lively. The food was pretty bad, though - much worse than a tavern. If you want the apex of regret and disappointment, try the "fish & chips"! You'll get a set of deep fried haddock fish sticks and some limp fries. The tartar sauce was the best part of the plate. I can't speak to the rest of the menu, but fish & chips is a test of basic kitchen skills (can you select and cut portions of fish?, can you make a beer batter?, can you fry battered fish?, can you tell when food ought not be served to a customer?) and The Cleat flunks the test hard. My margarita was good, the New Glarus beer was fresh, so maybe it's just a better bar than anything else it's trying to be. I dunno. I DO know that I'd rather head to the AC Tap if given a choice between the two, because the AC Tap isn't trying to be something that it isn't. I won't be back to The Cleat, and I don't recommend it to anyone, sadly.

The Cleat in Sister Bay is fantastic! The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the nautical-themed décor is so fun. Service was excellent from start to finish, and the food was absolutely delicious. The chips and salsa were incredible, and the Blue Bay Nachos were a standout. We can’t wait to go back!

Wish I could do more like 4.5 stars... I really loved the drinks, the ambience, and the staff my group encountered was friendly and personable. The food was well-portioned in my opinion, and yummy for the most part - I liked the food, and maybe its what I ordered, but I just wish there was something more standout/unique about it. I'll plan to come again on the family trip next year, try something different, and see how that goes! I would definitely have a margarita here every night of vacation if I could!

As JJs lovers, I will say we were disappointed. Staff was great and atmosphere was fitting for Door County but the food and experience did not resemble JJs. Portion sizes were not great for the appetizer and dishes did not come with any sort of side for the price. Burger was just a burger and did not include any chips or fries and the deluxe quesadilla had 2 small pieces of pepper and like 5 dices of onion… no side for that either.
Flavor was okay, nothing special nothing bad.
We had an order of cheese curds and compared to other local restaurants the portions were so small we hardly got 2 pieces of curds each for 4 of us…
I also got a peach margarita. Flavor was great but as someone who never drinks I never felt a buzz from it. Flavor was great though.
All and all it was okay but having the mindset of a former JJs employee owning it… I think we expected just a little more out of the place to really bring back that JJs vibe with flavor, good portions and perch dinners.

Server did not provide water, or offer iced tea refill. Iced tea contained very little ice. Had to ask for more at the bar. Food was ok, just average, considering the price.

Food was great. Service was lacking. We waited about 15 mins before any staff came to our table. Lots of staff walking around doing loops but no one said your server will be with you soon or even acknowledge we were sitting there. Had to finally flag down a waitress and ask if we had a server. When our server finally came to our table she apologized and said she was taking an online order. Okay but staff would have better communication to at least acknowledge a full table of people just sitting there for 15 to 20 mins instead of just walking right by us continually. Train your staff better.

Thanks for bringing JJs back. Nice decor. Loud when full but glad to see it popular. Good eats, quick service. Friendly folks. Gorgeous view on half of restaurant. Free and plentiful parking. Yum yum food. Already been 3-4x this season.

as someone who grew up with the original jj’s I was really hoping this would be better, since I found out the new owner was one of their old bar tenders! right when I walked in it was definitely different - it’s nice and lively, but the hostess seemed annoyed, they don’t have a system to see if tables are full or not - which doesn’t help at all. Once we were seated our waiter was new, which was not a problem, she just wasn’t sure of some items on the menu. our food took about 30-45 minutes for 5 items. we ended up getting free refills, and another side of chips and salsa. once we all got our food ( most of us ) they ended up forgetting to make one of our items.. in the end, the food isn’t anything special, not terrible though. Not to forget The casino machines in the back kinda ruined the ambiance. the walls are red, which for decoration is fine, and additional decorations are cute. in all, it’s a fine place.. just not the best place to try.

Great new restaurant in Sister Bay! We sat at the bar and Matthew took such good care of us. He answered our questions, gave recommendations, and we even shared a few laughs. Can't wait to visit again!

What a place. The decor is awesome and the wait staff were also good. My biggest issue was with the quality of the food. What a disappointment. The buoy bowl salad was a mixture of cold and hot food items thrown together on a bowl. I got the smallest amount of lettuce and it had absolutely no seasoning. The taste of the unsweetened tea was watered down and old. Highly recommend skipping this spot.

Food was just okay, more like tacos, etc. you would make at home and they were quite pricey. I was really hoping for more from this restaurant. Seems like they have tried to eliminate the noise issue that Solago had, but it is still pretty noisy.

The Cleat is a fantastic spot, whether you’re catching up with friends, family, or just looking for a tasty mid-afternoon snack. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with friendly staff. And let’s not forget the drinks - they’re always on point, with a wide variety of beers to choose from. The salsa is a must-try - it’s fresh and has tons of flavor. And for dessert, you can’t go wrong with the incredible treats they offer. Overall, The Cleat is a truly wonderful place to enjoy a delicious meal and create lasting memories. Highly recommended!

Great margaritas! Food was good but underwhelming. We had fish tacos and ground beef tacos. The latter tasted like what we make at home, so it would probably be perfect for kids. We hoped for a bit more pizzaz. We will be back to try other things because we love the spot and really hope the owners & restaurant succeeds! It is loud and energetic during peak time. The decorations are great!
